Pros & Cons
Pros
- Exceptional Portability: The printer is highly valued for its small footprint and lightweight design, allowing it to fit easily into gear bags, briefcases, and even under car seats for travel.
- High Print Quality: Users consistently report that the device produces clear, sharp, and professional-looking documents and photos, often exceeding expectations for a portable inkjet unit.
- Versatile Mobile Printing: The printer supports direct wireless printing from smartphones and tablets via the Canon app and AirPrint, enabling users to print on the go without a traditional network.
Cons
- Unreliable Connectivity: A significant number of reviewers experienced frequent connection drops, difficult WiFi setup, and software that feels outdated or requires constant reconfiguration.
- Expensive Battery Requirement: While marketed as portable, the battery pack necessary for cordless operation is sold separately, which many customers found to be a misleading and costly hidden expense.
- High Ink Consumption: Several users noted that the printer 'eats' ink quickly and that the cartridges are quite small, leading to frequent replacements and higher long-term operating costs.

Great printer
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Tim Smith October 24, 2025Review source: AmazonThis is a magnificent little printer. I owned its predecessor model, the TR150, for several years, and used it extensively when traveling. Wonderful color. Gave it away, as at 85 years I don’t travel so much anymore.
But I missed it, so ordered the 160. It’s a gem, and at less than 200 bucks from Amazon, you just can’t go wrong. Oh by the way, I highly recommend the optional battery pack. Gives reliable power for several hours.

Great compact printer

It’s very easy to set up and already comes with some cartridges for you to use. It does have a removable print head that you have to install and comes with plenty instructions to help you set it up. Once everything Is in you can set up WiFi easy and once that’s done you can print from your devices pretty easy. The print quality is great. Another thing I like about this printer is that the cartridges are not expensive to replace. The printing is great quality.

Good for travel, but not great
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Tara October 20, 2025Review source: AmazonI purposely use this printer as my only printer for three weeks. It was rather a frustrating experience. This printer frequently lost connection with my phone and required restarting. Once restarted, it would sometimes print the next page as only a partial page. I wasted many pieces of paper, trying to get a full print of a packing slip. While this is a compact printer, that would be easy to travel with, it is not good enough to use as a daily printer. It also needed new ink after only 2 1/2 weeks of use. In contrast, my new HP wireless printer has not yet once lost connection with my phone or my laptop after a month.

A Simple Yet Worthwhile Printer
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.DCS October 19, 2025Review source: AmazonThis a simple printer and that is what you’d expect. However, it is quite portable and that makes it very useful for travel needs. It produces a very clear and readable print and does so with quite acceptable speed. I did not find it difficult to install and set up. I will happily recommend this printer for quick and responsive needs.

Disappointed
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Maria Nestle October 19, 2025Review source: AmazonI bought this printer for travel and portability, but it’s been a disappointment. It doesn’t connect easily when on the go, which defeats the whole purpose of being a portable printer. It only works reliably when you’re connected to the same WiFi network all the time. Not ideal for anyone who needs to print while traveling or switching locations.

Does not come with battery
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.KSPhotography October 8, 2025Review source: AmazonIt’s a decent printer for the price. It’s advertised as a portable printer, but it doesn’t not come with a battery. The battery is an additional $100. The portability is the main selling feature of this printer, but the cost of the battery doesn’t make this printer as good of a deal as it seems. Unless you absolutely need a portable printer, you would be better off getting a pixma pro 200s instead of the tr160.

Honestly cool
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Mark October 7, 2025Review source: AmazonI own a massive amount of high end electronic gear of all kinds and this little gem is amongst the coolest. It’s so small, sitting on my desk hidden out of view. It’s black, which I love being the wright and beige stick out like a sore thumb. It’s portable so you know it’ got to be at least somewhat robust. I got the optional lithium battery so technically I could place it anywhere in the house without a wall plug and it’ll be good to go. The 5GHz Wi-Fi is solid as a rock with modern 2025 connection. Setup took 10 minutes max. The print speed is fine, just fine. The print quality is also just fine, honestly. Just like any printer. Got a carrying case for it too, which will make it easy to protect if I ever want to take it outside, which could happen actually, now that I have the option. Big fan of this Canon. Surprised how impressed I am with it. Also an easy price.

Canon TR-160
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Lisa Sharp October 7, 2025Review source: AmazonStarted ONLY crumpling paper inside of itself after second use, I would recommend ANY BROTHER PRINTER over this attempt-to-be-convenient piece of $200 plastic that can’t figure out how to use the ink that’s shoved into it
