HORRIBLE Experience and the tv is still nonfunctional so Zero stars if possible

This has been a horrible experience, wish I could rate the product but after botched delivery attempts without messaging, not delivered when promised and when finally arrives I had to chase the FedEx guy for a block because even though I answered the vestibule-phone he left before I got down to the lobby of my apartment building. So instead of getting on 4/26 as originally promised, I finally got it on 4/30 and took the time to set it up but any app I choose gets “Smart Hub is being updated.” message. So have been on the phone, in text message and in online Samsung support chat for 3 hours this morning while they all have me go through the exact same troubleshooting steps repeatedly that do nothing to resolve it. I get a Samsung rep on the phone who remotes-in and does all the checking and troubleshooting steps himself on my screen, reboots, etc. but problem is still not resolved, I still can’t use any apps. So his solution is to have a service rep come out but the earliest is 5/6 which means I have no functional tv for the next 5 days after spending $2k+, waiting 4 days, spending hours setting up and several more hours on the phone with Samsung reps who could not get the apps to work. I actually do use my tv for cardio workouts which is necessary for my health but now have to wait 5 days just to use this brand new tv. this whole situation STINKS.

Beautiful Picture!

The Samsung 50″ QN90D 4k QLED TV provides a beautiful picture with good contrast and colors. It was a day and night difference between an older LED and this QLED TV. There was a lot of “pop” to the screen image, at times it was too “vibrant” out of the box. After adjusting the available picture modes, (dynamic, standard, eco, movie or filmmaker’s, these modes provided different preset levels of brightness /contrast/etc), it looked more natural and pleasing. Besides the preset modes, settings can be manually adjusted as well. The Samsung provided adequate brightness for daytime viewing even with natural lighting coming from a large picture window source. The picture from the older TV was a little washed out with the same lighting conditions. Preferred settings for watching Amazon Prime movies varied from standard to dynamic depending on the content, and whether it was during the day or evening viewing. The “blacks” were very black and not grey. Sometimes, the darker scenes were too dark which hid picture details, so it was necessary to revise the picture mode accordingly. Most of our TV watching is done with some lighting in the room, so the brightness provided by this TV is more than adequate. Used a 4k Blu-ray player to watch the movie “No Time to Die”, a reference quality disk (in my opinion), showed a detailed picture, vibrant colors, contrast and adequate black levels. The movie looked great! The built-in speakers were good for voices and some of the mid-range sounds, but explosions lacked impact as there was no or minimal bass extension from these speakers. The title song of the movie sung by Billie Eilish sounded very good with good depth and presence from the built-in speakers. The remote and menu system took a little getting used to, similar to operating an Amazon Firestick but different from a Sony. Found it difficult to navigate initially, but after a week or two of use, it was not a problem. Overall, other than a few minor learning difficulties of the remote and features of the unit, very satisfied with the picture and build quality of the Samsung. Rated 5-stars.

Awesome picture and sound. Does not come with wall mount

I had purchased the Samsung frame tv a year ago, so that’s what I’m comparing this 50” QN90D to mostly. Aside from The Frame’s screen being matte, the neo is super glassy. The neo is actually thinner than the frame. I was really surprised… like a lot thinner. I wish I could put a frame on it. It would look even better. The frames screen is always so hard to clean fingerprints and smears. This one is very easy to clean.

It came well protected and packaged. Comes with tv stand. I was really expecting it to come with the wall mount bracket (that goes on the back of the tv) for this price. I had a wall mount already but there was no way to mount it as the back did not have brackets to hang it.

The sound is the best I’ve heard for built in tv speakers. I would still recommend a soundbar though for the best experience.

The picture is very high quality and has vivid colors. Took me a while to find the perfect setting. Set up was easy but you do need a Samsung account if you don’t have one already.

I wish I could figure out how to get the art screensaver to automatically show when the tv is turned on. I find it annoying every time I turn the tv on it’s just at the home page or it will randomly play a channel.

