It works but there are significant drawbacks that single system coffeemakers fixed many years ago.
There is no protection against overflow! Without the carafe in place at all or in place properly, it does NOT STOP and goes all over everywhere. There is no pause to get coffee if the pot is brewing.
In this newer version, the basket is particularly deep, and sometimes during the brew process the coffee grounds rise above the filter and end up in the carafe or just dirty the basket and the inside of the coffee maker.
We got it to save space and theoretically be more convenient. I dislike it and feel consumers deserve better quality products.
The only plus is that it does make coffee in the carafe and via pod.
