🗣️ Customers Say

Many users praise the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw for its fast print speed and crisp, professional output, making it ideal for small offices and home offices alike. However, several reviewers note that toner costs and occasional paper jams can detract from its value over time.

Customer Reviews Summary

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw consistently receives high marks for print quality, with customers highlighting its ability to produce sharp text and vibrant color graphics. Numerous reviewers mention that the Duplex Printing feature works flawlessly, allowing for automatic two-sided printing which saves both time and paper. One Amazon reviewer wrote: “Great printer. Easy setup. 15 minutes from unboxing to printing. Great quality.” This sentiment echoes across sites, with Staples and BestBuy customers similarly impressed by the color accuracy when printing marketing materials or presentations.

Ease of use is another recurring theme. Many users describe a plug-and-play setup, praising the Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet connectivity that enable quick integration into existing networks. The 5-inch color touchscreen interface simplifies navigation through settings, as noted by a BestBuy reviewer: “The touchscreen is intuitive—changing paper trays, scanning options, and ink levels is a breeze.” Mobile printing options such as AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, and the HP Smart app receive frequent mentions, making it easy to initiate prints from smartphones and tablets.

On the flip side, long-term reliability and cost of ownership generate mixed feedback. While some customers report stable performance after months of moderate use, others experience hardware issues beyond the first year. The high price of original HP toner cartridges appears in multiple reviews, with comments like “Lasted ONLY 15 months and the ink is expensive!” Users also occasionally encounter paper jams, especially when printing on thicker or specialty papers. Overall satisfaction hovers around 4 out of 5 stars across platforms, signaling solid performance but with some caveats related to consumables and occasional maintenance.

✅ What Are the Advantages of This Product?

  • Fast Print Speed: Users frequently highlight the 40-page-per-minute capacity for black-and-white and 40-ppm for color pages, resulting in minimal wait times. One Amazon user noted, “Prints come out almost instantly; I didn’t expect this speed for a mid-range model.” The first page out in as little as 8 seconds is another advantage, allowing teams to stay productive during peak printing hours. Reviewers consistently mention that the efficient print engine handles both text documents and color graphics with equal ease.
  • High Print Quality: Multiple reviewers praise the 600 × 600 dpi resolution, emphasizing crisp text and vibrant images. A BestBuy customer stated, “My marketing brochures look every bit as sharp as those printed at the office supply store.” The printer’s Original HP Toner cartridges with JetIntelligence deliver consistent results page after page, minimizing streaks or color shifts. Even when printing photographs or complex diagrams, users find the output to be consistently professional.
  • Easy Setup and Connectivity: Across all platforms, customers remark on the plug-and-play installation. The built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and Ethernet support ensure flexible network placement without complex configuration. An HP forum reviewer wrote, “Connected via Wi-Fi in under five minutes with no driver hiccups.” The HP Smart app for mobile devices further simplifies tasks such as scanning and copying directly from smartphones. This seamless integration into home or office networks garners repeated praise.
  • Robust Build and Design: Reviewers appreciate the sturdy construction and compact footprint, which fits comfortably on crowded desktops. The enclosed toner cartridge bay makes replacement quick and mess-free, as one Staples user explained: “Toner swaps are so straightforward—no spills or dust.” The color touchscreen also receives accolades for durability and responsiveness, helping users navigate menus without frustration.

❌ What Are the Disadvantages of This Product?

  • High Cost of Toner Cartridges: Multiple users lament that Original HP Toner is expensive, with a five-star Amazon reviewer warning: “Toner refills will run you hundreds a year if you print frequently.” Third-party toner is often blocked or yields inferior quality, prompting users to stick with OEM supplies. The per-page yield can feel low for heavy-volume users, resulting in higher operational costs compared to some competitors.
  • Occasional Paper Jams: While generally reliable, there are scattered reports of paper jams, especially when using thicker cardstock or non-standard paper sizes. A BestBuy buyer commented, “Every few months, a jam occurs in the lower tray, requiring me to remove the roller assembly to fix it.” Although most jams clear quickly, they can interrupt important print jobs and require occasional maintenance.
  • Bulky Footprint: Despite being described as “compact” by users, the MFP’s dimensions (18.9 × 18.4 × 16.9 inches) and weight (48 pounds) can pose challenges for tight workspaces. One B&H reviewer stated, “It’s heavier than I thought and takes up a decent chunk of my desk.” Although its build quality is appreciated, potential buyers should verify desk or shelf measurements before purchasing.
  • Reliability Over Time: Some reviewers note that performance may degrade after a year or two of continuous use. An Amazon user reported: “Lasted ONLY 15 months…this sort of investment should last a few years.” Another wrote: “After about 18 months, printhead issues began—HP replaced it under warranty, but it’s worrisome.” Long-term reliability appears variable, with mixed experiences reported across sources.

