Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional Picture Quality: Users consistently praise the sharp 4K resolution, vibrant yet natural colors, and the ability of the X1 processor to upscale older, lower-resolution content with impressive clarity.
  • Strong Value for Money: Many reviewers highlight that this model provides the premium build quality and performance expected from the brand at a much more affordable price than high-end OLED models.
  • Intuitive Google TV Interface: The smart TV platform is frequently described as snappy and easy to navigate, offering seamless integration with popular streaming apps and effective voice control via Google Assistant.

Cons

  • Frequent Software Freezing: A recurring issue among users is the TV's tendency to freeze or become unresponsive, often requiring the unit to be physically unplugged and restarted to restore functionality.
  • Poor Remote Control Design: The included remote is widely criticized for being too small, lacking a numeric keypad for direct channel entry, and having no backlighting for visibility in dark rooms.
  • Unreliable Wi-Fi Connectivity: Multiple customers reported that the TV frequently drops its wireless connection or fails to find networks entirely, necessitating frequent network resets or hard reboots.

Customer Fit

  • Primary audience: People using this model as the main living room TV praise the large screen sizes (65–85"), theater-like feel, strong color, and clear dialogue for sports, movies, and everyday shows from across the room.
  • Secondary audience: Many buyers explicitly installed the 50–65" sizes in bedrooms and liked that it’s easy to mount, sounds good without a soundbar, and is quick to get streaming.
  • Ideal scenarios: Reviewers say PS5 gameplay “looks great” and input lag feels low for casual gaming, but competitive players wanting 120Hz/VRR or simultaneous 4K+HDR may be disappointed.

For the amount of money spent you’d think you’d get a great quality picture. It’s actually average.

I originally bought a Samsung Q8F TV, but ended up returning that model because it had a defective processor. I decided to get this Sony TV instead. So far, I have had good luck with this set. The Picture quality is very good and it has very accurate colors and is very bright, so this set is suitable for a living space that receives a lot of natural daylight. The Sound quality is also pretty good. While the sound won’t beat the performance from a good sound bar or home theatre system, it is fine for casual everyday use. The Google TV interface works good, but can be a bit more confusing to use than the smart interface on a Samsung set. one good thing about Google TV is that it doesn’t seem quite as locked down as other smart TV OS and gives you more flexibility in customizing, etc. I like that this set has a good amount of connections. including 4 HDMI, optical out, and an LAN port. There is also Wi F and it is compatible with 2.4/5 and 6 ghz bands. I use the optical out to connect to an LG soundbar. One thing to note is that the TV can only output Dolby Audio and not DTS audio. I have the TV directly connected to my internet gateway using LAN.

This set has many different features. One thing to mention is a quick menu that allows you to directly set backlight brightness, audio output, Bluetooth, eco settings, and an option to switch the screen off and play audio only. This is useful if you want to stream music and save energy by not having the screen turned on.

This set has many other features, but it will take to much time here to list everything. One other thing to note is when the TV is used in a brightly lit room, it has excellent picture quality with great color and brightness however, because this is not OLED, It will not be able to produce true deep blacks, such as with content that has black bands at the top and bottom of the screen. While an OLED set would produce ink blacks in the letterboxed area of the screen, This set won’t do it as good since it doesn’t have local dimming features. Adjusting the picture settings, especially black level and relating settings could help.

I bought this set on sale for $449.99 + tax. I have it connected to a Sony UBP-X800M2 4k disc player and the pair work great together. I wish that Sony had a larger selection of tvs available to compete with Samsung and LG.

Overall, this is a great TV with a build quality that Sony is known for and loads of different features. I’m very happy with it! I would recommend this set to anyone who wants very good build quality, great features, very good to excellent picture quality, and affordability, don’t miss this one!

  6. If only it functioned properly.

Everyday when I come home. Something goes wrong with the tv. I have to reset it almost daily for it to be functional for the amount of time I use it. Unlike the other models I’ve had, the tv has to be connected through Ethernet just to have a stable connection otherwise it’s disconnecting and reconnecting again every 30 minutes. The only thing that it has going for it is possibly gaming if you can look past your tv seizing occasionally when you turn on your console and have to wait for it to reboot. Overall this tv has flaws and I would not recommend.

It is advertised as having special features for PS5. This does not exist. It’s not even capable of being 4K and HDR simultaneously. You have to choose between 4K without HDR or 1080p with HDR. The PS5 does not like this, which makes this the worst choice for your PS5…

Great TV. We have the 65” and 85” as well, same model just bigger, and they’ve been great throughout the years. We keep this one in our gym room, and it has good volume (tv speakers) and easy to watch

I purchased this 55 inch Sony to replace my old 55 inch Sony which finally decided to stop working. Picture is comparable to my old one, I’d have to do a side by side comparison to really tell, but it’s not working. The reception isn’t as good as my old TV, I suppose it’s because most people have cable or satellite now days and Sony cheapened up in that area. I’m not happy that you have to buy another remote control if you want one with numbers on it.
