Pros & Cons
Pros
- Dual-Zone Versatility: The independent top and bottom ovens allow users to cook two different dishes at different temperatures and settings at the same time, effectively replacing multiple appliances like toasters and air fryers.
- Smart Finish Technology: The Smart Finish feature is a major highlight, automatically synchronizing the cooking times of both ovens so that different foods are ready to be served at the exact same moment.
- Fast Preheating and Cooking: Reviewers frequently note that the unit preheats in just a few minutes and cooks food significantly faster than traditional full-sized ovens, making it highly efficient for daily meal prep.
Cons
- Difficult to Clean: The interior lacks a non-stick coating, making it tough to scrub, and the downward-opening door design allows crumbs and grease to fall into the hinges and crevices.
- Inconsistent Toasting: Many users report that the toast and bagel settings are too powerful, often burning the edges of bread or producing 'nuclear' heat even on the lowest shade settings.
- Bulky Size and Hot Exterior: The appliance takes up substantial counter space and is quite heavy; additionally, the exterior surfaces become dangerously hot during operation, posing a potential burn risk.

An excellent oven for "downsizing" a kitchen.
R. H. September 28, 2024Review source: AmazonYou might like to bake, cook dinners in an oven, or have a larger family which does not really allow for the use of a smaller oven in general.
For us, there are just the two of us, and the house we purchased had an original Double Oven installed. In looking around online, we could expect something like 13 to 15 years of solid service from such an oven.
Again, it was the original oven that the house had when it was built some time ago.
As there are only two of us, and we have no need for a double oven, we looked fora way to replace it, then we found the Ninja Double Stack XL. I had seen other items listed in the same idea, but none of them really jumped out at me, but this one DID look like a viable replacement for our double oven!
Once we settled on that, and acquired THIS one, we went about removing the one that we KNEW was hard wired into the home. We did remove the original doors on that double oven because they way too much, and we slide the unit out of the cabinet. This left us with a huge (but perfectly clean and nice looking) space where the original oven had been.
This unit is a countertop unit, but we have cats, and they would scratch this up or the like, so we decided to place this unit in that space, but on a nice cabinet, so we could use it right where the other oven had been.
This works out very nicely for us, and it made downsizing the kitchen capacity a project well worth completing!
It is an excellent oven with tons of capability, and various ways in which to use it. I would suggest watching the video on the images section – it is very helpful.
Five Stars!

Easy to use and understand its use edited with more information
Dee A September 28, 2024Review source: AmazonThis is my first Ninja product, believe it or not. I am impressed with this oven, it was offered just in time as my counter top toaster oven, a well know expensive brand has been acting up lately. This oven is taller than my oven, but did fit under my cabinets which are lower than normal as I am short and had them put in that way so I could use the first two shelves and kind of reach the third without a step ladder. Nice surprise to have the direction in the language I know and the presentation not to be several languages on one page, thereby making it annoying to follow. Directions are easy to understand, but so is the machine. Nice feature of having the ability to cook two different item at once. Did notice the top oven does cook fast, so watch it when using both at the same time. There is an issue for me that the lid cannot be opened up fully because the handle sticks out so far. I had to bring the oven forward to make sure it did not hit the counter, something you need to do before you start cooking. At first when the oven is heating up it is a bit load, my husband thought I was sanding with an orbital sander in the kitchen. Funny, don’t know what he thought I was sanding. Anyways after it reaches the temperature set, it quiets down and is not really noticeable. I am impressed with the directions as so often the directions things come with lately have been of such poor quality, the point they are trying to get across, with poor translation is lost and I just use the items, hoping for the best with out continuing to waste my time reading them. The “recipe book”, is just a pamphlet telling you how to cook pre-made frozen foods, but is a good starting point for me for my own recipes I will be using as cooking in this particular oven. The outside surface is easy to clean and get fingerprints off. The air fryer feature did a good job with my fries, which is the only air fried type food I have tried. Looking forward to the continued use of this product and experimenting with air frying food. I am not a regular fryer of food, so hoping this will appease my husband for his desire for fried foods. EDIT: While cleaning up my husbands side table I found the actual recipe book which will make a good starter for using the oven with my own creativity. Nice colorful book, that my husband had hidden in his mess.
