Summary of Customer Reviews

The Canon PIXMA PRO-200 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer receives overall high praise for its print quality, especially for photos, art prints, and large-format prints. Users highlight its ability to produce vibrant, professional-grade prints with accurate color reproduction and sharpness, comparable to lab-quality prints. Many customers appreciate the printer’s capability to handle various media types, from glossy to matte papers, and card stock. The printer’s setup is frequently described as straightforward, though some users mention a learning curve, particularly when navigating its software and settings. The printer’s size is noted as substantial, but many understand this is necessary to accommodate large prints. However, there are mixed feelings about the ink costs and the longevity of cartridges. Some users encounter issues with paper registration and connectivity, while others find the printer easy to use once they familiarize themselves with its features.

CONS

  • Ink Costs and Usage: The cost of replacement ink cartridges and their consumption are noted as significant concerns. One user commented, “Ink costs are almost equally stunning, lol!” It is also mentioned that certain colors may deplete faster depending on usage.

  • Paper Registration and Software Interface: Several customers find the printer to be picky about paper registration, requiring the user to manually select the correct paper type. This process can be cumbersome, and the small LCD screen can add to the challenge. A reviewer pointed out, “Every time you want to switch from Luster to Glossy, you have to register it on the LCD screen.”

  • Noise During Operation: The printer can be slightly noisy, especially during the warm-up phase. This noise has been described as “slightly noisy but nothing like a heavy metal concert.”

  • Learning Curve for Beginners: Some users struggle with the setup process, particularly when it comes to connecting the printer with various devices and software configurations. An example is a customer who said, “Printer is not intuitive… had trouble setting the type of paper and the printer made terrible noises.”

  • Lack of Touchscreen Interface: The printer’s LCD screen is not a touchscreen, which some users feel is outdated and makes navigation more cumbersome. One review remarked, “I would have preferred a larger screen AND to have it a touch screen.”

  • Durability Concerns: A small portion of users faced issues with the printer failing after a period of use or upon trying to change settings like the router connection. A user complained about needing multiple calls to customer support when encountering errors post-router change.

  • Compatibility Issues: A few users encountered difficulties when integrating the printer with certain software and devices. For example, one user mentioned that the software was not fully compatible with the latest Apple system, resulting in missing paper profiles.

Do Users Recommend the Product?

Yes, the majority of users highly recommend the Canon PIXMA PRO-200, especially for its print quality and versatility in handling various media. Great Quality Printer (and YES..it DOES come with ink.)

First off, the previous reviewers stating it does not come with ink are flat out incorrect. Maybe if they didn’t rip the package open like a 8 year old on Christmas they would realize the 8 ink cartridges are on top between 2 pieces of cardboard.(1st thing I noticed when I open the box up, as well as the 8.5×11 sample pack of Luster paper) SMH.

With that out of the way, the printer was also very easy to set up…took me 30 minutes (give or take..and that was taking my time) from unboxing, setup, calibration & printing out pics ..apparently the other negative reviewer has not touched a printer in 20-30 years or so….but it does have paper instructions (in multiple languages) of step by step what to do & if you can’t read, there are animation steps on the display of the printer itself. (if you can’t see…then you probably shouldn’t be buying a printer anyway.)

Third…the Printer is a beast…as in it is massive 25 inches wide so make sure you have adequate space to set it up. (although smaller than previous models) but this does print 13×19 size paper so it will be bigger than your standard cheap walmart models.

It does take a little time for the printer to “warm up” or shake the ink up so if you have not used it in a while so this may happen…it’s perfectly normal. It is slightly noisy when doing so but nothing like a heavy metal concert level noise.

I would have preferred a larger screen AND to have it a touch screen, but that is a nit picky personal preference. (I did much research before investing in this so I already knew about the screen & was ok with it vs my printing needs that took a higher priority)

Printer quality is EXCELLENT. I am a Graphic Artist/Illustrator that does a wide range of art from oil portraits & landscapes to comic book illustrations…and the color is vibrant, & seamless…meaning even under a magnifying glass, I detected no inkjet “dots” from the colors. Better than a Staples or Office Max print out….which after running into problems printing my OWN artwork out, I decided to invest in a large format printer. The Inks seem to be only available (at this time) from Canon directly & I have found 2 other online places that offer them as well. (sadly, as on now not on Amazon) and even a few colors are on backorder. Pretty sure the Pandemic is making that a little harder to mass produce them. This Printer & cartridges (CLI-65) were released in late 2020 so they are relatively new on the market. Each of the 8 inks cost about $13.99 a piece or $105 for all in 1 bundle. It is usually recommended that you buy the inks as you need them as certain colors will be used up quicker than others.

