Customer Review Summary
The Panasonic NN-SV79MS 1200W 1.4 cu.ft. Inverter Microwave Oven has garnered a mix of appreciation and criticism from its users. Most customers appreciate its Alexa integration, which makes the microwave incredibly convenient, especially for those with vision impairments. The smart inverter technology has been praised for heating food evenly and accurately, providing consistent results every time. Many users have highlighted the convenience of controlling the microwave through voice commands, especially since it doesn’t come with a typical numeric keypad. The sensor cooking function is often cited as one of the most valuable features, as it automatically adjusts cooking times and power levels for a variety of dishes, ensuring optimal cooking results without the need for manual input.
In addition to these features, users appreciate the compact size of the microwave, which fits well into small kitchens while still delivering powerful performance. The quiet operation is another feature that has been praised, as it makes using the microwave a more pleasant experience, especially in households where noise can be a concern. Users also like the modern design, which not only looks stylish but also makes it easy to operate, thanks to its simple layout and well-placed controls. The logarithmic time set dial is particularly appreciated for its intuitive operation, allowing users to quickly set cooking times with ease.
However, the microwave also has some drawbacks. Some users have found the build quality to be lacking, with complaints about buttons sticking and issues with the power cord. The clock feature is another frequent point of contention, as it does not remain displayed after cooking, which some users find inconvenient. There are also concerns about the Alexa connection stability, as it occasionally disconnects, requiring manual reconnection. Despite these drawbacks, a majority of reviewers still find the Panasonic NN-SV79MS to be a worthwhile investment, particularly for its smart features and powerful performance. Overall, the microwave offers a combination of advanced technology and convenience that appeals to a wide range of users.
PROS
- Alexa Integration: Many customers love the ease of controlling the microwave through voice commands with Alexa. One user said, “I love being able to just say, ‘Alexa, heat for 30 seconds,’ without touching any buttons.” This feature has made the microwave particularly popular among users with low vision, as it removes the need for navigating a keypad. Users also appreciate that the voice commands make multitasking in the kitchen easier, allowing them to focus on other tasks while the microwave operates.
- Inverter Technology: The microwave uses inverter technology, which ensures even cooking and efficient defrosting. One user noted, “The defrost sensor mode is amazing; my food is perfect every time.” The consistent heating and smooth power adjustments are significant upgrades compared to traditional microwaves. This technology prevents overcooking or cold spots, making it ideal for a variety of cooking tasks, from reheating leftovers to defrosting frozen items.
- Smart Design: The overall design of the microwave is described as modern and easy to use. Several users appreciated the logarithmic time set dial, allowing users to quickly set cooking times with precision by adjusting the spin speed. “Spin slowly to go to 20 sec, spin a little faster and you’re at 2 minutes — brilliant design,” one review highlighted. The minimalist button layout also reduces clutter and makes the microwave easier to clean, which adds to the overall user experience.
- Quiet Operation: Several users have mentioned that the microwave runs quietly, which is a significant plus for those who dislike the loud hum of typical microwaves. One customer said, “This is one of the quietest microwaves I have ever used.” The quiet operation makes it suitable for open-concept living spaces, where excessive noise could be disruptive.
- Easy to Clean: Users have praised the microwave for its easy-to-clean interior. The smooth surfaces and simple design make wiping down the inside a breeze, which is a convenience many appreciate. The stainless-steel interior also resists stains and odors, making it easier to maintain over time, which is particularly important for those who use their microwave frequently.
- Multiple Cooking Modes: The microwave offers several cooking modes, including defrost, reheat, and sensor cook, which adjust the power and time automatically for different types of food. Users have found these modes to be highly convenient, eliminating the guesswork involved in setting cooking times and ensuring that food is cooked properly every time.
