Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Ideal Compact Size: The 4-quart capacity is perfect for individuals, couples, or small families, fitting easily on countertops and in cabinets without sacrificing cooking power.
  • Enhanced Safety and Stability: Users appreciate the redesigned steam release switch located away from the vent and the anti-spin pot design that keeps the liner stable while stirring.
  • Versatile Performance: This appliance effectively replaces multiple kitchen tools by functioning as a fast pressure cooker, a reliable slow cooker, and an efficient rice maker.

Cons

  • Lack of Documentation and Accessories: Many reviewers noted the absence of a physical instruction manual or recipe book, and expressed frustration that replacement liners and specific accessories are currently hard to find.
  • Fixed Power Cord: Unlike some other models, the power cord is permanently attached, which several users found less convenient for storage and cleaning.
  • Pot Maintenance Issues: Some customers reported that the stainless steel inner pot stains easily, develops hard water spots, or experiences food sticking, particularly when cooking rice or oatmeal.

  2. Life changing for me!

I was completely intimidated with this when I got it – which is why I held out for so long. It surprised me with how easy it was to use. I made turkey thighs in it last night for dinner (with onion, celery, and red pepper). It tasted like it had slow-cooked all day! Finally I can enjoy these types of meals again. I have to stick to a low-histamine diet which has limited me. I now see soups and pot roast and all the things in my future. It was so easy to use and the clean-up was a breeze. The instructions were easy to follow and it made just the right amount of food for my husband and me. I appreciate that it is stainless steel and not non-stick as I try to avoid those types of cookware.

  4. Amazing! one gadget replaced 4!

my 4th instapot, and I love this one as much as I like the others. this pot is wider and shallower when compared to the standard IP(see second picture) so, it helps cook rice and distributes heat more evenly. 5 minutes to cook rice is enough.
I also use this to make yogurt/help proof/raise dough.
pressure cook settings are standard, but for that I use my other IP.
would be a very good buy for beginners/small kitchens or dorms

  5. Just right for 2-3 people meals

If you’re already familiar with instant pots, you’ll already know to expect some differences between models. Disregarding the size difference, a few things are noteworthy: 1) The interface is a little less complex on this one than other models. For instance, the pressure cooking setting doesn’t have temperature control. So, just set it to pressure cook and away you go. 2) They’ve added an anti-rotate feature for the pot so you can stir things without the pot spinning around inside the unit. I hope they add this feature to all future models. It’s just some silicone/rubber nubs that make contact with the pot when it is inserted. It’s simple and effective. 3) The power cord is permanently affixed to the unit and at least for the US version, is just a 2 prong plug (and just by the way, that’s all it needs. It draws less power than the bigger models).

My wife has a big family so we have an 8qt instant pot duo crisp model that gets a work out for family events. One of my kids has a 6qt duo crisp. Both are just too big for 2-3 person meals. This Rio Mini is exactly right. I’ve only had it for a few days, but I’ve done all of the things I normally do with an instant pot and it performs exactly as I’d hope. I made a chicken meal from frozen to plated in under 30 minutes. I’ve done baked potatoes. I cooked rice (and by the way, the rice cooker feature is missing from our huge duo crisp model – you can do it, but it isn’t as simple. This one is dead simple.). And, last night I did a more complex Bolognese/Penne pasta meal that turned out exactly as expected. I have no complaints about this model what so ever.

I picked black because I don’t care about matching any decor. It was easy to find it a home in my limited counter space. I ordered a silicone and a glass lid for the 6qt size and they fit this one perfectly. I have no idea if the silicone rings are interchangeable though. I like to keep a couple of seal rings to avoid flavor transfer after doing something heavy on onion or garlic and then doing something sweet or bland. Also, I’ll be looking forward to when they offer spare pots for this one. It’s nice to be able to make a main course, put a silicone lid on it, and then swap pots to make a side or a desert without having to empty and clean the first pot.

This device is going to get a lot of use. The only thing that stops me from using our 8qt model more often and for more things is the size because there are often only two or three of us home to feed most days.

  6. My first pressure cooker impresses

    C. O. September 11, 2025
    Review source: Amazon

This cooker is very versatile and rather easy to use. We got it almost exclusively for cooking rice, but I am sure well use it for many different things as we get comfortable with it. The pressure really seems to improve/reduce cook times and more evenly heats the food. We are excited to try the searing function and cook a whole meal in here. The size is good for 2 to 3 people, so you may want a larger version if you have a big family. If we encounter issues during continued use, I will certainly update the review to reflect it. As for now, considering price, I highly recommend.

