Pros & Cons
Pros
- Superior Rice Quality: The pressure induction heating technology produces perfectly fluffy, sweet, and consistent rice that users claim surpasses restaurant quality and standard fuzzy logic models.
- Exceptional Keep Warm Function: The machine is highly praised for its ability to keep rice fresh, moist, and delicious for several days without it drying out, yellowing, or developing odors.
- Versatile Grain Settings: Beyond standard white rice, it delivers excellent results for GABA brown rice, steel-cut oatmeal, and congee, with dedicated settings that handle difficult grains with ease.
Cons
- Prohibitive Price: The extremely high cost is the most common complaint, with many users finding it difficult to justify the expense despite the high-quality results.
- Reliability and Part Failures: Several reviewers reported hardware malfunctions shortly after the one-year warranty expired, specifically citing cracked inner lids, steam leaks, and persistent E17 error codes.
- High Maintenance Cleaning: The unit requires significant effort to maintain, as multiple parts must be disassembled, hand-washed, and dried after every use to prevent starch buildup and odors.

Buy Extended Warranty, Ours Broke After 18 Months
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Little Ps Momma March 31, 2025Review source: AmazonWe had a regular zojirushi rice maker that lasted 10 yrs so when that broke we decided to splurge and get the pressure cooker rice maker instead. It was great while it lasted. The rice was really good and although we never actually made 10 cups of rice, it came in handy when we had a lot of guests over. The pros are the rice was delicious, best we ever made. But the cons are cook time was 59 mins for regular white rice, lots of small parts to clean every time, and it broke after 18 months of daily use. Yes, we used the rice maker every day practically because my elderly asian mom who lives with us like to eat rice with everything and so we kept it on warm mode practically every day. Then suddenly i noticed the steam while cooking was not coming out of the vent anymore but from the sides which should have been a huge red flag. Then it started making this high pitch hissing noise while on high pressure, another huge red flag something was wrong. But what really made us stop using it was when we cooked rice and then the very next day the rice was rotten sour. Thought it was the rice so cooked it again and same thing happened. Read over the reviews here and saw several people had all the same issues. Turns out the inner lid cracked! That explains the leaking steam out of the side lid and hissing noise. Prob also affects the maintaining heat temp so that the rice prob isnt warmed hot enough to kill bacteria but instead inhibits growth! Now I’m waiting for the inner lid to come back in stock on manufacturer’s website to order it. I hope that will fix the problem otherwise we’re out of a very expensive rice cooker. All in all I would buy this rice cooker again, but maybe the 5 cup version and I would def get the extended warranty from Amazon.
My advice: BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

Awesome Rice Cooker.

Our first one was made in japan and to this day it still works perfectly. It is a 10 cup. We bought a 5 cup around 8 years ago, while it still works but the non stick lining is starting to scratch up. I think because it is not the japanese made model. We got this and the rice it makes is so good. I didn’t expect that induction and pressure would make rice so much better!

Not worth the price difference to cheaper rice cookers. Not DIY Repairable.
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Pogi March 9, 2025Review source: AmazonI am a white guy that eats rice multiple times a week and lived a couple years in Asia. This rice cooker works well, but I for me it is not worth the price premium. I previously had an Aroma rice cooker that I bought at Costco for $70 about 10+ years ago. The rice is very similar, maybe not quite as good, but it isn’t any faster and it is certainly not 6 times better than my Aroma. I thought with the pressure cooker and the induction it would be faster, but it is not. On quick which I use the most often it takes me about 34 minutes to cook a batch of 3 “cups” (measuring cup is provided) of rice which is very reasonable and maybe a little faster than my Aroma. But if I choose any of the special settings like Jasmin, Umami, Sushi, White It takes at least 90 minutes. So 3 times as long. I don’t think the average person would notice the difference. If you gave me a blind taste test between the quick and umami settings, I think I might be able to notice a small difference, but for me I usually don’t plan ahead enough to merit the 90 minute difference. I have also tried the Porridge setting for Steel Cut Oats and it works fine. I have had less success with “Mix Rice” (rice cooked with other ingredients or seasoning). In my Aroma I just take the aluminum container out and sauté onions and garlic on the stove and then fry up the rice before adding it back to the pot. This one I am too worried about since a replacement bowl costs 2x as much as a whole Aroma rice cooker. Also, the first one of these I received was broken and displayed an E02 error. Ultimately, I was able to diagnose it online and would have fixed it on my own but Zojirushi does not allow you to purchase parts. I actually called Zojirushi and 4 separate repair centers and was told it was agains their agreement with Zojirushi. The part was a simple solenoid that would maybe cost $5, but since it is made by them you can’t get it. So keep in mind that there is a lot of “tech” in this rice cooker and if anything fails you are on your own with an expensive paperweight.

Too much maintenance
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.John Carpenter February 25, 2025Review source: AmazonThis thing is so difficult to clean. I had the same unit but without the pressure cooker capability, and it was fantastic. I thought this one would be better but it’s not worth having to take it apart after every use just to keep it clean.

Worth it
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.mike February 23, 2025Review source: AmazonThis thing is made by someone who understands what you need in the kitchen. Easy to use, easy to clean. Makes perfect rice every time with no prep. I used to be confused that a rice cooker could costs this much, but I now understand. We eat rice almost daily now. I only wish it had a basmati setting – dont get me wrong, it cooks great basmati, but it took some experimentation. For basmati we use the white rice setting on harder with the water at 1.5 per cup on the white rice scale.

Buyer BEWARE
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.jojo January 29, 2025Review source: AmazonGreat machine for the few times it worked. Started getting an E17 error which did not allow the machine to start, searched all the documentation, online resources, and customer support. E17 error has something to do with the lid not being closed, I can assure you it’s closed. I have to send the machine back for them to look at it, it has not been used that much, maybe once a month? This machine is too electronic with sensors everywhere…which are helpful but a lot of areas for “unfixable” issues. Too much money for this type of experience, so disappointed as I thought I was buying the best.

Great rice cooker, made in japan
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Mike January 27, 2025Review source: AmazonWhat can a very expensive rice maker do that less expensive ones can’t? I would argue this has less features out of the box than less expensive rice makers.
But what you buy this for is the quality and precise cooking of your rice. You buy this because “good enough” isn’t!
This rice maker makes rice, grains, oats and that is it! (Unless you buy a steam tray separately and then experiment so that you can still make your steam buns…)
But the rice and oats come out marvelously, the texture is perfect and I didn’t realize you could get different flavors out of rice with a pressure boil method or however this works. Truly a revolution in my mouth. The first use smelled like burning plastic, and I did remove all of the plastic prior. So maybe run it first time with just water.
It looks pretty nice, but is definitely out of place on my counter; everything else is black or stainless. With that said, I find it to be an attractive device.
It is easy to use, and it makes more than I know what to do with it. It has congee presets, steel cut oats, different styles of rice. Only thing missing is a steam tray, but I ordered a steel one off of eBay, and that filled it’s role nicely.
For the price, it is hard to recommend; but if you are well off this is the single best grain making appliance that I have encountered. I think you could find a better value lower down the line if you are ok buying made in China though.
