Users have mixed feelings about the LG UltraGear 27GR93U-B, praising its vivid colors and smooth 4K gameplay but expressing concerns about quality control and reliability issues. Overall satisfaction is high among those with fully functional units, but frequent reports of defects leave some customers disappointed.

Customer Reviews Summary

Users generally view the LG UltraGear 27GR93U-B Gaming Monitor positively, highlighting its impressive 4K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and vivid color accuracy. The monitor is frequently praised for enhancing gaming experiences, particularly for users upgrading from standard HD monitors or TVs. Many gamers appreciate the monitor’s smooth visuals and fast response times, mentioning significant improvements when gaming on consoles like the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC setups equipped with powerful GPUs like the AMD RX 6800.

Despite its gaming-centric appeal, users also find it highly suitable for professional work setups, noting that text clarity and color accuracy are excellent for productivity tasks. Users frequently mentioned that the monitor’s colors and sharpness make everyday computing tasks, video conferencing, and multimedia consumption enjoyable.

However, a notable portion of users experienced concerning quality-control issues. Reports of dead pixels, horizontal and vertical line defects, and intermittent screen flickering emerged repeatedly across multiple reviews. These issues appeared shortly after purchase for some customers, and reliability was frequently questioned. For example, one user noted, “Monitor glitches out after two months of use,” while another described it as “great until it randomly stopped working.”

Many praised the overall performance but expressed disappointment that such issues occurred in a product priced significantly higher than entry-level monitors. For those whose units were defect-free, the monitor delivered outstanding visuals and gaming experiences, making it a favorite among casual and serious gamers alike.

✅ What Are the Advantages of This Product?

  • Stunning 4K Resolution: Users repeatedly praised the monitor’s 4K UHD (3840×2160) resolution, emphasizing its crystal-clear detail and immersive visuals. Whether gaming or watching movies, the high resolution dramatically enhances the user experience. One user remarked, “The graphics are phenomenal, and the frame rates are amazing—it’s a huge step up from my old monitor.”
  • Fast and Smooth Performance: Users highlighted the monitor’s impressive 144Hz refresh rate and fast response times, ideal for gaming and fast-moving content. Gamers appreciated the fluidity and seamless experience, with a user saying, “Playing at 120fps games looks absolutely fantastic, especially on consoles like PS5.”
  • Easy Setup and Versatile Connectivity: Multiple users praised the monitor’s simplicity of setup and the convenient availability of multiple connectivity options, including HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort. These connections make it perfect for both PC and console gaming setups. “Connecting to my PS5 and laptop was effortless, and performance has been consistently excellent,” noted one satisfied customer.

❌ What Are the Disadvantages of This Product?

  • Frequent Screen Defects: Several customers reported issues such as dead pixels, flickering screens, and blackouts, leading to dissatisfaction and returns. Such problems appear more common than expected, causing frustration and raising concerns about LG’s quality control. One frustrated user said, “It had lines through the display after 24 days of ownership—completely unacceptable.”
  • Fan Noise: A recurring complaint among sensitive users is the noticeable fan noise from the monitor. Some describe it as distracting, particularly in quiet environments or when using open-back headphones. As one reviewer put it, “The fan noise is annoyingly loud, especially noticeable between songs or during quiet moments.”
  • Subpar HDR Performance: Despite supporting HDR, several users mentioned disappointment with its implementation. The monitor’s HDR mode is criticized as “too dark” and difficult to calibrate, with multiple customers noting that it fails to deliver a true HDR experience. One user shared, “I couldn’t calibrate HDR properly; the picture ends up too dark.”

🔄 How Has This Product Improved?

The LG UltraGear 27GR93U-B has notably improved in providing higher refresh rates and better color accuracy than earlier models. Users upgrading from older monitors praised the monitor’s 4K clarity and 144Hz capabilities, describing it as a significant upgrade over previous 1080p displays.

⚖️ How Does This Product Compare to Other Options?

Users often compare the LG 27GR93U-B to competitors like the Gigabyte M27U and Samsung Odyssey G7. The LG model typically stands out for superior color accuracy, sharper visuals, and a better overall experience at similar or even slightly higher price points. However, it falls short in HDR quality compared to premium OLED alternatives.

🎯 Is This Product Right for You?

The LG UltraGear 27GR93U-B is ideal for gamers who prioritize 4K visuals, rapid response times, and a high refresh rate without the steep price of OLED screens. It also suits professionals who require crisp text and accurate colors for productivity tasks like design, photo editing, or video conferencing.

