Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Dual-Zone Versatility: The independent top and bottom ovens allow users to cook two different dishes at different temperatures and settings at the same time, effectively replacing multiple appliances like toasters and air fryers.
  • Smart Finish Technology: The Smart Finish feature is a major highlight, automatically synchronizing the cooking times of both ovens so that different foods are ready to be served at the exact same moment.
  • Fast Preheating and Cooking: Reviewers frequently note that the unit preheats in just a few minutes and cooks food significantly faster than traditional full-sized ovens, making it highly efficient for daily meal prep.

Cons

  • Difficult to Clean: The interior lacks a non-stick coating, making it tough to scrub, and the downward-opening door design allows crumbs and grease to fall into the hinges and crevices.
  • Inconsistent Toasting: Many users report that the toast and bagel settings are too powerful, often burning the edges of bread or producing 'nuclear' heat even on the lowest shade settings.
  • Bulky Size and Hot Exterior: The appliance takes up substantial counter space and is quite heavy; additionally, the exterior surfaces become dangerously hot during operation, posing a potential burn risk.

  1. Excellent Multi Purpose Tabletop Oven

    Review source: Bestbuy

This is a great multipurpose air fryer/oven/toaster. It cooks quickly and both layers can be operated independently which opens up a lot of flexibility for cooking larger meals. It’s a lot bigger than your standard toaster oven, but the additional functionality more than makes up for that large size.

The package includes the oven, 2 sheet pans, 2 wire racks, an air fry basket, 1 crumb tray, and an integrated thermometer. This oven is quite large compared to a conventional toaster oven, but I was able to fit it under my kitchen cabinets in the place of my toaster without having to move too much around. The power cable is a little over 3 feet long.

The cook functions are navigated via a single knob that rotates and clicks and then additional functions are selected related to time/temp or whatever applies on that particular mode on 2 additional buttons. You can select the top or bottom ovens and set them up independently or simultaneously. The Smart Finish option also lets you set up the cooking so that both ovens finish at the same time. The menus and navigation seemed a little complex at first, but I was pretty dialed in on it after a couple of minutes and it felt intuitive after that.

The top oven is mostly a conventional toaster oven and has variations on bake and toast functions. The baking is not as fast as the bottom oven, but it still works well and preheats quickly. As a toaster it’s fantastic, especially for bagels.

The bottom oven is the larger of the two and has all the air fry functionality. As an air fryer it works great – even better than the Ninja Speedi we have been using. It also works great as a convection oven. We’ve made pizza, brownies, vegetables, and various frozen appetizers on it and they’ve all turned out great.

In the week or we’ve had it and with daily use it’s stayed pretty clean. According to the manual, the sheet pans are hand wash only and hand washing is recommended for the air fry basket. I will say the sheet pans have been through my dishwasher a few times now before I found out they were not dishwasher safe and they seemed to have held up well, but the manual warns that the finish can degrade in the dishwasher, so hand wash it is from here on out.

    Some miscellaneous items:
    – I have not had a chance to try any of the thermometer functionality yet, but I love that it’s built-in and that the oven lets you cook meat to specific ‘doneness’ levels.
    – As the oven ends its cooking cycle, the lights will gently turn on, which is a nice touch.
    – The oven includes a recipe book with 15 different recipes ideas made specifically to utilize both of the ovens.
    – With this oven the fans are on the side and not the back, so it’s something to keep in mind in terms of how you are turning your food if that’s something you need to do.

Overall I’m really happy with this oven. The 2-layer oven system combined with our conventional oven is going to make larger meals a lot simpler to handle. The amount of versatility you get from this oven is great and it replaces both my toaster and my air fryer, so it’s not contributing to my kitchen gadget glut. And being more compact it works so much better in situations where you don’t need a full size oven, which for my household of 2 is most of the time. I’d definitely recommend it.

  2. Great all in one

I love having this. If I had to change something, I would have liked it to be 2 of the same things. I feel like the bottom is more for your oven/air frying needs while the top is more for appetizers, toasting etc. Especially with having a smart finish where you can have both top and bottom finish at same time. That said, it is nice that you can still bake on the top and then air fry on the bottom. So, if you have kids that enjoy nuggets and tater tots, you can set it to cook both and have it finish at the same time.

