Customer Reviews Summary

The Brother HL-L3300CDW is frequently praised by users for its exceptional print quality and reliability, establishing it as a strong contender for both home office and small business environments. Many customers highlight the vibrant colors and sharp, crisp text, which make it suitable for a wide range of printing tasks, from professional documents to colorful school projects. Users appreciate the fast printing speeds and the convenience of wireless connectivity, which allows for easy printing from multiple devices, including smartphones and tablets. The setup process is often described as straightforward, with many users getting the printer up and running in minutes.

Beyond its core printing capabilities, the HL-L3300CDW is also valued for its robust build and quiet operation. Long-time Brother customers often express their loyalty to the brand, citing the durability and longevity of their previous models as a key reason for choosing this printer. The transition from inkjet to laser is a common theme among reviewers, who are tired of dealing with dried-out ink cartridges and clogged print heads. The cost-effectiveness of toner over ink is another frequently mentioned advantage, with many users confident that they will save money in the long run despite the higher upfront cost.

However, it’s not all perfect praise, and potential buyers should be aware of a few consistent criticisms. A recurring complaint revolves around the cost of replacement toner cartridges, which some find to be nearly as expensive as the printer itself. The lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF) is a significant drawback for users who need to scan or copy multi-page documents, as the flatbed scanner only accommodates one page at a time. Some users also report issues with the printer’s software, particularly when it comes to double-sided printing and connectivity with macOS devices.

✅ What Are the Advantages of This Product?

  • Excellent Print Quality: Users consistently praise the printer for its ability to produce high-quality prints with sharp text and vibrant colors. Many reviewers note that the colors are true to the screen, making it ideal for printing everything from professional documents to colorful flyers. One user even mentioned, “The print is clear and sharp and the colors look fairly close to the screen shots.”
  • Reliable and Durable: Many users have been loyal to the Brother brand for years, citing the reliability and durability of their printers. The HL-L3300CDW is often described as a “workhorse” that consistently performs without issues. One long-time user shared, “I have been using different models of Brother laser printer since 2006…My first mono laser printer is still working. Nice quality.”
  • Easy Setup and Wireless Connectivity: The setup process is frequently highlighted as being quick and straightforward, with many users able to connect the printer to their Wi-Fi network and devices in a matter of minutes. The ability to print wirelessly from computers, smartphones, and tablets is a significant convenience for many. A satisfied customer stated, “This Brother printer is the easiest setup we have ever had. It ‘automatically’ found and connected to our wifi network with nothing for us to do but wait.”

❌ What Are the Disadvantages of This Product?

  • High Cost of Toner: A significant number of users express frustration over the high price of replacement toner cartridges, with some stating that a full set of cartridges can cost almost as much as the printer itself. This has led some users to feel that the printer is less economical than they had hoped. One user lamented, “The whole printer is $330. Unless there is a steep drop in toner prices, this printer will sit without toner once it runs out.”
  • No Automatic Document Feeder (ADF): The absence of an automatic document feeder is a major drawback for users who frequently need to scan or copy multiple pages. The flatbed scanner requires each page to be placed manually, which can be a time-consuming process. A disappointed user commented, “Good luck finding ink for this and if you like scanning large documents one at a time then maybe this is for you.”
  • Software and Connectivity Issues: Some users have reported encountering frustrating software-related problems, particularly with double-sided printing, where the back side of the page prints upside down, leading to wasted paper and time. There are also mentions of unstable connectivity, especially for those using macOS devices, which can disrupt workflow. One user shared their frustration, saying, “The printer does not work well with MacOS. To print, I have to turn-off the printer and restart.”

⚖️ How Does This Product Compare to Other Options?

