Pros & Cons
Pros
- Odor Control: Several reviewers highlight the litter box's ability to control odors, especially when used with appropriate clumping litter. Some reviewers mention that they no longer notice any litter box smell in their homes.
- Cat Acceptance: Many cats readily accepted and used the litter box, with some even enjoying watching the cleaning process. Some reviewers noted that their cats preferred this box over other automatic models.
- Convenience: Customers appreciate the convenience of automatic scooping, which reduces the time and effort required for litter box maintenance. The easy-to-remove waste drawer is also frequently mentioned as a positive feature.
Cons
- Reliability Issues: A significant number of reviewers report that the litter box stopped working or experienced mechanical failures (such as the rake getting stuck) within a few months of purchase. Some reviewers mention that the plastic parts are prone to breaking.
- Noise Level: Many reviewers describe the litter box as loud or noisy during operation, which can be disruptive, especially in smaller living spaces or at night. The noise is often attributed to the motor or the rake scraping against the box.
- Ineffective Cleaning: Several reviewers note that the rake does not effectively clean the litter box, leaving waste behind or pushing clean litter into the waste bin. Some mention that the rake doesn't reach the bottom of the pan, leading to a build-up of soiled litter.

Huge waste of money and big disappointment
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Rebecca September 4, 2025Review source: AmazonI was willing to tolerate this product because, even though the rake had built up a lot of waste clumps, at least it did its job. Unfortunately, the rake fell off after just six months of use, which left me very disappointed.

Grate gets stuck frequently midway through cleaning
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Gwen Hilliard August 31, 2025Review source: AmazonIt stops randomly after a cat has used it and poop gets behind the grate. We clean it out every couple of days and this still happens. I’ve had numerous automatic litter boxes and this one is disappointing. It did not matter the amount of litter (a little, the regular, or a little extra) it still

Horrible Product, Waste of Money
Nam W August 23, 2025Review source: AmazonThis is a horrible product.
1. You cannot line the base. I tried lining the base with an XL liner and the rake caught on the plastic and misaligned from the track. I had to call PetSafe to get a replacement.
2. My biggest issue with the product is the amount of the litter it wastes. This box goes through almost two packages of litter a month. Every time I open the poop compartment, half of it is filled with loose litter, not pee clumps. After about 2-3 weeks I have to get more litter. This problem has gotten worse overtime, and it’s becoming expensive to continue using the box because of much litter it wastes.
3. It takes more time to clean this litter box than a normal litter box or their original self-cleaning litter-box, because you can’t line where your cats use the bathroom, only the poop compartment. This doesn’t make sense to me because the whole point of a self-cleaning litter box is to cut down on cleaning time. You have empty the compartment just as often as scooping a normal litter box, and then cleaning the box is more work because, once again, you cannot use a liner. Not only is this flaw inconvenient, but it’s dirty. The instruction card literally says to wash the base in a dishwasher…like is that a joke?
Especially with that dishwasher note, this product makes me not trust PetSafe.
I’ve used their original self-cleaning box for years, since 2021. I’m going to assume that most customers are coming over from using their original product. You’d think the company would release a good product for a loyal customer base, but this product is a waste of money.
I’ve had this product for six months and I’m throwing it away.

Cheaply made plastic – way too noisy
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Amazon Customer August 2, 2025Review source: AmazonIt is very noisy! And very slow to cycle!. It takes a lot of good litter into the waste bin with the clumps. I have only had it for a few days – just set it up – but I had to unstuck some small clumps from the rake. I am probably going to pay more for litter than I would like because of the wasted good litter that goes into the litter bin.

Rake issues
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Joni Ross July 31, 2025Review source: AmazonI have tried so many different clumping litters and still the same issues, the rake doesn’t clean the bottom of the litter pan and still leaves a lot behind. I am still scooping the litter box. I am beyond frustrated! I love the company and the products they make but this one they need to fix the rake issue! I even bought Tidy Cat for litter robot and it works ok but nothing will work if PetSafe doesn’t fix the rake issue. If they want someone to try their new and revised fix I would be glad to try it. I rescue/foster kitties so the need of an automated litter box is a HUGE help. Spending the money I did on this was a stretch and I get no donations and fully fund what I do out of pocket, so please fix the rake issues! Thanks

Don’t Buy!
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Emily Neeley July 30, 2025Review source: AmazonThanks to patient customer service I have had 4 of these in 4 1/2 months. Each one gets the rake stuck. I call for advice and they just want to send me a new one. I want to know how to fix it. This last one lasted about 4 hours before the rake got stuck. My opinion don’t buy it!

Garbage
Amazon Customer July 27, 2025Review source: AmazonBought one a couple years ago and it was very short lived. We decided to buy another one and had nothing but troubles with it. Petsafe would not refund us. Total garbage. Stay away from petsafe products. You’ve been warned

Not worth it

Worth the convenience if you don’t mind the cost
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Keanth R. July 26, 2025Review source: AmazonReally liked it while it worked, mine had developed issues and kept getting stuck within a couple of weeks. My cat loves this since it’s so big so i’m really disappointed that around $300 it managed to have stop being functional. Really convenient too since i didn’t have to scoop the litterbox daily and only emptied it after a week. The smell is unfortunately not as contained since my litter didnt fully coat sometimes so it ended up smelling like a zoo in my litter room. I personally would get one but not for the price i paid, maybe it’ll go on discount sometime but it’s worth it if you like the convenience of not scooping or have parents that have cats and you don’t want them scooping everyday!

Motor malfunctions
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Marcy July 26, 2025Review source: AmazonI originally bought 2 of these when we were planning to go on vacation. The motor in 1 started malfunctioning within a few weeks. We returned it and were sent a replacement, so that was actually the 3rd box. Currently 2 years later the motor on only 1 box out of the 3 still works. I have 2 boxes that I paid good money for that are now just regular me scooping them litter boxes.
