Alienware AW2523HF 24.5″ IPS LED FHD 360Hz 0.5ms FreeSync Gaming Monitor
Customer Reviews Summary
The Alienware AW2523HF 24.5″ IPS LED FHD 360Hz 0.5ms FreeSync Gaming Monitor has generally received positive feedback, especially for its high refresh rate and smooth performance in gaming environments. Customers have praised the monitor’s 360Hz refresh rate, which provides a highly responsive experience, making it ideal for fast-paced competitive gaming. Many users mention the excellent image clarity and vibrant colors, which enhance gaming immersion and make content pop on the screen. One customer emphasized, “The colors are accurate and vibrant,” noting that the refresh rate is immediately noticeable. For those using it primarily for competitive gaming, the Alienware AW2523HF has been particularly recommended due to its speed and responsiveness.
Another highlight mentioned frequently by reviewers is the monitor’s low input lag and its compatibility with FreeSync, which help to reduce screen tearing and provide smoother gameplay. Users also appreciated the build quality of the monitor, describing it as sturdy and reliable, especially for gamers who need to transport it frequently. As one satisfied customer said, “Had this over a year and still holding up great. This monitor is used daily to play and stream games. Great display and performance.”
The high refresh rate and fast response time are key features that users consistently praise, particularly when playing first-person shooters and other fast-paced games. The 0.5ms response time ensures that there is virtually no lag, allowing players to respond more quickly to in-game events. Several users highlighted that this feature gave them a noticeable edge in competitive matches. One reviewer noted, “The fast response time, combined with the high refresh rate, has made a huge difference in my gameplay. I feel more connected to the action.”
The design of the monitor is also a point of appreciation among customers. The sleek and futuristic look of the Alienware AW2523HF adds to the gaming aesthetic, and many users felt that it complemented their gaming setups well. The adjustable stand has also been mentioned positively, as it allows for height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustments, providing a comfortable viewing experience during long gaming sessions. As one user put it, “The monitor stand is super versatile, and I love that I can adjust it to fit my exact needs during gameplay or even when I’m working.”
However, there are a few drawbacks that some customers pointed out. The OSD (On-Screen Display) menu has been described as cumbersome, with a laggy interface, and the joystick control can be tricky to use. A few users also found the USB port placements inconvenient, making it challenging to plug devices into them. Some users noted that the monitor’s colors required manual calibration to achieve the best look, as presets were either too saturated or washed out. Despite these issues, the overall sentiment is that the monitor is excellent for those looking for high performance in competitive gaming, particularly if they need a 360Hz refresh rate.
Several users also mentioned that the lack of built-in speakers was a minor inconvenience, especially for those who expected a complete audio-visual experience. While many gamers prefer dedicated external speakers or headsets for a better audio experience, the absence of internal speakers meant that users had to rely on other audio solutions right out of the box. One reviewer commented, “I wish it had built-in speakers for convenience, but honestly, the performance makes up for it. I ended up using my headset, which works great with this setup.”
Another issue that arose in some reviews was related to dead pixels and screen flickering. Although these issues were not widespread, a few customers reported encountering dead pixels shortly after purchasing the monitor. “After about a month, I noticed a dead pixel, which was disappointing,” said one reviewer. Some users also experienced screen flickering, which they attributed to issues with the provided DisplayPort cable. “The screen started flickering, but once I switched to a different cable, the problem was resolved,” shared another user. Despite these occasional issues, the majority of customers found the monitor to be reliable and high-performing.
PROS
- High Refresh Rate: The monitor offers a 360Hz refresh rate, which is excellent for fast-paced gaming, providing an edge to competitive players. A user mentioned, “Movement looks awesome at this monitor’s max refresh rate!” The high refresh rate also helps to minimize motion blur, making it easier to track fast-moving targets.
- Low Input Lag: The low input lag makes it ideal for gaming, especially for first-person shooters and competitive games where every millisecond counts. “Very responsive and gives you that edge you need in FPS,” a customer commented. The combination of low input lag and fast refresh rate ensures that players experience minimal delay between their actions and what they see on screen.
- Vibrant Colors: The colors are vivid and accurate, creating an immersive gaming experience. One reviewer noted, “The clarity of text and images is superb. Motion is extraordinarily smooth.” The IPS panel also provides wide viewing angles, ensuring that colors remain consistent even when viewed from different positions.
- Solid Build Quality: Customers appreciated the monitor’s sturdy build, which makes it suitable for frequent movers. “Sturdy, have packed it up in the car when moving and held up great,” one user remarked. The metallic finish and robust stand add to the premium feel of the monitor, making it both visually appealing and durable.
- Adjustable Stand: The height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustments of the stand provide flexibility and comfort. Users appreciated being able to adjust the monitor to their preferred viewing angle, which is particularly useful for long gaming or work sessions. “The adjustable stand is fantastic, allowing me to customize the height and angle for ultimate comfort,” said a customer.
CONS
- Cumbersome OSD Menu: The OSD menu is described as laggy and difficult to navigate. One user shared, “The joystick is the only button to manipulate the monitor’s settings, and you cannot go directly into the OSD, which makes it cumbersome.” The response time of the OSD could be improved to enhance user experience, especially when making frequent adjustments.
- Inconvenient USB Ports: The placement of the USB ports is not user-friendly, making it challenging to connect additional devices. A user stated, “It’s next to impossible to plug any USB device into the ports.” The ports are located in a way that requires users to fumble around the back of the monitor, which can be frustrating when trying to quickly connect peripherals.
- Color Calibration Needed: The preset color settings are not always ideal, and some manual calibration is required to get the best results. “The colors are washed or horribly over saturated on all the pre-set settings,” commented a customer. Users recommended taking the time to manually adjust the color temperature, brightness, and contrast to achieve the best visual quality.
- Dead Pixels and Screen Issues: A few customers reported dead pixels or screen flickering issues shortly after purchase. “However, it’s like one month old and already has a dead pixel. Sad,” said one user. Although these issues were not widespread, they were significant enough for some users to consider returning the monitor.
- No Built-in Speakers: The monitor lacks built-in speakers, which some users found inconvenient. “I wish it had built-in speakers for convenience,” said a reviewer. While most gamers use headsets or external speakers, having built-in audio would have been a nice addition for casual use.