It also comes with a installation CD but you can also download it from the Canon website (also provided in the paperwork) The Canon printing Software, I think is ok, have not used it much (will learn more about it later) but offers many settings..however I prefer at the moment and am able to print using Photoshop’s UI…which is quicker for me. I have noticed to get the best results, you must tell Photoshop print menu (& the Canon Software) which paper yuo are printing on. There is also a setting on the printer itself to auto detect or bypass it. I take the extra step and set the paper style myself as it may or may not recognize other brand papers. So far I have used Canon Luster, Glossy II, Staples Matte, all of which have great results. (and intend to get more styles and brands to test out on the future…especial the metallic papers)

The Printer is also wireless capable (tried & works) Airplay capable for Apple products (haven’t tried yet) Not sure about android but probably could use the wi fi for that as well. It has an ethernet port & a USB B port for direct connect from computer/laptop to printer. Sadly, no standard USB for flash drives, or SD card slots.
(update: Works just fine wirelessly from my Ipad and My Macbook Air)
That is all I can think of at the moment.

Too expensive for the features

I would not purchase it at this price, Rear feed is a god send for all types of [a[ers and forms. This is the first rear paperr feed in years, the ink tanks are too small, cost too much and contain too little ink and need to be replaced too often.

High quality printer that's easy to use

Bought this so I could print high quality pictures and holiday cards.

Set up was simple. Unpack, run a test print, and connect to network.

Canon professional print layout is easy to use. Just load the photos, choose the layout, and tell it what size paper being used. There are a bunch more setting and adjustments available as well.

I’ve only printed a few 8.5×11 and 13×19 photos, but the ink hasn’t gone down significantly.

The quality is impressive for the price to me.

Does not content with a Mac!!

This is my third Canon printer. All the work to learn how to take out of box, add all the cartridges, follow all of the manual to do it all right. Sit half the day with a technical and Amazon’s work …just to find out that Canon will not work with my Mac computer. How am I to find out to get one.? No comment on the article’s but not until you purchase, put it all together sit another day and then have to sent back to Amazon again!!! I have no idea WHAT TO DO. I am not waiting 2 weeks for my money back. I still have no idea WHAT computer or print company what to buy or trust again.

Very nice output

My previous consumer grade photoprinter died a while ago and with all the photo centers closed for Covid, sprung for this printer.

Don’t buy until the ink becomes available.

Outstanding printer just like the previous generation Pixma Pro-100. The print quality is vibrant and of high quality for the price point of this unit. Unfortunately the price was $100 more than the discontinued pixma-100 and they released this printer ahead of the ink. I advise anyone looking to purchase this to do so but wait until after the ink cartridges become available.

This printer is an actual goddess

The first full-color sheet I printed off my Pixma-200 made me cry with happiness. I upgraded for my business and the quality is absolutely amazing and worth the price.

I’ve had my printer for about 6-7 months so far, and have been printing stickers, business/thank you cards, and prints regularly. I’ve only gone through about half of the included ink tanks. If you register your printer with Canon you can also have ink sent to you when the printer detects it’s getting low. Even if they order early, you have some for when you run out rather than scrambling when you need it and don’t have it.

So far I haven’t had to get ahold of tech support so I declined to rate that section, but as far as performance, I can’t recommend this printer enough for professional artists and photographers.

Back Order Cartridges

Just bought the Canon PIXMA PRO-200. Printed one letter size picture as a test, and already the ink is low. Tried buying all new cartridges and everyone lists them as back order. 5 Star: Quality of print is exceptional. No Star: How can run a business with product like this?

AMAZING prints!

I bought this printer specifically for the purpose of wedding DIY projects, particularly my save-the-dates and invitations. I did a TON of research before coming to this printer. Yes, it’s a lot of money…but I saw this printer as an investment when I considered that I could use it for other things such as high quality home decor prints and Christmas gifting. When I bought this, Amazon also had the option of paying in 12 monthly installments, so the price ($50 per month) was personally manageable for me.

The first time I printed on the Pro-200, I was AMAZED at the quality. I printed a borderless 8.5×11 art piece I had created on Procreate, and the clarity/color was just incredible. From there, I mass printed 130 save-the-dates; I think I only had to replace 4 of the ink cartridges during this? That’s pretty awesome given the fact that they were borderless 5x7s, front and back. The ink is very expensive, but given the fact that I could print THAT many with only some cartridge replacements, I’m sold. I also have Canon ink auto replenishment set up for my ink cartridges, which is SO nice so I can just keep working without forgetting to reorder.

I’m not an artist or photographer by any means, and I imagine this is probably the target audience for the Canon Pixma Pro-200. However, I would absolutely recommend this product for anyone wanting a high-quality print every single time for their DIY project. It’s masterful!

Loved the Pro-10, don't like the Pro-200

I bought this a few months ago after having many happy years with the Pro-10, which finally died. I never had an issue with the image on my calibrated monitor being printed faithfully on all kinds of paper. This printer seems to print darker than my screen and with a yellow tint. I just recalibrated my monitors tonight and the have the same problem. Also, my Pro-10 did not require that I interacted with the printed – I could print from Lightroom and it printed fine. This Pro-200 is always complaining about not having the right paper size or type registered with the printer on it’s little screen. What a mess this product is compared to the Pro0-10.