🔄 How Has This Product Improved?

Some users compare this model to earlier HP Color LaserJet series, noting faster warm-up times and improved wireless connectivity. One BestBuy customer said, “My old LaserJet would cough up errors constantly—this one never misses a wireless print job.” Others highlight that the newer JetIntelligence toners offer slightly higher yield and better color fidelity than previous-generation cartridges, enhancing overall value.

⚖️ How Does This Product Compare to Other Options?

Reviewers often compare the HP 4301fdw to Brother HL-L8360CDW and Canon Color imageCLASS MF649Cdw. Many find the HP’s color accuracy superior, making it preferable for marketing materials, whereas the Brother model excels at lower cost-per-page but delivers less vibrant colors. One Staples user noted, “Brother’s output was muddy—HP is crisp.” Compared to Canon’s MFP, HP’s touchscreen interface is more responsive, though Canon sometimes edges out HP on toner yield per cartridge.

🎯 Is This Product Right for You?

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw is ideal for small to medium-sized offices and home offices that need reliable, high-volume color printing and professional-quality documents. If you print marketing collateral, full-color presentations, or frequent reports, the fast print speed and accurate color rendering are major benefits. However, if your budget is tight or you require ultra-low cost-per-page, a monochrome laser or alternative color model like Brother may be more cost-effective. Users who prioritize ease of mobile printing and network integration will find this model particularly appealing.

⚠️ What Are the Most Common Problems?

  • Toner Cost Concerns: As noted earlier, OEM HP cartridges remain expensive. Many users advise budgeting accordingly to avoid surprise replacement costs.
  • Paper Jams on Specialty Media: Print jobs on cardstock or non-standard labels can trigger jams in the lower tray if the paper sensor isn’t adjusted.
  • Firmware/Driver Glitches: Rarely, a firmware update can temporarily disrupt Wi-Fi connectivity, requiring a manual reinstallation of drivers. A few BestBuy reviewers resolved this by downloading the latest HP software from the official site.

🔧 How to Fix Common Issues?

  • Prevent Paper Jams: Use the right paper tray settings for specialty media. One user tip recommends lightly fanning heavy cardstock before loading to reduce static cling and misfeeds.
  • Lower Toner Costs: Enroll in HP’s Instant Ink program or use HP subscription services to save on high-volume printing. Some users also purchase high-yield toner cartridges directly from HP to extend page yield.
  • Resolve Connectivity Hiccups: If Wi-Fi drops after an update, reset the network settings via the touchscreen menu (“Settings → Network → Restore Network Defaults”) and reconnect. Download the latest drivers from HP’s support website rather than relying on CD-based installers.

💡 How Can You Get the Best Experience with This Product?

  • Enable Duplex Mode by Default: Save paper and streamline multi-page documents by setting duplex printing as your default preference in the printer driver.
  • Use High-Quality Paper: For best color vibrancy, load HP Color LaserJet paper or premium matte finishes rather than generic sheets.
  • Regular Maintenance: Clean the rollers and internal sensors every few months. One Amazon reviewer wrote: “A quick roller wipe every three months prevented 90% of my paper jams.”
  • Leverage the HP Smart App: Scan and print directly from your mobile device. The app also provides real-time ink level monitoring and push notifications when toner is low.

🏗️ How Durable Is This Product?

Most reviewers agree that the 4310fdw has solid build quality, with the metal frame and sturdy plastic housing resisting warping or cracking. Several users exceed one year of daily printing without hardware failures, though consumer experiences vary. As one BestBuy customer noted: “After eight months of heavy use, it’s still going strong with no hiccups.” However, reliability can decline if maintenance steps—like clearing paper dust from the rollers—are neglected.

