Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional Picture Quality: Users consistently praise the sharp 4K resolution, vibrant yet natural colors, and the ability of the X1 processor to upscale older, lower-resolution content with impressive clarity.
  • Strong Value for Money: Many reviewers highlight that this model provides the premium build quality and performance expected from the brand at a much more affordable price than high-end OLED models.
  • Intuitive Google TV Interface: The smart TV platform is frequently described as snappy and easy to navigate, offering seamless integration with popular streaming apps and effective voice control via Google Assistant.

Cons

  • Frequent Software Freezing: A recurring issue among users is the TV's tendency to freeze or become unresponsive, often requiring the unit to be physically unplugged and restarted to restore functionality.
  • Poor Remote Control Design: The included remote is widely criticized for being too small, lacking a numeric keypad for direct channel entry, and having no backlighting for visibility in dark rooms.
  • Unreliable Wi-Fi Connectivity: Multiple customers reported that the TV frequently drops its wireless connection or fails to find networks entirely, necessitating frequent network resets or hard reboots.

Customer Fit

  • Primary audience: People using this model as the main living room TV praise the large screen sizes (65–85"), theater-like feel, strong color, and clear dialogue for sports, movies, and everyday shows from across the room.
  • Secondary audience: Many buyers explicitly installed the 50–65" sizes in bedrooms and liked that it’s easy to mount, sounds good without a soundbar, and is quick to get streaming.
  • Ideal scenarios: Reviewers say PS5 gameplay “looks great” and input lag feels low for casual gaming, but competitive players wanting 120Hz/VRR or simultaneous 4K+HDR may be disappointed.

I’ve had it for 3 months and it works great. Picture resolution was great, very thin and elegant display in the living room. After all, it’s a SONY, can not be disappointed.

Wow, Sony never disappoints. I replaced my 10+ yo Plasma TV as the picture was fading in my very sunlit living room. The picture and sound are incredible. I bought the 50″, it fits the room I have a condo. I used to have to close my blinds to watch the plasma tv but not with this one. It is bright and the quality is fantastic. The setup can be a little tricky if you’re easily frustrated by that, just have Best Buy do the setup if you’re not computer savvy, it will be worth it. I’m over 60 so once I realized the remote didn’t have batteries installed it wasn’t too bad but I like these kinds of challenges.

Set-up via g-mail was very complicated – we never could facilitate successful log-in with g-mail account (to enable connection / Google streaming, etc so we were dead in water. We realized later that “somehow” an old (defunct) email address that appeared (from old Amazon email account?) – BUT we could not override it with the new dedicated Gmail address…after many attempts. OY! Sony tech support NOT helpful – he sounded like he was also helping someone else simultaneously so he merely walked us thru the steps we’d already tried to no avail. This happened twice – no help whatsoever from Sony. And as usual these days, both tech support people were hard to understand, so it was a no-go. We tried several times…and because we did not have a smart phone (we were linking to new gmail acct thru our iMac close by) but that didn’t work. : (: (So maybe – it’s best not to buy a “smart” WiFi TV if you don’t have smart phone or tablet?
On upside – image gorgeous (as is our current smaller Sony Bravia). Good Luck “Y’all” from Memphis.
