Cons
- Connectivity and Setup Challenges: Many customers found the initial setup complicated and time-consuming, often encountering difficulties with wireless connectivity, frequent disconnections, and the printer not being recognized by devices, sometimes requiring multiple reboots or extensive troubleshooting.
- High Ink Costs and Restrictive Policies: A major point of dissatisfaction is the high cost of HP's proprietary ink cartridges and the mandatory nature of the HP Instant Ink subscription, with some users reporting the printer becoming unusable if non-HP ink is detected or the subscription is cancelled.
- Noise and Mechanical Issues: Several reviewers noted the printer is considerably noisy during operation. Other mechanical problems include frequent paper jams, the output tray bending printed pages, and the scanner feeder being unreliable or slow.

- Secondary audience: Families and remote workers printing homework, invoices, or photos who value easy wireless control and compact size.
- Ideal scenarios: Typical uses include home offices printing client files, scanning multi-page contracts, or producing marketing flyers and reports.

Disappointed with HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e printer

I did not get another 9135e in its place. I’ve always liked HP printers, but this printer put me over the edge and I’m now a skeptic when it comes to HP printers, so I switched to another company altogether. My issues with this printer (and these issues were present from day 1 out of the box, brand new) were:
1) HP smart software program is full of glitches and hang-ups. It has to reload or I have to close it out and reload it in order to do a simple scanning of documents.
2) The document feeder on the printer did not work, from day one, right out of the box (brand new). So, I had to manually scan a multi-page document on the scanning screen that I needed to save to my computer. Since the document feeder did not work, both with a single page or with multiple pages, I had to also manually copy my multi-page document using the scanning screen (1 page at a time).
3) The printer would not work while I had my VPN enabled. I called HP and they told me that printers will not work with an enabled VPN, and I would have to use split tunneling. However, I’ve never had an issue with a printer working while VPN is enabled (without using split tunneling). I know this for sure because the printer I bought to replace this one is not an HP and it works fine with my VPN enabled; all functions work fine with VPN enabled.
4) The printer paper tray is better than my last HP printer, but they still need to improve on their paper tray; it doesn’t open smoothly all the time and sometimes sticks or gets hung up on the side edges while trying to open the tray.
5) Initial setup was a little tricky and I had to redo some steps multiple times to get the printer to be displayed on my laptop while I tried to connect to the printer. I ended up having to manually put the information for the printer into the setup spaces since it would sense the printer on its own.Overall, I would not recommend this printer. Sorry.

Full duplex scanning and printing
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.m&m October 26, 2025Review source: AmazonI really didn’t want to buy another HP inkjet, because I don’t like being coerced into their ink subscription…hence the star deduction. But this was the only lower priced printer I could find that does duplex scanning. I try to keep most of my records digitally, and scanning large, double sided documents without duplex scanning capabilities is way too cumbersome. One great feature on this machine that I love is that it scans both sides of the document in one pass.
One thing I don’t like is that it really encourages you to print via wifi, but often takes really long to send a document to print. Other times, I’ve had to restart the printer to get it to connect. I’ve tried connecting via USB, but that has also required restarts. So the printer hadn’t completely failed, but it can be a hassle.
Print quality seems pretty good. I haven’t done much photo printing yet. My last HP inkjet did not handle photo paper or cardstock well. I haven’t tried either yet on this printer. -

HP OFFICE JET PRO 9135 PRINTER
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product. Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.KarinS October 24, 2025Review source: BestbuyGreat printer as it does everything I need. But it is a little awkward to select the correct paper tray when you want to print photos. When I print documents it should automatically select the lower tray, and when I print photos it should automatically select the upper tray

Not as good as my 10 year old printer
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product. Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Jeff October 21, 2025Review source: BestbuyHad a Brother MFC9330 CDW for 10 years. Worked great for 8, then not as good for last two. Always wanted to clean drums and other error messages. Scanning worked great.
Purchased this HP to replace. Printing is fine, slower than the Brother by far. Scanning documents, especially multipage documents from the HP feeder doesn’t even come close to the Brother printer. Brother is superior by far. The feed to the HP always takes documents in crooked. Brother was always straight. The only reason I didn’t continue using the Brother is that the replacement part/parts to maintain the unit (after 10 years of use) was nearly the price to purchase this HP. Anyway, HP is just ok. Brother was way better.