CONS
- Clock Does Not Stay On: One of the most frequently mentioned issues is that the clock display does not stay on after a few minutes of inactivity, which can be frustrating for users who rely on this feature. “Why have a clock if it turns off after 3 minutes? I had to put a separate wall clock in the kitchen,” one customer commented. This issue has been particularly bothersome for users who are used to having a visible clock in their kitchen.
- Build Quality Concerns: Some customers have expressed disappointment in the build quality of the microwave. One user mentioned that “the button started sticking within weeks,” while another noted that their unit “came without a power cord installed,” which required a return. These issues highlight some inconsistencies in manufacturing, which can be a concern for those looking for a long-lasting appliance. There have also been reports of the door mechanism feeling flimsy, which has led to doubts about the microwave’s durability over time.
- Alexa Connection Issues: A few users found the Alexa integration to be unreliable, with occasional connection drops. “Sometimes the Alexa connection is slow or drops, which means I have to manually reconnect,” reported one reviewer. This has been a source of frustration, especially for those who bought the microwave primarily for its smart capabilities. Users have suggested that a more stable connection or a dedicated app update could help resolve these issues.
- Dim Interior Light: Some users have noted that the interior light is not bright enough, making it difficult to see the food while it is cooking. “The interior light is quite dim compared to my previous microwave, which makes checking on food a bit challenging,” one user commented. This can be an inconvenience, especially when trying to monitor cooking progress without opening the door and interrupting the process.
- Complex Manual: A few users have mentioned that the instruction manual is complex and difficult to follow, especially for those who are not tech-savvy. “The manual is quite lengthy and not very user-friendly,” one customer noted. This has made the initial setup and learning process more challenging for some, detracting from the otherwise user-friendly design of the microwave.
Who Should Buy?
The Panasonic NN-SV79MS is ideal for individuals who are seeking a smart kitchen upgrade with voice command functionality. It is particularly well-suited for users with low vision or mobility challenges, as the Alexa integration allows for hands-free control. Additionally, anyone who appreciates precise cooking controls and the latest in inverter technology for consistent heating will find this microwave to be a great addition to their kitchen. Its compact size also makes it a good choice for those with limited counter space who do not want to compromise on power. However, those who prioritize a built-in clock or expect highly durable build quality may need to consider other options, as some aspects of the design may fall short of expectations.
This microwave is also suitable for tech enthusiasts who enjoy integrating smart devices into their home. The ability to control cooking through voice commands adds an element of convenience that is especially useful for multitaskers. Families who want a microwave that is both powerful and versatile will also benefit from the multiple cooking modes and efficient performance of this unit.
Do Users Recommend This Product?
Most users recommend the Panasonic NN-SV79MS due to its smart features and advanced cooking technology. The convenience of voice control, sensor cooking, and consistent heating performance has impressed many. Users appreciate how the smart integration simplifies cooking tasks and the way inverter technology improves cooking results, making it easy to achieve perfect results without manual adjustments. The quiet operation and compact design are also highly valued, particularly by those with open-concept kitchens or limited space.
However, some users are deterred by the build quality issues and the absence of a constant clock display, which impacts the overall experience for them. The Alexa connection problems have also been a point of frustration for some, but many users are hopeful that software updates will improve the reliability of this feature. Despite these downsides, the general sentiment is positive, especially among those who value smart home integration and are looking for a microwave that can keep up with their modern lifestyle. The advanced features, combined with the intuitive design, make this microwave a popular choice for those looking for both functionality and convenience in their kitchen appliances.