Many users who switched from other printer brands, particularly HP and Epson, expressed greater satisfaction with the Brother HL-L3300CDW. A common sentiment is that Brother printers are more reliable and have fewer software and connectivity issues. One user who switched from an HP printer stated, “I am so impressed with this printer with its ease of operation and how quiet it runs. After owning HP lasers all my adult life, all I did was battle mechanical and software issues for the past 15 years with my old HP. So glad I switched to this Brother model.” The primary trade-off mentioned is that while the initial cost and toner for the Brother printer may be higher, the reliability and lack of frustration make it a worthwhile investment for many.

🎯 Is This Product Right for You?

The Brother HL-L3300CDW is an ideal choice for home office users, small business owners, and families who need a reliable color printer for a variety of tasks. Its high-quality output makes it perfect for creating professional documents, marketing materials, and school projects. Those who are tired of the frustrations of inkjet printers, such as dried-out cartridges and frequent maintenance, will appreciate the consistency of this laser printer. However, you should look for a different model if you frequently need to scan or copy multi-page documents, as the lack of an automatic document feeder will likely be a deal-breaker. Additionally, if you are on a tight budget, the high cost of replacement toner cartridges is an important factor to consider.

⚠️ What Are the Most Common Problems?

The most frequently reported issues with the Brother HL-L3300CDW include problems with double-sided printing, where the second side prints upside down, and difficulties with Wi-Fi connectivity, especially after changing network settings. Some users have also experienced issues with the printer not recognizing new toner cartridges, leading to a “replace toner” error message even with a full cartridge. The lack of an automatic document feeder is another common complaint, as it makes scanning multi-page documents a tedious process.

🔧 How to Fix Common Issues?

For the double-sided printing issue, some users have found a solution by downloading and installing the official driver from the Brother website. This often resolves the problem of pages printing upside down. When it comes to Wi-Fi connectivity issues, ensuring that the printer’s firmware is up to date can often help. If you’re still having trouble, a factory reset of the printer’s network settings may be necessary. For toner cartridge recognition problems, it’s recommended to ensure you are using genuine Brother toner cartridges, as some users have reported that the printer does not work with off-brand options.

💡 How Can You Get the Best Experience with This Product?

To get the best performance from your Brother HL-L3300CDW, users recommend taking the time to properly install the official drivers from the Brother website, as this can prevent common issues like the double-sided printing problem. For the best color quality, it’s advised to adjust the printer settings to match the type of paper you are using. If you plan on printing a large volume, exploring Brother’s toner subscription service might be a more cost-effective option than purchasing individual cartridges. Finally, for those who find the printer’s LCD screen too bright in a dark room, a simple solution offered by one user is to cover it with a small, opaque object.

🏗️ How Durable Is This Product?

User reviews consistently point to the durability and solid build quality of the Brother HL-L3300CDW as a key strength. Many long-time Brother customers have shared stories of their previous printers lasting for over a decade with minimal issues, and they expect the same longevity from this model. The printer is often described as a “workhorse” that can handle a high volume of printing without any decline in performance. One user noted, “The HL5240 from 2007 survived 4 moves and still prints orginal factory quality documents. Hoping this unit holds up as well.”

☎️ Customer Support & Warranty

While most users have not needed to contact customer support, those who have generally report a positive experience. Brother’s support team is often described as responsive and helpful in resolving issues. One user who had a firmware problem said, “Customer service were very responsive, patient and made sure everything was working. Only had to contact them once for the problem was resolved.” However, a few users have expressed frustration with the support process, finding it difficult to get the help they need.

⏳ What Do Long-Term Users Say?

Long-term users of the Brother HL-L3300CDW generally reaffirm its reliability and consistent performance over time. Many who have owned the printer for several months or even years continue to be impressed with its print quality and durability. The cost of toner remains a concern for some, but most feel that the printer’s dependability outweighs this drawback. A user who has had the printer for over a year commented, “Look, this is a great printer, had it for a year.” This indicates that the printer continues to perform well even after extended use.

🤔 Is This Product Worth It?

