Pros & Cons
Pros
- Odor Control: Several reviewers highlight the litter box's ability to control odors, especially when used with appropriate clumping litter. Some reviewers mention that they no longer notice any litter box smell in their homes.
- Cat Acceptance: Many cats readily accepted and used the litter box, with some even enjoying watching the cleaning process. Some reviewers noted that their cats preferred this box over other automatic models.
- Convenience: Customers appreciate the convenience of automatic scooping, which reduces the time and effort required for litter box maintenance. The easy-to-remove waste drawer is also frequently mentioned as a positive feature.
Cons
- Reliability Issues: A significant number of reviewers report that the litter box stopped working or experienced mechanical failures (such as the rake getting stuck) within a few months of purchase. Some reviewers mention that the plastic parts are prone to breaking.
- Noise Level: Many reviewers describe the litter box as loud or noisy during operation, which can be disruptive, especially in smaller living spaces or at night. The noise is often attributed to the motor or the rake scraping against the box.
- Ineffective Cleaning: Several reviewers note that the rake does not effectively clean the litter box, leaving waste behind or pushing clean litter into the waste bin. Some mention that the rake doesn't reach the bottom of the pan, leading to a build-up of soiled litter.

This one is not for me.
melinda August 20, 2024Review source: AmazonWill be returning. Thoughts below after a 2 week trial run with 1 cat. Going back to a regular litter box.
Pros:
1. It’s nice not to have to scoop every day. Waste receptacle is easy to empty (every other day or so). Medium size generic trash bags fit just fine with some folding over.
2. The cat gets a clean litterbox experience with every use.
3. The cat adapted to it quickly. I still have a regular litterbox nearby, but read some tips to not clean it as frequently so the cat will choose the self cleaning box.Cons:
1. It stinks if you don’t empty the waste receptacle every day. The deposits don’t have enough time in the litter to dessicate (the unit rakes 10 minutes after sensing movement), so while the cat buries her deposits (both types), they still have moisture in them when raked into the waste receptacle. So you basically have uncovered deposits with a high mositure content gathering in the waste receptacle.
2. It’s louder than I expected. The cat got used to the noise and it doesn’t seem to bother her anymore, but it’s distracting to me in my small condo. It takes a couple minutes to complete a cycle. Might not be an issue in a larger home.
3. It wastes a lot of litter. I think this is a design flaw of this particular model. The rake has a bottom rail that scoops a handful of unused litter in with the waste each time. It adds up and I’m going through my 40 lb bag of litter much quicker than usual.
4. It’s huge. Again, maybe this wouldn’t matter in a larger home. Approx 18.5″ wide by 24″ long. Much larger than a standard size litterbox.
5. Somehow, deposits can get stuck behind the rake as it moves back to start position. Manual scooping/cleaning required.
6. There’s litter everywhere. Not exactly sure why, but there’s litter all over the rugs and tracked onto my floors since I started using this. Have to sweep or vacuum daily (not just by the box, but all over the place). Must be something to do with how the cat jumps out of this type of box.
7. Somehow, I’m thinking of the litterbox more than I was before, which is the opposite of what I wanted with a self-cleaning box. It’s in a hidden corner, but I’m having to add more litter daily and check the waste receptacle and rake. Sometimes stuff gets stuck on the rake (likely due to higher moisture content) and it stops and returns to start position. I still have a regular litterbox nearby as I don’t want the cat to have nothing to use if this one has an issue that I don’t notice right away. Would prefer if it had an app that notified me when there’s an issue. It does have a light that blinks or changes color (can’t remember at the moment) to notify you of incomplete cycles or other issues. -
Ease of cleaning

Sifts all clumps into a small bin contained inside the unit. Very easy to assemble. Our cats stink so having it scooped asap is nice. Is a bit bulky in size but overall has a decent appearance.