☎️ Customer Support & Warranty

HP offers a one-year limited hardware warranty with options to extend up to three years. Many users report responsive support, with replacement parts arriving quickly under warranty. One Staples reviewer mentioned, “HP sent a technician to my office two days after my support call and replaced the faulty paper feed assembly at no charge.” Others note that warranty claims can be processed through HP’s online support portal or via phone without hassle.

⏳ What Do Long-Term Users Say?

Long-term feedback varies: around the 15–18 month mark, some customers begin to report printhead issues or roller wear. One Amazon reviewer shared: “Ran flawlessly for 14 months, then print quality degraded. A quick cartridge swap fixed it, but it was disappointing.” Conversely, other users have passed the two-year mark without any component failures. The consensus is that routine cleaning and OEM toner usage help extend lifespan significantly.

🤔 Is This Product Worth It?

Based on the volume of positive feedback, many users believe the HP 4301fdw is worth its price for those who prioritize professional print quality, fast output, and robust mobile/ network features. If you mostly print black-and-white documents, the cost of color toner may feel prohibitive. But for users needing frequent color prints—like marketing teams or home entrepreneurs designing flyers—the investment pays off in time savings and finish quality. Overall, the product earns strong recommendations for its balance of performance, ease of use, and build reliability.

❓ FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • How long does the toner last?
Using standard-yield HP cartridges, you can expect around 1,500 pages of black-and-white prints and 1,300 pages of color prints. High-yield cartridges extend this to 4,000 pages for black and 3,000 pages for color. Actual yield depends on coverage and print settings.
  • Does the printer support mobile printing?
Yes. The 4301fdw offers AirPrint, Wi-Fi Direct, Google Cloud Print, and the HP Smart app. Users can print directly from Android, iOS, or Windows devices without installing drivers by leveraging Wi-Fi Direct.
  • What is the monthly duty cycle?
The maximum monthly duty cycle is 100,000 pages, with a recommended monthly volume of 2,000–5,000 pages to ensure longevity. Exceeding recommended usage may lead to earlier maintenance intervals.
  • Can it scan and copy?
Absolutely. The MFP includes a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) for multi-page scanning and copying. Reviews frequently praise the auto-flip duplex scanning feature, which automatically scans both sides of double-sided documents.
  • How do I replace the toner?
Access the toner access door on the front panel, remove the old cartridge, and slide in a new Original HP Toner. The touchscreen will guide you through reset steps. Users appreciate that resetting takes under 30 seconds with no leftover toner dust.

For my classroom

I have an older HP model in my classroom that has slowly been falling apart on me. I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new printer over the summer. In order to have the same features as my old printer, I had to upgrade and pay a lot more. Not to mention, the ink on this is ridiculously expensive (more than the printer itself). That being said, the printer is amazing. It’s quiet (see video) and prints beautiful crisp images. I like that I have the option of 2-1 and 2-2 sided copying. Being a teacher, I use all four of the copying options (see picture). This prints really well on card stock. No jams and no smears(see green and pink paper pictures). The reason for four stars is because I hooked up the printer (which was super easy to do), but couldn’t get the thing to print in color. I had everything marked and checked for color, but nada. I did some research online and found a forum that gave me a list of instructions. I followed them to the best of my ability and after that was able to print in color. I still couldn’t tell you what I did though. Also, print jobs wouldn’t remove from the queue. I did some troubleshooting on that too, but couldn’t find a fix. I just left it alone and it seems to have fixed itself because no longer do the jobs stay in the queue after printing. Some of the functions on the printer are locked (how fast it goes to sleep) and you’ll need a pin to unlock them. The pin is located inside the cover for the ink. Overall, solid printer that more than meets my needs as a teacher. Hopefully this one holds up for a few years down the road.