It is a little on the bigger side for kitchen appliances so you will need to have a spot with room. For me, having this, the biggest advantage is being able to dual cook with it and have things finish at the same time. No more having to start one thing, set a timer and to start something else. This will do that for you.

I enjoy mainly air frying tater tots on the bottom and also doing vegetables on top portion. Or you can also do hot dogs on the top and fries or tots on the bottom.

Overall, it is a great kitchen appliance to have. I also enjoy Ninja products so another great Ninja product.

  3. A Versatile Cooker That Makes it Easy

    TechNinja October 14, 2024
    Review source: Bestbuy

I have cooked a few meals with the new Ninja Double Stack XL with Pro Cook and have enjoyed some unique features that makes this countertop oven very useful.

Countertop space has become increasingly competitive. Nowadays there’s so many kitchen gadgets that buying all of them has become impractical due to storage issues. I have a few Ninja kitchen gadgets, and I love all of them so my expectations were high.

I can’t live without an air fryer at this point, and the air fryer market has become very diverse with an insane number of options. For me, capacity and ease of use are the most important features in an air fryer. This new Ninja air fryer has excellent capacity and a host of features that make it easier to use. The main ease of use features that make this air fryer so cool is the thermometer and the smart finish function.

The thermometer on the air fryer is removable and is held via magnets on the side of the machine. This makes it very easy to store and clean. The thermometer connects into a port on the side, and then you just stick the other end into your protein. I have used it already a couple of times with a pork loin. Pork is nice and juicy at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. So, I setup the air fryer to finish cooking when the pork’s internal temp reaches that magic number. That’s incredibly useful and makes cooking so much easier.

Secondly, the smart finish function adds onto the ease of cooking by synchronizing the cook times of the top and bottom compartments. For example, on the bottom compartment you have some chicken that is going to take 40 minutes to finish. The top compartment is potatoes which only take 25 minutes to finish. Well, the Ninja will begin the potatoes at the perfect time so that both dishes are done at the same time. That’s INCREDIBLE! I love this feature so much.

Something interesting is that the top compartment is more of a conventional oven, it does not air fry. I think this is a good thing. Obviously, Ninja designed this gadget with a clear intention. The top is for roasting sides, the bottom is a versatile cooker for all kinds of larger portions. This makes it clear to me, the user, where to put what into this oven. If I am making a quick desert like cookies? Top oven. Reheating a pizza? Top oven. Cooking a protein or want an extra crispy finish to whatever you are cooking? Bottom oven. It really helps with defining what to cook where.

Overall, I really recommend this Ninja oven. It’s incredibly versatile and has some amazing usability features.

  4. Highly Functional Countertop Oven

    Review source: Amazon

I was initially drawn to the Ninja Double Stack XL Countertop Oven because of its dual oven design, and it has certainly lived up to expectations. The ability to cook two separate dishes simultaneously, each with its own temperature and cooking program, has been incredibly convenient. Just last night, I roasted vegetables in the top oven while baking a chicken in the bottom oven, and both were perfectly cooked at the same time.

The FlexDoor is surprisingly useful for quick meals and snacks. I use the top oven almost daily for toasting bagels or reheating leftovers. The FlavorSeal technology is another highlight – I no longer hesitate to cook different types of food simultaneously, as there’s no lingering odor transfer. The oven’s overall performance has been excellent, and the various cooking programs offer great flexibility for different meals. It’s a bit of an investment, but the Ninja Double Stack XL has quickly become an indispensable appliance in my kitchen.

