Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional Picture Quality: Users consistently praise the sharp 4K resolution, vibrant yet natural colors, and the ability of the X1 processor to upscale older, lower-resolution content with impressive clarity.
  • Strong Value for Money: Many reviewers highlight that this model provides the premium build quality and performance expected from the brand at a much more affordable price than high-end OLED models.
  • Intuitive Google TV Interface: The smart TV platform is frequently described as snappy and easy to navigate, offering seamless integration with popular streaming apps and effective voice control via Google Assistant.

Cons

  • Frequent Software Freezing: A recurring issue among users is the TV's tendency to freeze or become unresponsive, often requiring the unit to be physically unplugged and restarted to restore functionality.
  • Poor Remote Control Design: The included remote is widely criticized for being too small, lacking a numeric keypad for direct channel entry, and having no backlighting for visibility in dark rooms.
  • Unreliable Wi-Fi Connectivity: Multiple customers reported that the TV frequently drops its wireless connection or fails to find networks entirely, necessitating frequent network resets or hard reboots.

Customer Fit

  • Primary audience: People using this model as the main living room TV praise the large screen sizes (65–85"), theater-like feel, strong color, and clear dialogue for sports, movies, and everyday shows from across the room.
  • Secondary audience: Many buyers explicitly installed the 50–65" sizes in bedrooms and liked that it’s easy to mount, sounds good without a soundbar, and is quick to get streaming.
  • Ideal scenarios: Reviewers say PS5 gameplay “looks great” and input lag feels low for casual gaming, but competitive players wanting 120Hz/VRR or simultaneous 4K+HDR may be disappointed.

I’m a Samsung customer for many years. This time I tried Sony. The Image at the store looks good. Later I connected everything in home. Seems okay. Then sadly next day when I turned on the brightness it was extremely high. I reset it thinking will fix the issue. It did. Until next day turned again and it was the same issue. I decided to return it. And got a Samsung again. Also I don’t like the google in the tv. Sorry Sony.

This brav 3 can’t set up favorites folders 1, 2, 3, 4, like the other Sony models. You also can’t HEY GOOGLE without the remote control mic. Every thing else is ok. Cst serv lost connection with me 5 times in a row. I would not recommend this 50 inche tv .

  5. Great value TV

This tv was on par with our older TCL in terms of price when we bought it new, so that is mostly what I will be comparing it to.

Despite being the same size, this tv feels smaller because it is both thinner, and has slimmer bezels. Unboxing and setting the tv up is easy and straightforward. The included feet for the tv just snap into place without the need for any tools. Once powered up it will ask you to connect it to your wifi and run through some system updates which is pretty standard for any smart tv nowadays. It will also ask you to connect a google account, which is optional. It will go ahead and start to add it to your google home and you can go through that process if you do add an account.

Sony will ask you which applications you would like to download so you can stream shows. This is pretty standard now as well, but I appreciate being given this option rather than a bunch of random streaming apps just automatically being installed that I may not use. Sony will also prompt you to make an account for their personal streaming service. They give you some free credits for movies when you sign up which is nice, but you can just ignore this if you don’t want to make another account or just don’t care.

Out of the box, I found the picture quality to be really good. I didn’t measure it, so I can’t give exact numbers, but no one in the house complained or commented on the color, saturation, sharpness, or anything else. We were able to jump right into movies and tv shows without needing to adjust anything. Of course, though, picture and color control are there if you want to adjust them.

The sound was one of the biggest differences I noticed. Despite them being built-in tv speakers, they were both louder and clearer than our previous LG. They still aren’t movie theatre quality or going to sound as good as a soundbar or dedicated speakers, but they are far better than our previous tv’s.

The last and biggest difference for us has been the smart tv part. This tv runs on Google TV. We have traditionally been a Roku house, but all of our Roku devices (including our TCL with Roku built in) have started to become glitchy and slow. We’ve only had this Sony a month now so time will tell, but so far it has been so much snappier and responsive when browsing apps and menus. We no longer randomly get sent back to the tv’s home screen because whatever streaming app decided to crash. Additionally, and this is just personal preference, Google TV’s layout and appearance just look so much better.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with this tv. Sony has always made premium televisions and even though this is a budget option, it still has that premium Sony feel to it.

I will keep this as concise as I can, but I am puzzled by all the positive reviews.

I REALLY wanted to like this TV. Yes it has a great picture. But for me the positives stop there. And the main reason is that it will not stay connected to my wifi. It will stay connected for a while but once it’s been on for a few hours or turned off then turned back on a while later it will always disconnect and I have to go into settings and manually connect again. Very annoying. Yes I have plenty of wifi capacity and yes I have done the several troubleshooting steps like power cycle my modem and tv, factory reset, added the static IP but none worked and frankly the most expensive tech item I own should work flawlessly from the start. I have more than enough wifi to go around and no other device has any issues, including the 5 year old Roku tv in the basement. Also it doesn’t connect via Bluetooth to my iPhone 14. There are other annoying nuances but won’t do a full beat down here. The lag another reviewer pointed out is a real issue and it’s with everything this tv does (or tries to do): Connecting to wifi, Bluetooth, external sound bar, etc. Oh and the remote is oddly speckled so it looks like there is dust on it constantly lol.

This is my first Sony TV and perhaps my last. But since there are few reviews out there maybe this is just a new TV model that needs a few iterations to work out the kinks? I will definitely be returning this but also giving the benefit of the doubt and not leaving one star. Oh and as I am finishing up this review it just disconnected from wifi lol. Classic.

I currently have an older Bravia that’s still working, I was in need of an upgrade. While I wanted a larger screen, I’m limited in space. I had been looking at older Sony tv’s with more features, this happened to peak my interest. So far I’m pleased with my purchase.
