Customer Reviews Summary

The Gigabyte M34WQ 34″ 21:9 WQHD UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor has received a generally positive response from users, with numerous reviews highlighting its excellent performance for gaming and productivity. Users appreciate its 3440×1440 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync capabilities, which provide a smooth and immersive gaming experience. Many customers praised the IPS panel for its accurate colors and wide viewing angles, making it suitable for both work and entertainment. The KVM switch is also a favorite feature, allowing users to seamlessly switch between multiple devices, making the monitor ideal for hybrid work environments. Build quality and ergonomics are other aspects that received commendation, with users mentioning the sturdy stand and height adjustability.

However, some users reported issues with IPS glow and backlight bleed, particularly when used in dark environments. These are common characteristics of IPS technology, but for some users, the visibility of backlight bleed was distracting. A few users also encountered problems with dead pixels, which negatively impacted their experience. Despite these issues, many users found the monitor to be excellent value for its price, especially compared to more expensive alternatives in the same category.

The HDR performance was noted to be underwhelming by some users, who found that it did not meet their expectations for vibrant colors and deep blacks. Additionally, several customers found the KVM switch setup to be challenging, requiring specific cables to function correctly. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Gigabyte M34WQ remains a popular choice for users seeking a versatile ultrawide monitor that combines gaming performance with productivity features at a reasonable price point.

PROS

  • Versatile KVM Switch: The built-in KVM switch is highly appreciated by users who need to switch between multiple devices. A user mentioned: “The KVM feature is brilliant… When I need to work on my laptop, I connect it to the monitor via HDMI, press the KVM button, and my mouse and keyboard switch to the laptop along with the display.”
  • Smooth Gaming Performance: The 144Hz refresh rate combined with FreeSync delivers a buttery-smooth gaming experience, especially when used with a compatible graphics card. Users love the lack of screen tearing and the overall fluidity in gaming. One user stated: “FreeSync is just fantastic. It works flawlessly, and it’s so nice to finally be able to turn off vsync and just play without any screen tearing.”
  • Color Accuracy and Brightness: Many users appreciated the vivid colors and good brightness levels offered by the IPS panel, which makes it suitable for creative work and casual entertainment. The monitor’s sRGB mode also makes it a solid choice for tasks that require color accuracy.
  • Ergonomics and Build Quality: The sturdy stand and height adjustment features were positively highlighted by multiple reviewers. Users found the monitor’s build quality reassuring, with one noting: “The build of the monitor itself is super heavy, but the features make up for it. You can adjust the height of the monitor, which is a very nice feature.”
  • Productivity Boost: The 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio provides ample screen real estate for productivity tasks, such as having multiple windows open side by side. One user mentioned that they could easily work with “3 documents side-by-side,” which was a significant benefit for their workflow.

CONS

  • IPS Glow and Backlight Bleed: A common complaint among users is the IPS glow and backlight bleed, especially noticeable in darker rooms. One user commented: “In a pitch-black room, the dark parts of games get really washed out… It is something that you need to consider if you often work or play in low-light environments.”
  • Dead Pixels and Quality Control: Several users reported dead pixels soon after purchase, which negatively affected their experience. A customer mentioned: “The monitor came with two stuck pixels near the center of the screen. Unfortunately, quality control seems to be an issue.”
  • Challenging KVM Setup: While the KVM switch is a great feature, its setup can be tricky, requiring specific cables and configurations. One user shared: “The KVM function is finicky but really nice once you get it working. I had to buy a cable that was specific about supporting DisplayPort alt mode before I could use it.”
  • Underwhelming HDR Performance: The HDR capability of the monitor did not impress all users, with some mentioning that the HDR mode raised the black levels too much, leading to less satisfying contrast. One reviewer noted: “The HDR looks good in games but not when you’re on the desktop in auto mode.”
  • Not Curved: Some users found that the flat design of the 34-inch ultrawide panel was difficult to adapt to, as they were used to curved screens that are more typical in this size range. “The monitor is so big that not having a curved panel is a bit hard to get used to,” said one customer.

Who Should Buy?

The Gigabyte M34WQ is an excellent choice for those who need a versatile monitor for both work and play. Its ultrawide aspect ratio and KVM switch make it ideal for users who work from home and need to switch between devices seamlessly. Gamers who prioritize a high refresh rate and smooth performance without breaking the bank will also appreciate this monitor. Additionally, professionals who require decent color accuracy for creative tasks, such as photo editing, will find this monitor to be a good fit. However, it may not be the best choice for users who are very sensitive to backlight bleed or those who need a curved panel for better immersion.

Do Users Recommend It?

Overall, users recommend the Gigabyte M34WQ for its great value and versatile features. The high refresh rate, color accuracy, and productivity-enhancing ultrawide aspect ratio are commonly praised. Despite some quality control issues like dead pixels and the challenging KVM setup, many users believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives, especially at this price point. If you can overlook the backlight bleed and flat design, this monitor offers an excellent mix of performance and features for both gaming and productivity.

