🗣 Customers Say

Most users are highly satisfied with the De’Longhi EM450M Espresso Machine, praising its ability to deliver rich espresso, user-friendly controls, and a stylish compact build that fits seamlessly in the kitchen. While a handful mention small issues like cup clearance or plastic parts, the overwhelming consensus is that this machine offers exceptional value and quality for its price point.

Customer Reviews Summary

The De’Longhi EM450M Espresso Machine receives strong praise for bringing the authentic café experience into users’ homes. Most reviewers emphasize the 15-bar Italian pump and thermoblock technology, which consistently produce hot, flavorful espresso with impressive crema. The machine’s compact, stainless steel design is widely admired for its blend of durability, elegance, and minimal counter space usage. Many users comment that the setup is quick, with easy-to-follow instructions, and the intuitive control panel allows even beginners to brew like a pro.

A standout feature is the powerful milk frother, which enables users to create silky steamed milk and thick microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos. The adjustable frother, paired with preset single and double shot buttons, makes it easy to customize drinks. Users also appreciate the removable water tank (large enough for several drinks before refilling) and removable drip tray, which simplify cleaning and accommodate taller cups for iced or specialty drinks.

While the majority report positive experiences, a few users mention design limitations such as limited cup clearance beneath the spout, a plastic tamper that feels less sturdy, and a pressure gauge without numbered markers. Some early users detected a plastic taste from the water reservoir, but most found this issue resolved after thorough cleaning. Occasional reports describe needing to reset the machine or waiting for it to switch modes between steaming and brewing. Despite these minor complaints, most customers feel the EM450M delivers outstanding performance, reliability, and value—especially for its accessible price.

✅ What Are the Advantages of This Product?

  • Consistently Delicious Espresso: Many reviewers highlight that the machine produces rich, hot espresso with a thick crema, thanks to its 15-bar Italian pump and thermoblock technology. “This espresso machine delivers rich, café-quality espresso with a user-friendly interface. The build is solid and stylish, with quick heating and consistent pressure,” shares one Amazon user.
  • Compact and Stylish Design: The EM450M’s stainless steel body is described as both durable and visually appealing. Its compact size is a major plus for users with limited counter space. One Best Buy customer wrote, “The pressure dial, with its subtle steampunk style and metallic finish, adds a nice touch to my kitchen. The removable drip tray is great for accommodating larger cups.”
  • Easy to Use for All Levels: Beginners and experienced users alike find the machine approachable. Setup is straightforward, and the control panel is intuitive. “It was easy to set up and use. Overall I’m super impressed with the quality and ease,” notes an Amazon reviewer. Preset buttons, a large water reservoir, and clear instructions simplify the espresso-making process.
  • Effective Milk Frother for Lattes and Cappuccinos: The included frother consistently earns positive feedback for making creamy microfoam. Users enjoy the ability to create both steamed milk and foam for a variety of drinks. “The steam wand heats up quickly, and the two texture settings are genuinely useful,” writes a Best Buy user.
  • Excellent Value for Price: Many buyers compare the EM450M favorably to more expensive espresso machines, stating it “offers impressive performance and features for the price.” Even those upgrading from higher-end brands express satisfaction with the value they received.

❌ What Are the Disadvantages of This Product?

  • Limited Cup Clearance: Several users report that the space beneath the spout is too short for taller travel mugs or to-go cups. “The only thing I dislike is that the clearance from the bottom to the dispenser is too short for the disposable hot lid cups I use for my coffee,” mentions a Best Buy reviewer. Most adapt by using smaller mugs.
  • Plastic Components Feel Less Premium: While the main body is stainless steel, some parts such as the tamper and sections of the portafilter are plastic, which a few users feel detracts from the otherwise premium feel. “If I had to nitpick, the tamper is made of cheap plastic,” remarks a reviewer.
  • Pressure Gauge Lacks Numbered Markers: The pressure gauge is a useful feature, but several reviewers wish it displayed pressure in numbers instead of just zones. “First thing I noticed…was the pressure gauge, it has no numbers on it! So, I can see relative pressure, but not actual pressure; Strange to me,” shares one Amazon user.
  • Occasional Plastic Taste from Water Reservoir: Some early users noted a plastic taste or smell in the water, attributed to the new water tank. Most report this issue goes away after several thorough cleanings with vinegar or hot water.
  • Machine Can Move During Portafilter Lock-In: Due to the lightweight design, a handful of users report the machine may slide on the counter when locking in the portafilter. “There is no comfortable place to hold the machine in place while locking it, so it’s always a slight struggle,” notes a Best Buy reviewer.

🔄 How Has This Product Improved?

Many long-term De’Longhi users mention improvements in the EM450M compared to older models. The transition to more stainless steel and the enhanced automatic frother are frequent highlights. One customer states, “This new machine is a step up due to the stainless steel materials and more automatic frothing wand, but it retains the most important element that makes the DeLonghi machines stand out—the 15-bar Italian pump.” The preset controls and easier setup are also commonly cited as upgrades.

⚖️ How Does This Product Compare to Other Options?