  7. Easy to use once you know what you’re doing

I love this. It goes with my pink theme and easy to use once you realize how much time and temperature you should use with things you make. This was a good investment for me. I don’t have to make big meals so this is perfect for small meals or meal prep.

  8. works as expected

I’ve been using this 4-quart Instant Pot for about a week now, and I’m already wondering why I didn’t get one of these smaller ones sooner. When it arrived, it was packed well and felt solid right out of the box. The size is what stood out first—it’s compact enough to leave out on the counter without taking up too much space, but still big enough to handle meals for a few people.

I’ve used it so far for rice, some pressure-cooked veggies, and a simple stew, and it’s handled everything without a problem. The controls are simple to figure out, even if you’re not super familiar with pressure cookers. The sauté function heats up pretty quickly, and the inner pot has a smooth finish that makes cleanup easy. The lid also seals securely, and I haven’t had any issues with steam release or the pressure build-up taking too long.

It’s a good size for small households or if you’re just cooking smaller portions. The build feels sturdy, and it hasn’t overheated or glitched during any of the uses so far. I haven’t tried the yogurt setting yet, but everything else has been working as expected.

Overall, it’s been convenient, and I’ve already found myself reaching for it more than I thought I would.

  9. Seven cooking features so you can replace so many appliances with this

    ForgetParis September 11, 2025
    Review source: Amazon

This Instant Pot is pretty amazing. The product description says mini, but it’s not small at all. It’s big enough to cook for a family of four and it has so many features that it can pretty much replace a whole lot of other kitchen appliances, making it perfect for a small kitchen.

I already had a brand pressure cooker that was pricey when I bought it years ago, but sometimes it just wouldn’t release the lid. I really needed a new one and when I saw all the features in this Rio Mini, I knew it was made for the lazy cook that I am. I will also be getting rid of my old slow cooker now and make more room in my kitchen. Very tempted to get rid of my rice cooker too.

I picked the white to match my other appliances and it looks really sleek and modern. Feels solid and the stainless steel pot is very thick and durable. Definitely easy to clean. A longer cord would have been great, but it’s adequate so far.

The instruction manual has a QR code that takes you to a website with some recipes to try out. If you’re like me and feel there’s never enough hours in a day to get everything done, this little machine makes cooking a meal fast and easy. You can even set a timer. I’m always short on time and energy after a long work day so this little pot feels made for someone like me. It would also be a great gift for someone starting college or just moving out on their own. Great value overall when you think of how versatile and practical this is and how many appliances you can replace, with 7 different cooking features.

  10. Very good pressure cooker in a more compact size

This is the Instant Pot 4 qt RIO 7-in-1 multicooker, in black. I already own two stovetop pressure cookers and three other Instant Pots and I wasn’t sure I needed another, but after using this I’m glad I went ahead and ordered it. This is a really attractive little unit. It definitely gets points for looking better than the more traditional line of Instant Pot multicookers. I primarily just use the saute feature and the pressure cook feature, and that is true of my other three Instant Pots as well…I have so far never used the other features on those either. While this RIO cooker is not perfect, it does have a lot of features I like. The controls are easy to use and straightforward. I like that this one is wide and shallower compared to traditional Instant Pots. They have added rubber bumpers inside the unit that prevent the inner pot from spinning while you are stirring it, which is really helpful. Like other Instant Pots, it cooks very well. It’s a really great size for two people. I made a perfect sized batch of Instant Pot chicken and dumplings…exactly the right amount for two meals for two people. I also have a few dislikes, the first being that the saute feature runs too hot even when you set it to medium or low. However, this is an issue with all Instant Pots, and not just this one. Then there are some dislikes/concerns that are specific to this one, and the reason why I’m not giving it 5 stars. The power cord on this is not a three prong cord, and it doesn’t seem substantial enough. There is no chime on this unit that tells you when the lid has been seated correctly on the pot, and not even a chime to tell you the lid is locked. All my others have chimes for those things. As for the bumpers that keep the inner pot from spinning, rather than doing that they could’ve simply put handles on the inner pot, which is how they corrected the spinning on my 8 qt Pro model. Handles keep the inner pot from spinning and make it so much easier to remove the inner pot from the body. I do have a concern about being able to replace worn parts such as the silicone sealing ring and the inner pot. Hopefully by the time these things are needed. All in all, this is a very useful, versatile, and nice quality multicooker and I would recommend it as long as you are okay with the couple negatives, and the smaller capacity.