Great monitor with flawless KVM

Overall Review: Wanted an ultrawide with KVM support and 144hz and this was by far the best value. On arrival and setup, I was pleasantly surprised. Build quality is good. Picture quality is excellent and smooth at high refresh rates. HDR is decent. OSD is usable and there is a a desktop app (although it’s a little buggy).

KVM works exactly as you would expect using a PC with DisplayPort/USB-uplink and a laptop with USB-C. Pressing the KVM button switches keyboard, mouse, video between the two in a second or so, exactly as you would expect it to without any bugs or hiccups. In addition, when using PBP or PIP, pressing the KVM button keeps the PBP and only switches the keyboard and mouse! Pretty dope. VESA mount worked well. Speakers are terrible, but really what do you expect from a monitor…Only major gripe is reaching around the back to hit the KVM or the OSD is a bit annoying but /shrug.

Overall, big thumbs up for this one.

LISTEN TO THE ONE OTHER GUY’S REVIEW

EDIT:I moved this from a 3 star to 4 star just because of the ease of returning this. I had to ask them for a return label, but they received my package in about a week or two and now just waiting on the refund in 3-5 business days. I was only charged $75 for restocking, so I don’t think that its too bad and was worried about buying from a 3rd party seller. So if you want this monitor I say its worth a shot! Return was through UPS.

Ok, so first of all – specs amazing. Everywhere there’s it’s great for gaming, no ghosting, decent refresh rate, all these amazing things…. And yet it really doesn’t feel ergonomic. I wanted a curved screen, but all of the data and recommendations pointed that this monitor was the perfect balance of everything I was looking for. Heck, even the stand has the swivel, the tilt, the adjustability…but for office work – what this guy says is true. For such a large screen, it’s hard to focus on anything without the curve. I should’ve tried gaming on it, yes, it is probably good – but for any other task, it’s a borderline nuisance to own this monitor. It felt like a downgrade from my two cheap 27in LG monitors.

For $600, I knew it would have some kinks because it’s a mid-tier monitor – not the best, but pretty darn good for what it is. But I’m 100% going to return it because it just isn’t suitable for me. For the dream cool-looking and functional setup, it just doesn’t work like I thought it would. It’s really not a bad monitor, but for this price, it doesn’t seem worth it. It seemed fuzzy too, even after changing the resolution settings. People were trying to convince me not to get a 34 inch due to fuzziness, and if I did – get a flat one. The fuzziness I was trying to tell myself it isn’t that bad – but when it came down to it, I was just left feeling disappointed because of all the hype that this monitor was the perfect affordable middle ground, when it really isn’t. Like at this point forget it and either get a cheap or super expensive monitor.

I think I’m going to take a risk on the curved ones, although the blacks and grays wont be as good, and even any other side effect. I think it still may be better than this one. Its so much effort to try and return it too 🙁 100% super sad this monitor didn’t work out, it has a lot of great reviews but if you’re sitting to close to it…it may not work out for you. So much for immersion

Excellent Monitor but it came with one dead pixel

Pros: Beautiful 34 inch monitor with excellent colors and the high refresh rate is amazing!

Cons: Came with ONE dead pixel, dead center on my screen. It’s not so bad but when I do notice it, it kinda feels like its mocking me.

The color’s are great with the exception of the blacks being more grey (which can be expected of a panel like this one) so in a dark room it always feels like there is a bit of residual glare in dark spots of video games.

Overall Review: Lovely monitor, excellent for the price. I wish it didn’t have this single dead pixel but I’m honestly not sure what to do about it.

Finally a non-curved monitor that’s great for gaming

This is the holy grail of monitors for me. A non-curved 3440×1440 with FreeSync and a 144hz refresh rate, and with a great one-touch KVM as a bonus!

The screen is gorgeous and bright, with great contrast and nice wide viewing angles. The on-screen controls give you plenty of adjustments, including a SRGB mode and game optimizations. There is some IPS glow and some black unevenness, but that’s only noticeable on a completely black screen in a dark room. It’s just the nature of IPS screens, and it’s better in that regard than my old LG 34UM65 was.

The FreeSync is just fantastic. It works flawlessly with the two cards I’ve tried it with – a Nvidia 2080 Super and the card I replaced it with, a Nvidia 3080TI. It’s so nice to finally be able to turn off vsync and just play without any screen tearing.

The KVM feature is brilliant. I plugged my keyboard and mouse into the monitor’s two USB ports, then connected the USB-C to my PC. Everything works as expected. When I need to work on my laptop, I connect it to the monitor via HDMI and the USB Upstream port, press the KVM button, and my mouse and keyboard switches to the laptop along with the display. One button press and I’m back to my PC.

From VA ultrawide to this

I bought this after trying out the curved va version of Gigabyte, I use solely to sim race on ACC. I was afraid the flat panel will be drastic change from the curve 34 inch. After about a week with the VA panel I couldnt take the ghosting and smearing , even on a racing game it was noticeable. This IPS model is well worth change. The flat panel has made no difference to me, this is all subjective. I suggest you try both a curve and flat panel to see what you prefer.

