  1. Quite and a Cat Favorite

There are a lot of good and a few bad things about this litter box. To start is was super easy to setup out of the box. All I had to do was put the feet on it and add the drawer. The bad about assembly was setting up the app to connect to the box. The box and the app have to be on the same wifi network to connect. That was quite a pain because the box could only connect to a lower bandwidth that my phone was not connected to. Once I got that worked out everything was fine.

The box has a nice wide opening and compared to a popular robot box that I have, my cats actually preferred this one. The downside was the height to step in. I have a smaller cat 6lbs, that had a bit of an issues climbing in at first. Once she go the hang of it she just jumped in but litter flew everywhere. I ended up getting a small step stool to put in front of it to help.

The drawer on the bottom is large and the bags fit very nicely. I like when the box cycles, it actually cycles backwards and covers the opening of the drawer. This keeps the smell down to a minimum which is awesome. The box comes with a neutralizer which also nicely blocks oder.
There are a few bigger downsides. One big one is when the box spins there are a few vents on the back that the dry litter falls through. This can throw quite a bit of litter on the floor. Also there is no litter catch when the cat jumps in or out of the box. This also drops a lot of litter on the floor. It’s nice that the box came with a litter catch mat. this does catch most of the litter but not all. It would be nice if there was a step that would catch some of the litter.

Cleaning the box is easy. Litter just slides off the top ledge into the waste bin. when you change the bag it’s easy to just wipe that area clean.

This box is quite quiet and you hardly know it’s running. I really like it better then the more expensive robot I have so for the money it’s definitely a good value.

Honestly, this has been great. I recently had to get rid of my Litter Robot (it was time, it was first gen and it was having more and more issues and getting the bits to repair it by this point with the warranty expired…) and was missing having one auto in the house, so when this popped up as an option I decided to give it a go.

Set up was real easy – I didn’t even set up near the router but it all connected easily. And the cats are loving using it. I DO like that the app tells me when cats get in the box because I finally have proof that my gross tuxedo cat who LOVES climbing in and playing in litter HAS DONE EXACTLY THAT MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY HOUR OR SO HUBERT STOP BEING GROSS (see picture from this morning).

Anyway, it’s worked really well so far, was easy to set up, and my cats are enjoying it being open at top!

My cat was not having it at first. Especially since I swapped from a crystal litter to a clumping litter to make sure the pee-soaked litter got cleaned up too and didn’t just sit in the tray unsifted, since the machine is looking for large clumps which doesn’t happen with crystals.

But following the instructions included, I put her old litter box right next to it and let it get dirty. She stubbornly kept using it longer than I thought she would, but after few days she hesitantly started making use of the PetSafe box.

It was pretty easy to set up, and is relatively quiet. It is a bit loud overnight when it’s quiet in the house, so thankfully it also has a sleep mode you can set to not go off during certain hours.

My only complaint is that there was no paper instructions included, just a QR code to a digital download that I otherwise could not find on their site. My partner threw away said QR code so when a new indicator came up and I wanted to reference the manual I had to dig through my browser history to find it.

For such an expensive machine, I’d hope for at least a basic printed pamphlet personally. But that might just be me.
It’s otherwise been nice to not have to fret about cleaning the box as frequently.

  5. Win for PetSafe?

Although I’ve personally never owned an automatic litter box, I’ve always wanted one. Litter Robot used to be my dream litter box, but there was always one issue that was holding me back, which was that Litter Robot’s have a closed dome… which my cats absolutely HATE. I’ve been reading reviews on Pet Safe and I was willing to give them a try. Some common complaints people have about PetSafe is typically the functionality of the app and its connection to the litter box. I will say, however, I had absolutely no trouble at all connecting this litter box to my phone. Perhaps it may also be because I have mine so close to my router. Unsure. Besides this, this is a very sleek and compact design for an automatic litter box. I was surprised with how large it is, and was actually worried it wouldn’t be large enough for my kitties but it definitely is. Another aspect of this litter box that I enjoy is that I can use practically any kind of litter with it (as long as the pellet size fits in the back grates of the litter sifter). The waste bin is also quite large, and this particular model also shows you when it’s full and need replacing. It seems that the litter will also be easy to replace. I really do think this model is a win for PetSafe, and has proved to be superior in many ways to what I’ve heard of other models. Yes, it is expensive, but you’d be paying just as much if not more for a Litter Robot that doesn’t do anything more than this does. All I can say is, I might be jealous my cats have a nicer toilet than I do now!

