Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Dual-Zone Versatility: The independent top and bottom ovens allow users to cook two different dishes at different temperatures and settings at the same time, effectively replacing multiple appliances like toasters and air fryers.
  • Smart Finish Technology: The Smart Finish feature is a major highlight, automatically synchronizing the cooking times of both ovens so that different foods are ready to be served at the exact same moment.
  • Fast Preheating and Cooking: Reviewers frequently note that the unit preheats in just a few minutes and cooks food significantly faster than traditional full-sized ovens, making it highly efficient for daily meal prep.

Cons

  • Difficult to Clean: The interior lacks a non-stick coating, making it tough to scrub, and the downward-opening door design allows crumbs and grease to fall into the hinges and crevices.
  • Inconsistent Toasting: Many users report that the toast and bagel settings are too powerful, often burning the edges of bread or producing 'nuclear' heat even on the lowest shade settings.
  • Bulky Size and Hot Exterior: The appliance takes up substantial counter space and is quite heavy; additionally, the exterior surfaces become dangerously hot during operation, posing a potential burn risk.

  1. Great cooking options, Synchronized finishing

    Review source: Bestbuy

The Double Stack XL has a large selection of heating options and the versatility of two ovens to use, even at the same time.

    Design
The Double Stack XL has a clean stainless steel look with nice, large windows to see in the two, distinct, ovens. The controls are all on the right side, split top and bottom for the top and bottom oven respectively. The top has one level to put things on, which makes sense due to the space. The bottom has two levels to put things on. The top oven has heating elements on the top and the bottom. The bottom oven has no visible heating elements, and I think relies on the air circulation with vents on the back and right side of the inside of the bottom oven. Both the top and the bottom ovens have a light in the back that illuminates the inside very well – there’s a dedicated light button at the bottom right of the controls. It has a crumb tray for the top oven. There’s no crumb tray for the bottom oven but that oven isn’t for toasting and, because there are no heating elements in it, it’s easy to wipe out if needed. The door splits in an interesting way to accommodate the top and bottom oven. If you just pull the handle, the top and bottom oven are then opened. If you press the button on the handle and then pull the handle, only the top oven opens. This works very well but it does mean that you cannot open the bottom oven without opening the top oven. Since food you would make on the top oven tend to take less time then food in the bottom oven, it’s probably not a big problem. There is a “Smart Finish” button that makes both the top and bottom oven finish at the same time. I think that’s a great feature to have and neat way to take advantage to two separate ovens in one small appliance! The display on the control doesn’t even look like it’s there until you turn it on and use it. Words and numbers appear over/through what looks like stainless steel. I’m not sure how they do that but it looks cool and is easy to read. If you were going to use it in direct sunlight I’m not sure how visible it would be, but I think it makes the Double Stack XL looks more clean. The heating elements in the top oven look like they are designed to distribute heat more evenly, but they also seem like they would be harder to clean over time.

    Controls and Display
The buttons are very easy to read and press. You start with the “Top” or “Bottom” button to turn on the respective oven controls. There’s a nice, large, dial at the bottom to select the cook mode. Press on the dial to select. Press a button for “Cook”, “”Time”, “Shade”, or “Slices” and then use the same dial adjust cook time or temperature. As mentioned above, you can use the “Smart Finish” button to synchronize the top and bottom ovens so that they both finish at the same time. I really like the way the controls are easy to use and the way you don’t even see the display until you turn it on but the display is easy to read when it’s on. When you have an item in each oven you will see both cook times. You can also adjust temperature or time while things are already being cooked. As mentioned above, there is a dedicated light button at the bottom right of the controls which works very well to illuminate both the top and bottom ovens. I included a picture where I’m baking a frozen pizza in the top oven and air frying French Fries in the bottom oven.

    Features
    The following items are included:
    – 2 wire racks
    – 2 sheet pans
    – 1 air fry basket
    – 1 crumb tray
    – Temperature probe and holder
The biggest features of this oven for me is somewhat obvious but important – the way that in a relatively small kitchen appliance you can heat two completely different things in two totally different ways at the same time, even using “Smart Finish” to end them at the same time, if you want. I listed the temperature probe and holder because I do love this! A holder is included that you wrap the probe around, and it’s magnetic, so you can stick the holder on either the left or right side or the top, wherever it fits and is convenient. I like having accessories and places to store them. I have a picture of it on the side of my Double Stack XL.

