Users generally appreciate the Brother MFC-L3720CDW for its print quality, reliability, and ease of setup, but some report issues with paper curling and slow printing speed. While many customers highlight its wireless connectivity and toner efficiency, others have faced driver installation challenges and scanning limitations.

Customer Reviews Summary

The Brother MFC-L3720CDW has received mixed reviews, with many users praising its high-quality prints, reliable performance, and wireless connectivity. Customers who switched from inkjet printers particularly appreciate the cost-effectiveness of laser printing and the long-lasting toner. Many have successfully used the printer for home offices, small businesses, and even church bulletins, noting its consistent print output and ease of use.

However, some users mention paper curling issues, which can make handling documents inconvenient. Print speed is another common concern, with several customers stating that the printer takes longer than expected to process and print documents. A few customers have also encountered setup difficulties, particularly with drivers and Wi-Fi connectivity. Some users also note that scanning multiple pages into a single file requires additional software configuration, which can be an inconvenience.

Despite these concerns, the MFC-L3720CDW is generally well-received by users who need a reliable, multi-functional printer with wireless printing, scanning, and copying capabilities. Those who prioritize durability and cost savings over speed tend to be the most satisfied with this model.

✅ What Are the Advantages of This Product?

  • High-Quality Prints: Users praise the printer for its sharp and clear print quality, especially for text documents and simple color prints. Many reviews highlight that printed pages appear crisp and professional, making it a great choice for office use. The color accuracy is particularly appreciated for charts and presentations.
  • Reliable Wireless Connectivity: The Wi-Fi and mobile printing features work well for most users. Several customers mention that they can print seamlessly from their phones, tablets, and laptops without any issues. The Brother mobile app integration is also highlighted as a useful feature for quick printing on the go.
  • Long-Lasting Toner: Many users appreciate the cost-efficiency of laser printing, as the toner lasts significantly longer than ink cartridges. This makes it a cost-effective choice for those who print frequently. Some users report that generic toner replacements work well, further reducing long-term expenses.
  • Versatile Functionality: This printer is capable of duplex printing, scanning, and copying, making it a convenient all-in-one solution for various office needs.

❌ What Are the Disadvantages of This Product?

  • Paper Curling Issues: Multiple users report that printed pages tend to curl, making them harder to stack and store neatly. Some have found workarounds by adjusting the output tray settings. Users printing large batches have experienced the most difficulty.
  • Slow Printing Speed: Some customers find that the printer takes longer than expected to start printing, especially when handling large documents or complex graphics. While text documents print relatively quickly, color printing can be noticeably slower.
  • Setup Can Be Challenging: While many users find the setup process smooth, others mention issues with driver installation, Wi-Fi connectivity, and initial configuration. Some customers also find the touchscreen interface less intuitive than expected, requiring additional time to get used to the controls.
  • Lack of Ethernet Port: A few users expected an Ethernet port for wired connectivity, only to realize that this model only supports Wi-Fi connections, which may not be ideal for all office setups.

🔄 How Has This Product Improved?

Compared to previous Brother models, the MFC-L3720CDW features better connectivity options and a more compact design. Users who previously owned older Brother laser printers mention that this model is quieter, faster in processing, and easier to use with mobile devices. The updated mobile app support has also been a highlighted improvement for many users.

⚖️ How Does This Product Compare to Other Options?

Many users compare the MFC-L3720CDW to HP and Canon laser printers, noting that Brother printers tend to last longer and have fewer software restrictions. While HP printers often feature sleeker software interfaces, Brother devices are praised for being more cost-effective in terms of toner usage. Additionally, some users note that Brother’s support for generic toner refills makes it a better long-term investment compared to competitors.

🎯 Is This Product Right for You?

This printer is ideal for home office users, small businesses, and anyone needing reliable black-and-white and color prints. If you prioritize print quality and cost efficiency over speed, the MFC-L3720CDW is a great choice. However, if fast printing speeds or a wired Ethernet connection are essential, other models might be better suited to your needs.

⚠️ What Are the Most Common Problems?

  • Paper Curling: Some users report that printed pages come out curled, which can be inconvenient for stacking and binding.
  • Driver and Software Issues: Several customers mention challenges with installing drivers or setting up wireless printing.
  • Print Speed: The printer is not the fastest in its category, making it less ideal for high-volume printing needs.
  • Connectivity Dropouts: A few users report occasional disconnections from Wi-Fi, requiring a manual restart of the printer.

🔧 How to Fix Common Issues?

  • Reduce Paper Curling: Users suggest adjusting the paper type settings and using the rear output tray to minimize curling.
  • Improve Wireless Setup: If experiencing Wi-Fi issues, try resetting the network settings and ensuring the firmware is updated.
  • Optimize Print Speed: To reduce delays, adjust print quality settings and use a direct USB connection when printing large documents.
  • Use High-Quality Paper: Users report that using premium-grade paper reduces curling and enhances print clarity.