  5. Love this air fryer wish i had gotten it years ago

I wish i would have gotten one of these way sooner than i did. This air fryer is the most awesome air fryer i have ever used. I love making pizza but i hate that i have to turn on my electric stove and let it heat up for 15 to 20 minutes to get the the proper tempter. With this air fryer it takes literally minutes and its already cooking the pizza and when i make one in the oven the outer crust is always hard as a rock and the center is just warm. Not with this air fryer it evenly heats the pizza across the whole top so it’s evenly cooked and it takes half the time to cook it. So you want to make fish and chips AKA fries well no problem. You can toss your fish of choice in the bottom part of the fryer and your fries in the top part and have them get done at the same time. No more your fish is done well now your cooking your fries and your fish is cold by the time your fries are done. The best part is there is no cross cooking smells. I don’t know how it’s done but it’s like magic that my fries don’t smell or tase like fish. You can cook literally anything you want in this fryer from French fries to a chicken. Also if you have picky eaters in the house no problem you can cook two completely different meals at the same time. This Air fryer makes your food healthier, taste better and cook quicker than your oven ever will.

The Ninja Double Stack XL Countertop Oven & Air Fryer with Pro Cook System is a high-quality product, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. One of the most impressive features is the incredibly fast cook times. It cooks in less than half the time of other quality toaster ovens I’ve used, and sometimes it even takes just a third of the time when it comes to toasting. This has been a huge time-saver, especially on busy weeknights.

The sleek and modern interface is another aspect I appreciate, and it looks great on my countertop. That said, it does come with a bit of a learning curve. The settings aren’t the most intuitive at first, but the instructions are straightforward enough to follow, and I got the hang of it after a few uses. Once I figured it out, I was able to fully enjoy the high-quality results it delivers.

The air fryer function is exceptional. It fries chicken and potatoes to perfection, delivering crispy exteriors and tender interiors with little to no oil. Every dish I’ve made with the air fryer has turned out delicious. The double stack feature is also a standout. With two racks, I essentially have three ovens. I can cook a large main dish in my regular oven, roast a side in the top section of the Ninja, and bake another dish in the bottom. This has made meal prep a breeze, especially when I’m juggling multiple dishes.

Another thing I love about the Ninja Double Stack XL is the timing settings. They are precise and incredibly useful for planning meals, helping me coordinate multiple dishes at once without stress. It’s been a huge help on busy weeknights.

If there’s any downside, it’s that the size of the oven may be a bit large for some countertops. It works fine in my kitchen, but it’s worth considering if you’re short on space. Additionally, as I mentioned before, the settings have a bit of a learning curve, but the instructions make it easy enough to figure out.

Overall, the Ninja Double Stack XL has been a fantastic addition to my kitchen. It’s fast, versatile, and perfect for both quick meals and more involved cooking. The fast cook times and the double stack feature are real game-changers, making it a must-have for anyone looking to upgrade their countertop oven!

  7. A powerful edition to your kitchen

    Review source: Bestbuy

SUMMARY: The Ninja DoubleStack XL Countertop Oven and Air Fryer is a multi-faceted oven that makes you feel like a professional chef when you use it. It not only looks good in your kitchen, but it’s powerful enough that you may find yourself using it more than your primary oven. It’s large enough to cook multiple meals at once and may be particularly useful during the holiday season, which is prime cooking time for most families.

DESIGN & SPECIFICATIONS: The Ninja DoubleStack XL comes in stainless steel, which is always a classy look. It looks very sophisticated, professional and luxe for a countertop oven. It’s 13.26 inches tall, 18.6 inches wide, and it weighs 31.26 pounds. It feels sturdy and well crafted.

Depending on which version of the Ninja DoubleStack XL you have, the countertop oven comes with different accessories. I have the version “DCT650,” so mine comes with two wire racks, two sheet pans, one crumb tray, one air basket, and a pro cook thermometer. By comparison, the “DCT600” version comes with a roast tray instead of the thermometer. It is recommended by Ninja to hand wash all the accessories in warm soapy water, then let air dry. This is to keep the finishes on each item from degrading. Ninja offers a variety of accessories on their website should you need to buy more. It is recommended that you only use Ninja approved cooking accessories with the Ninja DoubleStack XL.