    Baking, Toasting, Air Frying
I’ve been very happy with the results of things I tested this toaster oven with. From baking cookies to air frying a frozen, deep-dish pizza, the Double Stack XL gives lots of great heating options and produces very good results. I dumped a whole bag of frozen French fries in the air fryer tray and made them in the bottom oven while making a thin, pepperoni, frozen pizza in the top oven. Even with them dumped in they were loose enough and the tray allowed for enough air flow that the fries got done very well. None were burnt and they got toasted nicely. A few here and there that were in clumps didn’t get fried the same way but they weren’t cold. Excellent results for the air fryer! I like having such a large air fry tray to spread things around in, that’s what allowed so many fries to get done so well. They seemed to be done evenly too in the tray. I also tried making a thin crust frozen pizza in the bottom oven. That seemed to get done more in the back left and front right. It was good and heated through but it would have been good to turn it half way. I made the same kind of thin frozen pizza in the top oven (recommended in the manual for frozen pizza) and that heated very well, and a bit more evenly I think. I tried a think crust frozen pizza in the bottom oven and that was definitely done more in the back. Rotating it half way would have been a good idea. It got very hot through, even though I had it on one of the included trays and not directly on a rack. I had it on the second level, 350 degrees, for 32 minutes. The box said 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. I think if I rotated it half way and did it for 30 minutes it would have been perfect. It was still really good! The cheese in the back was just dark. The first thing I made was a bagel. I used the “Bagel” mode and then got distracted. I didn’t even watch and the default setting was “4”, which was too long, and it started smoking and got mostly black. After that, I made another bagel with the “Bagel” setting but set it on “2” instead of the default “shade” setting of “4” and it was heated well. So think it’s fine as a toaster but just be aware that the default setting, if you do not change it, may burn your toast or bagel.

    Pictures
I’ve included four pictures. One showing a thin frozen pizza baking in the top oven while I’m air frying French fries on the bottom oven. One picture shows chocolate chip oatmeal cookies (fairly large ones) in the oven and another picture with the cookies when they were done – and very good. There is also the picture I mentioned above of the thermostat on the side of the Double Stack XL. Two of the pictures can give you a good idea of the lighting in the ovens as well.

    Summary
I think the Double Stack XL is a feature rich toaster oven/air fryer/counter top oven. I was very happy with the results in general, but some things, like pizza, I would rotate half way through. The versatility of the different cook modes, and two ovens that can be used at the same time, add a lot of value and make this a great kitchen appliance!

  2. Awesome appliance! Great for a family!

It’s hard to know where to start with this double oven/air fryer just because it’s such a great appliance for our family. From air frying wings to mini pizzas to cookies, etc. etc. we’re always needing to have an oven going. The difficult part for us is getting our full size oven up to temp while using a fraction of its actual cooking space is kind of a pain. Often, we just need a small item or a few items cooked and don’t need a full size oven. Thankfully, this oven is PERFECT for our needs.

The ability to have two separate ovens doing two separate things is amazing. We can be baking cookies for dessert while we’re frying wings on the bottom. The unit comes up to temp quickly and cooks very evenly, especially in the bottom oven that has convection capability. The included digital thermometer is fantastic if you need to dial in temps or make sure you get the perfect doneness on your food. The unit itself seems very well made and all of the included sheets and racks are top quality and clean up well in the dishwasher. It’s simple enough that our kids can use it while being capable enough to cook some amazing meals.

The unit looks incredible on the counter especially with its “hidden” display. When the display is off, there’s nothing but brushed stainless steel which gives it a very upscale look.

Overall, we’re incredibly happy with this oven. We’ve only just begun to use all of its capability and we cannot wait to use it more.

  3. A good oven, with a couple quirks.

I had a Ninja combined air fryer/toaster oven before this. There were times I wish I could cook two different things without having to turn on my full-size oven and thought this might be the answer. And, well, it kind of is. There are a lot of neat things about this countertop oven, but I think it’s limited in order to be compatible with your average household wall outlet. And what I mean about that is, in passing mention, and only a couple times in the manuals, it notes that if you are using both ovens at the same time, cooking times will be increased. To me, that means it has to sacrifice oven temperature in order to be able to power both ovens at the same time, due to the limits of the amount of power it can draw from your wall outlet.

Besides that, this oven works pretty well, but the difference between all the heating modes in both ovens is unclear. It’s also disappointing that the top oven can’t air fry either, even though the size of the oven is roughly the size of my old Ninja airfryer/toaster oven.

