Summary of Customer Reviews

The LG OLED evo C4 Series 4K Smart webOS TV (2024) has generated significant buzz among consumers, earning high praise for its exceptional picture quality, vibrant colors, and advanced technology. Reviews frequently highlight the TV’s ability to deliver deep blacks and sharp contrasts, which are hallmarks of OLED technology. Many users report being impressed by the TV’s performance in various environments, particularly in well-lit rooms, which have traditionally been challenging for OLED displays. The C4 Series effectively balances premium image quality with smart functionality, though some users have encountered minor inconveniences related to setup and software.

On the positive side, customers love the crispness and brightness of the picture, with many stating that it’s perfect for watching movies, sports, and gaming. The integration of cutting-edge features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos enhances the immersive experience, while the slim, sleek design adds an element of sophistication to any living room. Gamers are particularly enthusiastic about this model, praising its low input lag, 120Hz refresh rate, and compatibility with NVIDIA G-SYNC.

However, the TV isn’t without its flaws. Several customers have reported issues with the smart interface, pre-installed apps, and the design of the remote control. The setup process has also drawn criticism for being unnecessarily complex, particularly with the myriad permissions and configurations required to optimize the TV’s settings. Despite these drawbacks, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with most users agreeing that the LG OLED evo C4 Series is a worthy investment for those seeking a high-quality, feature-rich television.

PROS

  • Picture Quality: The TV’s OLED panel delivers stunning visuals, characterized by deep blacks, rich colors, and sharp contrasts. The 4K resolution ensures crystal-clear image quality, making it a popular choice for watching movies, sports, and high-definition content. One user noted, “The colors are so bright and crisp, it’s like looking through a window”. Another added, “The clarity of the picture is unmatched—it brings out details I never noticed before”.
  • Brightness Performance in Well-Lit Rooms: Unlike older OLED models, which struggled in brightly lit rooms, the C4 Series has improved brightness levels, making it suitable for a variety of lighting conditions. This is particularly beneficial for users with living spaces that have a lot of natural light. As one reviewer mentioned, “I have a very bright living room with skylights, and the TV still looks amazing”.
  • Gaming Features: Gamers rave about the TV’s performance, thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate, low input lag, and support for features like VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and NVIDIA G-SYNC. These capabilities make it an ideal choice for next-gen gaming consoles, providing smooth, responsive gameplay. A user commented, “This TV is fantastic for gaming—it handles fast-paced action without any motion blur, and the colors are incredibly vibrant”.
  • Design and Build Quality: The slim, modern design of the TV is a highlight for many customers. It fits seamlessly into most living spaces, providing an elegant and minimalist aesthetic. A customer noted, “The build quality is top-notch, and the design is sleek and unobtrusive, which really enhances the look of my living room”. Additionally, the TV’s thin profile and ability to maintain consistent picture quality at different viewing angles are major selling points.
  • Audio Quality: While many users recommend adding a soundbar for a more immersive experience, several have reported that the TV’s built-in speakers are surprisingly good for everyday use. One user remarked, “I was pleasantly surprised by the audio quality—it’s much better than expected, even without external speakers”.
  • Smart Features and Compatibility: The C4 Series comes with built-in smart features like Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and voice control via Alexa and Google Assistant. It also supports a wide range of streaming apps and services, making it easy to access your favorite content. One reviewer said, “The smart features are intuitive and work seamlessly with all my devices. I didn’t even need to buy an Apple TV”.

CONS

  • Complex Setup Process: Several users have expressed frustration with the setup process, citing that it requires multiple permissions and can be confusing, especially for non-tech-savvy individuals. One customer described the experience, saying, “Setting up the TV was more complicated than it needed to be. It asked for a lot of permissions and was a hassle to get everything working properly”. Others mentioned that the instructions provided by LG are insufficient, making it difficult to navigate the initial configuration.
  • Software and Pre-installed Apps: Some customers were disappointed by the TV’s software, particularly the pre-installed apps and occasional spammy pop-ups. “Every time I accidentally brush against one of the pre-installed apps, it starts downloading it, and I have to go back and delete it,” a user complained. Others mentioned that the TV’s software could be smoother, particularly when navigating menus and switching between apps.
  • Remote Control Design: Many users criticized the design of the remote control, describing it as cheap and cumbersome to use. One reviewer stated, “The remote is made from cheap plastic and feels flimsy. The buttons are too low on the remote, making it hard to control”. Despite the TV’s premium quality, the remote seems to be a weak point in the overall package.
  • Price Point: While most customers agree that the TV’s performance justifies the cost, some felt the price was steep, particularly given some of the software and setup issues. One reviewer remarked, “It’s a great TV, but for the price, I expected a smoother user experience, especially with the smart features”.
  • Off-Axis Viewing Issues: A few users noted that when viewing the TV from off-center angles, there is a slight green tint. This is not a widespread complaint, but for those who frequently watch TV from different angles, it can be noticeable. “There’s a slight green cast when viewing from an angle, which is disappointing for such an expensive TV,” one reviewer noted.

Who Should Buy?

The LG OLED evo C4 Series is an ideal choice for individuals who prioritize top-tier picture quality and advanced technology in their home entertainment systems. Movie lovers will appreciate the deep blacks, vibrant colors, and crisp contrast, while gamers will benefit from the TV’s low input lag, high refresh rate, and compatibility with next-gen consoles. The TV is also perfect for users who watch content in well-lit rooms, as the enhanced brightness levels make it suitable for a variety of lighting conditions.

