Summary of Customer Reviews

The Samsung 49″ Odyssey G9 G95C DQHD 240Hz 1ms(GtG) DisplayHDR 1000 Curved Gaming Monitor has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews from users across various platforms. Many users appreciate its expansive screen real estate, exceptional resolution, and immersive gaming experience. The monitor’s size and curvature have been highlighted as key features, offering a unique and engaging experience for gaming, productivity, and multimedia consumption.

Users frequently praise the monitor for its vibrant colors, sharp image quality, and high refresh rate, which together enhance the visual experience. The ability to split the screen into multiple sections has been particularly beneficial for those using it for work, allowing them to replace multi-monitor setups with a single, streamlined display. However, some users have reported issues with dead pixels and other quality control problems, although these incidents appear to be exceptions rather than the rule.

PROS

  • Immersive Curved Display: The 1000R curvature provides an immersive experience, particularly noted in gaming and multimedia use. “The curve allows your entire peripherals to be consumed,” remarked one user.
  • High Resolution and Vibrant Colors: The 5120×1440 resolution and DisplayHDR 1000 contribute to vivid and sharp visuals. A user commented, “The colors are absolutely stunning,” enhancing both work and play environments.
  • Versatile Multi-Tasking: The wide screen allows for efficient multi-tasking, enabling users to open multiple windows side by side. This feature has been highlighted as a major productivity booster.
  • High Refresh Rate and Low Input Lag: The 240Hz refresh rate and low response time offer a smooth and responsive experience, essential for competitive gaming.
  • Robust Build Quality: The monitor’s sturdy construction, including a heavy support base, ensures stability. One user noted, “The support base is a steel plate, nice and heavy,” which adds to the product’s durability.

CONS

  • Quality Control Issues: Some users reported receiving units with dead pixels or stuck pixels. One review stated, “The monitor came with one stuck pixel,” highlighting concerns over consistency in quality.
  • Large Physical Size: The monitor’s significant size can be overwhelming and requires ample desk space. A user noted, “It’s just so much bigger than any of the photos make it look,” advising potential buyers to ensure they have enough space.
  • Glare and Reflection Issues: The screen’s finish can cause glare, especially in well-lit rooms, which may detract from the viewing experience. This issue has been pointed out by several users, who suggest placing the monitor away from bright light sources.
  • Limited Compatibility with Older Games and Consoles: Some older games and consoles do not support the ultrawide format, leading to stretched or cut-off visuals. This limitation can be a downside for users hoping to use the monitor across all their devices.
  • Cost and Value Considerations: While the monitor offers many high-end features, it is also priced accordingly, which might not justify the investment for all users. Some reviews suggest considering alternative models if budget constraints are a concern.

Who Should Buy?

The Samsung 49″ Odyssey G9 is ideal for gamers, creative professionals, and multitaskers who need extensive screen space and superior visual quality. It’s particularly suitable for those who engage in high-end gaming, graphic design, video editing, or any profession requiring multiple applications to be visible simultaneously. The immersive experience provided by the curved screen and high resolution makes it a great choice for individuals who prioritize visual excellence and efficiency in their work setup.

User Recommendation

Most users highly recommend the Samsung Odyssey G9 for its outstanding performance in both gaming and productivity tasks. The consensus is that the monitor’s benefits, such as its expansive and immersive display, outweigh the drawbacks like potential quality control issues or high cost. Users emphasize that the monitor is a worthwhile investment for those who can accommodate its size and cost, as it significantly enhances both work and entertainment experiences. However, potential buyers should be prepared for its size and the need for a substantial desk space.

Awesome Monitor

I just received this monitor so I cannot speak to its longevity, but my initial impression is – I love it! I replaced a 36″ widescreen monitor with this one and the difference is significant. I multitask quite a bit and have a lot of windows open all the time and now I can have a lot more on the screen real estate. The ease of viewing is excellent due to the curvature. I will note that this thing is heavy for a monitor. It arrived in a large box inside of another large box. Setup was relatively easy, took me about 10 minutes from unboxing to having it online though I must admit that it took me a minute or two to figure out how to turn it on and select the correct input. Bottom line – I love it despite the relatively high cost. Note that I am not a gamer so I can’t speak to the gaming quality, but as a person who works in the IT industry and has to stare at a screen 12 hours a day, this thing is worth it to me.

I was so worried about getting this monitor

I bought this monitor knowing all of the issues. I replaced my 34 Ultrawide and this monitor is just amazing. I did upgrade the firmware to 1005 and that seamed to resolve the flickering in HDR mode with adaptive Sync enabled. Windows 10 HDR is so buggy I only enable HDR within the game if it supports it. My monitor has had no hardware defects so far (no light bleed, no dead pixels, no cracked screen). I have a RTX 2080ti and it can handle this resolution for gaming. I did have issues with the colors not looking right so I lowered the RED to 40 on the monitor from 50 and that resolved the color issues with blue being more purple. I am running this at 240Hz with no issues and with G-SYNC enabled. Super smooth in games. It is a bummer that games that don’t support 32:9 create a black boarder on the ends but I do have a second 4K monitor that I use for games that I can use. The other issue with this monitor because it is a VA panel is the ghosting smearing that happens but I don’t notice it when I game. If you are thinking about moving towards this monitor do it give it a try it is worth it as of 9-2020 after Samsung fixed a lot of the QC issues.