A big feature of the Ninja DoubleStack XL, as the name implies, is that you can cook multiple meals at once due to being able to use the two ovens independently of each other. Ninja calls it “DualZone technology.” This allows you to cook different meals but have them finish at the same time as a way of minimizing back-to-back cooking and lessens time in the kitchen. You can cook two meals in different ways but still have them finish at the same time. All you have to do is make sure you keep in mind how much time each meal needs and cook accordingly; start the meal that needs slightly more time first in the bottom oven (chicken wings, beef roast, whole chicken), then add the second meal to the top oven that needs less time (veggies, fries), and let the oven take care of the rest. There is a manual included that explains this in detail, but Ninja also has videos you can watch to better explain the technology as well as shows the DualZone technology in use.

PROS: The Ninja DoubleStack XL comes with what they call a “Flex door.” This is what allows you to access just the toaster oven part of the oven. It’s a cool way to separate the two ovens. This comes in handy when you are cooking in both ovens at the same time and don’t want to disturb whatever is cooking in the bottom oven.

Speaking of cooking two things at once, a big pro of this oven is that the smells won’t crossover. Ninja uses special technology they call “flavorseal technology” to prevent smells of different types of food from crossing between ovens, so your flavor profiles will stay separate. This means if you want to bake chocolate chip cookies or cinnamon rolls in the top oven while roasting lemon garlic butter chicken in the bottom oven, you can without worrying about your desserts smelling like your garlic chicken.

Another pro is how fast the Ninja DoubleStack XL works. It preheats quickly and finishes meals quickly. I also like how I don’t have to think too much to use it. Let me explain: I like my bagels and bread on the darker side, and the toaster function finished my toast in less than 4 minutes (I think it’s 3:38 to be more exact). The Ninja DoubleStack XL calculated how much time I needed based on my desired darkness (or shade), so I don’t have to guess how much time I need to toast my bread for it to be perfect or set any cooking times on my own. Once it finishes, it turns the oven off for me. You will hear the fan lingering for a few minutes, but that is it.

I like that the Ninja DoubleStack XL comes with a recipe book; specifically, I like that it tells you which oven to cook what type of dish in, what settings to use, and what cooking accessories to use to ensure your meal comes out a success. It’s proper meals too, such as “whole-roasted BBQ chicken with mac & cheese (the mac & cheese goes in the top, and the chicken gets cooked at the bottom), roasted turkey breast with veggies (the turkey is cooked at the bottom, veggies cook up top), and eggplant parmesan with garlic bread (you probably already guessed that the eggplant parmesan cooks at the bottom and the garlic bread cooks up top). The recipe book gives you a better idea how to properly use the Ninja DoubleStack XL to its full potential, and it makes it seem less overwhelming or less intimidating to cook in.

Lastly, at least when using the device in air frying mode, the Ninja DoubleStack XL is only moderately noisy, which is important to me. It cooks much quieter on the toasting mode than it does on the air frying mode. It also doesn’t have that constant ticking sound that most standard toaster ovens have that goes on the entire the device is in use.

CONS: This thing is HUGE! Unless you do not have any other countertop kitchen appliances, or you purchase a special portable countertop/island to sit it on to add counter space, I do not recommend this appliance for people that have small kitchens or limited counter space. I live in an old condo that is an open floor plan concept, and I have a small kitchen. This takes up a large chunk of counter space, but I am okay with it since I plan to use this more than my full-size oven. I do not recommend this for someone that only wants an air fryer or that only wants a toaster. The size (and price) wouldn’t justify purchasing this only for making toasts and bagels. I strongly recommend measuring the area you intend to put this before ordering, or maybe going to see this in store first and measuring the item itself and your kitchen space.

The Ninja DoubleStack XL is also very, very heavy. I live alone and live in a second-level condo, so I had to push/slide this thing up the stairs. If you are elderly or a single woman like me, you might need help getting this into your kitchen. Even on the box it arrived in, it suggests using two people to carry it. This is another reason I suggest checking this item out in person. Just looking at it online and in videos didn’t help me; I mistakenly thought this oven was closer to a traditional toaster oven size. If you’re like me and have zero concept of measurements and dimensions and are a visual person, please check it out in store. Part of the reason this oven is so large is it’s geared towards family meal cooking; it’s for large family meals. If you’re single like me and no someone who often cooks for others, you might not need this specific countertop oven.