Brilliant microwave, with all the bells and whistles!
We purchased this microwave to replace another smaller model, of a different brand. It was on the fritz and I was excited to exchange it for something bigger and better. Having always been limited with what we could fit in our microwave, I was pleasantly surprised by the generous capacity of this unit; to say this was an upgrade would be an understatement. We love the sleek look of the stainless steel and appreciate the ease of cleaning. I read other reviews that complained that the interior light isn’t bright enough but I found it to be very sufficient–perfect lighting for day or night. Upon plugging the unit in, it immediately displayed the current time, which was impressive (we had to reset our other one every time the power went out!). Linking it to our Amazon Echo was the icing on the cake. I know this will be a fantastic option for when I’m cooking/bakiny and my hands are tied up. The technology is a fun touch! We also find that the heat times are much more accurate than our old microwave, which sometimes required us to play around to get the desired outcome. We have yet to find anything we are not pleased with! Needless to say, we are really impressed with this new microwave and haply with our decision to purchase this model.

Built well, accurate sensor, integrated well with Alexa. Highly recommend for those with low vision.
We got this for my sister-in-law who is totally blind. Microwave ovens have long been her go-to appliance to prepare meals. She already has an Alexa compatible microwave, but it is small/underpowered as a primary cooking unit. The Panasonic NN-SV79MS is a full-sized/full-power unit that better meets her needs. As her “IT Guy” I set this up and connected with her Alexa. The process was very easy, took no more than a couple of minutes. This is an attractive, nicely designed and built microwave. We haven’t used the physical controls much as the whole purpose was to use through Alexa. The Panasonic NN-SV79MS heats meals/food very evenly and is one of the quietest running microwaves we’ve ever used. The inverter/sensor cooking seems to be very accurate and my SIL usually can use simple commands such as “Alexa, reheat one meal” rather than have to worry about how long to cook something. She has only had this for a bit over a month, so can’t comment on longevity, but this appears to be a very good microwave and especially for those who may be low vision/legally blind (or totally blind).

Microwave of the future
It’s a premium looking microwave. Design looks modern, slick and high-tech. Setup was very simple and intuitive through the Alexa app. Once set up, it was very easy to use with Alexa. I like how the clock is automatically set to the current time.
The smart inverter tech is very impressive. My food heats up very quickly and evenly throughout for both solids and liquids. The sensor reheating is very good at heating up the food on its own. Voice commands to Alexa to control the microwave was very intuitive and easy to use. I never had a problem with the microwave doing something I didn’t intend. Its a pretty cool feeling to be able to voice control a microwave with out pressing any physical buttons. I also liked how the microwave is able to know between solids and liquids, as the the display on the microwave would indicate I should stir or turn over.
I really like the convenience and accuracy of this microwave. It probably one of the most high-tech microwave I’ve owned.

Easiest Appliance Set-Up in the History of Appliances!
I’m not one for reading manuals and will often attempt to use products without even opening them. This microwave let me do that and I have yet to have to check the manual several weeks into ownership! I plugged it in, it detected my nearby Alexa, and the rest is kitchen-ease history! No setting the clock, no guessing cook times, it just KNOWS IT ALL! You can do all your microwaving on voice command (“Alexa reheat one cup of coffee!”) or you can use the quick dial or sensor (when the kids are sleeping and you don’t want to call out to Alexa). The sensor button is magical and somehow knows exactly how long to heat things even if you haven’t indicated what it is! The only glitch I’ve found is when heating up something soon after taking another item out of the microwave, Alexa will sometimes say, “Microwave in use” even though it finished. I’ve found a workaround for this: “Alexa, microwave has stopped” and you are again able to use it. I also wish there was an over-the-stove mountable version, so maybe this review will prompt the manufacturer to get to work on that! I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Very Quiet But Can’t Use As A Clock
A good microwave but does not have a clock that is on always display. I wish this was an option instead of a factory setting that can’t be changed. Very strange.
Alexa integration is excellent.

Can all of my appliances be this cool?
If y’all told me 10 years ago that I’d one day get excited about kitchen appliances, I would have laughed in your face – well, here we are and I am so EXCITED about my new Panasonic Smart Inverter Microwave that Works with Alexa! I feel like Jane Jetson in my kitchen of the future!!! With the combination of Alexa commands in Panasonic’s built-in sensor and Inverter technology, I don’t need to look up instructions, guess at cook times, or cook/defrost/reheat by “trial and error.” The “Genius Sensor” automatically detects the moisture in food and adjusts cook time and power level accordingly and the inverter engines provide a steady stream of cooking power at any level so food comes out evenly cooked. And now, with voice commands, there’s no need to cycle through all the options to find the right food – I just ask Alexa to cook with one of 100+ preset command types. If the Panasonic Smart Inverter Microwave isn’t the microwave of the future, I’m not sure what is!

Quite a surprise! Bought "refurbished" but worked well.
Originally purchased as a plan B if I was unable to repair our 16 year-old microwave. It arrived early and my wife fell in love with it before I fixed our other microwave. Took a couple times to get it linked with Alexa, it does NOT have a microphone or speaker built in: it requires an Alexa device of some sort for communication. Cooking time can be selected in 30 second increments from a button, but the DIAL allows 5 second increments or you can use Alexa for fine adjustments. The only negatives are you cannot ask Alexa how much more time to finish cooking, you can’t request Alexa to notify you when it is done, and the inside LED lighting seems rather dim compared to other microwaves I’ve used. Neutral feelings about having to “Learn” how to talk to it to get quantities or weight correct for thawing, reheating, or cooking.