Love the drawer access!
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Mackenzie August 13, 2024Review source: AmazonI love the drawer! It helps with keeping the smell to a minimum and it is so easy to just dump the drawer and its contents. So easy that my 88 yo grandma can clean the litter box without any problem and it keeps her safe and clean! Great idea for busy people on the go because the cats nor the litter gets ignored and it is great if you have to travel over the weekend to have a friend just have to dump the drawer instead of scooping, you get a lot more people willing to help with the cats that way LOL!

Not What I Expected At All
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.SF August 13, 2024Review source: AmazonI got this because I figured it would be great to have when we go away on weekends and one less thing for someone to do when they check on the cat while we’re gone. I got this last month and used it less than a month. After one day of one cat using it, you can smell it. With my box we normally use (also from Amazon and love it), you can’t tell we have a cat in the house. This one, you can when you walk in. Same clumping litter too. The poop and pee clumps get stuck in the grate that cleans it. The litter ends up getting all over the floor underneath from when it dumps it into the drawer. Definitely not worth the money at all. Do not recommend it.

Extremely Regrettable
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Yuzawa August 13, 2024Review source: AmazonThere are multiple issues with this product while I was able to find ways around them, there is nothing I can do if the motor gives out shortly after the 30 day return policy. The pan is not flush with the upper portion thus creating a crack that litter and cat urine potentially gets into, especially if they like to pee in the corner of it. The wire mechanism that is to scoop the urine and feces into the little slot doesn’t get close enough to the bottom to actually get it all so you will still have to manually scoop it. All in all looking back this was just a very bad investment.

Works but shortcomings
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Anonymous August 10, 2024Review source: AmazonI have 2 cats. I’ve used the Scoopfree for a little over a month now. 1 cat won’t use it. The rake moves slowly and makes a moderate humming sound as it operates, so he’s wary of it. I therefore still have to have a regular cat box around too. I keep the Scoopfree in a coat closet converted into a kitty lav. I have a kitty shaped hole cut in the door for an entrance. With that setup, it seems maybe as loud as the microwave—not terrible, but you know when it’s running. With no high walls, my cat kicks litter out all over the place. It’d really benefit from a lid. Reviews saying this wastes mass amounts of litter do not exaggerate. My cat buries everything well and has healthy, solid droppings, so the rake doesn’t get gunked up hardly. The cat didn’t agree that crystal litter was litter, so I use a quality, small grained clay litter. Still, the box scoops tons of it into the tray. I initially used trash bags in the tray, but they sometimes snagged when pulling the tray out, and I didn’t like tossing out so much expensive litter. My situation has evolved to this: No liner in the tray. About every 2 days, I use my old kitty box scoop that just fits the size of the tray, and I scoop the tray out and dump the rest of the litter back in the box. I sweep around the box and dump that litter also in the box. So is it worth it since I’m still having to scoop? For ME, yes. I got this box because in my current situation, I might have to leave town suddenly because of family health issues. If a pet sitter isn’t available to check on my cats for a few days, this box can waste whatever litter it does, but my cats will have a clean box. So far, the box has scooped reliably. I haven’t had issues with it malfunctioning, and it seems perfectly safe (unlike other boxes I researched online that could injure a cat under the right conditions).

Definitely works

All things considered, works very well. -
Works as advertised
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.K.Peterson August 4, 2024Review source: AmazonI am satisfied with the performance of this product. It saves me a lot of time, there is no litter box smell coming from it, and the maintenance is minimal. I have 3 cats so I will be purchasing a second one.
One cat was apprehensive about the rake but used the box regardless. -
Don’t waste your money 👎🏻
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Jen Froeber August 3, 2024Review source: AmazonI’ve been using this litter box for about a year now and I just bought a Neakasa M1 automatic litter box. This one doesn’t let the litter clump before it cleans, then there is a big clump stuck to the bottom of the box. I end up having to scrape the bottom of this litter box at least twice a week. It wastes a ton of litter when it cleans also. Because it wastes so much, I now put on a disposable glove and pick out the clumps from the reservoir and dump the clean litter back in.

Don’t recommend
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Amazon Customer August 1, 2024Review source: AmazonDoes not work properly. Supposed to work with certain litter only it doesn’t. The crystals from the litter causes it to not function properly..