🎮 What Are Real Users Saying?

Real users appreciate its vibrant color performance and fluid gaming visuals, especially for console gaming on devices like the PS5 or Xbox Series X. However, frequent reports of early defects and screen issues significantly impacted the user experience, with some recommending caution before purchasing.

⚠️ What Are the Most Common Problems?

  • Screen Defects: Dead pixels and horizontal lines appear frequently.
  • Random Flickering and Blackouts: Some units suffer intermittent flickering or brief blackouts during use.
  • Fan Noise: Audible fan noise is a common frustration among users sensitive to sound.

🔧 How to Fix Common Issues?

  • Dead Pixels: If your monitor arrives with dead pixels, promptly request an exchange from the retailer. Many users who received replacements reported improved experiences.
  • Screen Flicker: Users experiencing flicker suggest trying different DisplayPort or HDMI cables and ports, or adjusting refresh rate settings via the monitor’s OSD.
  • Fan Noise: Unfortunately, there’s limited user success in quieting the fan; consider placement away from direct earshot or opting for closed-back headphones to mitigate noise.

💡 How Can You Get the Best Experience with This Product?

To maximize your experience:

  • Ensure your graphics card supports HDMI 2.1 to fully benefit from the 144Hz refresh rate at 4K.
  • Use a high-quality HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 cable to avoid compatibility issues and reduce the chance of flicker or connectivity issues.
  • Calibrate colors and brightness settings via the monitor’s built-in menu to fit your personal preference, as factory settings may not suit all users.

🏗️ How Durable Is This Product?

Although the monitor feels solidly constructed, durability concerns arose due to multiple reports of hardware failures within a few months of usage, such as dead pixels and screen flickering. Users recommend purchasing from a retailer with strong customer support and an extended warranty option.

☎️ Customer Support & Warranty

LG’s customer service receives mixed reviews. Users experiencing defects shortly after purchase found the warranty claim process cumbersome and slow. However, some users praised individual customer support interactions for being helpful and understanding, despite slow resolution times.

🤔 Is This Product Worth It?

The LG UltraGear 27GR93U-B offers excellent value for those who receive defect-free units, with stunning visuals, solid performance, and versatile connectivity. However, frequent reports of early defects and poor quality control raise concerns, making an extended warranty highly recommended.

Best screen for simulating emergency broadcasting

You too could wait two weeks to finally have a day to open all your new gaming things, get your system wired up, cable managed, and everything absolutely perfect just to play RGB emulator with your screen haha!

Anyways I plugged this thing in and it was the most amazing quality for about two seconds, I saw a crazy forest on my windows startup screen and all of a sudden my screen started fading and looking blurry, lines overcame the screen and soon (within twenty seconds of turning it on) this is what I was left with.

Very upset, option of replacement wasn’t even there just a refund or a gift card. What will I do without my 4k.

This is the equivalent of….. Dare I say…..

Taking an arrow to the knee.

Oh if you read this you lost the game btw.

Great monitor with some drawbacks

I used this monitor weeks before deciding to return it. While there were some positive aspects of this monitor, the negative issues outweighed the benefits for me.
Good:
1. Monitor had good picture quality right out of the box, with clear and sharp images. I didn’t spend much time calibrating it, which was a nice surprise.
2. High Refresh Rate: The monitor’s high refresh rate worked flawlessly, even on my MacBook Pro running macOS. It was perfect for dual setup, as I could easily switch between my Mac and Windows PC and enjoy 144hz.

Bad:
1. Dead Red Pixel: Unfortunately, my monitor had a dead red pixel right out of the box. This was disappointing, as it was noticeable especially when using it at night.
2. Bad On-Screen Controls: The on-screen controls were clunky and difficult to navigate. The monitor’s software didn’t allow me to change the controls nor create a profile for different use scenarios, which was frustrating.
3. No low blue light settings: The monitor did not have any built-in low blue light settings, which was a major drawback for me. I appreciate having this feature when using it closer to bedtime.

Due to the combination of these issues, I decided to return the monitor. While the picture quality and high refresh rate were impressive, the other problems made it difficult for me to enjoy using the monitor on daily basis. I would suggest that the manufacturer improve their quality control, adding low blue light settings and make user to be able to change on-screen controls as well as creating profiles. If you are using this monitor only for PC gaming and not changing settings frequently, this monitor would be great for you.
Overall 3.5/5

It has a fan

This monitor still has uniformity issues. Next to my 2015 and 2016 monitors that don’t have this problem it’s quite obvious. But not nearly as bad as other monitors I’ve bought recently and had to return. The screen is darker around the left and more noticeably right edges. Something I’m willing to live with since no one seems to make monitors that don’t have this problem anymore.

