Coming from an OLED, I don’t miss the OLED. There is one small downside to this mini-LED though. With full screen, bright color images, there is vignetting on the sides and top corners of the image. It’s not too distracting, but it’s there. I guess it’s the price you pay to not worry about burn-in. The brightness, colors, and clarity of the image are unmatched. Off-axis viewing is as good as my old Sony OLED too.

The sound quality is great for TV speakers, but I’m still using a soundbar.

I upgraded from Bravia 7!

Originally bought the B7, quality was great but nothing compared to OLED. Upgraded to this Bravia 9 and couldn’t be happier! The B9 is extremely close to OLED level blacks but the brightness of the B9 is much greater then OLED. Could not be happier with my purchase and highly recommend!

Excellent 4K Television

This is my first 4K television and it looks great. With all the latest technology connections I am now going to need to update my AV receiver to take full advantage of its capabilities. The TV speakers are the best I have listened to but a surround sound system sounds much better.

I haven’t done any gaming on this as I mostly stream movies and shows.

This is outstanding tv

Great display - bright, factory well calibrated

It’s well calibrated from the factory – which is great.
Very bright and great blacks. This defiantly gives OLED a run for its money without any risk of OLED burn in.
There is a very small amount of vignetting along the edges of the panel , given the super thin frames but needing LED backlighting. . It’s a mater of taste if that bothers you (see image ), but compared the the huge frames from 10 years ago this is a compromise I’ll gladly take.

It mounted easily to my same wall mount that my old XBR8 was mounted to.

The only annoyance is what is now the norm – there is no composite nor component input. So for those older sources you have to either add HDMI to them or get converted /digitizer modules (which can vary in quality). At least one factory component input would have been nice, given that Sony’s AV receivers still have composite support.

Second to none.

As filmmakers work with increasingly higher dynamic range, displaying such content accurately has grown problematic. OLED produces incredible blacks on the low end but struggles to reproduce & sustain correct brightness – especially across large surface areas. LED panels can sustain high brightness, but historically struggled in the blacks.

Taking this challenge head on, Sony developed an entirely new type of Mini LED backlighting tech which incorporates thousands of discrete 22-bit drivers to not only control each dimming zone, but also to individually turn each LED on & off & adjust for luminance. The result is not only wider dynamic range with deeper blacks & brighter brights, but also greater detail in the shadows & highlights — all displayed with rich color which is second to none.

The first implementation of this tech was on Sony’s BVM-HX3110 TRIMASTER HX 4K Professional Master Monitor – a $25K display used by Hollywood studios for color grading & mastering films. With Bravia 9, Sony attempted to match their master monitor as closely as possible, so viewers can see it exactly as the director did.

Living with Bravia 9 for a week, I’d say they succeeded.

Out of the box, a quick switch of the Picture Profile to “Professional” shifted the color close to perfect. A quick demo watching Dune Part 2 really allowed Bravia 9 to show its prowess. On even the very best OLED panels (including Sony’s own previous flagship), the panels fail to correctly render the bright, almost white desert skies on Arakis leaving them greyish by comparison to the more faithful rendering on the Bravia 9.

Something to point out is people talk a lot about brightness, but more brightness is useless if not properly controlled, and Sony’s proprietary back light tech helps Bravia 9 control with finesse allowing for correct brightness both across the entire frame & in specular highlights with virtually no blooming. Black levels are equally rich & impressive.

Because of such wide contrast, Brava 9 looks as good watching with the blinds open on a sunny afternoon as it does for late night viewing with the lights down.

Although I’m pairing Bravia 9 with a discrete 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos surround setup, the TV audio itself is quite good (even boasts a bit of mid bass) & would make a formidable center channel for Sony’s own Bravia Theater Quad wireless surround system.

I highly recommend Bravia 9 to discerning movie fans & videophiles, but equally to sports fans.

Bravia 9 is a TV that can do it all & raises the bar for all others.

Best TV I've ever seen!

Sony has outdone themselves on this one. The dynamic range, brightness, contrast, even gaming abilities are all top notch. This EASILY beats the pants off any OLED TV I’ve ever bought. That’s high praise considering that this is an LCD TV. Really fantastic TV!

Honestly did not think the brilliant X95L from 2023 could be “noticeably improved upon” but Sony reached into it’s magic 🪄 ✨ bag of tricks and found a way! Saw it recently at ABT Electronics and Appliances near Chicago and and the A95L was adjacent to it…The Bravio 9 had blacks that equalled the OLED BUT the 9 showed better shadow detail in the dark shadowy scenes AND had brighter, more vibrant HDR highlights… Honestly thought the 85″er would come in @ release around mid 6’s to 7…A great deal!

I looked at different TVs in the stores and ultimately decided on Sony’s BRAVIA 9. The brightness and picture quality is incredible. It’s summer time, this TV looks amazing in the home and will be great for day time viewing and night time with the family.

Glorious brightness

Replaced my OLED C1 for this Tv. The brightness is definitely a highlight. Picture quality is top notch, and black lvls are very good for an LCD tv, while it will never match OLED pixel level control, it still impressed me. I mainly watch movies, and play games and everything I throw at it looks great. One negative thing about it was setting up PS5, was not very plug and play, had to turn things on in setting to get it set up right, like 4kHDR 120, and VRR. By default it was set to 1080P 120 (weird)

NO COMPETITION!

A stunning TV that may suffer from screen uniformity issues

This is my first impression of the 85-inch Sony BRAVIA 9. It is a stunning TV with high brightness and contrast, crisp clarity, and saturated and vibrant colors. The sound is also extraordinary. However, the quality of the display panel is disappointing. The top and side edges are less bright in comparison with the rest of the display. It reminded me of LCD panels in laptops I owned two to three decades ago. The diminished brightness is particularly noticeable on the top left corner. This kind of imperfection, known as vignetting, is unacceptable in a TV of this caliber and price. Needless to say, I am going to pursue a return/exchange as soon as it is feasible. If it was not for the screen uniformity issue, I would have awarded the 85-inch Sony BRAVIA 9 five stars. Time will tell if the issue is widespread or rare on the BRAVIA 9 series. Be on the lookout.

Returned OLED for this one. Glad I did!

So far, stellar TV living up to the hype. Replacing a XBR-65X900E which I still have just move to another room. At first, made the switch to LG G3 and was excited to go OLED but anything dolby vision and some HDR was just disappointedly too dark and crushing black scenes, and yes TV was calibrated. Was just about to swap it out for the Sony A95L but so glad I waiting the short wait for the Bravia 9! Muuuuch better shadow detail, overall picture brightness and yes, almost no blooming. Matter of fact you almost have to purposely look for it. Out of the box settings are pretty solid and looking forward to the calibrated settings to be release soon. Trust your gut like I did. You wont be disappointed. BTW 4000 Nits capable! Thats double any OLED with clarity remaining intact.