For the majority of users, the Brother HL-L3300CDW is absolutely worth the investment. Its combination of excellent print quality, reliability, and ease of use makes it a top choice for home offices and small businesses. While the initial cost and the price of toner are higher than some alternatives, the long-term value is evident in its durable construction and consistent performance. If you prioritize reliability and are ready to leave the common frustrations of inkjet printers behind, user experiences suggest the HL-L3300CDW is a solid investment that you’re unlikely to regret.

Buy toner

This is the first time I have left a review…ever. I have a older brother color lazer printer that up until recently has been bullet proof, but after 12 years of service it needs work, so I decided to purchase a new printer, Brother of course based on my previous experience and the fact that I have always recommended there product to others. This printer arrived quickly and without any damage, set up was effortless, and the brother app is easy to use. After setup I was ready to start printing, 1200 envelopes each with 2 words on them, a total of 14 letters per envelope. The printer was working flawlessly just as I expected, about 1000 envelopes in I got the low toner message, no problem I used to get this on my previous one also based on page count, just reset it and go…..not any more. Brother has disabled the ability to reset the toner, this was confirmed after spending some time on the phone with Dave from Brother tech support. So according to Dave I used a entire toner cartridge printing 2000 words, or the equivalent of 5 sheets of paper, and I would need to purchase another toner cartridge to continue printing. Throwing away a toner cartridge full of toner seems like it would be detrimental to the environment, but I am certain Brother has looked in to this. Dave could not explain why my printer from 2012 had the technology to be reset but somehow has regressed in 2024. Greed Dave, the answer is greed, with the cost of toner almost equal to what I spent on the printer to begin with it is obvious where Brother’s focus is. So if you decide to buy this printer and want to get your money’s worth make sure you combine your documents to fill a page, paper must not be a big seller.

Good but not as great as my 15 year old Brother B&W laser printer

Overall I love Brother printers much more than other models (I’ve used many at work). We had a Brother black and white laser printer at home that we bought 15 years ago, and still going strong, just replaced toner once every 18 months or so and drum about every 5-7 years. However we wanted color so we gave the B&W to our college student daughter and took the plunge on this color printer.

The good: it prints great, it’s fast, quality-wise it is every bit the equal of our old B&W. Colors look very good. On these strengths alone I’d probably have given it 5 stars.

The bad: This thing has a disturbing habit of waking up randomly in the middle of the night and running some kind of test, I don’t know what it’s doing, it makes a huge racket and the LCD screen blasts white light illuminating the entire room. We keep it in our bedroom because that’s where my office PC is. This is so unnerving. I can’t find a single setting to turn off these diagnostics or even turn off the lcd light. It is very annoying. I put a thick plastic credit card over the LCD so at least the light doesn’t wake me anymore. If you have this is an office building or a separate room of your house, obviously this won’t be a problem for you.

It also appears this has some sort of check where if it determines the toner is low, it WILL NOT DO ANYTHING until you replace it. With our older B&W Brother printer, it would tell us when it was low, but it would still print or copy if we wanted to. Kind of annoying, and you can’t be sure you’re really getting the full 100% use of whatever toner was in the cartridge.

So, all in all it’s a decent printer, but I’m disappointed in the lower overall customer experience with this newer model than our older model.

Second printer for the home after great experience with first

We needed a second computer at the house. Our first one is a Brothers 3290 that has been a workhorse since 2019. When we realized another was needed, I didn’t hesitate to return to Brothers. I got this one because it’s so similar to the 3290. It was VERY well packed and once we removed about 20 pieces of tape holding everything in place, it printed our test page and looked great. Brothers aren’t cheap and the ink isn’t cheap, but if you need a reliable printer, there’s no option. t delivers professional-quality color prints with crisp details and vibrant colors every time. What stands out most is how incredibly user-friendly it is. Setting it up was a breeze – the wireless connectivity is seamless, and it integrates effortlessly with all my devices, whether I’m printing from my computer, tablet, or even my phone.

