Many customers appreciate its advanced features, such as the effective vacuuming and mopping capabilities, quiet operation, and smart navigation system. Users have highlighted its ability to handle multiple surfaces, from high-pile carpets to hardwood floors, and have noted the convenience of the self-cleaning RockDock Ultra.

However, some users have pointed out several issues, including app functionality, reliability concerns over time, and struggles with certain types of debris or obstacles like wires and small thresholds. Despite these drawbacks, a significant portion of users find the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra to be a valuable addition to their homes, especially for those with busy lifestyles or multiple pets.

PROS

  • Advanced Navigation and Mapping: The smart navigation system allows the vacuum to map out rooms accurately, avoid obstacles, and clean efficiently. Users appreciate features like customizable no-go zones and detailed room mapping. One reviewer noted, “The mapping is heads and shoulders above any of the others! Being able to accurately map out rooms so you can create no-go zones and create cleaning schedules is unparalleled.”

CONS

  • Reliability Concerns: A few reviews have mentioned that the vacuum’s performance can decline over time, with issues such as random stopping or struggles with certain obstacles. As one user noted, “After a month, the vacuum randomly stops, making it hard to recommend over cheaper alternatives.”

  • Difficulty with Wires and Small Obstacles: Several users have highlighted the vacuum’s struggles with wires and small thresholds, which can lead to tangling or missed areas. A reviewer mentioned, “It sucks up wires and spins in circles over them, getting hopelessly tangled.”

  • High Maintenance Needs: Despite the self-cleaning dock, some users feel the vacuum requires frequent maintenance, such as cleaning the water tanks and mop. A user shared, “The water tanks have to be filled and emptied every 2x I use it.”

  • Price Point: The Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra is considered pricey by some users, who question if the features justify the cost. One user expressed, “I wouldn’t recommend it. Keeps losing maps and doesn’t pick up all the things from carpet and leaves it dirty.”

Needs improvement but pretty good

**Roborock does do frequent updates. I suspect many of these will be fixed eventually

I bought this at full price, I did not get this for free. Overall, it’s decent but needs work.

Notable issues I’ve found:

– Flexibrush rarely works, if ever. This is seen in Roborock’s own promotional video.

– When it’s vacuuming in a dark area, it turns on a front ‘fill light’ that is very, very bright. This makes sleeping difficult. You can turn it off but that greatly reduces its ability to avoid things.

– Take pictures of your pet? Why would I use a camera that takes blurry 240p pictures? Video is equally poor.

– Thresholds, even small ones, are often a problem.

– If you use an individual room clean or ‘Pin and Go’, if it fails once or twice, it will never try again, it won’t move and say “can’t reach target point.”

– Noticeably taller than other Roborocks which hinders it from going under shorter furniture.

– Sometimes completely rams into things (I’ve seen this with different colored table legs several times).

– The lens you need to clean on the vacuum scratch very easily.

– If it’s drying the mop and you set it to vacuum or go somewhere, when it comes back, it’ll forget it was drying the mop and leave it wet.

– Voice commands are often awkward. “Hey Rocky, vacuum the dining room.” It will then wash the mop and go vacuum–but I told it to vacuum, not do a complete clean, so why is it washing the mop if it’s not going to use it?

Has not disappointed!! Loving it!

Waited in anticipation for the release of this S8 MaxV Ultra robot vac and mop unit. It’s a hefty 30 lbs, but it actually helps it navigate thresholds and carpets better than are older 6 lb Shark. The dock is an important component to automating the mop cleaning and dust bin emptying. Say bye bye to mixing soap and water. It has a separate soap dispenser. Clean and dirty water bins are easy to lift, fill, empty, install. No leaks! The bot program is 100 times better than our Shark, which we liked, but often called stupid as the Shark would often bang into the same thing multiple times, get stuck, and get lost. The S8 MaxV Ultra uses a color camera, built-in headlight, and lidar in addition to a typical bot bumper. But it never hits anything! We did get it stuck once, but it was our fault. So reliable, we can let it run and forget it is even there. It will approach, slow down, and maybe gently touch to confirm…. once… Way more “intelligent” in mapping and following the map! Map has more details like the AI feature will auto-mark carpets and rugs. You can place furniture icons, no-go zones, invisible walls, and other things on the map. App has features that no other bots have. Remote Control with POV! Ya, literally, take your bot for a drive remotely while looking through it’s front camera! Built-in voice assistant allows you to talk directly to the bot even if the Internet is down. Haven’t played with the pet search a bunch yet, as our cats know how to evade well. Overall, superb job out of the box!
Biggest complaint is the lack of plain directions. Lots of picture based directions with a separate booklet to explain the pics. App directions aren’t much better. Basic instructions are there. How to use features are not. Would love to see directions on how to search for your pet. I think I figured it out, but it isn’t readily obvious. If you can setup your own tech gear, you’re good to go. If the TV remote baffles you, you’re gonna need some help.

This is a must for every smart home!

I’ve owned a Roborock S7 since 2021 and I can’t believe how massive of an upgrade this thing is compared to the S7 that was just released a few years ago!

Details about the home: 3,000 sq ft, 4 bed, 4 bath, all tiles floor with area rugs in a several rooms. 2 dogs and a cat.

Coming from the S7, the dock was new for me. Setting it up took just a few short minutes. With the S7, I was never able to get the entire house cleaned without having to stop, empty the dust bin, refill the water and washing the mop since it had a decent area to cover. Definitely the biggest upgrade I’m looking forward to. I filled up the clean water tank, plugged in the dock and it was ready to go.

The setup was brief and easy through the app. One feature that I appreciated immediately was the room mapping feature that I did not have on the S7. I was able to get every room mapped quickly in about 30 minutes. During the mapping, I got a preview of the AI object detect feature. It was effective in showing and avoiding shoes, phone cords and the dogs.