Gigabyte M34WQ delivers, but tricky KVM setup keeps it from being perfect

Pros: -34″ Ultrawide screen offers loads of real estate for both work and play
-144Hz via DP offers buttery-smooth performance
-Colors look great, but blacks are a little too grey. Only noticeable when it’s really dark room.
-The M34WQ offers pretty good ergonomics
-Built-in KVM switch for utilizing different devices. Once I figured it out, it’s been such a huge benefit allowing me to switch from my home laptop and work laptop!

Cons: -KVM switch setup was wonky and a bit difficult, for me. Gigabyte doesn’t really provide adequate instructions for setting it up. It took me a few days of trail and error testing different cables and configurations to get the desired results.
-I had some issues with screen resolution and refresh rate with my work laptop (using HDMI). It may have correlated with the KVM issue; the M34WQ was suffering from “right screen shift” and judder. I seem to have it resolved and I’m pleased to say that the resolution issues have ceased. Switching between laptops via KVM button is working flawlessly!

Overall Review: Overall, I would absolutely recommend this monitor to anyone looking to experience the joy of an ultrawide monitor! There’s absolutely nothing else comparable at this price point of $489! After loads of research (I’m talking months!), the closest thing I could find with almost identical specs, was LG’s 34GN850-B and 34GP950G-B, but you’re looking at spending about $1000-$1300 with just slightly higher refresh rates and some mediocre RGB lighting and no built-in KVM! So, this monitor is an absolute steal! Being able to switch from my work laptop to my personal laptop/desktop via the built-in KVM switch has been terrific (once you get it set up properly, though). I’ve had no issues with text or font will using it for work emails and productivity. Gaming has been buttery smooth at 144hz refresh rate over DP and using the FPS reticle and tools are extremely helpful in getting off timely shots at the enemy. I play a lot of Civ VI, too, and the speed and real estate has greatly improved my gaming experience. If you’re in the market for a new monitor and have been contemplating going to a larger 3440 x 1440 (21:9) or higher monitor, let me tell you to look no further. You won’t be disappointed with the performance of this monitor! It’s been excellent!

Stuck Pixels on Two Different Monitors

I bought the M34WQ ultrawide monitor. It came with two stuck pixels near center of the screen. Amazon sent a replacement. Replacement model was fine for a few days but now it’s developing a stuck pixel in almost the exact same location as the previous monitor. It’s already uncommon for new monitors to have stuck pixels, but two in a row? If the monitor didn’t have any defects, it’s a real bang for your buck, like you’re not going to find a similarly priced ultrawide with these specs. Unfortunately, quality control seems to be an issue. I wouldn’t recommend buying the M34WQ.

Perfect Mix for Work and Play

I bought this monitor because I have two laptops, one provided by my job and my personal one for gaming, and I saw this had an internal KVM switch. This is the perfect monitor for me. KVM works flawlessly going between the two systems without struggling with swapping peripherals. As a work monitor, it’s solid. Plenty of space to have 3 documents side-by-side (I personally use FancyZones to do this) and I’ll put the screen on Reader mode to take it easy on my eyes. As a gaming monitor, I’m in love! 144Hz is PLENTY fast unless you’re legitimately competitive in online gaming. It looks great and I truly couldn’t be happier.

Monitor came thoughtfully and securely packaged. I’m genuinely impressed with Gigabyte’s packaging, as weird as that may sound. The stand seems solid, but I honestly didn’t end up using it. I put this on a pneumatic arm (a well-reviewed random brand here on Amazon that was like $50-ish) and it’s been great. I’ll definitely be returning to Gigabyte the next time I’m on the market for my computer needs.

One small dead pixel

Pros: All the specs and performance of the screen are spot on

Cons: One dead pixel in the central viewing area of the screen ruins the entire experience.

Overall Review: Quality control on these has to ne terrible though with the sheer number of people who have received them day 1 with dead pixels right out of the box. It’s small but it’s bad enough that my ocd won’t allow me to rest with it. Not sure it’s worth all my effort to try and have it replaced either though.

Fantastic Monitor for Great Value

Switched from an LG 27″ to this as my first ultrawide monitor. Wanted the KVM functionality and the price was hard to beat. Was a bit worried given reviews mentioning quality issues but figured for the price it was worth risking a few returns.

Got a perfectly functioning monitor on the first go around. No dead pixels and works exactly as intended. Picture quality is great, directly comparable to my LG. This monitor is an absolute steal.

Also just a note: I initially had some brutal stuttering. Turned out it was my cable. I originally had a display port without the clips, and it stuttered constantly and it was hard to get a good connection. I switched to a DP with clips and it worked perfectly. Also tried an HDMI that worked perfectly as well. So if you’re having flickering issues make sure you check the cord before you assume its the monitor!
