Pros & Cons
Pros
- Exceptional Versatility and Performance: The 10-in-1 functionality allows users to air fry, bake, roast, and dehydrate with consistent results, often making traditional ovens obsolete. It features a large interior capacity that can accommodate whole chickens, 13-inch pizzas, or multiple trays of food simultaneously.
- Rapid Preheat and Cooking Speed: The unit features an incredibly fast preheat time of approximately 90 seconds, which is significantly faster than standard full-sized ovens. This efficiency allows users to start cooking almost immediately and reduces overall meal preparation time.
- Integrated Smart Thermometer: The Pro Cook System includes a built-in thermometer probe that monitors internal food temperature and automatically shuts off the unit when the target doneness is reached. This feature eliminates guesswork and ensures meats are cooked perfectly and remain juicy.
Cons
- High Noise and Vibration Levels: A frequent complaint is the excessive noise generated by the convection fan, which some users compare to a jet engine or an airplane. Additionally, several reviewers reported distracting metallic rattling or vibrations during operation.
- Large Countertop Footprint: The unit is quite bulky and deep, requiring substantial counter space and clearance from walls due to its rear-venting design. Its size may be problematic for smaller kitchens or standard-depth countertops.
- Challenging to Clean: Maintaining the interior is difficult because grease and food splatters can easily reach the exposed heating elements and the back fan. Users noted that baked-on residue is hard to remove and the crumb tray can be tricky to empty without spilling.

Have not used the thermometer yet so can’t review that aspect of the oven. Highly recommend. -

Love it!!

I ultimately decided on this one and I absolutely love it. I went from an instant air fryer to this ninja. It is really big you can fit a whole frozen Di Giorno pizza easily in it on one shelve! It’s more deep than wide, so it doesn’t take up a ton of counter space which is great.

High quality, yummy results, loud
Mer4343 October 28, 2024Review source: BestbuyI have had a convection toaster oven for the past five plus years, and I swear by it. I have told everyone I know to toss their old basket air fryers and embrace the toaster oven air fryer form factor. Switching to a new toaster oven air fryer was a daunting task because my old standby worked perfectly. But it was getting a little ragged, so I gave the new Ninja Smart XL a try.
The first thing I noticed was the shape. This is a more cubic countertop stove, as it is taller and narrower on the outside than most toaster ovens. It still fits nicely under a cabinet, and the space inside is actually bigger. The build is sturdy, especially the handle. Since all the controls are housed inside that handle, it’s a good thing it’s not flimsy. There are two racks, an air fry basket, a roasting tray, and two pans included. (The instructions advise to use that roasting pan whenever one of the convection functions is selected, so keep that handy to prevent spatters!)
The controls on the handle are completely intuitive. Match up your mode with your time and temp and press start. The 90 second preheat is accurate.
The automatic light is a nice touch. It comes on whenever the door is opened and one minute prior to the end of the timer.
Having two spacious shelves is a welcome addition to a countertop oven as well. I can make salmon and sides all in one space without heating up the big oven.
One huge con to this unit is the lack of ability to add convection to modes that don’t already use it. For example, I’d like to be able to add convection to the Reheat mode for things like baked chicken or fried pork chops because I like them crispy. This oven does not allow for that, so I use one of the other modes and have to adjust the temps/times. My oldie but goodie had me spoiled with on demand convection. Ninja should consider adding that feature because the convection is powerful and has different fan speeds depending on the mode as well. That is also NOT adjustable.
The other drawback is the noise level. This thing sounds like a jet engine in any convection mode, and the highest fan speed will drown out conversation or whatever you’re trying to watch on TV in an open floor plan. I did some reading and it seems this is a common complaint. It’s not enough to take away a recommendation, but be aware this is not a quiet appliance.
This oven cooks GREAT! Definitely replaces any basket fryer and the standard oven in many cases. But it takes some time and a few good trial runs to determine which mode/convection/fan speed pre-determined combination works best for what tasks. What Ninja deems best for “bake” may not be what you expect. If you are willing to putz a little, you’ll end up with an excellent convection toaster oven with a ton of room inside and yummy results.Read More

Improvement over the Ninja XL!
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Soupy October 25, 2024Review source: BestbuyOur 2 year old Ninja failed so we elected to.tey the Breville. So far its worked great as a toaster, air fryer and baking pizza (which turned out excellent). This Breville is much quieter and more powerful than our former Ninja. We will see how long it lasts we use these countertop ovens multiple times a day!
