Pros & Cons
Pros
- Exceptional Versatility and Performance: The 10-in-1 functionality allows users to air fry, bake, roast, and dehydrate with consistent results, often making traditional ovens obsolete. It features a large interior capacity that can accommodate whole chickens, 13-inch pizzas, or multiple trays of food simultaneously.
- Rapid Preheat and Cooking Speed: The unit features an incredibly fast preheat time of approximately 90 seconds, which is significantly faster than standard full-sized ovens. This efficiency allows users to start cooking almost immediately and reduces overall meal preparation time.
- Integrated Smart Thermometer: The Pro Cook System includes a built-in thermometer probe that monitors internal food temperature and automatically shuts off the unit when the target doneness is reached. This feature eliminates guesswork and ensures meats are cooked perfectly and remain juicy.
Cons
- High Noise and Vibration Levels: A frequent complaint is the excessive noise generated by the convection fan, which some users compare to a jet engine or an airplane. Additionally, several reviewers reported distracting metallic rattling or vibrations during operation.
- Large Countertop Footprint: The unit is quite bulky and deep, requiring substantial counter space and clearance from walls due to its rear-venting design. Its size may be problematic for smaller kitchens or standard-depth countertops.
- Challenging to Clean: Maintaining the interior is difficult because grease and food splatters can easily reach the exposed heating elements and the back fan. Users noted that baked-on residue is hard to remove and the crumb tray can be tricky to empty without spilling.

Great for all Your Needs
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Jo Baughan September 1, 2024Review source: AmazonBeing an experienced air fryer user, I already knew this was the air fryer I needed. My only concern is the amount of heat it produces. I will be using a smaller air fryer sometimes because of the heat. I cooked a pan of cornbread for my mother tonight. I have not wanted to turn the oven on, but this air fryer works great for baking. I have used it at extensively as I wish, it has been a hot summer. The roasting racks are the type that wash easily and that is a big plus. All of the attachments are nice and I can’t wait to use them. This is the dream air fryer, all you will ever need.

Loud rattling noise and unit has slight wobble
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Spiky August 29, 2024Review source: AmazonReplacing the previous model of the Ninja Oven XL, I was looking forward to this new model as it had the built thermometer but the unit quality just seems off. Not sure how it happened but the unit has slight wobble and when it’s on it has a loud metallic rattling sound. After seeing other reviews with similar issues I decided to return it and not risk it breaking out of warranty. I did try it on salmon and the smart cooking feature did do a great job.

Versatile and Spacious Air Fryer Oven, Perfect for Larger Meals
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Yuki WONG August 22, 2024Review source: AmazonWe previously owned the Ninja SP201, which was compact but difficult to clean and had limitations with larger dishes. Upgrading from the Ninja SP201, this DT551 XL version is a game-changer for my family. It can even roast chicken and bake cakes, making it a hit with the whole family despite taking up more space. A tip: always place an empty tray above the heating elements to catch drips and prevent hard-to-clean messes.

Oven Loving My Oven Really Even Easy Baking and LOTS MORE!
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.T. R. August 10, 2024Review source: AmazonLove this oven but it is noisy on some cooking selections! First thing I baked were cookies that came out perfect. I cooked a casserole and air-fried other foods. The large size accommodates deep pans or large items such as a whole chicken. No need to heat up your house by using a full-size oven (note that this oven does put off heat too). Buttons are easy to use and the display tells you recommendations for the rack level to use. With 4 levels, you can cook multiple layers or a large (tall) item. This will take up more counter space than a “regular” toaster oven but this one also can do so much more. I found it heats evenly and, while the interior light can be turned on/off at any time, it automatically turns on when you open the door or when your cooking timer reaches the final minute. Another safety feature is that the oven stops heating when you open the door. Comes with 2 easy to clean pans in addition to a slotted/broiler pan and airfryer basket. Also has the probe thermometer for “set and forget” cooking. I tried the probe with pork and it worked well because you can select the type of meat and the doneness level that you want. Probe also magnetically stores on side of oven. The dehydrator is a nice feature and made tasty dehydrated apple slices. This is not a feature I would “normally” or regularly use (nothing against the oven…just not my thing). A dehydrator tray is available for separate purchase. Also, dehydrating takes multiple hours, and I found the oven noise slightly irritating for 4+ hours. Overall, I highly recommend the oven and it is a perfect size for full meals for 1-3 people without using full size oven. Be sure to follow directions…particularly heating empty oven and accessories before first use to burn off any residue.