++++Edit: It would be nice to have a tray for the bottom of the oven as well as the top as to keep the bottom cleaner is something drips on it. I have been switching the tray from one to the other as I use it. The top oven it states must have it to be used. Also, After using this for months, I am really missing what my old oven has, which is the trays/shelves where magnetic and when you opened the door to the oven they would slide out around 2-3 inches, making it easy to grasp and safer. -

Excellent Appliance
Karvinen September 21, 2024Review source: AmazonMany years ago, my blender died and I was seriously considering dropping big dough on a Vitamix. Couldn’t bring myself to do it, so I took a chance on a Ninja blender that a family member raved about. Good call! Still use that blender regularly and still love it. It definitely made trying this Ninja oven a much simpler decision.
To be honest, I haven’t even scratched the surface of this product, but I don’t need to drive a Porsche around the world to know it’s a great product either.
The controls seem a bit intimidating at first, but they are actually quite intuitive and allow you to pick specific options that I would probably just ignore if it was any more complex.
For instance, I was able to quickly program the top for 4 bagels, toasted medium, and they came out perfectly in a fraction of the time it would have taken my toaster oven.
I also used the pizza setting in the bottom oven and let Ninja recommend the cook time. It came out perfectly with crispy crust, bubbly cheese, and fast.
So far, this oven is quiet, heats up quickly, and even lets you know when it is cool to the touch after you are finished with it. It’s definitely bigger than my old Cuisinart toaster oven, but it fits nicely under my cabinets and does a ton more.
It comes with a complete set of racks and pans, which will make using both spaces a reality for more complex meals. I basically just cook for two most nights, and I see this Ninja taking a large bite out of my big oven’s usefulness…and the energy it consumes, and the heat it gives off.
This is easily one of my favorite products/purchases this year.

Versatile!
Alisun September 20, 2024Review source: AmazonWe are remodeling our kitchen and this is our go to appliance, but it’s definitely going to stick around after the remodel as well.
We can use this countertop oven for just about everything! From toast to keeping warm to baking cookies, and so much more.
The Cosori air fryer was my go-to for so long, but, honestly, the loud beeping and machine sounds were gnawing at me. This machine is super quiet that it’s easy to forget it is even on.
The double oven makes dinner time much easier. I often use the top oven for keeping something warm while still cooking in the bottom.
I am still learning the settings, it’s much more powerful than the Cosori, so I’ve burnt things that I had on a too high temp or too long time, so start low and add temp/time.
Easy for day to day use of toasting or reheating, but also very helpful for larger meals. I’m looking forward to using this during the holidays! -
4½ Stars if I could: This is an EXCELLENT Countertop Oven but It Has Some Issues
MJA September 19, 2024Review source: AmazonThis is the first Ninja appliance I have owned, and I am very impressed with the quality. Everything is well-made including, for example, the heavy enameled pans, the solid oven door that closes well, the large buttons and display, etc. It has some nice features such as a light that automatically turns on during the last 30 seconds of cooking and a “Hot” that displays on the face of the oven until it has cooled down. And the interface is very easy to use with just 3 buttons for each oven (top and bottom) and one universal dial.
Best of all, it performs very well. I have been using it every night for a week and have been very satisfied. The air fryer made short work of hot, crisp french fries. Tonight I used the lower oven to convection bake chicken breasts soaking in BBQ sauce. Then I used the top oven as a salamander to finish off the breasts by quickly caramelizing the BBQ sauce on top. The results were very juicy chicken breasts on the inside with a sweet blistered BBQ coating on the outside. And the toaster is WICKED fast (seriously: don’t walk away). And it produces very evenly browned toast.