It took some learning on how to operate the two ovens. The first time I started it, I accidentally started cooking in both ovens, and couldn’t figure out how to stop just one. (Hint press and hold the button for the oven you want to turn off). Also, since there are so many cooking modes, it’s hard to remember which oven has which function, and you can only see all of the options with both ovens if you power both of them on so both control panels light up. If the bottom oven is completely off, you can’t see what cooking options are available.

That being said, the manual isn’t very clear what the difference between Whole Roast, Air Roast, and Convection Bake are. They just give a couple examples of what types of foods you might use with those functions, without making clear what the oven does differently. Same for pizza… it just says it heats a pizza evenly. But, what if I’m heating up a quesadilla, which of those 4 options should I use?

The top oven is a lot more clear, and has all your typical options (toast, bake, bagel) and they all work well. The top oven also pre-heats a lot quicker and is a lot quieter, and it’s a lot more straightforward and your basic oven. You can open just the top one by pressing on the button and pulling the handle. If you pull the handle without pushing the bottom, whole door opens to give you access to both ovens.

The bottom oven is a little strange and I think will take more getting used to. It does air fry very well, and I’ve been very happy with anything I’ve fried in it. But again, the other functions are unclear. All the heat just comes from the right side of the oven via the convection fan. (The top oven has heating elements on the top and bottom.) The top oven also takes a lot more time to preheat (though still quicker than a full-size oven.

The thermometer and oven sync works really well, so it does help with taking the guesswork out of when something will be finished cooking, and when you should start cooking the companion dish. So, for those reasons, that makes this oven really neat. But some clarity on the cooking modes would make cooking a little less trial and error as you learn this new oven.

  4. Toasting is hard, but I love it!

It’s complicated, but once you learn it, it makes sense!

Maybe it was just me, but this unit felt like there were a ton of rules you had to know before using it. It made the entire experience feel convoluted at first, but I think I was making mountains out of mole hills. Because once I got it all figured out, it is actually quite intuitive. One example: nothing is dishwasher safe minus the wire rack, everything else has to be hand washed. So the rule in our family is NOTHING goes in the dishwasher in regards to this Ninja. The top oven can only be used for some things, and the sheet pan can rest on top of the wire rack, but on the bottom oven has two slots, some things go into one slot while others do not. The combination of the two can be tricky as well. But the rule of thumb is the top is a toaster, the bottom is an airfryer. This little distinction made it far more simple. The other thing is you can’t use low smoke point oils, such as olive oil or butter. So most if not all of your meals needs veggie oil, canola, etc. Also when using both ovens at the same time, you have to estimate additional time, Ninja recommends a couple minutes or so additional cook time. So if your recipe requires 20 mins to cook, try 22 instead.

The other complication was I bought a whole chicken, but it ended up being too big for the unit. Turns out the unit can only accept 5 pound chickens or lower with another page in the manual recommending 4 to 4.5 pounds. Needless to say, I had to use my conventional oven for the chicken instead of the Ninja. But that didn’t stop me, I also bought a salmon and that cooked gloriously! More on that later.

Once I got it figured out, the buttons on the front are pretty self explanatory. There is a “Top” and “Bottom” button, which just lets you the user know what is happening on the display for that particular space. Or turns on the unit enabling that particular spot. The “Smart Finish” button is a little tricky, but it has a couple features in that one button.

You can use the built in meat thermometer to have it stop cooking when it reaches the desired temp! Remember when I mentioned my super delicious salmon? Well I used the leave-in auto detect feature and it stopped cooking as soon as the temp got perfect! So good! I loved it. At the same time, I had potatoes and veggies roasting on the top! The family loved it and it was super easy to do. The other thing I noticed is the veggies didn’t taste like fish, so I think Ninja did a good job with aroma control.

The biggest thing I don’t like about this unit is the toaster! The settings variations on toast is not real, I had it set to 3 and 2 pieces of bread and my toast was essentially burnt! I turned it to 1 and 1, and both my pieces were fine.

But if you want a lightly toasted piece of bread, it’s impossible to do without watching the bread. For example my toddler likes very lightly warmed poptarts, and I can’t do that with this unit using the toast setting. I can however work around the issue using the “Keep Warm” setting.

So far I’ve made chicken tenders, chicken breast, salmon, veggies, nachos, fries, poptarts, toast, bagels, and mozzarella sticks. I plan on making so much more with this thing, including another attempt at a whole chicken.