This model is well-suited for tech-savvy users who enjoy tinkering with settings to optimize their viewing experience, as well as those who value having the latest smart features, such as voice control and seamless streaming integration. However, if you’re someone who is easily frustrated by complex setups or dislikes dealing with smart features and pre-installed apps, this TV may require some patience to get fully up and running.

Do Users Recommend This Product?

Most users highly recommend the LG OLED evo C4 Series, citing its superior picture quality, gaming performance, and sleek design as major selling points. Many customers feel that the TV’s features justify its higher price tag, particularly when compared to other models in the market. “This TV is worth every penny. The picture quality is breathtaking, and it’s perfect for both movies and gaming,” one user wrote.

However, there are a few detractors who found the software and setup issues frustrating enough to impact their overall experience. While these issues are not deal-breakers for most, they are worth considering, especially if you value a seamless out-of-the-box experience. One user summed it up well, saying, “The TV is amazing, but the software could use some improvement. If you’re willing to deal with a few quirks, it’s absolutely worth it”.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a high-end OLED TV that excels in both picture and performance, the LG OLED evo C4 Series is a top contender. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve during setup, and you’ll be rewarded with a phenomenal viewing experience.

Great improvement for LG C4

My LG C4 42″ was delivered on time and I was excited to unpack it.

It was easy to attach the two stands and set up the TV because it is very light, 22 pounds.

Turning it on for the first time it asks for multiple permissions and a set up guide runs to help set up inputs and HDMI inputs including Internet settings.

The display is very bright and the Filmmaker mode seems to be the most “native” natural-looking setting for content.

There are multiple AI-guided settings for assistance with dialing in the correct settings for each picture mode, and there is a AI assistant that goes though multiple screens asking which ones appear the best on your TV and shows you the results after.

Hooking up into a PC, the TV recognized the PC output automatically and very little adjustment as needed to make the Dolby Filmmaker Mode to look great.

It can be VERY bright in a dark room. This replaced my older LG CX 48″ TV which was a lot dimmer even in a dark room.

There were no dead pixels and the sound output to Dolby Atmos soundbar works perfectly.

I would buy another one to replace my C8 55″ but I am waiting for prices to drop on a LG G4 55″ instead.

Do Not Buy As A Monitor

Flickering and flashing problems at HD or 4K resolutions even at 30Hz. Can not turn off the auto dim anymore. I sent it back and got Samsung NEO 50″ and Samsung works great at all resolutions and refresh rates I throw at it using the same PC setup. LG has major software problems and I am done with them. I recommend avoiding LG for use as a PC monitor period.

Tried to use it as a computer monitor and it's just too dim

I personally like bright screens. This display has great colors but is just not bright enough. I returned it

Spam and no way to turn off controller apps

The TV itself is great but the inability to turn off the controller apps is so utterly frustrating.

If you even brush the Disney+ or other apps it automatically installs them on your TV and you have to go in and delete them manually every time.

Then you get these occasional spam pop ups when you go to the Home screen

I just want my TV to be a TV, not a bunch of spam and forced apps, we get enough of that from the internet and our cell phones

INCREDIBLY ARDUOUS SETUP

All of my problems with this LG OLED revolved around setting up an account with the manufacturer. I had similar problems with Samsung.
ENOUGH ALREADY! To all manufacturers, just sell the TV without the requirement to set up an account with you. I’ll choose my apps instead of having a entire screen of superfluous choices of apps I don’t want, never heard of and will never use. Same applies with listing all of those movies and events to watch.

THE MORE COMPLEX THE PLUMBING, THE EASIER IT IS TO STUFF UP THE DRAIN!

Unless you by this from a Warehouse, you are getting a crippled product.

Unless you by this from a Warehouse, you are getting a crippled product.
The OLED65C4PUA includes WIFI 5 and a regular magic remote.
HOWEVER, if you buy this from a warehouse club, the model is OLED65C4AUA and you get WIFI 6e and a magic remote with built in NFC.
Last year’s “retail” C3 model also had WIFI 5, while the club models had WIFI 6. They didn’t even bother updating the retail C4 to WIFI 6.
And this also applies to purchases at LG.COM.
Why they would cripple their retail products is beyond me.

Best in class

I love this tv despite two complaints. It’s not the brightest monitor, and text is oddly blurry when used as a PC. LCDs are brighter, but I find this plenty, except when my room is really bright. I’ve tried a lot of workarounds to fix the blurry text, but there are still issues there. Maybe I just need to play with settings more. Text is fine if I don’t think about it.

Other than that, it looks really good. It’s fast and has a lot of features, works well with my pc and rtx graphics card. It has built-in chromecast and many streaming apps ready to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good, but I got an aux cable to connect it to my external speakers.

Buy at your own risk!!!!!

I spent 2,000 on a 65 LG OLED TV for it to go out 15 months after purchase. It just will not turn back on. LG customer support was little to no help. “Unplug it and wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. If that doesn’t work, I guess you’ll have to pay to get it repaired “. I won’t buy another.

Damaged in transit and would not even turn on.

The drivers that delivered this TV noticed that the box had been damaged when they unboxed and tried to plug in the TV would not even start. They took the TV back and a replacement has been ordered. (update) replacement worked for a few hours and then would not turn on again. The replacement also had to be returned.