One of the best features is the speed. I can print large files without any lag, making it perfect for those high-demand tasks when I’m under a deadline. Plus, it’s impressively quiet, which is ideal for my work environment. The color accuracy is fantastic, and I’ve been able to produce great-looking presentations, brochures, and photo prints that look professionally done.

Another major plus is its efficient ink usage. The toner cartridges last a long time, and replacing them is easy and mess-free. Overall, the HL-L3300CDW is well worth the investment for anyone needing a reliable, high-quality printer. Brother has nailed it with this model, combining versatility, speed, and cost-effectiveness in one machine. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a robust printer that consistently performs at a high level!

NO CONTINUE MODE!

Never would have purchased this had I known they removed the “Continue Mode” on this particular model. This is blatant greed and terrible for the environment. I know the printer toner still has ink because the last page printed was perfectly fine; however, I cannot bypass the error message (“toner needs to be replaced”) and print. As the user, I should be the one to decide when the quality is impacted enough for me to warrant new toner, not the machine. I will never purchase a Brother machine again.

Refill toner can be expensive

This comes well padded and protected in a large box.
Upon unpacking there is the printer, a power cord, and a plastic bag with the quick start guide, warranty card, and subscription toner offer.

If you use the quick start guide, setting up the printer is easy. It involves removing tape and protective plastic pieces from various parts of the printer, removing some plastic clips from the toner cartridges, and removing a drying gel bag from the paper tray.

Once you do that you can power it on and set up your Wi-Fi connection or use a USB direct connection to a computer. (mine didn’t have a USB cable included in the box)

I chose the Wi-Fi route and it will ask you for your Wi-Fi SSD and password. Mine discovered my Wi-Fi router and once I picked that and entered the password it connected fine.
Note that entering the password is a pain because you can only use the up/down buttons to cycle thru all the letter choices. Holding down the button for a second makes it go thru the letters faster, but it was still painful to enter letters like x, or w.

Once you connect to Wi-Fi you can install the app on your devices. There is a sticker with a web page and a QR code on the front of the printer. My wife scanned the QR code and installed the app and was able to quickly get to where she could print things from her Android phone.

I went to the website and downloaded the app on my Windows computer. The app will install and give you the option to check for printer software/firmware updates. For that you need the password printed on the back of the printer. You can skip updating firmware and still print.
Once the drivers install you will have a printer monitor window which shows you toner levels. You can close that window if you don’t want it on your desktop all the time.
Printing from Windows was as simple as bringing up a Print screen in any app and selecting the printer.

While printing, the printer is pretty quiet. I didn’t notice any toner or ozone smell like you would get with some older laser printers.
The printer does have a scanner on top, but I haven’t tried the scanner feature yet.
There is also a fold down tray on the front of the printer where you can manually feed things like envelopes or odd sized paper.
Since this is a color printer, my wife tried printing a photo she had on her phone. It came out surprisingly good on plain paper.

I’m just using this at home for occasional printing, so the subscription service probably won’t save me anything. There are 3 tiers to the service, the low one is for 75 pages/month and is $9.99/month. The highest one is 500 pages/month and is $34.99/month.

If you don’t use the subscription service, the toner cartridges are around $70 each on Amazon.
The black cartridge says it can do 3,000 pages and the color cartridges are 1,500 each.
Replacing all the cartridges will cost around $280 + tax if you don’t use the subscription service.
Since the printer with the initial cartridges is $370, you are basically paying $90 for the printer.

The supplied paper tray supports 8.5 x 11 paper. There is only one paper tray and it claims it will hold 250 sheets of paper. Refilling the paper is just sliding out the tray, and putting the paper in. They have a mark for the maximum paper level you can fill to.

The description says it can do duplex (double sided) printing. I haven’t tried that feature yet.

Overall this is a nice home or small office color laser printer. You don’t have to mess with a bunch of small ink cartridges or worry about ink drying out. It is quiet and fast with great print quality.
The down side is the toner is expensive, but you can print a lot of pages with each cartridge.