The biggest surprise was that this monitor has a fan. If you have open back headphones, you will hear it, quite loud, between songs. If you’re sitting in silence, you’ll hear it, even over the fans from your gaming PC and air purifier. I’d gladly have paid an extra $30 for them to stick a huge chunk of metal on the back as a heatsink and forgo the fan.

As a monitor: It’s good. Looks nice. For desktop usage I set it to 175% and everything looks good, and the same size as things do on my 24″ UHD monitor that’s at 200%. For gaming: I got 1st place in an online matchmaking session.

I haven’t decided if I’ll return yet. There was nothing on the amazon page indicating that there is a fan.

Edit: turns out mine was defective causing the fan to often run at full speed no matter what. Perhaps another sample would fix this.

Broke itself 2 days after warranty.

Bought this on November 24th, 2023. Writing this a year and two days later, on November 26th, 2024. Looked and worked great out of the box until this morning, when all of the sudden I booted up my PC to find a 3-inch wide section of the screen was covered in multicolored vertical lines. Did all the troubleshooting with no positive results and noticed the error was also present on the “no signal” screen so I contacted support. It’s an issue with the monitor. Mind you, this thing has been sat in the same spot on my desk since I set it up. The box was undamaged when it arrived, it was securely packaged, and I haven’t tossed it around or anything. This is a construction issue, likely some kind of faulty connection somewhere that just happened to give out at exactly the same time as the warranty.

To her credit, the customer service agent I connected with was very helpful and understanding, and said she’d speak to her supervisor about this since it’s so close to the warranty. I’ll update this if I hear back on that end. Without the warranty, though, repair’ll be $350 (and assuming that’s not including shipping, it might as well be the full cost of a new monitor). *Absolutely the hell not*. At that price it’s cheaper and less hassle just to get another monitor so even if it breaks in a year like this piece of junk it won’t sting as much.

Tl;dr: great monitor if you only need a monitor for exactly one year and/or love extortionate repair costs! lovely customer service but that doesn’t really fix the hardware issues. look elsewhere.

Good UHD Monitor when it works

I purchased the 27 inch GR93U-B monitor from LG. Within the first 3 weeks, it developed a cluster of dead pixels (see pictures) and two white lines (vertical and horizontal). LG refused to return / replace. I wish I bought it from a reseller. This monitor must have a QA issue so I highly recommend you don’t buy from LG to extend your return window beyond 15 days.

LG’s customer support is terrible – including their presidential liaison. Multiple calls to get an RMA. No cross shipping options are available; you are down while you wait for the repair. They cover shipping but they use ground for the return. I received the repaired monitor by FedEx only to find out they didn’t repair it fully and I had a new white line across the screen. I had to ship it back – they refused to replace again. The 2nd repair held up for about 2 weeks before an area of the screen started to show some electrical noise which went away after a computer power down. Hopefully just a video card memory glitch but I don’t trust the unit.

I cannot recommend this model. This was not my first LG monitor purchase but it is very likely my last based on their quality and customer service.

Excellent monitor, weirdly short power cable

This monitor has excellent image quality and supports all the new gamer features that I want. Overall I am very happy with it. One odd issue is that the monitor doesn’t use the same type of power cable I’ve had with every other monitor I have used, but rather a small nonstandard plug. The cable it comes with is pretty short. If you don’t have a direct path to an outlet right underneath where you put this, you will need an extension cord.

Great monitor with fantastic refresh rate

Ordered this monitor to upgrade from a different 27 inch monitor. This monitor is fantastic, colors are fantastic, refresh rate is fast, black is black, and the clarity is amazing. This monitor makes gaming with the RTX 4060 video card in my computer seem almost real.

Overall, this monitor is fantastic and a huge upgrade for me.

Look At The Other Reviews

This monitor was great…. until it wasn’t. I never leave reviews on products, but considering the level of investment you’re probably about to make in a 4K monitor, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!

The picture is clear and having 144hz is game changing. Not even 8 months into use, and the monitor starts flickering randomly. Then one day just completely gives out and does not work with any other HMDI or DP cables I try, and shows just horizontal lines across the entire screen.

Don’t try to even use the warranty, you’re better off just getting a new monitor than waiting for any response from LG or any sort of guidance. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MONITOR!!!
