Customer Reviews Summary

The Samsung S90D Series OLED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV (2024) has generated a wide range of responses from users, but the consensus is largely positive, especially regarding its picture quality and gaming features. Many reviewers are impressed by the deep blacks and vibrant colors that the OLED technology provides, with users stating that the dynamic range and color accuracy create a cinematic viewing experience. One user said, “The colors on this TV are more vibrant compared to others, and the image looks like a clear and beautiful painting.” Additionally, the refresh rate is highly praised by gamers who find that the 120Hz and VRR features make it an ideal companion for gaming consoles such as the PS5. Game Mode Plus has also been highlighted as a standout feature, making the experience smooth and responsive, with users claiming, “The 120Hz refresh rate makes everything buttery smooth, perfect for gamers.” The combination of these features makes this TV one of the most desirable options for those looking for a premium visual and gaming experience.

However, there are some concerns as well. A number of users have reported issues with sound quality, with several complaints about audio problems that require constant resets or even repairs. One user expressed frustration with the inconsistency, saying, “Some days we have sound and other days there is no sound.” This kind of issue can be especially frustrating for those who rely on the TV’s built-in speakers for daily use, as it diminishes the convenience factor. There are also reports of TVs that arrived with broken screens or developed problems shortly after setup, which has been a source of dissatisfaction for some customers. Such issues not only affect the immediate enjoyment of the product but also raise concerns about its long-term reliability.

The setup process received positive remarks overall, as many users found it to be straightforward and quick, taking only a few minutes. The central pedestal stand was another feature that received praise for its design and ease of use compared to the traditional feet that many TVs come with. Reviewers also appreciated the intuitive user interface, although a few users pointed out that it could be sluggish at times, particularly the Samsung Tizen OS. The Tizen OS, while rich in features, was sometimes described as overly complex and difficult to navigate, especially for users who prefer a more straightforward experience. Despite these minor setbacks, the general consensus on the interface was that it eventually becomes manageable with use, and the wealth of features can be beneficial for those who like to explore various functionalities.

In terms of picture quality, several users emphasized that the OLED technology offered a viewing experience that was miles ahead of traditional LED panels. The deep blacks, combined with vibrant colors, contribute to an image quality that feels lifelike and immersive. One reviewer mentioned, “Watching movies on this TV feels like being in a cinema, with each color popping out in perfect contrast.” The HDR performance was also a highlight, with many users pointing out that the dynamic range made high-definition content truly stand out, bringing out details in both bright and dark scenes. This feature is especially important for those who enjoy watching blockbuster movies or high-quality streaming content, as it enhances the overall viewing experience.

Gamers are particularly enthusiastic about the performance capabilities of the Samsung S90D. The low input lag and 120Hz refresh rate have been major selling points for those who use this TV with the latest gaming consoles. The Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature ensures that there is minimal screen tearing or stuttering during fast-paced gameplay. One reviewer said, “If you’re a serious gamer, this TV will not disappoint. The VRR and 120Hz refresh rate make all the difference in providing a smooth gaming experience, even during graphically intense scenes.” Furthermore, the Game Mode Plus is designed to automatically optimize settings for gaming, which simplifies the process for users and ensures that they get the best performance without needing to manually adjust multiple settings.

Overall, users seem to recommend this product for its superior OLED image quality, excellent gaming features, and the rich depth of colors that set it apart from competitors. Nevertheless, the product does have some drawbacks, including occasional audio issues and a clunky interface. Despite these issues, the overall quality of the TV’s display and its capabilities for gaming make it a favorite among enthusiasts who prioritize visual performance and immersive entertainment.

