Pros & Cons
Pros
- Easy to Use and Clean: Many reviewers highlight the machine's straightforward operation, intuitive controls, and simple setup, making it ideal for beginners. It is also frequently noted for being easy to clean, including removable parts like the drip tray and water tank.
- Quality Espresso and Crema: Customers consistently praise the machine for producing delicious, rich, and strong espresso with a thick, velvety crema, often comparing the quality favorably to coffee shop beverages. The 15-bar Italian pump is mentioned as contributing to optimal extraction.
- Compact and Attractive Design: The espresso machine is frequently complimented for its sleek, modern, and compact design, which fits well on countertops without taking up much space. Its stainless steel and chrome finish contribute to an appealing aesthetic.
Cons
- Inconsistent Temperature and Slow Cycling: Several users report that the espresso is not hot enough, and the milk frother may not heat milk adequately. There are also complaints about long wait times when switching between brewing and steaming functions, or when making multiple drinks back-to-back, as the machine can overheat or require a cooling cycle.
- Plastic Taste/Smell and Material Concerns: A significant number of reviews mention a persistent toxic plastic smell or taste emanating from the water tank or other plastic components. Concerns are raised about hot coffee passing through plastic and the use of aluminum in the portafilter instead of stainless steel.
- Frother and Portafilter Issues: The milk frother is often criticized for producing large, airy bubbles instead of fine microfoam, or for being difficult to control and use effectively. The portafilter is noted for being cheaply made, having a small diameter (51mm) which limits accessories, leaving wet coffee pucks, or being challenging to lock into the machine.

Excellent for shots at home
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Wendal Weets March 25, 2025Review source: BestbuyAt a retail price of $200, I didn’t expect too much from this unit, as there don’t seem to be any cappuccino machines on the market at this price point without some major deficiency, notably their ability to heat up quickly.
When I first opened it, I was surprised at how compact it is. It is about the same size as my coffee machine; not huge, but not small.
I drink super strong black coffee at home and americano when ordering from out and about. I prefer americano but never had anything reliable to make espresso with at home. Enter this De’Longhi, which I now recommend to all my friends.
The two most important things for me is that it heats up enough and doesn’t take forever. Also important thing is that it doesn’t make a crazy mess and drip. I’m happy to report that the filter basket locks in easily and cleanly and the device gets nice a hot with ample pressure to make me excellent shots.
The only thing I dislike is that the clearance from the bottom to the dispenser is too short for the disposable hot lid cups I use for my coffee. I am happy to be drinking Americanos now from home, but I have to use a short mug every day and then pour into my take out cups. Small pain in the rear but it would have made the machine taller I guess. Leaving this under a cabinet is sort of moot because of the way the water tank is loaded. So I don’t love the design choice but not enough to knock a star off!

Great purchase
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Jacob Evans March 20, 2025Review source: AmazonWe have had the best experience with this product! We had learned how to use a manual espresso machine and decided we were ready to upgrade to something easier to use that required fewer steps. This price point was exactly what we wanted to spend without looking like it would be very amateurish or low quality. The pieces are all well made and easy to use. The scoop is a little awkward, but you do get used to it. A big difference between this and the manual we were using is that the manual required a lot of pressure to be built up and therefore very firm tamping. This machine works best, in our experience, if you use the scoop to measure out about 10 grams of espresso, ground finely, which is approximately one full scoop. Then you can tamp with the flat end of the scoop, but just enough to get the grounds firmed up. Otherwise your shot will be under extracted because the water won’t be able to pass through the puck.
Now, we did have an issue with this machine right off the bat. The pressure gauge needle wasn’t moving at all when we pulled a shot, even though pressure was obviously building up well enough to have registered. We contacted DeLonghi, whose reps gave us excellent customer service. After describing the problem, they asked that we send a video of the machine working. After seeing that they replaced the machine without any further questions and asked that we send back the defective model for repair. It was a very simple process and the new model works perfectly. I 100% recommend this machine if you’d like to make espresso at home without spending $600 to do so. -