All in all, I love this and I’m so happy to have it added into our kitchen!

A heavy oven but very rugged and efficient. Easy control and settings. Food tastes flavorful. Perfect choice for a small cabin or a tiny home. Cooks quickly and thoroughly. Excellent technology and performance. Simple to clean and the stainless steel has a very polished and sophisticated apperance. Plenty of room for most casseroles and other dishes. Great for pizza. I love the auto shutoff feature. A variety of programs, even dehydrating. Comes with helpful instructions.

We use this every day. It’s easy to use. The instructions are clear and the controls are simple and convenient. We’ve been using this more often than our large stove. Anything you Need to toast or bake or broil can be prepared in the Ninja Doublestack oven and air fryer. Plus you can use both ovens at the same time. We’re very happy with it.

I’ll be honest, I do not like to throw down in the kitchen. I keep it simple and basic. Let’s just say cooking is not a specialty for me. But the Ninja Double Stack Air Fryer is right up my alley! It’s simple to use and cooks fast. The ease of use is for anybody. The buttons are easily visible and the display is easily visible as well. The simplicity and ease of use go a long way for me. The included items mean you don’t have to go out and pay for anything extra. Outside of some air fryer liners maybe.

The top portion is great for warming up quick meals. It can be used separately or synced with the lower oven. The bottom portion can be used for much bigger meals if needed. The included basket tray makes things much more manageable. You get different modes as well such as Broil, Toast, Bake, Reheat, Keep Warm, Whole Roast, Air Roast, Air Fry, Conc Bake, Pizza, and Dehydrate. Now that is a lot of settings to cook with.

The main addition that I enjoyed while using the over was the turn knob. It felt very good while adjusting the temperature or the time. I’m glad Ninja didn’t skimp out here. This will be the most used function of the oven. So having a crisp knob is great. Another feature is the display will show “Hot” letting you know the oven/air fryer is still warm. That way nobody burns themself or places something on top of it.

The only con is the oven timer isn’t very loud. If I’m on the other side of the house I can barely hear it go off. Outside of that, I didn’t experience any other cons with this amazing device. This was a great addition to my kitchen!

  10. Nearly Flawless and Pricey Countertop Oven

    Review source: Bestbuy

    Overall:

The Ninja Double Stack XL Countertop Oven & Air Fryer with Pro Cook System does a lot of different things well for a countertop oven. The device is easy to use, has 2 separate ovens that can be used independently of one another, and is versatile enough to use as a toaster or a full-fledged oven. Cleaning it isn’t the easiest, since only one crumb tray is included for the top portion of the oven. That’s just a small pet peeve in an otherwise list of great things this oven provides, though.

I toasted a variety of breads and bagels, all coming out crisp at the level 3 setting. I cooked a frozen pizza in the bottom oven and that also came out great. These are pretty basic items, so I went ahead and tried air frying some wings in the bottom oven with great success as well. Frozen chicken was no biggie either on “air fry”. You name it and I cooked it in this thing. Vegetables, tater tots, hot pockets, french fries, steak kabobs, etc. Everything turned out great, no matter what I tried cooking.

I also tried the meat thermometer and set my desired temp. Once you plug it in, you just stick it in your meat and let the oven do its thing. Once the temperature you choose is reached, the oven shuts itself off. Pretty easy and convenient, as I don’t have to worry about checking my meat by pulling it out of the oven 12 times while it’s trying to cook.

The Ninja Double Stack XL is a cool kitchen gadget, but it takes up a lot of counter space and costs a pretty penny. If you’ve got the room and the cash to spare, go for it!

Here’s a quick pros and cons list to help you decide if this oven is for you.

    Pros:
Large capacity: Can cook two foods at once, making it great for families or entertaining
Versatile: Can cook a variety of foods, from pizza and wings to roasted vegetables and baked goods
Easy to operate: Intuitive controls and preset cooking programs make it easy to get started and cook common foods
Cooks food quickly and evenly: Powerful heating elements and air fryer technology ensure that food cooks quickly and evenly. Even my bagels came out looking great
Sleek design: The stainless steel is a classic design that will fit in with any kitchen decor
Built in detachable thermostat: You can cook meat to a certain temperature or doneness with the included thermostat. The oven will just shut off automatically once the criteria you select has been met
    Cons:
Expensive: This is a luxury product, priced as such
Can be difficult to clean: A crumb tray for the bottom oven would have been nice