  6. Self cleaning

This automatic self cleaning cat litter box is easy to set up and super convenient. It arrived quick and setting it up was easy. It offer more space and fit well for my cat. It comes with an app for better monitor of my cat usage of this litter box. It can be control by the app or just manually push the button on the litter box. It features safety sensors in case the cat get into the box while it’s cleaning. It’s bulky but it’s lightweight. It also comes with bags and the litter mat. So this is a great cat litter box for my cat. It’s a nice upgrade from his old fashioned cat litter box. It save me time and effort on doing the cleaning of the litter box. Of course, the convenience comes at the cost. This unit is high cost compare to similar model

As a multi-cat household, the daily chore of scooping litter was a constant battle. When I stumbled upon the Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box, I was cautiously optimistic. After several weeks of use, I can confidently say it’s been a game-changer.

    Pros:
    * Truly Automatic: The raking mechanism works flawlessly, sweeping waste into the covered compartment a set time after your cat uses the box. This significantly reduces odor and keeps the litter area much cleaner.
    * Open-Air Design: The “OpenSky” aspect is a major plus. Cats seem to prefer the open design, and it helps with ventilation, further minimizing odors.
    * Crystal Litter: The included crystal litter does an excellent job of absorbing urine and dehydrating solid waste. It lasts much longer than traditional clay litter, reducing the frequency of replacements.
    * Reduced Odor: This is the most significant benefit. The combination of automatic raking and crystal litter dramatically cuts down on litter box odor. My home smells significantly fresher.
    * Easy Maintenance: Changing the litter tray is simple. Just remove the disposable tray and replace it with a new one.
    * Relatively Quiet: The raking mechanism isn’t silent, but it’s not overly loud either. It’s a low hum that’s easily ignored.

    Cons:
    * Crystal Litter Cost: The crystal litter refills can be expensive, especially for multi-cat households. However, the extended lifespan of the litter somewhat offsets the cost.
    * Disposable Trays: The disposable trays contribute to waste. While convenient, it’s not the most eco-friendly option.

  8. Awesome Automatic Litter Box So Far

    Vine Reviewer April 3, 2025
    Review source: Amazon

This arrived very quickly. Directions for set-up were very simple. This is my first self cleaning litterbox, and after all the horror stories I had heard about decapitated cats, I was very apprehensive. I was also worried that my cat would not take to it, since she’s had the same littler box for 10 years. I left both litter boxes in the house for a few days, but put this new one in the same spot where her old one was and moved it. I also left her old one get dirty. I finally withdrew the old box, and it was a seamless transition…not even a single accident. I checked the drawer and it showed she was using the new box.
The cleaning function is very quiet, and I like the open top design and the safety sensors. I feel much better about this litter box after using it. I like that any kind of litter can be used with this box. Aside from having to put down an extension cord along the wall to her designated litter box spot, moving to this litter box was a seamless transition and I thought it was going to be a massive ordeal. While this box is pretty pricey, I feel that cumulative time it saves as well as the elimination of odors will be worth it in the long run. My cat seems very happy with the new box and I am thrilled with the convenience of no scooping.

