Ninja Flip Toaster Oven & Air Fryer

We had another air fryer that was ugly & bulky and took too much volume of space. Also it had plastic on the exterior and the smell did not seem safe. Also the settings and options were complicated & frustrating.

This one is obviously compact but the inside use of space inside is very efficient. It hold more than you think it could . It’s all stainless steel and seems to be good quality. Also, it’s very easy to use. The settings are intuitively quick to understand. You don’t really even need the directions. Other than the recommendation on what type of oil to use which is important for no smoke.
So far we have liked it so much that we purchase another one for our cabin.

Starting with the packaging, the 8 in one flip impresses. The fit and finishes are flawless. Little touches like double rolled edges on the cleanout tray so there are no sharp edges indicate how much thought went into the design. We have not tried the entire range of foods, but everything so far has turned out great. The preheat is less than a minute and the countdown timer triggers an oven light 30 seconds before it turns off. It is easy to add time if needed. The temperature is precise so it is easy to duplicate results. It is perfect for a 12 inch pizza, wings, baked avocado eggs, crispy Brussel sprouts, toasted melts, etc. Everything comes out crispy and delicious. The flip up feature is handy for counter space, and the designers added a safety feature so it cannot be turned on accidentally when standing up. The heating elements are long lasting quartz. Cleaning has been simple with the addition of a silicone mat to catch drips. We are so impressed that we ordered a second one for our vacation home.

I am absolutely in love with my Ninja Flip Air Fryer! This air fryer has completely transformed the way I cook, and I can’t imagine going back to my old methods. Do not use any oil in this thing. The instructions say vegetable oil or avocado oil should be all right but just do yourself a favor and keep oil out of it for ease of maintenance. I struggle to keep the mesh tray clean and all I really prepare in it is breaded chicken and fish, really. So chicken strips and fish sticks, seasoned and breaded fish fillets and I’ve had occasion to try personal pizza. (That was a bad two weeks – don’t judge me.) The personal pizza fared the best – nothing, not even crumbs, came off of it.

Observation: This is a bit of a counter hog if you’re living in a condo or an apartment.

Oh, also there was something sticky on the secondary black tray. I neglected to follow ONE instruction in the manual: Run the unit at (I think) max temp for 20 min or so before ever cooking in this. That might have cooked it off. Do that and then pay attention to the surface of the black tray.

Perfect oven, like how it flips and frees up counter space and looks great. Cooks well too

I got this to replace both my air fryer and my toaster to open up the already limited counter space I have. The concept of this looks good. It’s an air fryer, but can also double as an oven, toaster, dehydrater, etc. The profile of this is pretty nice. It’s about 6-8 inches high and about 15 inches wide and deep. Even in it’s operating position it takes up less overall counter space than my two appliances. You can easily flip it upright for storage and open up a bit more useable counter space.

As with most Ninja products this comes packaged well and with good instructions on how to use the various modes. The modes are easy to use and the buttons on the outside are clear and easy to click.
I have so far use the air fryer and toasting functions. The air fryer works simliar to most air fryers out there. I do like that I have a wider area to spread out whatever I’m cooking. However, it’s not super deep like a standard air fryer so if you tend to put really large (taller) items, this might cause some issues. I usually don’t have anything like that so it’s not an issue for me. In the pics you’ll see I tried some fries and they came out like any other air fryer fries I’ve had before.

Operating it is easy. Select the function you want. Select the temperature (or if toasting then the shade). Select the length of time (or number of slices for toast), and just hit start. The display is clear and shows the time left. Once it’s done it will tell you if it’s hot so you know and then will show “Flip” when it’s ready to be flipped up.

I also did some toast, and it did toast it well (similar to when I’ve used other standard toasters). I had to adjust the shade, as I had to figure out the exact settings that will get me the right level of toasting. No issues with this.

There are three different trays that come with this. A standard grate you can put pizza, toast, etc. The air frying/mesh style tray, and a solid cooking one. They are all very easy to clean with a sponge and dish soap (I only hand washed it).

The primary reason for the 3 stars is that this unit becomes VERY hot on the outside. Although there are stamped signs on the metal that say hot surface, it gets very hot. Even though the display shows “Hot” in there, someone could easily touch the top (or sides) of this and burn their hands. They could have either used a material that would not get as hot, or maybe added some level of heat dissapating material. This also means that you can’t flip it upright until it’s cooled. The oven does say “Flip” when it’s ready, but it takes a long time for it to cool down. The door of this also gets quite hot. There’s a plastic handle to pull the door open, but this should also be another area that should stay relatively cool.
One other item that this item needs to change is how it operates when you open the door. In most air fryers/ovens that I’ve used, when you open the door, the unit stops. But this one keeps going (including the timer). You can hit the stop button to pause it but it should just happen as soon as you open the door. Furthermore, when you’re done using it, you have to hit the power button to basically reset the timer. You can’t just hit the stop button multiple times to reset it, if you want to air fry something else. You have to power it off and on.

I really wanted to like this more, but the flaws on this make it something I may not want to consider using going forward. If they can resolve the heat issue, that alone would make this a much better product.

I was hesitant in purchasing an air fryer in the beginning because I didn’t like the round design and thought I was limited in cooking options with that model.
This model is like an oven but does much more. The great part is it heats up very quickly and cooks the food much faster than a traditional oven.
We made gourmet burgers tonight in it and they were delicious. They remained very juicy and the taste was wonderful.
We have made the same burgers before on a George Foreman grill and also in a frying pan. The flavor in these burgers was much better than either of the previous ways we cook them.
Everything we have cooked taste better in this air fryer.
The other reason I was hesitant to buy one is because I do not like to have a lot of appliances taking up my counter space. Because this unit flips up when not in use it eliminated that problem.
I find myself using the air fryer more than my oven. I highly recommended it.
Everything we have that is made by Ninja has been quality thus far. The same applies here.

I have two full kitchens each equipped with plenty of appliances and equipment. I have two Breville Smart ovens as part of that. This Ninja Flip is a good oven for folks that have a limited amount of counter space and need the “flip” feature to gain room. Mind you it’s a good oven. It does a decent job of air frying as well as conventional baking. I did some sweet potato fries that came out nice and crisp while still tender on the inside. A pork roast (that barely fit) came out nice as well. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. That being said – there are some areas that I had issue with. First – the design of the door, having the handle on the side makes it a little difficult to use in anywhere except for a really open space. A center mounted handle (or handles on both sides) would have been batter. Also the sides and top of the oven get extremely hot during use. Its quite easy to get a burn. Lastly- because of its sleek design it has a rather small inner cavity. That really limits the side of what you can cook. I did have an issue with a 2.7 lb. roast that barely fit. Overlooking these issues i have (others may not care), the oven is very easy to use and produces excellent results. It’s great for snacks and smaller portions. It has a sleek, stylish look that fits in any kitchen. Overall – quite nice!