💡 How Can You Get the Best Experience with This Product?

  • Regular Maintenance: Cleaning the printer periodically can help maintain print quality and prevent paper jams.
  • Keep Firmware Updated: Regular firmware updates ensure better performance and security.
  • Configure Scan Settings: Adjusting scan settings can improve speed and usability, especially for those scanning frequently.

☎️ Customer Support & Warranty

Several users mention mixed experiences with Brother’s customer support. While some received quick replacements or troubleshooting help, others found the response time slow. The one-year limited warranty covers most hardware issues, but some users recommend extended warranties for added peace of mind.

🤔 Is This Product Worth It?

Overall, the Brother MFC-L3720CDW is a solid choice for home offices and small businesses. While it has some drawbacks like print speed and paper curling, its print quality, wireless connectivity, and toner efficiency make it a worthwhile investment for most users.

Unbelievably good

Normally I don’t write reviews, but I bought the Brother MFCL3720 printer and my experience has been great. We have a multi-OS home office setup. My wife uses Windows, I have a Linux desktop and Linux laptop, we have Android phones and when my son or daughter visit they have iPhones and Macs. We have tested the apple products yet, but I needed something that would work well with all of these.

Delivery: exactly on time, delivered right to our front door, the box was clean and free of “crunches” or any evidence of mishandling.

Unboxing: lots of good packing and shock-absorption in the box, the printer is a bit heavy for one person to lift, although the delivery woman managed it. We got it unpacked and just followed the 7/8 step “quick setup” sheet. We removed internal tape and packing material, re-installed the toner cartridges, put some paper in and plugged it in.

Setup: super simple, the automatic connection to the network didn’t work for me (perhaps due to my eero wifi router) but manually selecting the network ssid and entering the password was easy and well-explained in the setup sheet. Once that was done it connected right away to the network.

Windows: relatively easy, used the “add printer” capability accessed through the control panel; it took a while to download the driver and go through setup, but once completed it connected right away and printed no problem.

Android: scanned the QR code from the printer LCD screen and downloaded the Brother mobile connect app from the Play Store. This went fine. I tried opening a photo within Google Photos and print. I did have to select the Brother printer but it produced a nice large color photo.

Linux (laptop and desktop): this worked astonishingly well, either because of the capability of Linux, or of the Brother printer support, or both. I opened the Settings..Printers menu and the printer was already there! I didn’t have to install anything, it just found or downloaded the appropriate driver and worked to print immediately. Very impressive.

Features: duplex (two sided) printing worked immediately as an option in the “print” dialog of applications. I have scanned a few pages using the very useful “VueScan” utility available from Hamrick and again it just immediately worked flawlessly, no fussing.

The entire setup and testing took 25-30 minutes. Based on the first day of ownership at least, I give it my highest recommendation and look forward to years of use.

Don’t Buy this printer you cannot Reset Toner Life.

Brother printers count toner by pages not by measuring toner. You can print all black and white and have your 3 almost full color cartridges show empty. Unlike most other printers Brother doesn’t let you reset toner life and the machine won’t print until you replace the very expensive still full cartridges with new cartridges. Brother is stealing a lot of the customers money! Anyone who buys a Brother Printer that doesn’t let you reset Toner life is an idiot after reading this. Call their tech support and ask. Any Printer where the physical back button and X button was removed has lost the ability to reset Toner life

WAY OVERRATED!!!

This 3720 is my replacement for a well-used HP. It’s ok, but there are 4 negatives that I wish I’d known:

1. The TN-229 XX cartridge will not work with it. They don’t tell you that. Wish I’.d known before I spent all that money.

2. The paper comes out sort of wavy. I guessing the heat causes that.

3. If you need to print over 125 sheets it will push out the overage on to the floor or desk.

4. And worst…this printer uses WAY, WAY too much ink!!! I’m having to replace a black cartridge about every 4-6 weeks!!! About twice what I had to do with my previous printer. And as I mentioned in my first point, the XX cartridge won’t work with this!!!

UPDATE!

I’ve changed my mind. What a piece of junk!!! I don’t think I have ever hated an inanimate object as much as I hate this thing. Aside from what I mentioned previously, I have to reboot it at least once a week, sometimes more. It invariably stops printing because it requires some sort of action like cleaning the drums (which I’ve sometimes had to do 4-5 times a day even though I use Brother toner). It can’t decide if it wants to connect with my wifi or not. Oh, and did I mention before how much toner it uses!?!?!?! Ridiculous!!!

Plus, try to connect with someone at Brother for help!!! Good luck!!!