As far as cleaning goes, it’s amazing. I love that I can be almost hands-free for the maintenance part of it. I have it set on washing the mop every 15 minutes to ensure the mop stays sanitized while mopping the house. The corner and edge cleaning works incredibly well and picks up dirt in areas that my S7 was never able to.

I would recommend this for every home!

Amazing. Truly a work of art for todays technology for a vacuum!

I was soooo excited for the new S8MaxV Ultra from Roborock! Now after exploring all its features in just a day, I have to say, I don’t think houseworks will get any easier after this! This little machine packs a punch when it comes to keeping my floors clean and tidy.

First off, its navigation system is impressive. It’s like having a smart assistant for cleaning—no more bumping into furniture or getting stuck in corners, it actively avoids things in its way with such little hesitation and precision. Even able to tell piles of water, and retracts the vacuum parts. Plus, I can set boundaries easily with the included markers, so it knows where to clean and where not to.

The suction power is a whole other level! It handles everything from pet hair to crumbs with no problem at all, there’s not a thing it did not pickup.

One of the best things is the app control. The whole interface is so smooth and intuitive, I can schedule cleanings when I’m out, so I come home to a spotless place.

If it stays how it’s performing now for a long time, I would seriously recommend this to everyone I know who can afford this. My floors and carpets will always be clean, with so little effort on my part.

This one has EVERYTHING

As a former owner of the Roborock S6 MaxV and the S8 Pro Ultra, I have been exposed to all the cool stuff Roborock has to offer. The S6 MaxV had LiDAR and the ability to remote control it and see through its camera, like a drone you can use to remotely check on your pets. The S8 Pro Ultra had superior suction, mopping, superior rollers for clearing pet hair, auto empty dock, etc. The S8 MaxV Ultra has it all.

The addition of the detergent dispenser is HUGE for me, as that can be an annoying step to have to take when refilling the Pro Ultra clean water tank. I also like new form factors for the water basins and the dust bag. The additional arm to mop into corners does an excellent job, and the dock even has a tiny cleaner for it, which is adorable.

As an owner of multiple shedding dogs, having a daily maintenance robot vacuum and mop is huge for me, and this one has every feature I have wanted from all previous models, as well as some new conveniences.

IDK

Ours came broken, flexi arm doesn’t work sounds like a grinding mess. Also a bad burning smell when it tried to empty the dust bin. Also the navigation of it wasn’t all that great, it bumped into everything fairly hard. Maybe I just got a dud….

Update ordered a second one and this one came with a grinding sound when it turned. Will try for a third time and then I’m done

Average product with terrible customer service

Good luck getting someone to help if you have an issue. Roborock customer service is nearly no existent. It’s basically s bunch of unhelpful hoops you’re forced to jump through.

Update:
The Roborock Flexi Lite Wet and Dry Vacuum included with this purchase stopped working after less than two months. To be fair it still vacuums but the screen just didn’t work. Now it a guess what mode you’re in, you have to open it to check water status.

Absolutely love my S8 MaxV Ultra!

I recently got my hands on the Roborock S8 MaxV ultra and love it! It’s a total game changer! This little guy vacuums and mops around the house, and it actually does both super well. No more sweeping and mopping for me!

The coolest part is the dock. It cleans the mop with hot water (which is great for getting rid of all the grime) but also dries it out afterwards so there’s no musty smell. It’s basically self-cleaning which is so convenient.

It’s also really quiet compared to other vacuums I’ve had, which means I can let it run at night while I sleep or take calls and it doesn’t bother me at all.

Seriously, if you’re thinking about getting a robot vacuum, the S8 MaxV Ultra is the way to go. It might be a bit pricey, but it’s totally worth it for how much time and effort it saves. Love it!

Worthy Upgrade to S6 MaxV

This is replacing a Roborock S6 MaxV that’s performed dutifully for the last few years but for whatever reason has started to get itself trapped, often losing orientation and not being able to complete a full cleaning cycle without manual intervention.

Initial impressions are very positive, like the S6 MaxV it’s replacing we have it automated through Alexa to clean the house whenever we leave the and stop (return to dock) as soon as we return. The initial mapping this S8 created was incredibly precise, with a cleaning path so structured and efficient its like it knew our home’s layout already (hmm?).

This is the first time we’ve used an auto-dock and so far it’s a significant quality of life upgrade as it automates the water refilling / mop cleaning that I’d typically neglect just due to all the manual work involved. Our floors going forward are going to be that much cleaner because of this. I imagine the waste water bucket will get grimy over time so it may be a good idea to spray some disinfectant / bleach inside to inhibit bacteria growth (our next house will definitely be plumbed to take advantage of the auto-auto dock variant).

It seems every time there’s a new Roborock release there’s a contingent of paranoid delusionals lamenting the fact that there’s cameras for remote viewing, microphones for voice controls, and other potentially privacy infringing capabilities. If you’re one of these people I don’t know how to break this to you but get over yourself, you’re not that interesting. Rogue Roborock employees, black hat hackers, or *gasp* the CCP!!1 have better things to do than check if your carpet matches the drapes.

Time will tell if the S8 will start to degrade in its performance like our S6, but thus far it’s more efficient in both it’s battery use (cleans more surface area of our home before recharging, but still can’t complete the entire floor on a single charge), produces a deeper clean, and is more convenient to maintain. It’s basically an upgrade in all areas but of course is also more than double the price.

Many issues. Please consider this before purchase

Baffled by the tech and bugs in this state of the art bot. Issues that plagued rooms and others in the early days. I’ve had several bots for my car garage and airplane hangar and this has been by far the worst.

– cannot find dock
– cannot mop without streaks
– cannot vacuum without a failure
– leaves debris all over and around dock