They have some cool backgrounds/wall art options. This tv comes stocked with ones that move and have nature sounds. It’s called “ambiance” mode if I remember correctly. It’s easy to setup but every time I turn the tv on, I have to pick and click it again.

The remote is very quick at responding unlike my frame tv. The frame lags a lot. This tv doesn’t. The refresh rate is great.

In order to see the quality you have to find 4k shows or movies. I like the animal and nature ones. They show it best. It’s awesome. If I were to watch a standard Samsung channel show, this would appear like any other tv.

Again, minor things, but for the price, this should have came with wall mounting bracket.

9/10 stars

Best TV For Use With a PC

I had an LG OLED 4k 48″ as a monitor but after 4 years of use, there was some burn in. So I got the newest LG OLED because I liked the picture quality. In a nutshell, the LG software on this new TV for handling PC’s is the worst I have ever seen. I tried everything to make it work. Finally gave up and returned it and got this Samsung 50″ NEO TV because we love the 65inch version in our den and the picture quality is great. Right out of the box, the Samsung synced to the same setup the LG wouldn’t handle right and the Samsung has had NO problems with any resolution or refresh rate that I’ve thrown at it. Text looks great, colors are bright and HDR looks fantastic. Games look great on it! I’m done with LG. Samsung only from now on.

Wow - vivid colors, sharp picture

Whenever I have bought something expensive, whether it’s a car, refrigerator or a television, I always research, research and research. From the first time I bought my first flat screen television, I have always bought Samsung. This QLED 4K tv replaces a curved LED Samsung tv. When the box arrived, the UPS delivery man rang the doorbell because he wanted me to see the damaged box, the entire bottom was open, the packing tape was all ripped open. He wanted to tell me that it was loaded on his truck that day in that condition and he noted in his paperwork that it was possibly damaged. So I was a bit apprehensive at what I would find. When I unpacked the tv, I of course pulled it from the unopened bottom and was happy to find that it was so well packaged that everything was intact. I read the directions and scanned a QR code and found out that you should always open from the top. I apparently did everything wrong. In spite of that, the tv works perfectly. There are a couple of different QR codes to scan, one for unpacking and another for the assembly. I am not a tech person. The base of the tv is easy to assemble and attach. The first time I tried to set the tv up (which is pretty easy, just scan the QR code on the tv or do it with the remote), I figured I was replacing one Samsung with another so it should be simple. Hmm. I could get the tv to work, but I couldn’t figure out how to get my U-Verse working. So I unhooked the new tv and put the old one back up so I could watch tv that night. Lots of fun, lugging televisions around. That night I thought about it some more, okay, make sure HDMI 1 on the U-Verse box is hooked to HDMI 1 on the tv. I got up the next morning and I got it hooked up correctly and I’m stunned at how nice the picture is. The colors are so crisp, so vibrant and the picture is sharp. I still haven’t figured out how to hook up the soundbar. The tv is very thin and the sound isn’t too bad. I love my new tv!

Immersive is a good word to explain the picture.

Someone else mentioned the bottom of the box wasn’t sealed very well and we experienced the same. Samsung should invest in stronger shipping tape. Unboxed, the TV was fine though.
Setup was easy to physically install it. Take apart the base, attach to TV, put in a few screws and reattach the base cover. Stand up and plug in.
I own a Samsung phone so I already had an account. That made setting up the TV OS easier for me. I just scanned a QR code with my phone and followed a few steps. Now it’s on Wi-Fi and has access to all the steaming services. I plugged in our Tivo and that connected easily.
We played with the microphone built in to the TV and did not like it. Too many false positives where it thought we were talking to it. We had some trouble finding the physical switch to turn that off under the TV (to the right) but finally shut it off. On the other hand, using the voice prompts on the remote is new to us and very cool.
Sound quality is good but we had to turn it up to level 50 or so. I found the option in Sound Settings to “Amplify” and that is much better. It seems to bring the voices out instead of everything being loud.
Picture quality? Wow. It’s like you are standing in the studio with the actors! This is replacing a 5 year old 4K Sharp TV so I’m not sure if it’s newer technology, the QLED or what. It was a bit disorienting at first to be honest. I noticed that it even seems to work like this with older shows like Friends! Now we’re re-watching that series in a whole different world!
Steaming services connect easily. The remote is super small but does what it needs to.
Overall, I’m really, really happy with this! Great TV!

