Customer Reviews Summary

The Canon PIXMA G4270 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer has garnered significant attention for its innovative ink tank system and versatile features. Customers highlight its cost-effectiveness, with many noting substantial savings on ink compared to traditional cartridge-based printers. This printer is ideal for home and small office use, delivering decent print quality for documents and photos alike. Many users appreciate the wireless functionality, which allows seamless printing from smartphones, computers, and other devices. The MegaTank system has been particularly praised for its ability to reduce the frequency and cost of ink refills, making it a standout feature for budget-conscious buyers.

However, not all reviews are glowing. While the majority praise its affordability and multifunctional capabilities, some users express frustration with setup difficulties, flimsy build quality, and the small, non-intuitive LCD screen. Complaints about the lack of automatic duplex printing and occasional performance inconsistencies further highlight areas for improvement. Despite these drawbacks, the Canon PIXMA G4270 has been widely recognized as a solid option for those seeking an economical and functional printer for everyday use, especially given its comprehensive features and eco-friendly design.

PROS

  • Cost-effective ink system: The MegaTank technology enables users to print thousands of pages with a single refill. A user stated, “The ink levels haven’t dropped after printing 50 pages, and refills are very affordable.” This feature significantly reduces operational costs compared to traditional printers, making it an excellent choice for those who print frequently or in high volumes.
  • Wireless printing: The printer supports wireless connectivity, making it easy to print from multiple devices. Customers appreciate its compatibility with modern networks, including WPA3 Wi-Fi. As one reviewer put it, “I can effortlessly print from my phone and computer without needing cables.” This feature enhances convenience for households or offices with multiple users.
  • Versatile functionality: This all-in-one printer supports printing, scanning, copying, and faxing, catering to diverse needs. One review remarked, “It’s a one-stop shop for all my home office tasks.” Its versatility makes it suitable for various tasks, from printing school assignments to professional documents.
  • Eco-friendly design: Users commend the large ink tanks, which reduce plastic waste compared to disposable cartridges. This makes it a more environmentally friendly option, appealing to eco-conscious buyers. Additionally, the efficient ink usage minimizes the frequency of refills, further contributing to sustainability.
  • Photo printing quality: Several reviewers noted excellent photo printing capabilities, describing the prints as vibrant and professional-looking. One user stated, “The colors are vivid, and the clarity is exceptional, making it great for photo enthusiasts.”

CONS

  • Small LCD screen: Many users find the small, one-inch display difficult to read and navigate. A customer commented, “The screen is tiny and awkwardly placed, making it hard to use.” This limitation can make accessing advanced settings or troubleshooting more cumbersome.
  • Build quality: Some customers feel the printer’s lightweight materials make it less durable. One user wrote, “The output tray feels flimsy, and the overall build quality doesn’t inspire confidence.” This perception of fragility may deter buyers who prioritize sturdiness.
  • No automatic duplex printing: The lack of automatic two-sided printing frustrates several users. As one reviewer stated, “In this day and age, a printer without duplex printing is a major inconvenience.” This feature’s absence can be a dealbreaker for those who frequently print large documents.
  • Setup difficulties: Several users report issues with the initial setup, particularly with wireless connectivity. One reviewer noted, “The instructions were not clear, and it took multiple attempts to connect to Wi-Fi.” Despite the app support, some found the process more challenging than expected.
  • Performance inconsistencies: While many find the printer reliable, a few users experienced breakdowns within months. A disappointed customer shared, “It worked fine for two months, but then it started jamming and malfunctioning.” These reports raise concerns about long-term reliability.

Who Should Buy?

The Canon PIXMA G4270 is ideal for individuals and families who prioritize cost-effective printing for both documents and photos. It’s especially suitable for home offices, students, and those who frequently need to print in color. With its wireless capabilities and multifunction features, it’s a great fit for tech-savvy users who value convenience and versatility. Additionally, eco-conscious buyers who appreciate the sustainable design and ink efficiency will find this printer appealing. However, it may not be the best choice for users who require heavy-duty performance, automatic duplex printing, or those who expect a highly durable build for frequent mobility.

Do Users Recommend This Product?

The majority of users recommend the Canon PIXMA G4270 for its affordability and multifunctional features. Its ability to reduce printing costs significantly is a standout feature for most buyers. Customers have also highlighted its reliable wireless printing and vibrant photo quality as major advantages. However, some customers hesitate due to build quality concerns and the lack of certain modern features like automatic duplex printing. If you value cost efficiency, eco-friendliness, and a versatile feature set, and you’re willing to compromise on premium features, this printer is a worthy investment. On balance, it’s a product that delivers great value for money, particularly for home and small office settings.

Can do better with online setup instruction. Way too small display screen.

Just completed install the printer using the online instruction. The printer setup (print head and ink filling) is simple but the online instruction can be more clear with just a few words instead of pictures only. The Wi-Fi connection is easy and mostly automated.