PROS

  • Vibrant Picture Quality: The OLED panel delivers stunning visuals with deep blacks, rich contrast, and impressive color accuracy. One reviewer noted, “The colors are vibrant, and the black levels are perfect. It creates a true cinematic experience.” The OLED technology also contributes to excellent viewing angles, meaning the picture remains sharp and colorful even when viewed from the side, making it ideal for larger rooms or group settings.
  • Gaming Performance: The 120Hz refresh rate and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) features make this TV perfect for gaming, providing smooth motion and reduced input lag. A user mentioned, “The Game Mode Plus feature made gaming on this TV a dream, with no noticeable lag.” The low latency and quick response times ensure that even fast-paced games are handled without any motion blur, providing a competitive edge for gamers who require precision.
  • User-Friendly Setup: The setup process is praised for being quick and easy. A user wrote, “Setup was straightforward and took only about 10 minutes from unboxing to turning it on.” The TV also supports a variety of smart features that allow for easy connectivity with other devices, such as smartphones and smart home systems, making it highly convenient for tech-savvy users.
  • Stand Design: The central pedestal stand is seen as a significant improvement over traditional legs. It adds stability and allows for easier placement on different surfaces. One user mentioned, “The pedestal stand is sleek and functional, much better than the wobbly feet that came with my previous TV.” This stand also makes the TV less prone to tipping over, which is a great safety feature for households with children or pets.

CONS

  • Sound Issues: Some users have reported sound problems, including the audio cutting out unexpectedly or speakers malfunctioning entirely. A reviewer stated, “After just a few hours of use, the speakers started acting up, and I had to get them replaced.” These issues can be a significant drawback for those who do not plan on using an external sound system. Users who value high-quality sound may need to invest in a soundbar or external speakers to fully enjoy their viewing experience.
  • Brightness Levels: The TV’s brightness may be insufficient for some HDR scenes, especially in rooms with a lot of ambient light. One reviewer mentioned, “In its most accurate mode, the TV couldn’t go past 600 nits, which affects highlight detail in HDR scenes.” This can be particularly noticeable when watching content during the day or in brightly lit rooms. Users who require a brighter display for well-lit environments might find this TV less suitable compared to other high-end models that offer greater brightness.
  • Clunky User Interface: The Samsung Tizen OS can be sluggish and overwhelming due to the numerous features and built-in ads. One user complained, “The UI is clunky, with too many features that I don’t need. It sometimes takes several seconds to respond.” For users who prefer a streamlined experience, the Tizen OS may feel overly complicated, and the presence of ads can detract from the overall user satisfaction. Nevertheless, some users did appreciate the variety of available apps and customization options, once they became accustomed to the interface.
  • Build Quality Issues: A few users experienced problems with the build quality, such as broken screens on arrival or poorly installed HDMI ports. A reviewer said, “The HDMI ports felt loose, and the screen was damaged out of the box.” These issues suggest that quality control may be inconsistent, and buyers should consider purchasing from a retailer with a good return policy. Despite these concerns, most users did not experience such issues, and the majority of feedback on build quality was positive.

Who Should Buy?

The Samsung S90D Series OLED 4K UHD Smart Tizen TV is ideal for those seeking an immersive viewing experience with vibrant colors and deep blacks, perfect for movie buffs and gamers alike. Gamers, in particular, will benefit from its 120Hz refresh rate and VRR capabilities, which provide smooth gameplay and enhanced responsiveness. This TV is also a great choice for those who want a sleek and easy-to-setup TV, especially for use in darker rooms where its OLED capabilities shine the most. Additionally, households that often host gatherings may find the wide viewing angles beneficial, as it ensures that everyone has a good view, regardless of their seating position.

On the other hand, it may not be the best option for those needing high brightness levels in well-lit spaces or those who prioritize sound quality without additional audio equipment. Users who are sensitive to interface performance may also find the Tizen OS to be slightly cumbersome. If you already own an external sound system and typically watch TV in a darker environment, this TV will be an excellent fit.

Do Users Recommend It?

Most users recommend the Samsung S90D Series OLED TV for its excellent picture quality and immersive gaming features. The OLED technology provides a deep and accurate color representation, making it a standout for both gaming and movie-watching experiences. Many users have expressed satisfaction with the game mode capabilities, noting how well the TV adapts to different types of games and content. The combination of 120Hz refresh rate, VRR, and Game Mode Plus makes it a top contender for gamers looking for a responsive and visually impressive display.