Quality pump to produce excellent espresso with some extra frills.
Edward S Hsieh March 17, 2025Review source: AmazonThis is actually my second DeLonghi espresso machine. The previous one was the slightly cheaper model with a manual frothing wand made out of mostly plastic. That machine kept going strong for almost a decade and is still going, now relocated to my martial arts school. This new machine is a step up due to the stainless steel materials and more automatic frothing wand, but it retains the most important element that makes the DeLonghi machines stand out – the 15-bar Italian pump. I picked up the prior machine because all the information out there stated that the pump in the DeLonghi really stood out among espresso machines in this price range to produce good fresh espresso. So far, this new machine seems to have the same quality output, with extra frills, and blends right into my now nicer kitchen. The adjustable frothing wand is a real plus; the prior machine made you manually turn a dial and guess to get the right froth setting, but this one, you can dial in and just go with little thought. Overall, a quality espresso machine that looks good, just works right, plus has some nice upgrades.

A Really Nice Budget Espresso Machine
Bill M. March 16, 2025Review source: AmazonI primarily use this machine to make Americanos and espressos, but I’ve also used it to make several cappuccinos and lattes too. And I think this machine does an admirable job. The drinks are on par with most coffee house drinks in my opinion. But, of course, a good espresso machine isn’t the only thing you need to make good coffee drinks. You must also buy premium quality, fresh coffee beans too. And, to my taste buds, espresso-based coffee drinks only taste right/good if you use dark roast beans. Light roast beans are terrible, and medium roast beans just don’t do it for me.
If you’re looking for a basic espresso machine, I honestly don’t see how you can go wrong with this machine. It has a generously sized water tank, and the 15-bar pump does a good job extracting all of the flavor from the ground beans. I really like this machine. I think it’s an excellent machine for the price. And though it’s not all that important, I do think this machine looks pretty nice/stylish too. It has a reasonably sized footprint, so I think it would fit and look pretty nice on the vast majority of kitchen counters.
If you have any questions about this De’Longhi Linea espresso machine, please feel free to ask, and I’ll try my best to answer. I hope you found this review helpful.

Makes great lattes!
Purple Monkey March 16, 2025Review source: AmazonI’ll start with the positives. This compact machine makes a great tasting latte! As good or better as my local coffee shop. If you start with quality, finely ground coffee, the De’ Longhi will extract a beautiful cup of hot espresso with a thick brown and honey colored crema. The milk steamer is more like a thick tube rather than a wand and not what I am used to. It took a few tries to get the hang of it and to figure out how to get a whirlpool going without spitting milk everywhere. But it does “stretch” the milk nicely to double the original volume and gives a thick silky textured microfoam. I like to top my lattes with a layer of foam so I purposely add more “air” but if you submerge the rod lower, you can steam the milk without adding as much foam. I like that the drip tray is removable so that you can use larger cups. I also like that even though the water tank is in the back of the machine, the lid flips open from front to back which allows for easy filling without having to remove the tank. The small design flaws I noticed are minor. One is that the portafilter baskets do not have any max fill line indicators to guide you in how much coffee to add. Cheaper espresso machines I have owned all have this so I am not sure why the De’Longhi does not. The other design issue is that after you remove the stainless steel steaming tube for cleaning, to re-install it you have to line up a tiny plastic tab on the wand with a tiny little notch on the tube, push the tube up, then twist to lock. The tab and notch are positioned towards the back of the machine, away from your line of sight so it is a challenge to get them lined up. I wish this had been designed differently but it is a small issue and overall I still love the look and performance of this machine.

Great value for price
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.AngelaN March 15, 2025Review source: AmazonWe had a $2,000 machine that died after 5 years. It would have cost anywhere between $200-$1000 to fix so we decided to just get a new machine. So we bought this one. It’s very light, mostly made of plastic…but you know what? The espresso is definitely better than our fancy machine and the steamer is better at making foam, for absolutely certainty. The steamer is difficult to just get your milk hot, and what happens is that it almost immediately starts making foam. That’s great but the milk isn’t getting hot enough at the same time. Overall, comparing side by side, I’d have to say this one makes a better Carmel machetto than the $2,000 fancy machine. If it last 10 months it’ll be the same value as the $2,000 machine.