The EM450M is often compared to higher-end espresso machines and older De’Longhi models. Users frequently note that, while it may lack some advanced features of professional machines, the espresso quality is on par with café standards at a fraction of the cost. Compared to budget alternatives, the EM450M is considered more durable and produces better crema. As one reviewer puts it, “It’s very light, mostly made of plastic…but the espresso is definitely better than our fancy machine and the steamer is better at making foam, for absolutely certainty.”

🎯 Is This Product Right for You?

This machine is ideal for home users who want a reliable and attractive espresso maker without breaking the bank. It’s especially recommended for beginners due to its simple setup, clear instructions, and intuitive controls, but coffee enthusiasts also enjoy its flexibility and consistent performance. If you want to enjoy café-style drinks at home, value a small footprint, and don’t need commercial-level features, the EM450M is a great choice.

🎮 What Are Real Users Saying?

Customers share stories about giving up coffee shop visits because the EM450M provides everything they need at home. Some mention making drinks for friends and family as a new “home barista.” One reviewer writes, “I feel like I’m making professional espresso drinks at home. Frothing milk is pretty fun and I feel like a barista when I do it!”

⚠️ What Are the Most Common Problems?

  • Plastic taste from new water tank (improves after cleaning)
  • Cup clearance too short for travel mugs
  • Lightweight machine moves when attaching portafilter
  • Switching between steam and espresso modes can require waiting or a reset

🔧 How to Fix Common Issues?

  • Plastic taste: Run several cycles of water mixed with vinegar through the machine, then rinse with plain water.
  • Cup clearance: Use smaller mugs or transfer to-go drinks after brewing.
  • Portafilter movement: Hold the base firmly while locking the portafilter, or place a non-slip mat under the machine.
  • Switching modes: Allow the machine to cool for a minute or perform a quick reset if switching from steam to espresso.

💡 How Can You Get the Best Experience with This Product?

  • Always use freshly ground, high-quality coffee beans for best results.
  • Clean the milk frother after every use to avoid buildup.
  • Experiment with both preset buttons and manual brewing to find your favorite espresso style.
  • Remove the red plug from the water tank before use to prevent leaks.

🏗️ How Durable Is This Product?

Most users report solid build quality and reliable performance over months of use. The stainless steel exterior helps with durability, though some components are plastic. “Been using this for a couple of months now. We have had trouble finding espresso machines that hold up with daily use over time…this water lasts for many cups of coffee,” shares an Amazon reviewer.

☎️ Customer Support & Warranty

Customer support from De’Longhi is often described as responsive and helpful. Several users mention prompt replacements and easy troubleshooting. One reviewer reports, “After describing the problem, they asked that we send a video…they replaced the machine without any further questions.”

Users who have owned the EM450M for several months report continued satisfaction with espresso quality, ease of cleaning, and consistent performance. Some De’Longhi fans mention their previous machines lasted years and expect the same longevity from this model.

Perfect addition for your coffee bar

I am not the biggest coffee drinker but my mother used to make the best Italian coffee in her moka pot. When I saw this machine I thought it would be nice to add a expresso machine to my coffee bar area. First off the Delonghi Linea expresso machine looks great on the shelf and is compact enough to fit next to my keurig machine. Since I am new to using this type of coffee maker I was glad the instructions were clear and easy to follow. After washing the unit out the set up was fairly simple. After filling up the water tank(which is located in the back of the unit) I spooned the grounds in the Porta filter and used the scoop/tamper to flatten the grounds down. There are 2 different size cup filters to chose from. You just need to decide if you want 1 shot or 2. After pressing the button in a few minutes your drink will be ready. It was fast and efficient. It came out hot and strong flavored. I also used the frother and it worked well for both almond and coconut milk. It warmed it up more than luke warm but not too hot. I think this is a great machine for anyone either new to expresso making or someone who already enjoys it every day. Once you get it you won’t really need to go to those fancy coffee shops anymore as you can have better fresher tasting coffee in the comfort of your own home.

Very easy to wipe down milk spout!

Update: I am unable to use my taller or reusable take along cups in this. The height between the base of the unit and where the espresso comes out doesn’t have enough space. My low to mid height cups are fine. I am still tinkering with the milk. I wish it would get a little warmer than it does. There doesn’t seem to be a post use cleaning mode for the milk nozzle so I have taken apart to wipe down and then put back together. I find the milk attachment to be a bit clunky and confusing to use.

Just made my first cappuccino with this. It has a nice flavor. There is some undertones of maybe new espresso maker taste. So I will update this as I brew a few more if that undertone goes away.

A standout feature is the milk was VERY easy to clean the wand off which is not at all my experience with another brand espresso maker that I have.

It was easy to assemble and I appreciate the stickers with the details about what to remove, attach and other details.

The instruction manual is not laid out in a manner that I find super helpful to start. I put the pieces I needed to together and washed everything. I had to jump around the pages a bit because instructions are here. Then images to refer to are a few pages back. I just skimmed the details I needed to make my capucino.