However, the audio issues and interface limitations mean that buyers should be aware of potential drawbacks. Users who are prepared to invest in a soundbar or other audio solutions will likely find these issues more manageable. Many reviewers noted that the pros outweigh the cons, especially when paired with external speakers for better sound quality. In terms of picture quality, the TV delivers a truly top-tier experience, with vivid colors, exceptional black levels, and smooth motion handling that make it well worth the investment. If you are looking for a top-tier picture and an easy setup with a sleek design, this TV will likely meet your expectations. Those who value a sophisticated design and premium OLED technology will find this TV to be an exceptional choice for both entertainment and gaming purposes.

After 4 days, black screens but with sound

The five days of useless Samsung text support finally told me to fix the problem, , , It is a Mainer glitch on the TV, due to the glitches the issue occurred. Please perform the below step if get the same issue again.

Over time your TV can run low on memory, or a residual electrical charge can build up in your TV. This can result in some funky glitches like an app that stops responding, the menu not opening, or just taking a long time to turn on.

Discharging or cold booting your TV drains the charge and resets the main board. If something really weird is happening, try this:

With the TV on, press and hold the power button on your Samsung TV remote until the TV turns off and back on. When the TV comes back on, everything should be back to normal.

Is this something humans do all the time to watch their TV’s???

Fantastic Unit. Don't buy if you have a QLED though.

This is a really great unit. It does 4k/144/HDR/VRR/ALLM . Which is what everyone wants really. Its HDMI 2.1. Paired with a good receiver this is probably the best bang for the buck right now if you want an OLED.

Picture quality is amazing. But compared to Samsungs QLED and NEO-QLED you will get very similar results minus details in the shadows. This OLED has far superior detail when in dark scenes. So long as you setup the panel correctly. Default settings will not get the job done.

I compared this unit next to a NEO-QLED that I had setup as well. Both were setup as close as you could get in the settings. This is how I determined the image quality. If you can get a NEO-QLED with HDMI 2.1, you would save about $400 depending on which one you purchased. And you would still be happy with that purchase.

I will say that the S90D has a much better Game Mode than I was expecting. It has tons of options for HDR and Black Levels. You’ll be surprised for sure.

Good product and great vendor

This TV provides a great picture with pretty good sound even without a sound bar. It is easy to set up and use. (The only glitch was that Samsung’s website was down on the day we set up so we could not use its app to operate the TV for a day. Our Amazon Firestick, however, integrated immediately. We also could integrate our existing (and somewhat old) sound bar with the TV without issue. We were able to mount the TV on our existing wall mount without outside help as well. The upgrade in picture quality from our 10 year old plasma screen is to large too be measurable. Great for watching the Olympics, other sports and movies.

I also have to give kudos to our vendor via Amazon, The Big Screen Store. First, they offered us a price below the price of all the big box stores. Second, a human being contacted us in less than 24 hours to arrange delivery. Third the delivery team was on the phone with us at start of the next morning to arrange delivery and the team arrived at the start of their three hour delivery window. Fourth, the team brought in the TV, took it upstairs to the room where it would be set up and tested it (all at no charge). They offered to take away the packing and were done in a few minutes. The store offered relevant extra equipment and services but did not press us when we said we did not need them. Given some of the nightmare experiences I have had with deliveries from some other major retailers, this was an easy and pleasurable transaction.

Didn't last a day. | Update

Received replacement TV and it has been a couple of days with no problems. Picture quality is good, audio is as good as a a tv can get (Not great but good enough). OS is a bit hard to use but it’s ok to me since I have an Apple TV.
Returning the broken TV has been a headache. With no original package Amazon drivers don’t want to take it back, even though the return it says that the original package is not required.
Word of advice, keep the packaging even if you get the installation service, the only time I didn’t want to keep the packaging and now I regret it.