Bottom line: it’s a GREAT countertop oven. But I didn’t want to just give it a blanket 5-star rating as there are some issues to consider. None are deal-breakers for me, but some are a little frustrating. So I’m going to focus my review on those issues to help you decide before investing in this oven.
OVERSIZED OVEN DOOR HANDLE HITS MY COUNTERTOP: There is one handle for the oven doors and it is BIG. It sticks out 3 inches from the face of the oven. This really is problematic if you have a countertop that is deeper than 24 inches or if you want to place this on a wide surface such as a kitchen island, because that handle then hits the countertop and prevents you from fully opening up the oven door. In my case, I’ve placed the oven in an L-shaped corner of my countertop (see photos). So the longer L side prevents me from fully opening the door, which means at most I can pull out the bottom oven rack only half way. It also means the hot oven door is always partially in the way of my forearms as I try to reach over it and into the oven to move food or check temp, etc. (See photo.) I know it’s only a matter of time before I burn myself or spill a pan of food (or both) since I can’t fully and flatly open the oven door. Only if your countertop is no more than 24 inches deep (or you are willing to place your oven no more than 24 inches back from the edge of your counter or island) will the door fully open. The big handle will then fall in front of and below your countertop surface to allow the oven door to open flatly. Because of my L-shaped counter, I can’t make that happen. (One other option: you could place the oven on a 3-inch riser. But, for me, that would place the top of the oven and its heat too close to the cabinet above.)
CAN’T OPEN ONLY BOTTOM OVEN DOOR: The oven handle has a large button on the left side. If you press this button, only the top portion of the oven door will open exposing the small top oven (and the bottom oven remains closed). If you don’t press this button, the entire oven door opens exposing both the top and bottom ovens. So there is no way to open only the bottom oven. If you will be frequently using both ovens simultaneously, every time you open the bottom oven to check temps, stir food, etc., you will also be letting the heat out of the top oven.
TOP OVEN IS REALLY TOO NARROW: I really like the concept of the salamander-like oven up top: a narrow oven for toasting, finishing, or warming food. But its versatility is limited because it’s only 2½ tall on the inside. Many of the example recipes in the included booklet have you placing store-bought dinner rolls in the top open for warming. But many store-made dinner rolls are 2 inches or taller and will be very close to or hit the top of the oven. And that 2½-inch clearance gets reduced even further if you need to place whatever you’re warming on a pan or tray. For example, that top oven would be great for keeping a plated dinner warm for someone running late. But you need to take into account the thickness of the plate as well, and, therefore, can’t have anything on that plate that’s taller than about 1½ inches or so to keep it from being too close to the top of the oven. The narrow oven works great for toast. But it’s just too narrow for a lot of other things. It would have been great if this top oven were at least 4 inches tall with two rack positions to really make it more functional.
I NEED TONGS TO PUSH AND PULL FOOD IN AND OUT: Because the top oven is so narrow, and because I can’t fully open the bottom oven door, I’ve had to resort to keeping tongs handy to use as my hands. The burn risk is too high trying to reach into the narrow top oven with your fingers and to try to keep your arms away from the hot oven door if your countertop won’t let you fully open it (as in my case).
NO ROASTER TRAY: The instructions and recipe guide all show a roaster tray (the slotted tray you place above the main tray to let meat drippings fall below). My oven did not come with one, and I needed to separately purchase it.
ONLY ONE CRUMB TRAY: The instructions are clear that the oven includes only 1 crumb tray (the metal tray that slides onto the very bottom of the ovens to catch crumbs). The instructions suggest you can move the crumb tray from the top oven (for toast) to the bottom oven when, for example, you’re cooking a pizza right on the rack. But that tray isn’t just for crumbs. It also catches spills and splatters that would otherwise burn on the bottom of the ovens. Always having that tray in place in both ovens really makes cleanup much easier. It just seems like such an oversight to not provide two trays: one for each oven. So I had to purchase an extra one of those as well.
