Many users praise its versatility as an all-in-one device capable of printing, scanning, copying, and faxing, making it ideal for home offices and small businesses. Its compact size and modern design allow it to fit seamlessly into most workspaces. Users appreciate features like the automatic document feeder, duplex printing, and seamless wireless connectivity via the HP Smart app. Additionally, the one-year free ink subscription with HP+ is a major selling point for frequent users, providing convenience and cost savings for high-volume printing needs.

Moreover, the printer’s high-speed printing and scanning capabilities have been highlighted as standout features, especially for users who regularly handle large document volumes. Its compatibility with a variety of devices, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets, adds to its appeal. Customers have also noted the printer’s ability to produce vibrant and detailed images, making it suitable for creative tasks such as printing photos or brochures.

However, not all experiences have been positive. Some customers report challenges with the initial setup, particularly related to wireless connectivity and compatibility with existing devices. A few have expressed frustration over noisy operation and error messages during printing. Issues with paper jams and inconsistent software updates have also been noted by some users. Despite these issues, the majority of reviews highlight its excellent print quality, fast performance, and user-friendly interface, making it a popular choice for those seeking an all-in-one solution.

PROS

  • Excellent Print Quality: Many users highlight the printer’s ability to produce sharp and vibrant prints, both in color and black-and-white. “The print quality is outstanding,” said one reviewer, noting that it exceeded their expectations for both text and images. Another customer shared, “The colors are vivid, and the text is crisp, even on draft mode.”
  • User-Friendly Design: The intuitive touchscreen interface and easy-to-navigate HP Smart app make it simple to set up and operate. A customer shared, “Setting up took only 20 minutes with clear instructions provided in the app.” The app’s ability to manage multiple devices seamlessly has also been appreciated.
  • Versatile Functionality: This all-in-one printer supports multiple tasks, including scanning, copying, faxing, and duplex printing. “It’s a complete solution for my home office needs,” a user wrote. The ability to handle various paper sizes and types further enhances its functionality.
  • Compact and Space-Saving: Despite its robust capabilities, the printer’s design ensures it doesn’t occupy much space. “It’s compact and fits perfectly on my desk,” one reviewer noted. Its lightweight build also makes it easy to reposition within a workspace.
  • Cost-Effective Ink Subscription: The one-year free ink offer is highly appreciated by users who print frequently. “HP+ saved me so much money on ink, and it’s delivered before I even run out,” said a satisfied customer. This feature has been particularly beneficial for those managing high-volume printing needs.
  • Reliable Connectivity: Users have praised the printer’s seamless integration with Wi-Fi, enabling effortless printing from multiple devices. “I can print directly from my phone or tablet without any hassle,” one reviewer mentioned.

CONS

  • Setup Challenges: Some customers found the setup process cumbersome, particularly for connecting to Wi-Fi and using the app. “It took several attempts to get the printer online,” one user remarked. Others noted that additional guidance for advanced features would have been helpful.
  • Noisy Operation: A few users complained about the noise levels during operation, describing it as disruptive. “The printer clicks and clacks excessively while printing,” a customer shared. This was especially noticeable during high-volume print jobs.
  • Error Messages: Several reviewers reported encountering error codes and malfunctions, especially when printing from mobile devices. “I keep getting critical error messages, and it’s frustrating,” said one user. Software updates occasionally failed to resolve these issues.
  • Small Ink Cartridges: The size of the ink cartridges has been a point of contention for some. “The cartridges run out quickly, and larger sizes aren’t available,” noted one reviewer. This limitation has led some users to rely heavily on the ink subscription service.
  • Build Quality Concerns: A few users mentioned issues with the paper tray and other components. “The paper tray feels flimsy and doesn’t hold paper snugly,” one customer explained. Others found the design of the output tray inconvenient for frequent use.
  • Paper Jams: A handful of customers experienced paper jams during operation, particularly when using heavier paper types. “The printer struggles with cardstock and photo paper,” one reviewer pointed out.

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DON’T GO WITH HP

Purchased HP OfficeJet Pro 8139e in order to print remote. Have always owned Canon but thought I would give HP a try. WRONG. I was unable to set the printer up on my own. Went to HP website and went through troubleshooting unsuccessfully. Called support line and of course on hold for over hour. Finally got with technician. She was helpful but had me unplugging all connections. Even computer to router. After several attempts, she finally took over my computer remotely and turned off all of my antivirus. Another hour or so and she finally said it would print from computer, but HP Smart would not work remotely while antivirus was on…who doesn’t run antivirus these days??? Anyway, we gave up and I can only print from computer. Problem now is the Wi-Fi not working from computer, I assume from disconnecting all the wires. OMG. So, after printing a couple of documents, I find that print quality is POOR. I am trying now to reconnect by old printer and return this junk. Will NOT replace with HP this time!

Not just plug n print…

After weeks of trial and error I thought I got it squared away…I just need a home printer that can print and scan, but this has been a nightmare. Id like to just connect through ethernet, but it doesnt work for printing from my cell phone if I do…and everything I print has to go through HP print, so it has to travel around the internet world to get to my printer, and I have fast internet, but it still takes forever to print. And lest we not forget the critical error message I keep getting…not sure if i picked a good printer…print quality is good, but finding the printer cartridges is a hassle, unless of course you want to commit to HPs printer cartridges program, which I dont…so not happy with the installation and after several months, still running into issues…especially printing stuff from my phone…

HP Great product

this is my 2nd HPSmart. the first one lasted years until I bought a new laptop and the driver wouldn’t update to manage all the features on the HP Smart app. I bought this one and very pleased with HP. Easy step by step installation with accurate instructions. You don’t have to guess. Make sure that you read the operating system your printer support before you purchase. That can make a huge difference. The installation allowed me to use the replacement of the previous HP 3830 free plan with this one. I’ve faxed and printed so far. I will never by another brand of printers. I tried an Epson before I bought this one and quickly gave it away, and found this one.

Auto refill misrepresentation.

Everything about this product is as promised but then they slid the auto in refill in which has previously charge for monthly refill orders that never we shipped but billed for.

Ink cartriges are terrible!

Would not buy again. Ink cartriges are just awful. Messy to install. No XL cartriges available. In less that two weeks original catriges running dry. Not HP’s finest product.

Not easy to set up. . . .still not working

Writing this review in frustration. . . .I have worked for two days now trying to get this set up to be able to print from my phone without luck and now it won’t print from the computer either. I keep getting messages on phone saying printer blocked. I am at wit’s end with this printer! It replaced an HP printer that was hooked up to phone and computer with no problems. . . .just wasn’t printing well so decided it was time to get a new one. DO NOT recommend this one if you are looking for an easy plug and play.

It’s a Wi-Fi printer…

Nice size, not too large, prints like I need it to but sometimes the Wi-Fi connection is a pain. Works extremely well with my iPhone and iPad but I have difficulty on my laptop. No, I don’t want to use the stupid app to print, I have to print tiled documents from Illustrator sometimes and can’t do that with the app.

Easy to install and use (even for a 77 yr old)

I was able to install and use this new Pinter in about 25 minutes. Beautiful prints and copies.

Home Office

I took a little getting used to this unit after using my 8600 which was more a business unit. After learning how to apply HP smart everything worked out fine helping me scan to computer. I just took a little time getting used to that. Now everything is working fine I love getting my ink without worrying about ordering.
