Philips Beauty Epilator Series 8000 for Women with 3 Accessories

I’ve been using an epilator for years. My last two were Philips Satin perfect. They each lasted about 5 years before they died. A couple problems I’d noticed was that i had a lot of broken-off hairs that didn’t get epilated, but rather broken off near the skin surface, and also it seemed to miss a lot of hairs completely.

I decided to stick with Philips, despite the weaknesses of the previous model, and ordered this Series 8000, since it seemed close to what I’ve used in the past. Well, it’s MUCH better than my old one.

I’ve just done my armpits, and it went WAY better than my old one. I got almost all the hairs in the first pass. It even got hairs that weren’t very long. It is quieter. It is faster. I think they have improved the design and materials of the rolling tweezer mechanism, to stretch the skin for better access to the hairs?

I’m very pleased, so far. I’ll do legs and bikini area and update this review, if necessary. But so far, it’s pretty good!

Note: I’ve been epilating regularly for 10 years with first Emjoi, and then Philips epilators. The last 3 or so years, I epilate exclusively (no waxing, no shaving). It is much less painful than it was at the beginning. And since I have completely stopped shaving, I no longer have those extra-painful sessions, like when you epilate for the first time after going back to shaving.

I also used to frequently get ingrown hairs, when I’d shave, or alternate between shaving and epilating. The ingrown hairs are rare, now. I think it is because the hairs are finer and less prone to pushing back into the skin.

No, this is not pain-free. It is wayyyyy less painful if you keep up with it. The way the hair cycle works, I’m now only ripping out maybe half the hairs at any given time. Half the hair-ripping = half the pain. And it lasts a lot longer than shaving. If I epilate once per week, it is almost painless, and leaves me smooth. It is way cheaper and less mess than waxing, and much easier to do by myself. It works out to be a lot cheaper and less wasteful than shaving, too, since I don’t have to replace blades, and one $60 epilator lasts 5 years.

If you are shopping for a replacement epilator, this one is great. If you are new to epilating, I recommend this machine, and also some topical anesthetic (like spray-on benzocaine) for the first time. Just keep up with it, and you will find it gets way less painful, and is much better than other hair removal methods.

This is my third epilator that I’ve had since I began epilating. The last two were Emjoi corded epilators. I forget the name of the first one but the last one was an Erase. The Erase had been a very good epilator (at least I had thought it was) and lasted quite awhile, but a couple of weeks ago the gears gave out I think and the head stopped spinning. Uh-oh, time to find a new epilator!

I had always avoided cordless models because I was always fearful that the battery wouldn’t last for a whole epilation session, but knowing that battery technology has improved quite a lot the last few years, I decided to take a leap into the waters of cordless epilators.

From the first moment I started epilating with this epilator, I new it was going to be a game changer for me. It is incredibly efficient in it’s hair removal, maybe it’s because of the ceramic blades, but I could tell immediately that I wasn’t going to have to go over the same areas over, and over, and over to get the hairs. It literally wastaking 2-3 passes and it was getting practically all the hairs!

Now about that led light! With the Erase it would never fail that no matter how hard I tried to get everything, the next day I would end up seeing a patch of hair somewhere that it seemed I had completely missed! The light on this completely surprised me. I thought it would be nice, but not terribly useful but girl was I wrong. The light really shows the hairs that haven’t been removed so the likelihood of missing hairs (as long as your thorough) are much less.

Other things I noticed is that it’s much quieter than the Erase was. Also, instead of tiny plastic gears to drive the head, this unit uses a driveshaft system which feels like it will last a lot longer than the gears would and that’s a big plus in my book! See photos.

Another plus is that everything with the Erase took longer so I tended to not epilate as often but with this one’s ease of use I find that I epilate some every night and I can tell that I am going to be much smoother on a day to day basis that I was with the last two epilators I owned!

As far as cons go……

I do really wish it would operate in corded as well as cordless mode because the battery will definitely fail eventually and then it will probably have to be discarded which is really unfortunate.

Another con is the charger is a little difficult to plug in. A charge dock would have been a real plus for this sleek little epilator.

So yeah, I guess that’s it.

In the end I guess I would say that if you have reservations about spending this much on an epilator I would say get over it because this unit represents really good value. This is a serious tool for anyone interested committed to hair removal.

I’m assuming that since I’m a man. I’m not using this thing right!? anyway I almost feel embarrassed about saying this. I’m a gorilla, it’s been a dream to not have to deal with this much hair. As luck would have it. I seen my first add for, this cruel device called an EPILATOR. At first site I seen it’s jagged teeth, sticking out of that smiling face. But instead of banishing that thing to some dark bottom pit in my garage. I did like every dumb teenager in a horror film. I said what’s the worst that can happen. Wasn’t that the understatement of my life. Change 15 hours before first use. That gives you 40 minutes of torture ( sorry ) run time.PLENTY of time to come to my senses. Like any other DUMB A** man would say. “ that’s more then enough time to remove ALL the hair from my body. Well needless to say! Two 15 hour charges and 40 minutes first run, an hour and half, second run! I’ve got my arms 3/4 finished. HOW DO YOU WOMEN GO THOUGH S#|t like this?? YES MY GIRLFRIEND IS GETTING A GREAT LAUGH ? AT MY STUPIDITY ?, she is so SMART!!
She said;” I’m going to see how it works for you before I attempt using it” another red flag I missed, SO THIS IS WARE IT STAND.
I can’t QUIT!! I would never live it down.

Plan and simple. I’ve just more hair then the next guy. I’m assuming that with daily use I should be HAIR FREE IN TWO YEARS ??

I’m making a pillow with all my removed hair. Just so my girlfriend has a body pillow to cuddle with when I’m dead and gone from this TORTURE DEVICE.