would be 5/5 but...
this monitor is fabulous like amazingly smooth and if you playing fps, this is the top of the line currently. The only problem that makes the product bad or suck or a 4/5 is the fact that there is alienware bloatware…
Yup you heard that right. I dont understand why or how alienware managed to make it so that itll install alienware software on your pc.
I have no alienware products (other than this monitor) and after using the monitor, theres alienware software on my pc. 4/5 because i know they sleezeballs when it comes to bloatware and poopy prebuilt pc’s, but oh my… to go as far as include a auto download after a couple of hours of using the monitor is ridiculous.
overall tho, i like the features and easy navigation of the monitor, great for fps and fast refresh rate games

Perfect gaming monitor had you just left the RGB
Lets just get the disappointment out of the way. And it is the only disappointment. No RGB. Now lets be fair. RGB on a monitor is pretty useless because you never see it. But i miss seeing my little alienware head reflecting off my window at night.
Now the positives and why this is likely the best competitive IPS monitor available. Keep in mind, panel variance.
There is not ghosting or inverse ghosting on the extreme setting. Why is this important? Because dell has done with this panel what could not be done on the previous models. That being the perfectly tuning of the extreme overdrive setting for the quickest response time. I have tested multiple asus monitors and they all suck in this regard.
Also, if you are concerned that they ditched the gsync module, dont be. There is no point in having gsync with this high of a refresh rate. I can pick out screen tearing on a 165hz screen when playing uncapped. I cannot do that with 240-360hz. Just play uncapped if you are buying this monitor.
And lastly, and most importantly, the price. $319 for black friday. That is insane for a 360hz monitor that performs this well.
Side note for those who are used to 1440p. Its not the pixel density (less than 20 ppi) thats really the issue here, its the screen size. If you are used to a 27″ screen and have never played on 24-25″ then you may not like it. But this monitor is solely for competitive use. Its not a jack of all trades 1440p 240hz monitor. It is for sweaty @** FPS players who want to do just that, Sweat… and Win.
* This monitor is using a different auoptronics panel than the previous aw2521hf and aw2521h models.

