Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional Picture Quality: Users consistently praise the sharp 4K resolution, vibrant yet natural colors, and the ability of the X1 processor to upscale older, lower-resolution content with impressive clarity.
  • Strong Value for Money: Many reviewers highlight that this model provides the premium build quality and performance expected from the brand at a much more affordable price than high-end OLED models.
  • Intuitive Google TV Interface: The smart TV platform is frequently described as snappy and easy to navigate, offering seamless integration with popular streaming apps and effective voice control via Google Assistant.

Cons

  • Frequent Software Freezing: A recurring issue among users is the TV's tendency to freeze or become unresponsive, often requiring the unit to be physically unplugged and restarted to restore functionality.
  • Poor Remote Control Design: The included remote is widely criticized for being too small, lacking a numeric keypad for direct channel entry, and having no backlighting for visibility in dark rooms.
  • Unreliable Wi-Fi Connectivity: Multiple customers reported that the TV frequently drops its wireless connection or fails to find networks entirely, necessitating frequent network resets or hard reboots.

Customer Fit

  • Primary audience: People using this model as the main living room TV praise the large screen sizes (65–85"), theater-like feel, strong color, and clear dialogue for sports, movies, and everyday shows from across the room.
  • Secondary audience: Many buyers explicitly installed the 50–65" sizes in bedrooms and liked that it’s easy to mount, sounds good without a soundbar, and is quick to get streaming.
  • Ideal scenarios: Reviewers say PS5 gameplay “looks great” and input lag feels low for casual gaming, but competitive players wanting 120Hz/VRR or simultaneous 4K+HDR may be disappointed.

Well, my 18 year old, 65 pound Sharp Aquos with 29 (I counted) jacks on the back finally passed away. It had a good picture, great onboard sound and it didn’t owe me anything. It was a good soldier. Being a bit of a tightwad, my first stop was to my members club where I grabbed a 55 inch Vizio Quantum QLED. For $350 it sounds great right? It wasn’t. Picture and color were substandard and hours of adjustments couldn’t make it acceptable. The onboard sound? Think giant walkie-talkie. Back it went. Then I grabbed a Samsung at the same price point and it wasn’t much different. Back it went. My point here is that at this price point for about $200 bucks more you can have a huge upgrade in quality with this unit. Right out of the box the color and picture quality were night and day. A two minute tweak to the brightness and saturation and it was perfect. I think it’s established that in the age of super thin flat panels onboard sound is never really great, unless maybe if you’re spending thousands on a TV. I’ll never know. I will say there was a very noticeable improvement in depth with the Sony over the Vizio and Samsung. Again, the picture is excellent. Setup was a breeze. The operating system is smooth, sensible, & streamlined. It probably took me about 15 minutes to run through all the menus and have a firm grasp on how to navigate everything the TV does. The Bluetooth works great with my old Polk soundbar. There are some complaints in the reviews about connectivity and lag. I have seen none of that. You have to think a large percentage of these people simply have crappy wi-fi. So if you are like me and are shopping in the lower-ish price point, take my advice and spend few bucks more and go with the Sony Bravia 3. you’ll probably save yourself a lot of headache and
disappointment. (Full disclosure …. I’ve had it less than a week, but will update with any problems … but I’m not expecting that.)

  2. BLOATWARE

These tvs would be great if they weren’t pre-loaded with so much bloatware. They don’t need to come from Sony with netflix, disney, appletv, prime video, et al. You can add your subscription services easily on your own. Since you can’t delete them, I have to go through the apps on a weekly basis, un-installing the updates to free up available storage so my preferred apps will work correctly.

  6. Terribly Glitchy TV

This is a really sub par TV, often it won’t turn on at all. It needs to be unplugged to get it to respond at all after plugging it back in.
There is a constant lag of the response to pushing the buttons, often it goes “crazy” and you have to start from the beginning. It’s a terribly glitchy TV. I am really dissatisfied and disappointed with this Sony TV.

Paid $768 in August 2024 for a “quality” Sony TV. Had it less than 7 months and it will not connect to the internet.
Spent 2 weeks trying to solve the problem myself and then called Sony Support yesterday.
Waste over an hour for no solution to problem.
Looks like only solution is to purchase another 65-inch TV from a different manufacturer.