Today in the morning, my new 77″ TV was delivered and installed by Amazon Professionals. This morning everything looked good, at lunch time everything looked great, at dinner time the TV started to show a pink vertical line on the screen. I was very disappointed since I was not expecting Samsung to have this design or quality control issues.
A replacement is on its way here so I hope is not a bad batch of TVs because otherwise I will have to go with a more reliable brand like Sony.

I’ll post and update after I get the replacement.

55 inch Samsung OLED 4K QN55S90D Series HDR Smart TV 2024 model

Love the 55 inch Samsung OLED 4K QN55S90D Smart TV. Easy to set up. SOUND, PICTURE QUALITY, AND REFRESH RATE ARE EXCELLENT!!! Price is reasonable through Amazon.

The only negative that I have experienced is the extremely small TV remote. I usually use a larger remote to manipulate stations and sound. I leave the remote that was sent with this TV for changing settings. Once you get into the settings, it is very intuitive. I am 80 yrs old without having difficulty setting specifics of what I like in contrast, color, tone, sound etc.

I would highly recommend this particular style of a Samsung TV. This is the second Samsung that I have owned. The last one lasted 15 years.

Dead After 1 Week

Seems to be common problem amongst their TVs. Unfortunately, device would not power on after using for a week. 77” tv mounted. Huge pain to install/uninstall. Proper surge protection was used. Followed recovery directions. No luck. Luckily Amazon is really easy to return stuff. I don’t buy anything other than TVs/Soundbars from Samsung due to boards and chipsets failing. The TVs haven’t let me down in the past. I guess this is the new Samsung. Just garbage across the board. Should have took the low star reviews more seriously.

Btw it’s an awesome TV. Too bad their power board manufacturer eats crayons and drinks lead paint.

Performance could be slightly better for the price

For this review, I made sure to test out this product for at least two weeks to really see how well this works. I’ll start with the positives and say that this TV is CRISP. I’ve never bought a TV that is as thin as this one on the sides. If you were to just hold the top of the screen, you would realize that it is thinner than a pen or a pencil. On top of that, Samsung’s OLED is definitely top of the line in terms of picture quality. You could run content in full 2160p which is true 4K. It states that there’s some sorts of 3D processing with what you see and I think that is somewhat true. Watching a show or video that has content moving towards you does very slightly look like it pops out of the TV. It won’t be as apparent as watching something with true 3D glasses, but it’s just enough to notice it. Samsung’s UI on this TV is also pretty intuitive and it can connect to a bunch of different apps or even your own devices. I connect my Xbox to the TV and without doing anything else, the TV can turn on my Xbox as I switch to that input. Overall, extremely high quality TV for the price.
The only reason this TV gets a four-star rating instead of a five star rating would be the performance of the TV itself. Samsung notes about the internal processor on this TV and how it should be fairly quick. From the day I set up the TV to today, I think this TV could be quicker considering the price point. Opening an app on my console or even my other TV tends to be much quicker than opening an app on this TV’s native UI. You will see a loading logo pop up and a small status bar that shows you when the app is loaded. I’m not saying that this TV is slow or laggy, but what I’m saying is it also isn’t the quickest TV in terms of processing. For me, it works a lot better to use my console to open apps and play it in high quality since they open much quicker on there. Even with that said, I still do use the apps on Samsung’s UI and find they will still get the job done. The other downside would be just the overall layout of the UI and trying to find something specifically. Some things aren’t directly laid out such as the inputs, so it may take a little bit of clicking just to get the proper action that you intended. Once you get a hang of the TV, you start to realize where everything is and it becomes a lot less noticeable. For one of the latest TVs on the market that’s OLED and 4K, I think this is a pretty good product. The quality alone and how thin it is sells me on this TV. The only downside I would say is don’t expect lightning fast performance out of the chipset on the TV, but it still will be an incredible TV and has a lot to deliver.

Best picture ever

I am not a techie. I am just an average guy who appreciates a great TV, and I really appreciate an easy setup process.

Unpacking this beautiful TV is easy, but I recommend 2 people to get it out and setup. As soon as you receive your TV, check the box and make sure it wasn’t dropped. Our first TV we ordered had been dropped and literally did not work.