Cooking made easier
This medium size stainless steel microwave looks and works great. It is a little heavy and I have hard time to take it out of the box. Once installed and ready to use I love it. Quick 30 button I found very handy and useful. This microwave is large inside and the glass turn table can fit a large food container and it can fit 12-inch pizza. The popcorn preset button is perfect to make the perfect popcorn. It can save space in your kitchen by having one appliance instead of several. The instructions were easy to follow. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I think we got down most of what we need after a few days. MWO is easy to manage and care for. It looks stylish in my kitchen and it is quiet to operate. We love the stainless-steel silver design, pull handle design, and easy single push-button start feature. You need to make sure you have adequate space in the back and ventilation surrounding it. Overall solid and gets the job done. I recommend it.

Great except for one design flaw.
This microwave is great except for one flaw. The time of day display does not stay on. It is designed to go off after 3 minutes. It is an annoying feature that makes no sense. Very inconvenient if you always relied on a microwave clock for knowing the time of day. If not for this I would give this appliance a 5.

Impressive technology for evenly heating/cooking
This is my first inverter technology microwave oven, and I am extremely impressed with how it heats/cooks food. The technology does get the heat to the center of any food item. This model has Alexa built inside, making it convenient when you start the microwave near the kitchen or any room in the house. The power cord is high quality, heavy-duty, and has an acceptable length for any countertop or table, 3.75 ft (45 in/ 114cm). Outside dimensions: 17 in wide, 20.5 in length, 12.75 in depth. Inside dimensions: 13.35 in width x 13 in length x 9.15 in depth. The door frame has stainless steel on the front, and the window has a nice little dark tint. The roller with the place is easy to insert and always stays put.
The control panel has a roller knob, which is for Start/Select, Cook Time, Weight, and Auto/Sensor Cook), and six buttons (Microwave, Popcorn, Turbo/Defrost, Quick 30 (second), Timer/Clock, Stop/Reset). The cooking time election is with a roller knob, so there is no numeric pad on the panel. A feature not very common with other microwaves is the Genius’ built-in sensor, which reheats a meal with one push of the dial without selecting power and cooking time. The sensor technology measures the food’s humidity and calculates the necessary time. The sensor can heat 1 to 4 cups of coffee, milk, or soup. Also, the sensor can cook potatoes, fresh/frozen vegetables, frozen pizza/ entrees/ dinners/ breakfast/ nuggets, oatmeal, rice, pasta, and frozen pancake; for best results, make certain food item is within the specified weight range. The operating manual has a couple of charts with instructions and recommendations for various food items and which function to use.
It is easy to set up with Alexa. You download the app on a mobile device, plug the microwave (which will start the setup mode), select add device on the app, follow the instructions to scan the QR code on the microwave door frame, and the app completes the connection. With Alexa, you can start the microwave with voice commands such as cooking for a specific time (e.g., “Alexa, microwave/cook for x time and y seconds), stop/ pause time (“Alexa stop/pause the microwave). Using Alexa on a microwave is great for those who use it for cooking (not just heating) because it allows multi-tasking. You could be making dinner, and you need to defrost a chicken for cooking, but at the same time, you are chopping vegetables; with a busy hand, Alexa would save you time and avoid leaving marks on the microwave control panel. Some items require weight or quantity, such as defrosting chicken breast; “Alexa defrost one lbs of chicken breast.” Giving Alexa command is much easier than going through all the different buttons or knobs. My son’s favorite command is “Alexa, microwave/cook 3.5ox of popcorn,”; and he is impressed that they don’t get burnt and that almost all kernels get popped (except 3-5 kernels). My favorite use is warming my frozen breakfast eggwhich (bread-free sandwich), “Alexa microwave/cook frozen breakfast.” Compared to my old microwave, this Panasonic inverter tech does a fantastic job at cooking my frozen breakfast evenly and at the right temperature without burning edges and cold centers.
Overall, I like this new inverter technology microwave with Alexa. It is straightforward to use, has many functions, and the best part is that it does an impressive job at evenly heating food. Product technology is unique and looks well built.