Just Wow!

The QN90D delivers stunning visuals with its QLED display. It produces 100% color volume for vivid, life-like colors and incorporates full array local dimming for deep blacks and contrast. Samsung’s Neo Quantum Processor optimizes content for incredible resolution and HDR performance. It upscales all inputs to 4K to make everything look sharp and clear.

Motion handling is excellent thanks to Motion Xcelerator which minimizes blur and judder. The TV also features Real Depth Enhancer Pro which adds a sense of depth to the picture. This makes movies and sports look three-dimensional.

In terms of sound quality, Object Tracking Sound Lite tracks voices and movement across the screen for an immersive audio experience. Dolby Atmos is also supported for multidimensional surround sound. The slim bezels and sleek design complement any modern home decor.

Smart TV capabilities are robust with Alexa built-in. Users can control their TV and other smart home devices using simple voice commands. The QN90D provides access to popular streaming services and apps. Gaming features include low input lag and support for Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode for a smooth experience.

Overall, the SAMSUNG QN90D offers incredible picture, sound, and smart functionality for an outstanding entertainment experience. While its price tag is higher, this TV is worth it for anyone looking for the latest and greatest in home theater technology and performance. Its stunning visuals and great audio make it a top choice for movies, sports, and gaming.

Expensive smart TV with impressive quality and rich in functions and features

I have been using a Samsung 46 inch 1080p LCD TV for 10+ years, so this 50 inch Samsung Neo QLED 4K 144 Hz UHD HDR+ (2024 model) TV is a real upgrade.  My first impression is that it is impressive (compared to the old one).  Here are some initial thoughts after using and testing it for a few days.

It took me less than an hour to set it up carefully.  Unboxing was the hardest part to make sure the screen was not damaged and scratched.  Once the panel was taken out, installing the stand and the rest were straight forward.  The TV was well wrapped and the entire screen was protected by a larger screen protector which I did not realize at the time of installation until I started watching the TV.

I have cut the cable and been using high speed internet and a firestick in the last few years, so no cable to connect.  For setting up new TVs these days, it is like setting up a smartphone or a laptop or a tablet, everything is done by following the screen instructions and making choices.  Once the TV’s wireless connection is connected to the home wireless router, the TV is ready.  Make sure there is a high speed internet connection for TV data streaming.  I first selected retail mode but later turned it off because it was quite annoying every time using it.

The back of the TV has a number of connectors, there are 2 USB, 4 HDMI’s, 1 ethernet, 1 ex-link, 1 optical link and even 1 coaxial cable connectors as shown in a picture. No wire connection is needed when the TV is connected through wireless internet connection.

First to my surprise, I do not need to use the firestick to watch the TV.  With the wireless internet connection and a signed up Samsung account, the TV has built-in system (like a firestick) to provide all kinds of program services such as Samsung TV+, Netflix, Disney, Sling, Prime Video, Alexa, YouTube, internet browsing plus many others.  The main TV screen with these channels is shown in one of the pictures.  So after an hour or so, I was able to watch  TV programs and try many new things.

Regular TV programs do not have 4K content, so I use YouTube 4K – 12K videos to test how different 4K videos look.  There are many specially made 4K+ videos on YouTube on scenery, animals, fishes, flowers, etc.  Some 4K+ YouTube video screenshots are shown in the pictures.  The TV shows impressive high quality 4K videos as shown in some of the pictures.

Showing regular TV programs via streaming is straightforward, and I do not see significantly better video quality due to most of the regular TV content except the sound is much better.