Great 1080p 360hz but...
For reference I’m using a 5800x with 3080 12gb. It’s a great 1080p monitor but it just wasn’t for me. I was coming from Dell’s S2721DGF(1440p@165hz) and I wanted to go up in refresh rate but I guess after using 1440p for so long, it just wasn’t cutting it for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was perfect for competitive titles that can put high frames such as overwatch and rocket league but when it came to a more demanding but still somewhat competitive title like Call of Duty (MW2) it just looked blurry in comparison and wasn’t even pushing high frames, which is expected. I’m still giving it 5 stars for that reason, it’s an amazing 360hz monitor. Smooth for rocket league and over watch 2. They definitely removed features to make it more affordable but you don’t NEED Nvidia’s reflex analyzer or a stand with RGB, especially if you plan on using a monitor mount.. Just one other thing, if you use this on PC, make sure to download alienware command center. There you can tune the Alien FX, the cross hair was nice to have but only after switching it from the default “crosshair large”.

The Alienware AW2523HF pairs nicely w/ my Alienware M18 Ryzen/Radeon laptop!
I read some reviews and looked at the RTINGS rating. Somehow this has a lower rating than my Dell S3220DGF. I’m not sure how, but let’s see;
It’s close to, or right at 400nits. The response time is fast enough I don’t see any ghosting or trailing of pixels. The color profile matches perfectly to the laptops! I only need the Alienware Control Center to adjust the brightness, etc. It’s been great for gaming and watching movies.
The only negatives I’ve seen so far, is that sometimes when turning the screen brightness down in the AWCC software, it sometimes turned the backlight off entirely. This needs fixed.

...
The monitor itself worked as intended… until it didn’t. After less than a month of use it suddenly stopped working (as if it got hit by something, screen went all crazy on me) it was probably handled a bit too rough by delivery.
I was watching a YT video on my second monitor at the time, so at first I thought my GPU might’ve been the problem… not the case.
Other than that, the monitor was good. I’d recommend it and hope you don’t end up having the same issue I did.
If you’re ordering this from outside the U.S I’d suggest going for another option. The return delivery was almost half the price of the monitor, so I’d go for something a bit more reliable.

Good Monitor for Gaming
I bought this monitor awhile back and has served me well so far. I bought this monitor since I play competitive games such as Fortnite and MW3. Before this monitor I had a 1440p 165hz panel. I then bought a higher-end pc, requiring me to buy this to push more frames. With that being said, this thing loves pulling watts right out of my wall. Even with the wattage draw, the physical monitor itself doesn’t seem to get very warm. The picture is good for what it is. The color range is alright. But again, the main draw to this monitor is the refresh rate. I found a lazy pixel about a month and a half into owning it, but I only see it when I’m trying to look for it. All in all, this monitor is a good choice for anyone looking into competitive gaming, especially when it goes on sale.

The UNDISPUTED CHAMPION of monitors!
The 2523 is the 2023 version of this model, recently released. Ive owned the earlier version and this is a total upgrade. Faster, smoother, and richer contrast/colors. This model accurately “supersamples” a 4k image down to 1080p thru the new Alienware console mode. This version also features HDR and Alienvision, a whole new set of gaming featurs. This monitor is the UNDISPUTED CHAMPION of monitors, dont walk, run to get it!!!

Worth the price but has a flaw
Picture quality is excellent with the hdr. The flaw is when in hdr mode the screen is pre set and permanently set to full brightness which is fine during the day but if you use it in a dark room at night it can be pretty bright. That’s the only downside for me but I’m gonna buy another one so it’s not that big of a deal.