Our hands down favorite multi oven yet
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Quasilogical August 2, 2024Review source: AmazonOk, this is our fourth multi oven air fryer type device, so I am familiar with these types of ovens and their capabilities. This oven has outperformed the others with how easy it is to use and maintain. The oven itself is very attractive and clever. I honestly thought there was a mistake since I saw no display. Upon powering it on I realized the apparently stainless front handle was actually a screen! Really gives a nice touch of design elegance. The operation is very simple, choose the type of operation, the temp and then the time. That’s it. The 90 second rapid heat up time is great for just throwing items in without dealing with a pre-heat. The roasting and baking functions have been perfect when making roast chicken, casseroles and baked goods. The air fryer does a great job for cheese sticks and other snacks, both store bought and homemade. Makes excellent french fries, hashbrowns and tater tots as well. They include 2 baking trays, a roasting pan and a stainless air fryer basket which is a big plus as well. I know it’s not the cheapest, but you do get what you pay for.

Legit!
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Nestor July 30, 2024Review source: AmazonThis microwave oven is insane! Its super high quality and works like a charm. It is definitely a step up from what I had before. I havent used the air fryer but im sure it works well considering how well the oven works. I have made pizza bagels, nuggets, wings, etc on this already and so far so good. The bread also toast evenly around and doesnt burn the edges like my older one would. My only complaint is the price of this thing. Its actually really expensive for what it is. For a few hundred more you can buy an actual stove with an oven and air fryer. Ninja is a good brand but they may want to consider dropping the price a bit.

Functional, Steep Pricing Compared to Previous Revision
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.Blue Hedgehog July 29, 2024Review source: AmazonThe Ninja Prestige XL Air Fryer Oven might seem new, but it is a rebranding of the existing Foodi line of appliances. It uses a similar product code and can use the existing accessories.
Functionality seems mostly identical, with the same number of functionalities as well as identical settings. The interior and exterior look the same except for the handle, which has now been updated to this sleeker and more stylish matte gray. The buttons are easy to use and the lit up text and numbers allow for easy understanding.
It is a fairly chunky unit, measuring roughly 17 by 20 inches, requiring you to invest in a sufficiently deep and sufficiently wide area of your countertop compared to a basket air-fryer. Compared to the basket style, this oven style air fryer require a bit more mindfulness when cleaning and it definitely gets much much hotter on the outside. Extra consideration has to be taken since it radiates heat more.
Cook times compared to a basket air fryer also take a fair bit more time, but not much more than I anticipated. The added functionalities of being an oven also make it much more convenient to use than the gas oven. The width and depth of the air fryer oven allows me to fit something as large as a massive rib roast. Especially nice is the smart thermometer since it has been surprisingly accurate as well.
The included accessories are very much appreciated. There is plenty of trays and shelves to use so that you can experience the convenience of multi-level cooking. It has much more flexibility compared to the basket with the main caveat being the reliance on more mindful cleaning.
You can expect to clean this up more carefully because of the heating elements on the top and bottom. It is a bit more awkward to wipe the interior with the recommended damp sponge since the heating elements feel so fragile. Additionally, they do not recommend harsh chemicals since the interior can get stripped easily that way, but it also makes it hard to remove baked on grease and splatters.
Overall, I do think it’s worth a recommendation if you need this specific style of bulk cooking, but do understand that it needs more TLC from you. It is also noticeably noisier as well, the fan will continue to run some time after cooking since it takes much more effort to cool it off. It gets uncomfortably hot, so extra care should also be taken when moving near it. Taking all these into consideration, what you do end up with is a super functional appliance that can churn out large meals quickly and easily. But still, consider the older model if you can since you save a considerable chunk for the same functionality.