DO NOT BUY–You are locked into only using HP ink

I really liked this printer when we first got it. Print quality was incredible, fast printing, and easy to use. But after about a week, the ink was empty and we had to get some more…..needless to say the OEM ink was going to cost us close to $600, so we opted into the HP unlimited Ink program for $119 a month. It almost worked…..they would never send out the ink in time, so always 2-3 days without ink, and there were always “Overages” so our bill form HP was over $200 a month. We finally had enough and cancelled it. As soon as we did, the ink cartridges quit working, so we had to get more ink. We decided to try the aftermarket ink (with chip) and it worked perfectly, except that within a month, it started squeaking SO loud that you could not be in the same room with it. Contacted HP and they said the drum roller had gone bad, but since we used aftermarket ink, the printer was out of warranty….needless to say after being an HP customer for over 20 years, we are done with HP. (Also forgot to mention, anytime we had to call tech support, we got someone in Pakistan and took about 5-6 hours to fix networking issues, about 2x a week)

Don’t buy!!! Its crappy

It is an Ok printer! Not as good as a xerox color laser printer. 2 things that I don’t like about this printer. 1. Not an Adobe Postscript 3 printer!!! A must for designer/printe enthusiast. 2. Disconnects to wifi after idle and you must connect it again.
UPDATE..Still not fixed!!!!
Don’t buy this especially if you want the fax feature for your business. There is no way you leave it on. HP being so conscious about energy saving feature that they decided not to have this printer on all the time. Another thing is it disconnects from your wifi. It also doesn’t come with an icc profile and that is important if you are printing trying to match what the colors are on your screen. Buy xerox and if you buy their toners directly from xerox then you get to extend your warranty. HP will not push a firmware update to fix. Customer service is none!!! Wish I still can return this peace of crap.
I AM REALLY PISSED at this printer and HP. They haven’t fixed this problem. Toners are very expensive and prints less pages. This will be the last HP product that I will own. I wish I can return it and buy the xerox! Try XEROX multi function printers! Hope that HP will lose their credibility by making such crappy but expensive product. HP please accept my return and refund me my money.
**Update***
HP customer service sucks DONT BUY HP

Solid MFP

This is a steep purchase price for me but decided to make the crossover to a laser printer. That said it was relatively easy to get on network and working. There was a short firmware system update but wasn’t unbearable and managed its self. all the PC’s and android devices were the easiest to connect and set up. The Mac OS set up wasn’t at all hard but a little more involved to be sure (some App Store downloads and setup). All told the Mac’s were the most involved and still not terrible to set up, rather just a bit time consuming (15=25min).

Print quality is much better than expected. print speed also better than expected. I will say the spooling time is significantly shorter than I’m used too (big win). It’s a bit on the loud side if you have a home office like me, but not so much so that it wrecks my day. on that note the quiet mode in the settings did help with that.

Failed after 3 months, firmware error code, HP support useless, no product manual online

Oh well, after a decade or more avoiding HP printers in my businesses, I thought I’d give this one a try. Mistake. I am an IT Pro, this unit throws a cryptic error code that generally means “power it on and off again and if that doesn’t work, try a firmware update”. However, unit had the latest firmware.

The issue began when I replaced the spent color cartridges with factory new HP Brand cartridges – not remanufactured or 3rd party. These were bought from Amazon, sold by Amazon LLC off the “HP Store” page on the Amazon site. I suspect the “genuine replacement” encoding in the cartridges if for some reason incompatible or out of sync with the firmware in this printer – it’s trying to recognize the cartridges and doesn’t think they are legitimate.

HP in-warranty support is all but useless. Got an agent on chat quickly, but it took a full hour of address confirmation and preamble to get to the actual support. What did they tell me to do? Do a factory reset. Duh. Can you tel me what this code means? Do you think these cartridges are defective? Has anyone else reported this? Can you look at the printer logs I uploaded to see if the error codes indicate anything???

Moral of the store: Don’t by HP products.

EXCELLENT MULTI-FUNCTION PRINTER

The new Hewlett Packard Laser Jet Pro 4301fdw MFP (Model 4RA82F) represents the features and functionality that are essential to me. Multi-Function Printers combine the functions of Printer, Scanner, Copier and Fax Machine into a single, integrated device..