I then tested connecting various tablets and PCs to the TV.  I tried connecting via a HDMI to USB-C cable to a Samsung tablet S8 plus.  The TV automatically detected there was a connected device and just by following the screen direction, the connection was done and a screen shot of the tablet is shown in one of the pictures.  Windows PCs can be connected similarly via a HDMI to USB-C connection.  There are other ways to connect a smart phone or a tablet via wireless mirroring, sharing or the dex mode for Samsung S-series tablets.

I was surprised that Alexa is integrated into the TV.  I was able to use voice-activated Alexa as a standalone without other TV programs being on.  A screenshot of Alexa is shown in one of the pictures.

The TV is directly connected to the interest and there is an internet browser built-in as shown in a picture.  I tried using the browser to go through many regular websites, including video sites, using the remote control as a mouse to point and click and the screen keyboard.  The response and smoothness are acceptable.

I have not played with the many settings since I wanted to use the default settings for sometimes first.  I have not paid attention to and see the difference the high 144 Hz refresh rate makes in videos with high speed motions such as car racing and sports.  I assume it would be good.

So overall, I am happy with this TV, it is full of the latest functions and features, more than just a traditional TV.  Besides the impressive video, it delivers high quality audio and also has a quick power on time.  For the price though, it is expensive, there are bigger (85 inch) TVs than this one and they cost almost half the price.

The SAMSUNG 50-Inch Class QLED 4K QN90D Series Neo Quantum HDR Smart TV w/Dolby Atmos is a great TV!

Every single detail about this TV is phenomenal. The screen is 50”. The picture quality is the best I’ve seen. The screen itself is thin and it comes with a table top mount. it has built-in speakers, and the sound quality is also very good. It’s actually better than very good, it’s absolutely awesome!

The TV comes with a Samsung remote. While you’re installing the TV – it explains and guides you on everything the TV can do. It’s almost intuitive! It will switch from different modes – if you want to listen to music, watch TV, game, etc. This TV is designed to work seamlessly with whatever you want to do with it.

The TV has Alexa built-in. It works seamlessly with my Firestick and I don’t need separate remotes. All of the apps work through the Samsung remote the TV comes with. so let me just try to summarize this: If I’m in the same room as the TV, I can simply say Alexa add bananas to my shopping list and it’s done. Next time I open my Amazon app, it will remind me bananas are in my shopping list.

The TV is incredible and definitely a very high-end television. The smart features make this TV convenient, easy to use and simplified in the way it acts as a hub for all your other apps. I love it! My whole family loves it! We hope it works out just as well for you 🙂

Beautiful picture and sound!

This tv is gorgeous, and the colors almost had me feeling like I had an OLED as the blacks are just that good. I got the QN90D to replace an 8 year-old 4k TV that I had in my bedroom. There is no comparison, the Samsung has superior Color, Refresh rate, and audio. The screen does ok with glare (In the pictures I posted you will see glare, and that is because I still had the protective film on the screen as I was still installing and setting it up). However, the screen itself is quite glossy and you definitely catch reflections and glare when you view it off angle.

The cons are not really cons, but more of an adjustment, especially if you are new to Samsung, and personal preferences. First, the UI on this TV takes some getting used to and is not quite as intuitive as I had expected (for example the channel and volume switches need to be pressed down in order to see the guide or mute the TV. Second, I am not a fan of having to get the Samsung account to add apps, and as of yet I have not figured out how or if it is possible to delete some of the apps that came preloaded on the TV. Finally, I don’t like that it has games suggested on the home screen, as it just makes it feel like the TV itself is now advertising things for purchase.
At the end of the day, it is a beautiful TV from a brand that you can trust. If you are looking for vivid colors and deep blacks, without the price tag of an OLED, than the QN90D is a fantastic option. If you are looking for a TV that is just a TV, then it can do that too, however it has a lot of features that would simply be going to waste.