Have not use it much yet. But the print quality and print speed are good for home use. But one glaring weakness is obvious – the display screen (1 inch square) is way too small. Why ruin a good printer with such stingy design ?

It is a so so printer. The interface screen is insultingly small and a complete joke. Pass on this.

I had a Canon Pixma 870 all-in-one inkjet printer for over a decade that I really liked. It finally died.

I wanted a similar replacement for light home and home office printing, the occasional fax and to occasionally copy papers. For my purposes, most color lasers were too expensive (to maintain) and I didn’t want to deal with ink cartridges.

PROS: So I bought this to try ink tank technology. It is easy to fill, the ink is fairly cheap, and I think the ink will last for a long time before I refill it. The printer is fast enough for inkjet technology and the quality is fairly good.

CONS: The build feels super flimsy compared to the old Pixma, especially the print output tray. The only paper tray is external-no internal paper storage. The biggest problem is the interface screen which is only a bit bigger than a stamp. VERY difficult to read and use. It also does not angle upwards. A complete joke. Finally, certain functions do not work for me. For example, it refuses to print an activity report after a fax even after setting it to do so.

I would avoid this printer if I were you.

Disappointing

Pros: fast; decent print quality and I like the tank concept. Cons: 1) SINGLE-SIDED PRINTING!!!! Seriously? In this day and age? My fault, however, as I didn’t notice that in the details. 2) I don’t like that there is no internal paper tray. The rear feeder and lack of automatic print tray defeats the purpose of the compact size. 3) It was an ordeal getting the WI-FI set-up and it is still not working easily/properly between printing from my laptop and then air-printing from my iPhone. 4) It shuts off and won’t wake up unless you physically go turn it back on. This doesn’t work for me as I tend to print out things from my phone as I needed from wherever I am in the house. This design flaw makes it necessary to visit the printer and find a connection every time I want to print. 5) The screen is ridiculously small and awkwardly placed. 6) I had a PIXMA MX922 that I paid $100 for that was heavy-duty so I was disappointed in the lightweight material of this unit at the price point.

All in all, I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to keep it. The cons definitely outweigh the pros. That said, if I can get it to wake up and air-print more easily, I will probably keep it as I do like the speed and print quality.

So far, thrilled with this unit

Really pleased with this printer. It prints great and the mega tanks are going to save me enough to pay for this in a few weeks. My old Canon printer needed ink cartridges every 2-3 months and it costs nearly as muc as the printer originally costs. I’ve had this printer over a month now, and printed probably 40-50 pages and the ink levels haven’t dropped any yet. I estimate I won’t have to add ink but maybe once a year and the replacement bottles are very reasonable.

Does not do duplex printing

Even the most basic printers do duplex printing. This one does not. Why on earth Canon would produce a single sided printer I have no idea but I didn’t pay close enough attention to that detail. Beware and make sure you want single sided printing only.

Good printer.

I’ve only had this printer for about 3 weeks or so but so far so good! a little noisier than my old Canon Pixma but sure prints things faster. No sign of the ink level going down yet.I was little leary because this printer had no reviews already, but so far i am pleased. Well update if any problems show up

The best bang for your buck

This printer is great and the ink method of the bottles is the most affordable, definitely worth it

Updated 2 months later from 5 stars – it’s malfunctioning. Paper jams and print quality sucks!

Junk! Junk! Junk! Why? Well because it was working just fine for two months. Now suddenly it’s a piece of junk! I had a canon for 10 years, and it was perfect. I upgraded to this one oaring the cheaper made material and it started acting up, eating the paper the paper jamming constantly smearing the cartridge, unable to clean the nozzles, unable to realign it was never dropped or abused. It worked fine for two months I bought the four year warranty on it. I didn’t even get past the manufacturers warranty. Amazon took it back. I like Canon but I would never buy another one of their cheap inkjet printers so I say Avoid this one. It’s not the same canon as I had for 10 years running. It’s sad because I was so excited for this printer and I noticed it it’s cheaply made but I ignored it. I just thought it would be fine. Big mistake Buy something else or return it before it’s too late! It’s cheaply made.
All of these positive five stars are seeing are temporary. About the four-year extended warranty and it didn’t even last two months.

very Pleased

When i need ink it will not cost a lot to fill it and that means a lot..
I tried to change the setting at first and had a little difficulty and wish I would have left it alone had to get assistance and it was fixed. Other than that It works fine on the main setting and don’t try to put it on thick paper for it works well where it is.. It is easy to print photos and documents a simple machine that even works with your phone or other devices.. I scan documents from my computer with no problems.. If you want a simple device easy to use but again has features this is it..

Very good printer for home use

Printer works very well but operating instructions are needed in the packaging. It is not intuitive about basic functions. Printing is easy but copying and scanning take more steps. I do love the ink tanks – no more cartridges!