The TV is THIN, like as THIN as a smart phone. Be extra diligent while handling the TV as it would be easy to damage.

The initial setup was easy. I did not setup a Samsung account, and I just hooked up to my Roku.

The picture is insanely vivid. Bright, crisp and sharp. It handles all the data effortlessly. The speakers are fantastic. For stock speakers, the sound is really impressive.

The remote is easy to use. But I recommend using your native remote for your streaming device. The translation from Samsung to Roku did not always pan out easily.

Overall, I am stoked on this TV. I highly absolutely recommend it.

Incredible features - this TV is on a whole new level!

This TV is amazing! Our old one was still considered a “Smart TV”, but I can’t believe the difference in quality and features between the two. I initially ordered this for our game room, but, after temporarily setting it up in our bedroom, I’m starting to think it might stay there.
I should note that is the first TV I’ve ever set up on my own. From unboxing it to having it fully set-up (including adding and/or signing into our existing apps, hooking up Alexa, etc.), it took just under an hour. My husband is the one who typically sets everything up. He claimed he could’ve done it in a quarter of the time, and he’s probably right, but I still didn’t think it was bad for a novice installer who actually reads the manuals.
There were a handful of instruction guides, but the Unpacking and Installation sheet was helpful for the initial setup. Since this was supposed to be a temporarily location, I decided to use the included stand (vs mounting it to the wall). I inserted the legs into the stand, then attached them to the back of the TV. I peeled off the protective film from the screen – which was weirdly satisfying – and plugged in the power cord. I took a deep breath as I turned it on, then watched in awe as the most brilliant colors filled the screen. I took several pictures from start to finish, but they definitely didn’t do this any justice.
Perhaps I’m behind the times, but I could write an entire review on the remote alone. For starters, you charge it with a USB-C cord, so no changing batteries. I’m sure it came with a slight charge already, but I plugged it in (note: charging cord not included), and it was fully charged in about 20-25 minutes. You can tell it’s done because the red LED light just below the Mic button turns off. There’s also a little guide specifically for the remote that lists all the buttons and what they do. The coolest feature has to be the solar cell built into the back of the remote. I’ve never seen this before. We have a lot of windows in our bedroom, so I’ve been leaving it on a windowsill when not in use, and now it stays charged all the time. The accessibility shortcut buttons are also really convenient. I’ve been using the Mic a lot (voice assistance) and it’s game-changing once you get the hang of it.
Back to the setup. There were two options that appeared on the screen: Smartphone, which is quick and easy, or Remote, which is step-by-step. I chose remote, but it still gave you the option to use your phone during most, if not all of the steps. They made it incredibly easy – it walked you though linking Wi-Fi, installing any updates, etc. Then you got to personalize the home screen by signing in or signing up for various apps. This is where your smart phone comes in really handy. You can still sign in with the remote, but there’s also a QR code that makes it super quick and easy. It even automatically enters the code from the screen onto your phone. I decided to delete a few of the preinstalled apps I didn’t need from the home screen, then added others using the search feature. I wouldn’t consider myself technically savvy, and I still found it all very easy.
Saving the best for last: the sound and picture quality. It’s unbelievable. Everything is crystal clear, even without my glasses, and it sounds like there are external speakers hooked up (which there aren’t). I’ve always had good luck with Samsung products, and this certainly didn’t disappoint.

Good TV; Too Bright; Bad Remote

The TV has excellent resolution, responsiveness, color, sound, and additional features. I bought this for my bedroom, however the brightness cannot be turned down to a comfortable level at night. The remote is also terrible. This may sound like an unusual complaint, but it is not unique enough (almost mirrored on both sides of the channel and volume button) where I can pick it up and know exactly which way it is facing unless I look at it. As previously stated, I bought this for my bedroom, and at night I have to be careful otherwise I might accidentally press the button for ‘Netflix’, instead of ‘Back’. Because of these stupid shortcut buttons integrated into the remote, I’ve had to rewatch adds when returning back to my orginal program.