  9. Good while it lasted

One year update: It was good while it lasted. I adopted a kitten back in July so this was a dream for a two cat household. About two weeks ago the liner popped up and it got caught in a non stop cleaning cycle. All of the litter slid under the liner and down into the catch basin. I took it apart, cleaned it, popped the liner back in, and it worked. Until it happened again this week while I was out of town. Thankfully my son was able to stop by and put down a manual litterbox until I returned from my week long trip. I guess it’s time to find an alternative. It was a good stepping stone to automation, I’ve come to love the scoop free life, just wish this would’ve lasted longer as a cheaper alternative to the “more popular” brand choice. My son owns that one and has had zero issues with his. Expensive? Yes, but typically you get what you pay for.
One month update: I just deep cleaned the box and it took me all of maybe 10 minutes. No regrets, I really like it. Looks like they are continually updating the app too so that’s good. I won’t be buying the deodorizer cartridges. They stink to me, like spraying Axe body spray on a sweaty unwashed body. If you’re looking for an automated box and the price is right, go for it.
Orignal post: I’ve only had this for a week now but I wanted to provide feedback based on my first impressions. I will update my review after I’ve had it for a month and have gone through a thorough cleaning. I like that it comes with two deodorizer cartridges (although I’m not sure that I personally will be using those long term), a roll of bags, and a nice mat to catch litter (although I have one just like it from my previous manual litterbox, it works well). My cat, who is an actual scaredy cat, took to it pretty easily after a few hours. There are tips for acclimation in the documentation but I didn’t use them, I figured this will be a part of her life now so she has to get used to it as it is (with full movement). First, allow me to provide a little background to provide some context. I spent some time looking for an automatic litterbox a few months ago, but ultimately was hesitant to spend the money, especially since I only have one cat. My son pulled the trigger on a more expensive (popular) model by a different company, and after having is for several weeks told me it was 100% worth the money (as did the reviews), so I went back to looking but honestly didn’t want to spend as much money as he had (which was why I was ecstatic when this showed up for me in Vine!!). What I found during both searches was concern around some models (NOT this one) that weren’t properly detecting cats. I mention that to say it was a concern for me as well. But with this model, all concerns were quickly eliminated. Every single time my cat went up to this, curious as it went through the cleaning cycle, IT STOPPED ON A DIME. EVERY. TIME. First concern immediately eliminated. Set up was simple and pretty straight forward, however one of the steps stuck with me as room for improvement. When setting up the unit, there is a step where you have to push a button to weigh the unit after you’ve added the litter. This is what helps it determine the weight of your cat when it enters. Tracking a cat’s weight helps to alert you to health issues sooner rather than later, if you’re wondering what you might need that for. It would be nice for the button to either light up or emit an audio signal to let you know it worked. I wasn’t sure if it did what it needed to do or not, and for a while I thought it wasn’t working properly because my cat’s weight was incorrect in the app. But what I found was it is correct, it was just when my cat would partially step in the unit out of curiosity, it was still weighing her but it wasn’t her full weight because her whole body wasn’t inside. So the app would show my cat has “gone potty” but show her weight at 3.5 lbs (she actually weights 8.5 lbs), but only because she didn’t fully step inside. The other thing is the potty duration time in the app is reflected in feet and inches instead of minutes and seconds. Example: 3’30” instead of 3:30. Minor annoyance and not a factor if you don’t want to use the app. For those wondering if you really need the app, I will say this. There was one day that my cat kept running to the litterbox, to the point that I was wondering if I might need to run her to the vet. She was actually using the bathroom (I ended up having to empty the litter bag). If I didn’t have the app I wouldn’t have even know. Turns out she was fine, whatever it was had passed by morning, but still, it was nice to see an issue because of the app. Early warnings about health are nice where you can get them. If I remember correctly, wifi access requires a 2.4 wireless network. If you’re not technical and don’t know what that means, you might have some issues connecting. If you’re on newer equipment/network, it shouldn’t be a problem. I didn’t have any problems with set up, but if I had, I also work in IT so wouldn’t have been difficult to troubleshoot. I have not utilized customer support so I can’t speak to the quality. The included documentation was sufficient. It seems like within the app some specific help information is lacking with this particular model, which makes sense if it’s new, but honestly I haven’t dug too deeply into that either. This is getting lengthy but the only other thing I want to address is litter choice. It was easy for me because my son had already done the work. I know he’s super picky and had gone through a few brands to find one that worked well with his automatic litter box (low dust and minimal tracking). PetSafe has litter, but it doesn’t get very good reviews (3.5), so I went with his suggestion. I’m using Boxie Pro Deep clean clay litter and it is working great. So far I don’t see any “sticky” spots that need to be cleaned within the unit. I will provide a brief update after I’ve got one month of use under my belt, but so far, I’m very happy with it!

  10. Quiet auto litter box with smart notifications

    Review source: Amazon

Fairly easy setup on this litter box. It is smaller than our previous robotic litterbox but seems to provide adequate space for all three of our adult cats (not at the same time, of course). It connects to a smart app, though it seems as if that only provides information and is not essential for its operation. It operates quietly – much more quietly than our former high-end auto box. The cats acclimated to it within a few hours. The vertical grate system to separate the used from unused litter seems a bit less efficient than the meshed system of our previous unit. The box comes with short garbage bags to line the drawer. Regular kitchen garbage bags are much deeper but fit the unit if you don’t want to order special bags. With three cats, we will be emptying this just about every day, but it is still better than the endless scooping. While the unit itself is made of sturdy plastic, some of the components, including the drawer and the litter sifter cover, are made of very thin plastic and must be handled with care.