No more flickering lights when turning on my laser printer

I’m a crafter and often need printed supplies for my crafts. I have several printers but they are all inkjet, my previous laser printer was a monster that cause my lights to flicker so I avoided using it often for fear I would cause a fire. Years later, I had someone working on the outlet where I had that printer plugged in and the wires were starting to burn, the electrician told me it was likely the printer. Because of this, I was really scared to get another laser printer. I know electronics have come a long way and are more energy efficient so I decided to take the plunge.

The first thing I noticed when I turned this printer on was NO FLICKERING OF LIGHTS!

Not only am I a crafter but I also like to set up a tent at local craft fairs to sell my homemade items so having good quality printed material is essential. Given that the toner for this is extraordinarily pricey, I will limit my use for items that will return a profit and keep using my large format inkjet printers for daily needs.

I have this printer connected via wifi so the only cable attached to it is the power cord.

Setup and installation was super easy but I’m also a bit on the techie side so it may not be so simple for some.

Warmup from complete shut down takes a bit but speeds up once it’s warmed up.

The copies I made using the flatbed scanner were off. The colors were lacking in red tones but they were the opposite when I printed. The printed images had a darker red tone but I also know that all monitors are different and may show you something completely different than what your printer will spit out. I’ve worked with digital graphics long enough to know how to correct the colors using my graphics application so it’s not an issue for me.

The manual bypass only allows one sheet at a time. I use it to print on cardstock, I haven’t used it to print on envelopes as I can’t remember the last time I mailed an actual letter.

The print quality for graphics images (not photographs) is very good. I only print informational material and high color graphics so I don’t know how well it will print photographs, I presume not as good as an inkjet would. I have not met a laser printer that can print photo quality prints.

All in all, it’s a very nice and reliable printer that will certainly do well in any home. It has a decent footprint so you don’t require TOO much extra space. It’s not too heavy, and it does a good job.

The reasons for not giving it 5 stars are:

The limitations of the bypass.
The copies produced using the scanner are way off. At least printing from your computer, you have the option to adjust the saturation and color balance. The phone app might have this option for making copies and if I find it and it works, I will update my review.

I don’t think you can go wrong with this purchase, it’s a very good printer!

Double sided printing is upside down!

I waited to do a review as I wanted to use the printer for awhile. I love everything about it EXCEPT the double sided pages print upside down no matter if I choose short or long sided print. I tried to contact Brother and the site does not recognize this model number, so I can’t do a chat or an email. I’ll have to leave work early to call and find out why. At this point, I’d like to return it, but alas, I waited too long. Very frustrating as I never had this issue before.

Worst printer ever!

This printer does not have an option to turn off the ink reader. Therefore it forces you to change the ink cartridge before it is empty. There is no way to bypass this setting. It also does not allow you to use off-brand ink, even if the ink states that it is compatible with this printer. I am forced to spend close to $300 on ink.

Unnecessary print stoppage when one toner cartridge becomes “low”

Brother continues their obnoxious practice of forcing ALL printing to cease (including grayscale) when one of the “starter” toner cartridges is “low” after printing approximately 15 pages. Another midnight run to FedEx office while my brand new $400 printer sits idle due to the price gouging practices of Brother. Buyer beware.

Could be better

Good:
-Fast printing.
-Good quality.
-Easy to use app.
-ID copy feature.

Bad:
-Printer does not include an automatic document feed tray.
-Firmware update could be better.
-Inconsistent closure of printer scanning bed.
-Printer is taller than expected.

I ordered the Brother HL-L3300CDW Wireless Digital Color Multi-Function Printer. We like the printing speed, quality output and user friendly app. The control panel is simplistic and easy to navigate. We like the various features including ID scanning. The setup process is straightforward, but the firmware update did not confirm a successful completion. Scanning from the printer offers 600 dpi, but scanning through the app is limited to 300 dpi. We like the app, but it requires access to all photos and we would prefer limitations. Overall, the printer impresses with its performance, intuitive controls and features, but the firmware needs an update.
