Pros & Cons
Pros
- Exceptional Blending Performance: The powerful motor easily pulverizes tough ingredients like kale, frozen fruit, and nuts, producing a homogenous, silky consistency that users claim surpasses cheaper brands and coffee shop quality.
- Convenient Self-Cleaning Function: The dedicated cleaning cycle allows users to clean the jar quickly using just warm water and a drop of soap, which many reviewers find saves time and encourages more frequent daily use.
- Durable Build and Long Warranty: The machine is described as a sturdy, professional-grade 'beast' built to last for decades, supported by an industry-leading 10-year warranty that justifies the initial investment.
Cons
- High Noise Levels: Multiple reviews highlight that the blender is extremely loud during operation, with one user measuring it at 101 decibels, which can be startling for pets and annoying for household members.
- Premium Price Point: Many customers find the blender to be a significant financial investment, noting it is much more expensive than basic or mid-market alternatives, which may not suit casual users.
- Reliability and Sensing Issues: Some users experienced technical failures, including motors breaking within months, units overheating during thick blends, or the base failing to detect the jar on the unit.

Smoothest smoothies ever
Hulabunny September 16, 2024Review source: AmazonI got the Vitamix Ascent X2 Blender to replace the Explorian model that I got from Costco a few years ago. I really want to replace my blender and food processor with a single appliance, and the Explorian is not compatible with the food processor attachment. I also wanted something more compact, and the 48-ounce container of the Ascent X2 is the perfect size for my needs. The carafe is perfectly sized for 2 large or 3 small smoothies.
So far, I am loving everything about the X2 model. From its more compact footprint to its sleek design, it is a good-looking addition to my appliance garage. The X2 has all the power and convenience you expect from a Vitamix: powerful motor, super sharp blades, dishwasher safe. It also comes with a self-clean mode, which is basically a timer for swirling soapy water around in the blender carafe, which you can do on your own.
One new feature is that it has a master power switch in addition to the “on/off” and “pulse” toggles. With the old model, sometimes the unit would get turned on when I took it out of the drawer, and the motor would run as soon as I plugged it in. The master power switch addresses that. The controls are pretty intuitive, and the presets are convenient.
The X2 is quieter than the Explorian, but I wouldn’t call either of the models quiet, but the noise doesn’t really bother me. I am saving up for the food processor attachment and look forward to giving the X2 base a try with it.