Loved the monitor, but....

I loved this monitor, but I had to send it back because it had a dead pixel, and for $900 dollars, this is not acceptable in my opinion. Though I will order another one once Amazon gives me refund.

The Pros of this monitor:
– Very bright
– High contrast
– Very colorful
– Big screen real estate for work
– Fast (240 Hz) Refresh Rate
– Response times are fast too (for a VA), it does not compare to an OLED nor a TN panel though.
– 1000R curve is really good, I thought it was going to be a problem, but no, I love it.
– The Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture feature is awesome! Being able connect both my work computer and personal laptop at the same time is great. Love it!

The Cons of this monitor:
– It came with a dead pixel, but hopefully yours will arrive without that issue.
– Sound quality of the monitor is below average, but most people have their own speaks or headsets for audio, so it will not be a problem for most.

Here is my recommended settings for the monitor, to make everything look bright, colorful and easy to see, specifically text:

Game => Refresh Rate => 240 Hz
Game => Adaptive-Sync => On
Game => Black Equalizer => 0
Picture => Picture Mode => Game Standard
Picture => Brightness => 50
Picture => Contrast => 40
Picture => Sharpness => 15
Picture => Color => 30
Picture => Tint => 0
Picture => Local Dimming => High
Picture => Contrast Enhancer => High
System => SeeColor Mode => Off
System => Save Energy => Off
System => DisplayPort Ver. => 1.4
System => Auto Switch Source+ => On

Also, make sure to turn on “G-Sync” or “FreeSync” on the software (nVidia or AMD) for your video card or GPU, so the Adaptive Sync can work properly.

In conclusion, I recommend this monitor for work and play, and at $900 is a great buy. Hopefully yours will have no dead pixels, but you can always return it and get another one. Good luck!

The same g9 scanline issues are here!

Don’t believe the hype around this 2024 refresh. I bought 2 of these monitors and the SAME scanline issue from the “previous” model is still present. Its literally the same screen just packaged in a new matt black finish. Terrible product. Absolutely DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Samsung is a nightmare to deal with as well.

Really bad glare if you have a bright background

If you are planning to use this in a bright room, just skip this. The glare from the monitor make doing work impossible. When I have my door opened behind me, the glare from the back window is like a flashlight staring at me the whole time. I couldn’t even open the curtains on my side window because the glare due to this monitor is curved monitor.

Absolute POS

Didn’t even use this POS for more than 90 days. It sat in its box for almost 30 days before I got my desk and finished my new setup. The monitor now has a complete left to right row of dead pixels in the middle of the screen. This is absolutely unacceptable!

The 49" Samsung Visual Monitor Monster

Upgrading to a 49″ monitor is one of the best things visually available. Got it for $799 and it’s worth every dollar. Now I can see all my work on one screen without constantly closing (and/or minimizing) other windows. There was a little curve to figuring out the logistics to using it with my M3 2023 MacBook Pro, but I figured out . . . WITHOUT the help of Samsung Support! Samsung Support had NO CLUE how to help me. No help from Apple Support Community either. And if you google for help, it is practically nonexistent. Luckily, I figured it out on my own and it only took a few minutes (after I realized no one was going to help me BUT ME) . . . now am in VISUAL HEAVEN.

Great monitor! Great for MacOS Software Dev productivity

I use this monitor for two computers. A Windows based PC I use for gaming, and a Macbook Pro I use for work and software development. When gaming in single screen mode, the games feel immersive, smooth, and beautiful. My gaming rig has a i7 9700k and an RTX 2080TI. When in work mode with my Macbook, I use PBP (Picture By Picture) mode to simulate two separate monitors. The curve makes working very comfortable.

The only screen I should have purchased

Mojo

The only screen I should have purchased, now having a few from gigabyte and a Samsung g8.
This screen does it all and looks great, colors are vibrant, darks are dark, it’s no oled but has far exceeded my expectations, the 240hz is excellent using paired with free sync pro, absolutely no screen tearing.

The only thing that is noticeable is the glare as others have mentioned, in a bright room it makes the screen somewhat hard to see.

the other thing I noticed from other reviewers was the mention of horizontal lines, I only notice them (slightly) on the color blue, it’s just enough to be noticeable if looking for them, I don’t see this when gaming only on the desktop.

One last thing it’s a huge monitor, make sure you have a sturdy desk.
