Gigabyte M27U 27″ UHD 160Hz IPS AMD FreeSync Premium Pro Gaming Monitor

I payed almost $600 for this monitor and when I got it I was super happy and excited it was very colorful and runs everything max for ps5 but after a week of playing on ps5 it’s completely garbage and turns off after every use after 30 mins of running rainbow,call of duty , Fortnite, and elden ring it turned off. I wasn’t expecting a monitor so expensive to be so trash!

I was in need of a new monitor as my secondary monitor finally stopped working and my main monitor is over 13 years old now. So it’s only a matter of time before it goes as well. So I spent a lot of time doing research and found a lot of recommendations for the m27u being a good all rounder for use.

In my search for a new monitor one of the things I was looking for was good off angle viewing. Being a ips panel and all the reviews seeming to say that off angle on the monitor is ok I ordered the m27u. After getting it setup it only took me a little bit of time to noticed that being anywhere other then directly in front of it causes the colors to wash out. Pretty sure it’s the matte filter they put in front of the panel. I’ve included pictures of the m27u and two older ips displays. M27u is the middle one, left is a Dell 2408WFP from 2009, and the laptop is a ips, not sure what panel from 2013. It’s so bad that what some might assuming is ips panel glow is really the filter starting to wash out the corners of the screen sitting in front of it.

Other wise the monitor seems good, 4k high refresh, some hdr support. Though I’m not sure why they included built in speakers. I’d be ok with built in speakers, but these sounds like they were tossed in to just tick a box and no testing was done to see if they add anything of worth. If anything they make the monitor seem like cheap junk if you couldn’t see the panel. You get better audio quality out of most cell phones these days.

Coming from an older Lenovo productivity monitor at 1440p to this has been amazing. I did not expect the clarity in every day tasks to be so obvious, but the 4k resolution is perfection. The pixel density is insane, and though I’d probably consider a 32″ mounted to an arm for my next upgrade, this 27″ fits on my desk nicely ATM.

No dead pixels, and the IPS bleed was quite good. The OSD is good, and offers most of the settings you’d expect at this level. I’m running it at 120Hz and using Picture Quality in the settings, and it looks great.

Overall, I’m very pleased at what we can obtain from a monitor these days given the low entry price of less than 500 USD.

Unfortunately, 2 of 2 units I’ve recieved have had a screen flicker. It’ll go black at random times. It’s only for a second or two, but this is unacceptable for a $450 (or $550) monitor. Gigabyte support recommended returning it. Seems like a loose solder joint or something in the mobo is unreliable.

Unit does this hooked up to either of 2 computers, none of the other 2 monitors do it, and it’s powered via a UPS that should clean the power.

As other reviews have said after about a month it will black screen and not detect inputs. The power cord falls out and will not stay in position to stay on. It periodically shut off on it’s own during use. It is a good monitor… when it works….

I do stream and this monitor is the best for a ps5

Half display was turning grey when playing game for a while. Need to restart it, then return normal, but after 30mins it turn grey again. It may because the production quality control. So sad I have the bad one, hope it will have good QC in the future. It is a great display with decent price and great features.

Overall Review: I bought this to replace my 1440p display because I felt like I was wasting my 4080. Compared to other gaming 4k displays, this one felt right to get due to its low cost at the time of purchase. It wont beat out the overall quality of other high end 4k displays, but its still worth considering if youre on a budget. Dont even bother trying the HDR feature. This does not have the brightness to give a proper HDR image. For SDR gaming however, Ive loved every second so far.

Coming from the BenQ line of products, this is leaps and bounds ahead. Excellent refresh, beautiful colors, and the added KVM capability is great! At this point, I don’t know how I could go without a KVM in my setup. Is it the best? debatable, but it looks great, feels durable, and has served its purpose wonderfully thus far. No issues as of yet, would recommend.

Pros: – Looks good outside of dark imagery. Colors are deep and come across well.

– Has USB Type C Power Delivery, albeit only 15W

– Has a Half baked KVM feature which is better than none I suppose.

– Honestly, I would buy it again if the IPS Glow wasn’t so very bad, but sending it back seems like the only sane thing to do here. I am considering trying again, buying literally the same monitor again and hoping to win the panel lottery by simply getting a not awful panel =/

Cons: – My unit, which I am returning has awful very visible red fangs of IPS Glow on the bottom corners of the monitor that are visible at a variety of angles to me. I tried a lot to stomach them. Lightly pressing the bottom lips of the bezel seems to in some positions get rid of some of this, so I imagine that with proper re-engineering of the plastic holding the monitor, this could largely be eliminated. Its also very possible I just very much so lost out on the panel lottery though, which is why I am very much so considering literally just buying the same monitor again.

-Not real HDR (8 local dimming zones is not remotely enough to have any semblance of real HDR levels of contrast)

-Features are arbitrarily limited in HDR mode which is quite frustrating.

– Power delivery, which is nice, is only 15W so only enough to power a mobile Phone

-There is some vignetting and bluing around the edges of the display, but It is a stomachable amount to me. No panel is perfect, and this is the type of imperfection I think could pass, not the obvious red fangs.

Overall Review: So this monitor is pretty good, its a great value, but try as I might to ignore it, the unit I have, has such severe IPS glow it was just extremely visible in every situation showing dark backgrounds at the corner of the screen.

Worse yet, unlike typical IPS glow, it comes across as 2 very obvious red fangs at the bottom of the display in real life. The image I have included has a typical older TN panel and you can see that older, supposedly worse technology has much better black uniformity than this brand new 4k “””HDR””” monitor.

Now, I realize that the camera does exaggerate it slightly, but I can tell you that my lived experience has the bottom red fangs showing up quite strongly, to the point that when Im in VSCode, what will be displayed on this monitor the vast amount of the time if Im honest, Its very visible and bothersome as text in that region gets visibly color shifted and its just not pleasant to look at.

That being said, given that there is always variance, and I like most of the other aspects of the monitor like the decent, but limited Type-C, and the “technically functional” KVM, I just can’t stomach this level of IPS Glow, where the color literally changes.

As a minor nitpick, the decision to arbitrarily restrict the user from modifying brightness in HDR mode is quite bothersome as its completely possible for the user to want the monitor to be able to make use of the higher level of detail with less brightness even if that means its “”less accurate””. I strongly feel that the monitor company shouldn’t be enforcing how I use my monitor, and If I desire to lower the brightness in HDR mode, I should be able to.

Speaking of that, many options are removed in HDR mode and that is quite unfortunate.

Lastly, this monitor DOES NOT have local dimming. It may say it does, but it has 8 zones, which basically means they are either always on, or incredibly jarring and couldn’t possibly improve image quality in any scene.