A most worthy evolution for the Vitamix
Cheryl G. September 15, 2024Review source: AmazonFor context – I’ve owned a reconditioned Vitamix 5200 for 15+ years and I can’t imagine living without it.
The 5200 is a very basic model, yet I would never hesitate to recommend a reconditioned Vitamix 5200 to any true friend or family member – it’s never failed me – (one issue I detail below was caused by my own operator error and was easily repaired by an inexpensive part sold by Vitamix.)If you are wondering why people are willing to shell out more for a reconditioned Vitamix than the cost other brands of blenders charge for something brand new – I’m happy to provide a bit of background…
Read any respected kitchen blog or product reviewer (NY Times ‘Wirecutter’ included, for example) and you’ll find quite thorough reviews by kitchen pros that support a widely held opinion that Vitamix is the one to beat. If you need any more incentive – Vitamix is a 100+ year old American-based company and there are many professional journalists and chefs who sing the brand’s praises.
For me it all started by realizing that I could not make a decent kale smoothie at home (suspended shreds of kale throughout – bleh!) – and I had developed a daily kale smoothie habit after being told by a specialist I needed to seriously up my consumption of greens. Do the math – a kale smoothie a day… and a Vitamix became a worthy investment.
Having owned one for many years I’ve discovered many uses for a Vitamix beyond the simple smoothie: a food processor is gathering dust after seeing how the Vitamix makes super smooth hummus, I’m thrilled to have found that banana-based ‘nice cream’ is easy; carrot and fibrous ginger dressing is a breeze, and soups made with even tough and stringy squashes can be finished hot literally right from the Vitamix.
So – when your basic product is so amazing, why upgrade it…?
That question is one of the reasons I ordered the new Vitamix Ascent X2.
Here is my opinion on the new features:
• The motor is even stronger (2.2 HP, versus the 2 HP of the 5200) – I didn’t think this would matter, but I had a super smooth and silky smoothie made with my usual kale, vanilla soymilk, frozen banana and frozen pineapple in about 1/3 less processing time than usual with my 5200 and I do think the result was a bit silkier! (Photo attached for Vitamix’s recommended loading order – liquid, greens, frozen fruits).
• Sleeker design – but same counter space footprint with the 48 ounce pitcher that it ships with (see my photo of my 5200 with my 48 ounce pitcher and the new Ascent X2 with the included 48 ounce pitcher side by side).
There is a tamper attachment – however it strikes me as kind of silly. I store my tamper right in the top of my pitcher so it’s at the ready and store my lid top in my counter drawer because I find I don’t need it often. Trust me – once you use a tamper you are not going to want to put it full of goop on one end back in a holder sitting on your countertop. However – if you find you don’t need the tamper often, maybe the attachment will suit you…? If Vitamix wants to add a more useful attachment – I’d suggest something to keep your earplugs or earmuffs handy! It’s no secret these blenders are loud – there are commercial versions with housings to avoid scaring customers at the counter away. I can’t see how such a housing would work in a home – so, I suggest keep some decent earplugs handy – I stash mine in the drawer below the countertop.
The Ascent 2 has physical buttons which I like because that’s what I’m used to, but there are pricier models that have touch buttons and tamper indicators, etc. if you prefer more automation.
• The Ascent is advertised as having an “intuitive” interface – this gave me some pause because the 5200 has no digital interface and I was wondering why Vitamix would mess with its success…
However, I tried the smoothie setting on the new Ascent 2 first, and I was truly impressed that I didn’t have to start with the lower power manually then switch to the higher power – the Ascent did all that. However (see video) after the program ended, I then needed to use the tamper and pulse for about 10 more seconds to get things totally smooth. Still, overall processing time was quicker than with my old 5200.
• Attachment self-detect feature – The unit will shut off automatically if the pitcher or another attachment (there is a food processor available as well as a food composter) is not seated correctly.
This is a nice improvement – because it is indeed possible to not have the pitcher joined firmly to the base – it’s happened to me enough times that I’ve been grateful that Vitamix sells parts. You can actually hear the issue when it happens and know to reseat the pitcher but it can cause some wear if you have this repeated operator error (I make most of my smoothies early in the morning – that’s my excuse!)
It wasn’t costly to replace the one part that secures the join – however, if I had been aware of the problem or had a self-detect feature on the 5200 I likely would not have needed to replace anything to keep it running 15+ years.
The downside to the self-detect feature – I’ll admit I’ve ordered non-Vitamix pitchers. If you grow to love your Vitamix as I do, you’ll want more than one pitcher to be able to prep multiple dishes at once. However – although I can place an older Vitamix pitcher and a non-Vitamix pitcher on the based of the Ascent – the digital display will show an error code and the blender will refuse to operate. I would be aware of this if you have a collection of existing pitchers and are reluctant to need to replace them. For me it’s not a deal-breaker, because as mentioned, I do appreciate that the self-detect feature will preserve the integrity of the pitcher/base operation.
In fact, now that I have an Ascent, I will be hoping to add the food processor attachment eventually!
I haven’t had a chance to try it, but the features look great. And – who doesn’t want less counter clutter…?
I know just the place to store a food processor attachment and should I wish to slice/dice or add to the repertoire of Vitamix capabilities I can leave the Ascent where it is and not have to drag any other appliance out – win-win!• Dishwasher safe. Woo-hoo! The Vitamix pitchers are not all dishwasher safe – the one that ships with the Ascent 2 is! There is a quick preset for cleaning right on the machine – a few drops of dishwashing liquid and some water and you should be good to go using this preset – but when needed, it’s nice to know the pitcher is actually dishwasher safe.
• Ten year warranty!
Knowing how my reconditioned Vitamix has lasted and lasted, I doubt anyone will even need this warranty for anything but peace of mind!Overall, I feel this is a worthy upgrade for the Vitamix home user. Hope these details are helpful!

Hype justified
Boaz S. September 15, 2024Review source: AmazonMy mother has been asking me for years why we don’t get a Vitamix – she blends everything. We always thought it was a bit silly to blend everything in sight and been only occasionally dabbling with lesser brands and sporadic blends.
Getting this thing now (shoutout to mom) I actually kinda get it. The one striking thing is the quality of this power train – at that moment you instantly believe the claim on the box “Vitamix blenders last up to 10x longer than the average blender”.The additional features are a bit of fluff but are the car equivalent of leather seats and 360 camera: Self cleaning, tamper, base, hot blending etc – they all work and will be there waiting for us for when we elevate our blending game a bit.
We inaugurated it with margarita’s that got compliments from our guests. Cocktails are an easy thing to get good at and this is a force multiplier – an expensive one at that but if you are reading this it may be time to give it a go.
For comparison with past Vitamix offers I can only attest that it is as sturdy and strong as all my mom’s old ones if not more. Can less compare to the modern lineup.
So to summarize: all in all, this blender delivers on that hype. My initial skepticism about sticking everything in the blender has shifted. It truly performs as advertised, and the build quality alone sets it apart from competition. Paying those $ to supercharge your blending and get a reliable kitchen tool that’ll stick with you for years possibly makes sense. Blend the good blend my comrades.

Another top notch product from Vitamix
Amazon Customer September 12, 2024Review source: AmazonI remember the first time I saw the price of a Vitamix many years ago. I thought people had to be crazy to ever spend that much on a blender. That is until I borrowed the one my in-laws have. They have had theirs for decades!! I have never used a blender like this before. They are powerful and work like nothing else. I bought my first one more than a decade ago and it’s still like new. I was so excited to see Vitamix has this new model and had to have it. This blender is just as high quality as their previous versions. This model is very thoughtful with the addition of the optional piece to hold the plunger piece (verses previous versions that just have this loose). The digital display is very sleek and a nice improvement. I love that you have preset options already built in, but also the option to just use the power settings you prefer. This is just another high-quality product from Vitamix. It is insanely expensive, but absolutely worth saving up for since it’ll last MANY more years than other blenders and functions far better than others, also.