To use it the first time, you press the power button. Then wait for all of the lights to stop blinking. That signifies that the machine is up to speed/warmed up/ready to brew. I pressed 1 cup for espresso. I also had the 1 cup for the espresso filter in with espresso.

They did a wonderful job incorporating a lot of easy to recycle materials into the padding around the espresso machine. I love to see a lot of cardboard and easy to recycle items. The plastics are all the type I can take to recycle at our grocery store.

I am on the fence if I would order again or recommend. I will update this review as I gain more experience and try different things with the machine.

You will love this machine!

This machine is high quality. I bought a smaller espresso maker in another brand for just $20 dollars less, but the first one I received didn’t work at all. I tried again and the machine gave me a cold cup of espresso.
So I tried this brand after reading multiple reviews, and I am very pleased.
The crema is great. I use cream in my espresso and it’s like having a dessert each morning.
I got away from using Keurig and Nespresso. Too much plastic in aluminum in our food and drinks.
If you love espresso, this is a great machine for the price point.

Love this espresso machine! It does it all!

The De’Longhi Linea Classic transforms any kitchen into a professional coffee bar. This sleek, stainless-steel espresso machine delivers barista-quality drinks while maintaining a surprisingly compact footprint that complements modern kitchen designs.

At its heart, a robust 15-bar Italian pump ensures optimal pressure for extracting rich, flavorful espresso. The machine’s Thermoblock technology maintains precise temperature control, eliminating the wait between brewing and steaming. This consistency is essential for crafting everything from traditional espressos to trendy espresso martinis.

The versatile steam wand stands out with its dual-setting capability. Switch between gentle steaming for silky lattes and powerful frothing for creating Instagram-worthy latte art with microfoam. Both dairy and alternative milks transform beautifully under this adjustable wand.

Customization is straightforward with programmable single and double shot presets. The visual pressure gauge helps dial in the perfect extraction, while the adjustable drip tray accommodates various cup sizes. The reusable filter promotes sustainability while ensuring consistent results across different drink styles.

Whether crafting morning cappuccinos, afternoon iced caramel macchiatos, or evening Americanos, this machine delivers professional results. Its combination of Italian engineering and user-friendly features makes authentic café-style beverages accessible to home baristas of any skill level.

Great value for price

We had a $2,000 machine that died after 5 years. It would have cost anywhere between $200-$1000 to fix so we decided to just get a new machine. So we bought this one. It’s very light, mostly made of plastic…but you know what? The espresso is definitely better than our fancy machine and the steamer is better at making foam, for absolutely certainty. The steamer is difficult to just get your milk hot, and what happens is that it almost immediately starts making foam. That’s great but the milk isn’t getting hot enough at the same time. Overall, comparing side by side, I’d have to say this one makes a better Carmel machetto than the $2,000 fancy machine. If it last 10 months it’ll be the same value as the $2,000 machine.

Nearly perfect espresso machine, well worth the money

As a longtime customer of De Longhi, I have seen tremendous improvement in their machines. I was very happy with my last purchase a couple of years ago but unfortunately my little grandson broke the dial while playing with it, so I bought this new model for a lot more money (don’t worry, there are no dials to break). This is by far the best machine for its price on the market, and in fact it is very near to perfection. Read the (admittedly somewhat complicated) instructions carefully and especially don’t neglect to remove the red plastic cord on the bottom of the water reservoir. Once you have set it up and primed it properly it is very easy to use, just plug it in and press the button to start and the button for the number of cups you want (I prefer2, with that filter already installed) and it works automatically. Make sure the espresso is filled and tamped properly–invest in a separate tool for punching little holes in the espresso (really helps) and the heavy metal tamper, since the plastic one
is not very efficient. If done properly the result is a perfect shot every time, with at least 1/2 inch of
crema and no, or nearly no, residue in the cup. I prefer using the Capuccino size glasses rather than small cups, and also because you can add another shot or two to the glass if desired (see instructions). However, the crema lasts longer in an espresso cup, if that is important for you. Some have complained about water leaking but perhaps they did not remove the red cord from the bottom of the water reservoir; anyway, I have found no water leaking after constant use for over two weaks. Also, the pressure dial has no numbers on it because you don’t need them, it works automatically, perfectly every time and there is no need to do anything. Just enjoy this lovely gem!

Easy to use

My old espresso machine was on it’s way out and I did not want to spend too much money on a new one. This one was decent on price so I purchased it as a replacement. I like that the machine is shorter than my last one so that it fits under my cabinet area comfortably…allowing me to pull it out and push it back in easily.

The machine is easy to use. It comes with two basket for a single or double espresso. It also comes with a scooper. The basket for the coffee fits into the holder snugly. The one thing I didn’t like about this one was that the coffee basket was very snug in the holder that I have to use my nail to pry it out. Also, my last holder had a flap that I can flip over to keep the basket in place while I dumped the coffee grounds out. This one does not have it. But as I mentioned, it fits snugly so that the basket does not fall out even when I dumped the used coffee out.

The milk frother was also easy to use. Once the machine is on, I can click the frother button and turn the knob for it to start. I have to wait a little bit in order to use the frother since it does not always start right away. This is the reason for it losing one star.