The HP LJ Pro 4301fdw MFP is meeting my needs extremely well! Among the attributes of the 4301fdw are:

• Color Printing and Copying.
• Full-Duplex Scanning (some MFPs provide only duplex printing, but not duplex scanning).
• Full-Duplex Printing.
• 50 Sheet Auto-Document Feeder.
• 250 Sheet (#20 basis weight) Main Paper Tray.
• 50 Sheet (#20 basis weight) Multi-Purpose Paper Tray (which opens from the front of the printer).
• 150 Sheet output bin.
• Touchscreen Control Panel (4.3” capacitive).
• Flexible and powerful Connectivity including Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet Port.
o Wi-Fi is 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) but not 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6).
• Rated at 35 Pages Per Minute (PPM) for both Black & White and Color Single Sided, Letter Size Pages for both Printing and Copying. (Which is an extremely fast print speed for a non-commercial printer).
o Two-Sided Printing speed is not specified; however Two-Sided Copying speed is specified as 31 PPM for both monochrome and color pages.
• First Page Out speed of only 9.1 seconds for black & white and 9.9 seconds for letter size color pages.
o HP does not provide the basis for the printing or copy speed claims. Some manufacturers base the advertised printing speeds on ISO/IEC Standard 24734 and base copy speeds on ISO/IEC 29183 which specifies detailed parameters for testing the performance of copiers and multifunction devices. Actual printing speeds are dependent upon what is being printed. Typically, more complex content on a page will result in a longer print time.
o In use, the 4301fdw printing speeds are incredibly fast for both single and double-sided sheets. The first sheet out time, even for a very complex graphic page, was just seconds.
• Print Resolution of 600×600 dpi for black & white and color. Pantone calibrated color.
o imageREt 2400 – which is an imaging quality option that mixes multiple toner colors within single dots, rather than using standard dithering, which is a multi-level trapping technology intended to result in a synthesized resolution replicating 2400 dpi.
• Scan Resolution of 600×600 dpi Hardware Resolution and Optical Resolution

HP states that the 4301fdw is suitable for use by small businesses and workgroups of up to ten users. HP also claims that the 4301fdw has a monthly duty cycle of up to 50,000 pages (letter or A4 sheets), however the recommended monthly page volume is listed as only 750 – 4,000 sheets, which is a significant difference from the stated duty cycle.

The cost of keeping any printer fed with expensive toner or ink can seem punishing. In this case, if you replace the set of four toner cartridges just twice, the cost of those cartridges exceeds the original price of the printer.

For this new model line of MFP printers, HP has introduced a new line of toner cartridges at a new, high price point. According to HP, the new TerraJet Cartridges and packaging are designed for a low carbon footprint with reduced plastic and energy use. HP also claims that TerraJet Toner is more efficient and produces more pages per cartridge.

The 4301fdw uses HP 210A (standard yield) or 210X (high yield) toner cartridges. The 210A Black Toner Cartridge is rated to yield approximately 2,000 pages. The 210A Color Cartridges (Yellow, Cyan and Magenta) are rated to yield approximately 1,800 pages. The 210X Black Toner Cartridge is rated at approximately 7,500 pages, and the 210X Color Cartridges are rated for approximately 5,500 pages. The cost per page using 210A standard yield cartridges is approximately $0.24 per page, and using the expensive 210X high yield cartridges the approximate cost per page is $0.15. The printer comes equipped with a standard black toner cartridge, but includes limited usage, “Introductory” color toner cartridges which are rated to yield only approximately 1,000 color pages.

HP has adopted the same OEM restrictions as some other printer manufacturers, and the firmware of the 4301fdw will only permit the printer to operate with genuine HP toner cartridges which have an HP chip embedded in them.

The 4301fdw is designed to accept an optional (and somewhat expensive) 550 sheet, third paper tray (second cassette tray – Part Number 28N93A). I frankly wish that the second paper cassette was standard, since it is frequently important to have two media sizes loaded in cassettes at the same time, such as for a mail-merge. The combined capacity of all three paper trays would be 850 sheets.

To make use of all of the features and functionality of the 4301fdw, the HP Smart App must be installed. Although scan software and drivers are available for a basic, functional setup, only the Smart App accommodates a full featured configuration and utilization of HP cloud services. The Smart App must be linked to an existing or new HP Account. The 4301 supports fax archiving and forwarding so that faxes can be sent to a network folder or email address, rather than printing the pages upon receipt. I still cannot configure that functionality properly. In order for the fax to be recognized as a printing path for applications such as MS Office, I found it necessary to download and install the HP Universal Fax Driver for Windows.

HP Embedded Web Server provides a browser accessed printer homepage for numerous configuration and operation settings, including fax settings. EWS can be accessed from the Smart App or a browser window. A PIN number is required to access EWS and for many configuration changes. The PIN is even required to change the sleep setting (why???). The pre-assigned PIN is located on a tag accessed from the front door. The PIN can be changed, but the required length and format of a user defined PIN might offend your sensibilities.

