Beautiful OLED screen!

I’m loving this monitor so far! The 27″ form factor is perfect for my 40″ desk. The colors are bright and vibrant despite having a matte coating. I actually prefer having matte to reduce glare (got a window right behind me). I can’t comment on the stand that came with the monitor though because I mounted it on my own stand right away, which saves a lot of desk space.

I love the RGB lighting on the back!! It produces a soft glow around the monitor that looks very nice in a dimly lit room (as seen in my photo). I was planning on getting LED strip lights but feel like that’s not necessary anymore.

One common complaint I see is about “text fringing” due to the new subpixel layout on 27″ OLEDs in general, not just LG. I was so worried about it that I got an LCD monitor before this one. I ended up returning it because I didn’t like the display (washed out colors) and took a chance on the OLED. I’m glad I did because the text fringing is barely an issue for me. Yes, I can see it if I sit up reeaaaalllly close to the monitor or if the text is tiny. From a normal viewing distance, it doesn’t impact me at all. Things like reading web pages and documents and chatting in MMO games are all perfectly fine to me.

There’s some vertical banding, but it’s only present on a gray background. In normal content/usage I don’t see it. Most OLEDs have it to some degree, so I don’t really mind.

LG now offers a 2-year warranty for screen burn-in (info is on their website). That gives me a peace of mind if I see burn-in anytime soon.

Overall, I recommend trying out this monitor if you’re thinking about it! Gaming and watching movies on it has been a delight.

A huge improvement over the 27GR95QE-B.

The brightness has been almost doubled in some cases. SDR brightness potential has improved by over 50% which in this case is over 100nits brighter.

I have a colorimeter in which I could do a hardware based calibration. With a 10% window the GR model achieved 209 nits where as the new GS model achieved 326 nits.

In HDR, some other person measured 1185 nits in a 2% window. Here the GR model only measured around 600 nits. Some a little over & some a little under at this 2% window size.

Colors still look fantastic. Every bit as good as the GR model. This is true in both SRGB mode for desktop & gamer 1 for HDR movies & such. These are the 2 best modes. They just so happen to also be the 2 brightest modes unlike the older GR model. Here the 2 brightest modes don’t suffer any blue push & deliver very much of the artist intent unlike the brightest modes on the GR model.

SDR modes don’t have any Automatic brightness limits at least as far as running on the low or off peak brightness settings with a full white screen. On the high peak brightness setting, you may not notice any ABL activity but if you change it to the low peak brightness it become obvious that there is some limiting going on. You actually have to change the setting to notice this though so you will not likely notice in real usage. There is no ABL activity at all in low or off peak brightness settings.

Some people like gamer 2 I have read elsewhere due to the extra color saturation. Colors pop more in gamer 2. There is a slight blue push though in gamer 2. I don’t recommend anyone use Vivid or HDR Effect. This is not real HDR & it looks horrible.

All in all it is most definately a worthy update & I wholeheartedly recommend it. Thank you.

I wanted to like this monitor

I always wanted to get an OLED monitor and once I saw that LG came out with a new model that was on sale at the time I went for it. The first one came with a big dent and crack from shipping, Amazon took full responsibility for that from shipping and offered to replace it. The first one had a few gray bars that were on the screen, I did some research into it, and apparently, it’s called OLED banding. I got a replacement unit sent for the last one due to the dent/crack and banding on the screen. The new one came with no dents or cracks but it has a problem with flickering and had A LOT of banding on it. I was hoping that the 2nd one would be much better than the first but I was disappointed when it showed up with those problems. Lucky Amazon took care of the problems and they are letting me send back both of the broken monitors for a full refund. Besides the banding and flickering the display looks AMAZING I love how all the colors pop and how the blacks on the monitor are truly black it would have been an amazing movie-watching/gaming monitor if I got one with no problems. Hopefully, in the future, LG will have better quality control on this monitor because I’d love to get one in working order.

Very nice monitor

Do not buy the wrong monitor! The ASUS version of this (PG27AQDM) only supports HDMI 2.0. If you have no intent of streaming and just intend to use display port, that is fine, but if you intend on using a capture card at all then you NEED HDMI 2.1 to support the resolution and frame rate this guy pumps out.

It is not a perfect monitor, the matte finish is not as preferable as a glossy finish for most people (I prefer matte as I play in a well lit area) and the text clarity is not as good as you would expect from a comparable LCD (barely perceptible difference imho) but if either of these bother you wait till the end of the year for updated versions that address these issues.

All in all very happy so far, if anything goes wonky I’ll come back to edit the review.

I’ve never had an OLED screen whether it be a TV or monitor and i’m glad i got this. I moved from a 21:9 3440x1440p to this and i have zero regrets. Out of the box the colors were really good but i adjusted the brightness a bit, that is all.

Absolutely gorgeous display, I am going to buy a 2nd one. Would give 10 stars if i could.

g-sync works great with new games but not league of legends

I have computer eye syndrome and knew OLED is better for eyes and I don’t suffer eye strain over 12 hours straight playing. YES, OLED penal is better than my old IPS panel for long exposure to the monitor. Moreover, the color and the contrast are more accurate and beautiful if you try OLED videos on YouTube. Unfortunately, the flickering issue happens on League of Legends while other newer games are fine. but I mostly play league, so I’m returning this and will wait for next year’s model.