The wire racks and sheet pans are not dishwasher safe. While I understand cleaning them by hand will protect them from being damaged, if you hate doing dishes like me, you may find this step cumbersome.

This is probably just irritating to me (keep in mind that I am a non-cooker) but I hate that I can’t use butter or olive oil as a base in this for risk of increasing smoke emitting from the oven. Ninja recommends using avocado oil, canola oil, refined coconut oil, vegetable oil, or grapeseed oil. Granted, these are all easily accessible and I have a few of these of these in my cupboard right now. Still, I prefer cooking a lot with butter, so this will be a hard habit to break.

CONCLUSION: A single person that is not a heavy cooker may not use the Ninja DoubleStack XL to its full potential. I recommend it for a family of four or more. I also recommend it for people like me who eat a lot of toasted foods but are impatient and want to cook their food fast. I also recommend it for single people who have old full-sized ovens that probably need replacing. Using this countertop oven in place of an old full-sized oven will not only be safer, but it will also be more energy-efficient too.

  8. Very nice 2 ovens in 1 body

    Review source: Bestbuy

I am very happy with this Ninja Double Stack XL Countertop Oven and Fryer. It is two ovens stacked on top of each other. The model number is DCT651, it means it comes with the Pro Cook System.
The finish is gorgeous, the display goes totally invisible when power off. The control is very simple, intuitive and smart.
Example, to use the top oven, press the top button and use the dial to select the function. Use the other two buttons to adjust temperature and time and press the dial to start or stop the cooking. If you choose toast, the temperature becomes shade of the bread setting and time becomes how many slides of bread.

The oven is of a good size for me but could be a little big for some.
However, it can still fit under my kitchen cabinet.
The door is designed to open flat with the handle going below the counter top.

It comes with two sheet pans, two wire racks, one air fry basket, crumb tray, recipe book and a guide.

The crumb tray is removable and is for the top oven only. I wish it comes with two because I would like to have a crumb tray at the bottom oven too.

Air fry basket can be placed at the lower slot or upper slot of the bottom oven.

You can open only the top door or open door for top and bottom oven, you cannot open just the bottom oven because it is not a two doors oven.

This is a twelve in one oven and can bake, broil, reheat, keep warm, toast, cook bagel, air fry, convection bake, cook pizza, air roast, cook whole roast, and dehydrate.

To be used as a toaster, it can toast up to 6 slices of bread.

I toasted some bread and they came out well, don’t have to stay there and keep watching to prevent it from over browning.
I also cooked taquito using the air fryer and they came out crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, perfect for me.
You can set different settings, times and temperatures for each oven, so the two compartments truly are separate cooking areas.

It says cooking goes quicker than other oven is and it is true, even pre heating is super quick.

The handle is well designed, other oven might burn your hand when you open the door if you hold it the wrong way but this oven, the top edge of the door is tapered to avoid your hand.

The guide and the pictures on box seem to imply roast tray is included but when I read it carefully, it is a separate purchase. Bummer.

  9. Handle is bulky, make sure you preheat before use

    Review source: Amazon

This took a bit to get the hand of using. There are a lot of buttons and options it learn. The included manual is helpful and has all of the information you need, you just have to actually read it.

I like that you can open the top oven while the bottom remains cooking allowing you to leave bottom oven items undisturbed. Unfortunately you cannot open the bottom while the top remains closed.
It seems like it takes a bit longer then it should for some items to cook.
Although,we cooked a package of cinnamon rolls in 8 minutes, which is great for last minute snacks or breakfast. Haven’t got around to using the temp probe, that’s next on our list.

  10. Ninja Double Stack XL Countertop Oven & Air Fryer

    Customer Reviewer October 13, 2024
    Review source: Amazon

Big, bulky, but worth it. I love my NINJA stuff and this is no exception. I saw this and had to get it since I had a smaller air fryer but I wanted more space to cook in. This is a great idea of having 2 ways to cook things at once. The door system is a bit weird but you will get used to it after a few times of use. The bottom is a fully fledged air fryer but the top (as someone else said) is more of a toaster oven than air fryer. Which is fine for me. Side dish at the top, main dish at the bottom.