I’m gonna have to bite the bullet on this one and find another printer. This thing is a bad lesson learned!!!

Works great

I have been using the monochrome Brother laser printer and love it. The cost for the color printer is good, so I purchased this color machine. It was easy to set up. It came with all the toner and cartridge installed easily. It’s quieter than my monochrome machine. It printed everything quickly and the quality is really good. I bought laser photo paper and printed some photos. The inkjet printers I feel make a better quality photo, but the prints on this machine are still good and people were happy with them. The only issue is the paper feed when printing 30 bulletins for our church. The paper feed is different than the monochrome and sometimes two pages go through at the same time with half the bulletin on the bottom of one page and half on the top page. Also, because there are 4 hot rollers the paper tends to curl up so I have to keep an eye on the output or the copies fall on the floor. The machine is well worth the cost and I am glad to have purchased it.

Best in mid price range

I tested a lot of machines, including HP machines, many of which are going out of stock, but are still being sold because HP is getting out of a certain line of printer business – buyer beware and look it up if you don’t believe me – and I finally settled on this mid priced monster of a machine, which works perfectly fine despite its really heavy weight. This is a very solid laser printer that is not particularly speedy, but is incredibly solidly built and easy to set up. Its software interface is pretty clunky. It’s software interface is pretty clunky. It must be said and they haven’t spent a lot of time or tech To make it more user attractive, unlike HP, which has very good printer software – but then again they tried to use it by trapping you to use their cartridges, only which is not the case with Brother – And that is where HP got in trouble. The print rate is a bit slow, but again very consistent. On the whole you got the impression this thing is built to last. No problems so far. Time will tell. Other printers are much lighter, including the outgoing HP models which they are winding down, but those were very thin and lightly built – I refer to the ink jet models and their 9000 series Better for college kids than small businesses whereas this is certainly built to last for smaller businesses I would say.

Great product but beware of the PowerENGAGE ADWARE that Brother installs without your permission!

First of all I have been using Brother products for over a decade and I have never seen something like this before from them. When I installed the Full Software Package on the Official Brother downloads center, it installed this PowerEngage adware on my computer. This program is responsible for randomly displaying Brother advertisement pop ups on my desktop. After uninstalling it through the apps in the settings (its not visible in the control panel programs list, the ads stopped. This PowerEngage app is meets the criteria for ADWARE as it displays advertisements for Brother without my knowledge.

Duplex PRINTING only,Prints/Scans single side only

I have given 3 Stars because I read the other reviews which were mostly positive. I cannot respond yonits overall performance because I re-boxed it immediately upon discovery that it will perform duplex scanning; my principal need. The product description, whether intentional or not, is misleading as it describes the duplexing feature and the scanning feature but uses the phrase “duplex printing”; very easily overlooked or misunderstood. Very annoying. It will NOT print or scan from double sided originals. It will scan single sides; then print duplex. The document feeder does NOT have duplex capacity.

Let me use whatever Toner I want

I get that the real money is made selling toner/ink and that you think my warranty is going to get voided if I use non OEM toner but I bought the machine, its mine, let me put whatever I want in it, if it stops working because I bought cheap toner then that’s on me. But preventing from using the printer because I used non OEM shouldn’t be a thing. To prevent me from damaging my product you won’t even let me use it? Fine. Garbage company, I won’t make the mistake of giving them my money ever again, and you shouldn’t either.

This item came out of the box printing lines on all prints from the start???

I work for a religious organization, and we intended to use this printer for funeral cards primarily and some photo exhibits.

I was replacing a Xerox 6000 series we used for 4 1/2 years that began to degrade and we not 100% reliable.

I ordered the printer January 25th and because of the remaining toner in the Xerox we didn’t set it up right away as intended.
I wasn’t worried because the printer was BRAND NEW had an Amazons CHOIC endorsement.

Not sure why because as soon as I set the printer up and began top print test pictures the print jobs came out blurry and had streaks down the middle. We are talking 15 min out of the packaging????
The box doesn’t have any appearance of dents from shipping damage at all. The kicker is I can’t return this lemon because it has been over 30 days, so we are stuck with this “NEW” printer that was BAD from the start. Super frustrating!

Not necessarily wireless

After trying unsuccessfully for quite a while to connect to my wi-fi system I placed a call to technical support. After a bit of digging on the part of the agent, I was told that the problem was being referred to a higher level. I should expect a call back in less than 2 hours. Six hours later I called back and eventually was put with the higher level expertise. Unfortunately the answer was not good. My home wi-fi system is a mesh system to allow the signal to get back to where the printer was to be placed. Turns out that the Brothers printer could not be wireless on a mesh wi-fi system. I needed to run an ethernet cable to the router. Not very wireless.
I returned the printer the next day.