Large
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.D July 25, 2024Review source: AmazonThis air fryer works well, has a ton of space and easy to figure out right out of the box. It also includes a food thermometer that plugs right into the
air fryer. It is however, quite large, so a decent amount of counter space is needed. Would recommend. -
The best toaster oven I've ever had
Incentivized Incentivized review: The reviewer received a benefit for sharing feedback.J F Seattle July 25, 2024Review source: AmazonI’m very impressed with the Prestige Smart XL Toaster Oven from Ninja. As a lifelong user of toaster ovens for toasting and smaller batch oven cooking, I’ve been hunting for a good replacement for my nearly tw decade old Krups FBC2. This Ninja model DT551 is the first that hasn’t felt like a compromise. While many toaster ovens implement “air fry” by renaming “convection” and deliver sub-par performance, the air fry setting in this Ninja oven uses a large fan with significant airflow and matches the excellent performance of bin-style air fryers that I have preferred.
The design is quite large, with the controls integrated into an oversized plastic handle that remains cool to the touch during use. The large size dominates my standard depth counter, with the handle extending over 27.5″ from the counter backsplash. If you’ve occasionally wished for a second oven for cooking, this Ninja Prestige Smart XL might just cover your needs. The four levels for placing pans in the oven are clearly indicated for each cooking setting, eliminating the need to consult the manual. I was impressed with how the seven different levels of toasting cover many shades of toast darkness, and the built-in light (somewhat uncommon in small toaster ovens) comes on automatically in the last minute of cooking to assist with early removal.
I did notice a slight bias in the air fryer towards the back of the oven, but this is easily remedied by rotating the basket 180 degrees once during cooking. The temperature at the back, near the circulation fan, might be a bit warmer, so I may need to adjust timing further.
In the past few weeks, I have cooked two 1.5 lb pork tenderloins using the temperature probe and whole roast settings. I typically cook those to 140 F in a full-size oven, but found 140 and even 135 F resulted in medium to medium-well tenderloin. The instruction manual suggests a medium rare pork target of 130 F, which is atypically low but may be what’s needed for a small oven.
The various pans included with the oven are high quality for added accessories – 2 pans, 1 drip tray, 1 air fry basket, 2 wire shelves, 1 crumb tray, and 1 roast thermometer with magnetic storage. I might try to pick up a second air fry tray to help rotate cleaning the used basket in the dishwasher and still have an air fry tray available (the 11.4 x 14.4 DT251 Foodi trays appear compatible).
I noticed that there’s both a heavy-duty convection/air fryer circulation fan inside and a quieter fan that stays on during and after cooking, possibly cooling the internal electronics of the Ninja. The cooling fan stayed on for a long time after roasting my tenderloin. I’ve come to expect the sound now, but this unexpected source of noise should have been mentioned in the user manual.
The cooking settings are well thought out, with quality features like automatic activation of the light, the cool-to-the-touch handle, and the powerful circulating fan all contributing to this being the best toaster oven I’ve ever used. The top and bottom heaters do a great job toasting things fairly quickly, and the other cooking functions work well, with some adjustments for faster cooking times needed. It is also the most expensive toaster oven I’ve owned, but it’s the first toaster oven that feels like an upgrade from my decades-old Krups, which I’ve been keeping running by replacing switches.

This 10-in-1 air fry digital countertop convection toaster oven is my new go-to for everything from air frying and air roasting to broiling and baking. The inclusion of a Pro Cook Thermometer and its powerful 1800 watts make it an all-in-one kitchen appliance that I now rely on every day.
One of the things I love most about this appliance is its incredible versatility. With 10 different cooking functions, I can effortlessly switch between air frying crispy chicken, roasting vegetables, baking cookies, or broiling fish. The digital interface is super user-friendly, making it easy to select the cooking mode and set the precise temperatures and times I need.
The Pro Cook Thermometer has been a total game-changer for me. It ensures that all my meats are cooked perfectly every time, eliminating the guesswork. This feature has made a noticeable difference in the quality and consistency of my meals, especially for roasts and larger cuts of meat. It’s so satisfying to pull out a perfectly cooked roast knowing it’s just right.
I’m particularly impressed with the air fry function. It allows me to enjoy my favorite fried foods with much less oil and fewer calories, without sacrificing taste or texture. The results are always crispy and delicious, making it a healthier alternative to traditional frying methods that my family loves.
The size of the Ninja Prestige Smart XL fits perfectly on my countertop. Despite its large capacity, it doesn’t take up too much space and fits neatly in my kitchen. The sleek stainless steel design adds a modern touch to my kitchen decor, and it’s surprisingly easy to clean with its non-stick interior and removable crumb tray.
The convection feature is fantastic for even cooking, and the powerful 1800-watt performance means meals are cooked faster without compromising on quality. This has been particularly useful for baking, where even heat distribution is crucial for perfect results. My cookies and cakes come out evenly baked and delicious every time.