TIMER STARTS AUTOMATICALLY ONCE PREHEATED: This oven doesn’t have a “start timer” button. Instead, the timer automatically starts as soon as the oven is preheated. For example, if you set the oven to 350 degrees with a 30-minute cook time, the oven will display “Pre” when preheating. But the second the oven reaches temp, it will beep and then the 30 minutes start immediately counting down. Odds are you might be busy with some other part of dinner prep or with wet hands in the sink when the oven beeps. By the time you put your food in the oven to start cooking, 2 or 3 minutes may have already lapsed. You will then need to manually add back those minutes to the cooking time to get your full 30 minutes. Honestly, it’s easier to just worry about setting your temp first and hit start. Then set your desired cook time once the oven is preheated and you place your food in the oven.
NO HELPFUL DESCRIPTIONS OF DIFFERENT COOKING OPTIONS: Each oven offers several cooking settings such as Bake, Reheat, Keep Warm for the top oven and Whole Roast, Air Roast, Convection Bake, and Pizza for the lower oven. The instructions offer very vague descriptions of each of these settings with example foods to cook in each setting. As someone who has owned several restaurants, I like to control my cooking – meaning, I want to know exactly what the oven is doing in each setting. For example, how is the Pizza setting different than the Convection Bake Setting? Or the Reheat setting different than the Bake Setting? I honestly have no clue. Some settings might only use the bottom burners or top burners or use the convection fans at different speeds, etc. I would really like to know the differences so I can decide what setting would be best for whatever I’m cooking. But without knowing, I honestly am likely going to just use Convection Bake most often in the bottom oven and Toast and Bake in the top oven. Not knowing the details of how each setting is operating renders those settings much less useful.

yum
TheBeesKnees September 17, 2024Review source: AmazonA few more settings and capabilities than my smaller airfryer/toaster oven which I am replacing because I wanted something larger.
This has many settings so I read the guide that came with it.
For a while I couldn’t figure out how to get into the bottom oven. Turns out, you just open the door. Don’t use the gray button. Holding the gray button makes it so you can only open the top. But if you just open the door without holding the gray button it opens the whole thing.
Large enough and with the capability to use a regular bake setting like a normal oven.
Also settings for dehydration (I’ll update if I use to make beef jerky), air fry, toast, normal oven, convection oven and more.Looks stunning on the counter.

Delightful!
Tonya Shepherd September 16, 2024Review source: AmazonThere is rarely a Ninja product that I dislike, this is not an exception. This is a delightful air fryer, and convenient oven in one! It can save loads of time while cooking dinner, and it’s easy to use!
It is best for teenagers, and healthier than microwave ovens. I recommend it!

Very good AIR FRYER and TOASTER OVEN combo, but clumsy controls and other issues.
Nortan Thalem September 16, 2024Review source: AmazonI feel like the advertising for the Ninja Doublestack XL was a little confusing. At the time I ordered it, I was under the impression that both chambers were capable of air frying. Instead, it is a TOASTER OVEN built on top of an AIR FRYER. The toaster oven on top does NOT air fry, so if you need something with two separate air frying chambers, THIS IS NOT what you want.
To Ninja’s credit, both the air fryer and the toaster oven portions perform their respective roles VERY well, with the exception that a dedicated air fryer or a dedicated toaster oven might give you a slightly taller ceiling. The smart finish feature which times the two cooking chambers to finish at the same time is also a genuinely helpful feature that brings out the benefits of both ovens and takes some thinking out of preparing a larger meal.
My family wasn’t sure about air fryers and started out with a small one about a year ago. Even that one proved to be incredibly useful and convenient for cooking anything from hot pockets to sausage without having to fire up our full size oven just to cook for one person. I soon after got one of my own to use just so we could cook more at a time. The Ninja Doublestack XL however, is the kind of air fryer that can cook a meal for our whole 3 person family without having to break it down into multiple cooking sessions.