My Braun Silk Epil 9 finally broke down and while it is under warranty, the mailing away for repairs part left me without an epilator. I was almost getting ready to buy the same exact model as a replacement when I stumbled upon this guy. I am so elated that I did! As another review mentioned – the ceramic tweezer makes all the difference! (As opposed to the metal ones on the Braun). I also find the longer handle to be easier to maneuver and the slimmer grip feels more comfortable than the short and stubby Silk Epil 9. As far as the type of hair is concerned- I have super fine arm hair and it did just fine with those but I also have coarse dark hair elsewhere. I am used to making several passes with the Braun, even accounting for the fact that it has a wider head. Epilating with the Philips was an absolute breeze in comparison! I was able to do most areas with a single pass. Now, I am an experienced epilat-ee, so maybe that had something to do with how quickly the hair was removed… but in either case, this performed a Thousand times better than the Epil 9. Highly recommended! If you are deciding between this and the Braun, definitely go with this one! It’s cheaper and works so much better!

I was using it at the wrong angle and it was ripping out a little bit of skin. I have a high pain tolerance and I thought it was normal. Then I watched a tutorial/review on youtube because not much hair was getting removed, from a girl showing how she uses it and realized my mistake lol. This thing is AWESOME!!! I was always so scared of getting bikini waxes, and I always get itchy razor burn from shaving my pits and bikini area. After a few weeks of using this I am baby smooth down there and my armpits look so nice compared to when i used to shave them! So upset that I just found out about these at 27 XD

Bought this to remove hair in some spot areas. Like (apparently) all epilators these are advertised only for women, likely because men (and I’m sure trangender women) tend to have much coarser & thicker body hair.

So the main thing I wanted it for was to remove hair from the backs of my hands and the tops of my feet and it works great there. The first time you use it it’s decently painful but follow up treatment 4 weeks later was barely painful at all.

I also used it to remove the hair from my wrist where I wear my watch and it works pretty well there but again it’s painful especially the first time.

I also found it’s great to remove stray hairs following a waxing session on my chest. Since it’s only getting sparse hairs it’s barely painful at all.

I have thin and somewhat sparse hair on my upper arms and shoulders it works pretty well there but is somewhat awkward to use there.

One warning though, I let my curiosity get the better of me and tried going after the beard hair on my upper neck and holy hell was that painful. Not only that but it quickly bogged down the motor. It’s definitely not going to work on beard hair but I can’t really fault that since it’s not designed for it.

I tried the flat skin attachment and maybe I was using it wrong but it didn’t seem to work at all.

This is a good epilator but I had a Braun epilator but it broke(after years) and rather than pay over $100 for a new one, I got this one because it has more tweezers than Braun’s cheapest model.

However, these tweezers are plastic but the Braun was a mix of plastic and metal.

Though this one is so much easier to clean, it takes longer to epilate and doesn’t pull out the hairs as easily!
A little disappointed but good enough to keep, I just have to give myself extra time even using it.

Also, it does not work well for me in the shower, for my skin, it makes it harder for the epilator tweezers to grab the wet hair. Not sure if it’s just me.

After shaving the top rims of my ears of wild weird strands for years, I noticed the hair growing back thicker and stronger. I read the reviews on this epi device and purchased Phillips quality, with the ceramic rotators – did the job beautifully, ‘plucking’ so as to weaken the follicle and eventually kill it off. BONUS: On occasion I have been known to manscape the undercarriage and decided to give this a go on the twig and berries. Could not have done a better job. Yes, there was the odd eye-watering moment, and you will have some red dots where the roots used to be, but redness was gone overnight. So much smoother than a shave and none of that prickliness for days after. To shave is human but to Epi is divine. This is the droid you are looking for.

As other people have noted, the ceramic tweezing discs in this depilator are ever-so-slightly rough which gives them WAY more grip than normal stainless-steel tweezing discs. Depilating still hurts a bunch the first time when you have a bunch of hair to remove at once, but it’s productive pain because you can tell this thing is *actually* removing hairs on the first or second try, instead of just yanking on them dozens of times while accomplishing nothing. My manly bits are just *ridiculously* smooth now. (and also the undersides of my wrists and the tops of my feet.)

10/10, would buy again — in fact, *did* buy again, because I believe in having spares of things that work well. (god knows they’ll be discontinued by the time I need to replace them, because that’s just how the world works.)

This product was terribly painful at first. Literally ripping my hair from my legs. I had to epilate my legs in small patches at first just to tolerate the pain. It was horrible. I thought I had a Hugh pain tolerance, nope. My husband, who was extremely interested in the product, watched and made fun of my hesitation and teeth grinding from the pain. I didn’t even consider getting those sensitive parts like down on the ankle, inner thigh or behind my knees. Strictly shin and calf. But I’m a hard head and refused to not use it because then I would have wasted money. So, every couple days for about 2 weeks I’d give it a go and it got easier and quicker as the weeks went by. The pain became totally bearable, even down low on the ankles. Now, (2 or so ish months later) I only use it every couple weeks. My hair is growing in much slower and it seems thinner. To be clear about what we started with… dark, very thick hair, grew back quickly- within a couple days it was noticeable again! I hate shaving, but this is quick and hassle free. And after using it a bit, pain free… mostly.
I started using it in the shower spraying water directly on the part I was epilating. Now, I shower first, dry off, and then epilate in the bathroom over a towel… because hair will go everywhere. Whatever works for you!
To be honest, I still don’t do my inner thigh or behind my knees. I’m not yet brave enough for that pain but I’ve worked my way up to just past the knees on the front and sides!
If it hurts, work through it, it will get better!!!