HP Smart App provides a user interface to numerous printer functions, including scanning, but there is also an HP Scan app. There are numerous dissimilarities in both the user interface and the available settings including features, functionality and available scan resolutions.

Setting up the 4301fdw was not without complications. After downloading the full set of drivers and scan software, there were operational issues. Ultimately, I uninstalled all of the HP software, performed a factory default reset on the 4301 printer, and reinstalled the drivers and software. I found that using the HP Easy Start Printer Setup software was the preferred installation method. Nevertheless, there was still an issue during the reinstallation process, which was resolved by completing the setup with HP Smart App

I have had issues with HP software in the past, so I am disappointed to encounter software deficiencies and problems once again.

The 4301fdw measures approximately 16.5” wide x 17” deep x 15” high, and weighs approximately 45 lbs. Many of the plastic components are much thinner than those on my previous HP printers. Resultantly, there is flexion in parts that were formerly rigid and durable. The very thin profile, momentary contact power switch is flush on the front panel, making it more difficult to access and depress.

The 4301fdw accepts a wide range of media sizes and types, including glossy and heavy papers. Duplex printing on 67# Bristol and 110# Index card stock from the main cassette paper tray performed perfectly, without any paper feeding or printing issues.

The 4301fdw print quality is outstanding!

Close inspection, including under magnification, of extremely detailed Test & Sign-Off Print Samples confirmed the excellent print quality. Pantone color matching was not performed, but color accuracy appeared to be excellent. Color saturation and gradation were excellent. Gray scale gradation was similarly excellent. Lines were sharp and definition was excellent. There were no printing defects observable, even under magnification. Photorealism was excellent. I compared an identical print sample from a different HP laser-jet, using magnification, and found that the 4301 produced even sharper and smoother lines than the other model.

Scanning operations were incredibly fast for both single-sided and double-sided media. The duplexing ADF performs very well and is extremely fast. No misfeeds occurred, but there was intermittent and variable skewing. I scanned several hundred pages, including rescanning the same sheets multiple times to compare results, and found that the skewing was not related to the quality or weight of the paper. The issue appears to be hardware related, perhaps to the plucking and feeding of the sheets by the ADF, or perhaps it is attributable to the small size and flexibility of the paper guides, or perhaps the feed rollers are responsible.

Photocopying is of course an operation which merges the scanning and printing functions, and its performance is equally excellent and fast. The 4301fdw supports reduction, enlargement, density adjustment and collation.

Thus far the 4301fdw has been performing very well. Printing is extremely fast. Printed copy looks terrific. Scanning is also incredibly fast. Full duplex scanning, printing and copying works very well, and the speed is truly very impressive. The 4301 handles all types and weights of paper without jams or other issues.

The 4301fdw is providing good, solid, reliable performance. In the event that the product ever does require service, it is comforting that it carries a one-year, next business day, on-site warranty.

The HP 4301fdw MFP is a very good unit in my opinion. It performs all of the important functions that a demanding user can expect from an MFP, and it performs them all very well, and very quickly.

YOU NEED THIS PRINTER

this printer is excellent. super fast, super quiet, super easy setup. best colors on any printer we have ever owned. before we can walk to the printer 10 feet away the doc is finished. excellent networking, hp online account is the best in the industry. we havent signed up for instant ink yet, but thats next on the list. the only negative we have found is… it only comes with one paper tray. we have printed from our phones from out in the field to the office just to forward info and its awesome. we would suggest to network this and all your computers hardwired w/cat6, not wifi, for fastest possible connection.

Great printer

Wanted a laser as I’m sick of trying to get my epson inkjet nozzles clear every time I need to print. It printed beautiful photos, but was a pain.

This printer works every time. Is really fast (about 10 sec to output from a cold start) and has excellent print results. The photos are not quite inkjet good, but are close enough. I bought the HP pro premium paper for the photos. But, just on the white HP paper, pictures look excellent. You can’t expect perfect with only 3 colors. I actually bought a brother laser first. The photos were washed out and unacceptable. I returned it. Really happy with this HP. Now when my kids need to print their homework last minute they can.