COMPLAINTS:
I have two major complaints about the Ninja Doublestack XL. First, the buttons are a bit clumsy to use, particularly since both the air fryer and toaster oven share that single control knob. It adds a bit of thinking because you have to press the buttons and turn the knob in a certain order when cooking with both ovens. I often start the oven(s) accidentally when I’m still trying to adjust the settings. It gets just a touch more complicated when using the smart finish feature too. It doesn’t seem so hard that I won’t get the logic to it within a couple weeks of operation, but giving each oven a dedicated knob would have made operation so simple that I wouldn’t need to get used to it’s quirky controls. Additionally, the power button and oven light button are the same shape and at the same level, which can lead to accidentally shutting it off if your not paying attention.
Second, the price on this oven, 350 USD at time of writing, is far too much in my opinion, and then they want to sell some additional accessories separately. At this price they ought to have included the anti-stick basket and roasting tray, not to mention a second crumb tray (both chambers have a crumb tray slot but only one is included). Further compacted by a few minor complaints, I really feel like they missed the mark on overall quality for such a high priced appliance. Even looking at other Ninja air fryers, you can get away much cheaper buying a separate air fryer and toaster oven than buying this combo unit.
However, if price is not an issue, and you need both of these packed into a single appliance, the Doublestack XL is not likely going to disappoint you.
As for other complaints:
*The feet of the oven don’t grip my countertop well. You have to be careful how you pull on the oven handle or you might pull the whole oven forward and onto the floor or yourself by accident (and this is a HUGE, heavy oven). You want to pull DOWN instead of pulling toward yourself. It advises a two-person lift just to get it onto the counter. It feels like a huge oversight not to have better gripping feet on this thing, an accident waiting to happen.
*The two ovens are not completely separated. There are tiny gaps in the rubber seal, and sometimes the top one steams up while the lower one is operating, obscuring the view through the glass. It’s probably enough to keep the flavors separated “enough”, though if anyone in your family has severe food allergies, I would not trust the seal to keep heated peanut particles/oil in one meal from seeping into the other chamber via smoke and steam.
*Sometimes after pressing the button to illuminate the cooking chambers, the lights will kind of quickly pulse on and off. It’s not rapid, but it’s not slow either. Most of the time it works properly, though it’s fast enough that I worry it could trigger a reaction from someone with severe epilepsy.
*Some heat can leak into the top oven from the bottom. This might interfere with some foods cooking properly when using the smart finish mode.
*The spring loaded mechanism that reduces the effort of opening and closing the door is attached to a thin looking part on the door. I worry it’s a likely point of failure, if that snaps or wears out the door could be ruined.
*The oven door tends to stick out pretty far over the countertop so this is not usually an issue, but the handle is so large that if it is sitting on a larger table, the handle will keep the door from laying down perfectly flat.
-The door can stick out far enough from the countertop that someone not paying attention could run into it if left open, be careful and warn people when the door is open and close it as soon as possible.*Flaky and oily fools can fall/drip onto the door when pulling them out, and get into crevices that are annoying the clean.
*The LCD screen lags just a bit behind when adjusting them with the knob, which can make adjusting temperature, time, and selecting the modes a little more of a hassle.
NOTABLE BENEFITS OF THE DOUBLESTACK XL:
It does have a LOT of good features and thoughtful designs my cheaper air fryers are missing though:
*It has an extra-wide cooking zone compared to my other air fryer. I can cook two to three times more food at a time, and much larger single pieces of food without cutting it into smaller sections. I can cook some premade meal cartons that I could never cook in my smaller air fryers.
*The cooking modes and timers seem to disappear into the metal above the knob when not in use, not only looking sleek but making it less of an eyesore when powered off.
*The lighting does a good job of illuminating the cooking chambers. Pressing the button turns it on for about 10-15 seconds before automatically shutting off. They seem to have engineered it to fade in and out instead of immediately flicking on to full brightness, to make it easier on the eyes.
