Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional 5K Clarity: The 5120×2880 resolution provides incredible sharpness for text and high-resolution media, offering a pixel density that matches premium displays and eliminates the blurriness often found in 4K monitors on macOS.
  • Professional Color Accuracy: The display comes Calman Verified with factory calibration reports, delivering true-to-life colors and high coverage of professional gamuts like DCI-P3 and sRGB, which is highly valued by photographers and video editors.
  • Versatile Connectivity and Hub: It features a robust port selection including USB-C with 96W power delivery for laptop charging, a built-in KVM switch for managing multiple computers, and easily accessible front-facing USB ports.

Cons

  • Hardware Reliability and QC Issues: Multiple reviews highlight serious quality control defects such as dead pixels, screen flickering, and total panel failure with vertical or horizontal lines appearing within a few months of purchase.
  • Substandard Audio and Wake Times: The integrated speakers are described as tinny and poor quality, while the monitor is noted for having an annoyingly slow wake-up time when exiting power-save mode or starting up.
  • Panel Uniformity and Coating Issues: Users reported noticeable backlight bleed on dark backgrounds, vignetting at the edges, and a matte 'LuxPixel' coating that some found to be too intense, creating a grainy or rainbow-like effect on the screen.

Monitor is absolutely insane. Used this for a Mac Mini instead of Apple’s overpriced garbage and it has been a wonderful experience and the colors are unmatched. Just wish it was 90-144hz

  3. Monitor Defective, Customer Success is Awful

Monitor broke after two months – pixels died out – I sent the monitor in for repair and it took them THREE months to fix it only to then have them send the monitor to the wrong address.

This has been the worst customer service I’ve ever had – during the repair, they told me they needed a part and that they’d contact me in 3 days.

A month went by without any contact, so I called them and they told me – again – that they’d be in contact in 3 days.

Two weeks later no response until I contacted their “CEO Feedback” only for them to tell me they’re waiting on the part and “they’d be in contact soon.”

All of this drama just to have them then ship the monitor to the wrong address.

These monitors break easy and ASUS’s customer success is such that I will never be buying another product from them.

  4. Unreliable and a waste of money!

Purchased the monitor in March 2025 and by August 2025 it was constantly going black while in use and not turning back on. Looks to be completely unreliable and a complete waste of money. Do not recommend!

  5. Warranty doesn't cover full repair costs from factory defects

Monitor was great for 4 months. Then, big green vertical line across the screen and another one going horizontally across the screen. Covered under the warranty, but now I’m out another $90 having to ship it back to ASUS.

So… take that for what it is. Great monitor, not a great post-purchase experience.

  6. KVM – not worth it

    Review source: Bestbuy

Avoid purchasing this monitor if you need a built-in KVM, especially for use with Apple devices. While the Apple Studio Display lacks a KVM—which might make this monitor seem like a tempting alternative—the KVM functionality here is unreliable for daily use with Macs. MacBooks connected via USB-C are often not detected when plugged in, and a Mac connected permanently via HDMI does not wake from sleep via keyboard or mouse. There has been no meaningful support response to fix these issues.

  7. Questioning if I needed this or not.

Overall it works fine and the build quality is good but even at 15% brightness it’s still much harder on my eyes then the old Dell monitor giving me headaches even with blue blocker glasses. It also takes 3 to 4-times as long to wake back up as the previous monitor. If I had it to do over…I’m not sure I would. Very expensive for as little as I need a 5K monitor.

  9. Died after 4 months. Has been sitting at ASUS repair for six weeks.

I got a lemon. It died after just a few months. I do think ASUS is going to hnor the warranty, but it’s been sitting “Waiting for parts” in their repair facility for six weeks. I had to use their customer service to escalate the case. I’m hoping they will just refund it at this point. I already had to buy another monitor (went back to the studio display). One does not simply go 6+ weeks without a monitor.

  10. I returned it but absolutely loved it

This monitor works great on a mac, paired with 4k monitors. There were no issues, the scaling across screens worked nice.

My dev environment is linux however, and I debated keeping this and buying a second 5k monitor. But in the end, since I am mostly on linux, i decided $1600 plus tax ~$1800 was too much. I got a second 4k monitor, totaling $500 for both monitors.

If you have a mac, 100% buy this monitor and it works fine paired with a 4k. If my budget increases, I will be back. Two 4k monitors are great, two 5k monitors are noticeably better but just by a bit.