*If applicable for the settings you choose, the oven preheats itself before counting down on the timer, and beeps to let you know it’s time to put the food in.
-It won’t wait for you to put the food in before counting down though.*It’s fairly easy to add or remove time and adjust the temperature after starting.
*You can pause by pressing on the knob without canceling the whole cooking operation.
*As long as the appliance is plugged in, the LEDs will light up saying “HOT” to warn you not to touch it when not in use. Even if one oven is running, it will warn you if the opposite oven is still hot enough to burn your bare hands.
-If only one oven is hot after turning it off, it may be difficult to tell which oven it’s warning you of, since the LEDs become invisible and you lose the reference point.*The racks slide into the ovens nice and smooth. The basket takes a little more effort but it keeps things more secure. The ease of sliding really adds to the feel of this appliance.
*The square pans that fit onto the wire racks feel very sturdy, much more substantial than the flimsy removable plates of other air fryers.
*The handle on the door is nice and substantial. It gives your hands plenty of room to keep them from touching the hot glass and metal behind the handle. The button to make only the top half of the door open has a very nice feel when operating.
COOKING/FOOD NOTES:
*My father’s usual serving of chicken wings do not need to be split into two batches and only takes a half hour to cook as a result, down from an hour.
*I can fit a whole slice of Elio’s pizza into the fryer without cutting it in two like I do with my smaller fryer. It cooks faster in an air fryer than it does in a regular oven and with much less management.
-The broiler makes a great option for melting more cheese or added toppings after taking it out of the air fryer.*The included mesh basket exposes more of the underside of foods so fries and potatoes don’t have that one half-cooked side.
*The toaster oven has settings just for bread and bagels. It does an excellent job, though the default “shades” are overkill. Keep your eyes on the bread until you can figure out what settings work for your bread or you WILL burn it. I wish the shades were a little more nuanced, I think I nearly burned a slice of nature’s own whole wheat at “4”, and that was after shutting it off early. You can probably donate your dedicated toaster once you’ve figured it out though.
*Hot pockets, Jamaican beef patties, and similar microwave based foods take longer to cook but the quality is greatly improved. Typically they take 15 minutes and with much less effort than firing up our full size oven. I can cook 2-6 in this oven no-problem compared to smaller air fryers.
*This appliance is far better suited for baking than typical air fryers. Both the air fryer and toaster oven can bake cakes and etc. I tested a batch of keto muffin mix in both ovens, using mini muffin pans. The “Convention Bake” setting of the air fryer was MUCH faster than the toaster oven though. The instructions said the muffins would cook in about 32 minutes, which turned out to be true for the toaster oven, but the air fryer compartment cooked the same muffins it in about 13 minutes.
*Ball park hot dogs can be cooked in the top or bottom oven pretty quickly. I like to air fry them for 6 minutes in the bottom or broil them on high for 5 minutes in the top. Buns can likewise be toasted in the opposite oven, albeit they toast and crisp a bit differently depending on the oven.
*Sausage and Kielbasa cook in about 15 minutes at 380′ in the air fryer, if you like to have toasted bread you can prep it to cook for about 2-3 minutes in the toaster oven and use the smart finish to make sure they are ready at the same time as the sausage.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Summing things up here, there is enough wrong with this air fryer that it should not have at it’s price point. Despite this, it’s build quality is still respectable, mostly metal and glass, with very little plastic. It has good features, and the smart finish is genuinely a good selling point. It can easily replace a full size oven for all but big family events if you plan your meals accordingly, and even cut back on electricity costs and excess heat. It performs it’s niche function as a combo air fryer/toaster oven very well and I’m enjoying it despite the drawbacks.
Ideally I’d rate this 3 and a half stars if only because of the high price to overall quality ratio, but as that is not an option, I’m giving it the benefit of 4 stars.
