Known for its cutting-edge features and high-performance capabilities, this monitor has become a popular choice for those seeking an immersive and seamless gaming experience. With its vibrant OLED display, impressive 360Hz refresh rate, and robust build quality, users have highlighted both the strengths and minor drawbacks of this advanced gaming monitor. This comprehensive summary of customer reviews from Amazon and Best Buy provides an in-depth look at what users love and what they think could be improved, helping potential buyers make an informed decision about whether this monitor is the right fit for their needs.

PROS

  1. Display Quality: Users are highly impressed with the OLED panel, noting its vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. The monitor’s HDR capabilities also receive high praise for enhancing visual experience. “The OLED panel is stunning with its vibrant colors and deep blacks,” a user mentioned.
  2. High Refresh Rate: The 360Hz refresh rate is highlighted as a significant advantage, providing smooth and responsive gameplay, especially for fast-paced games like Rocket League. “The 360Hz refresh rate makes a noticeable difference in fast-paced games,” one user noted.
  3. Build Quality: The monitor is described as visually appealing with a solid build. The aluminum stand is noted for its sturdiness, although some users wished for a matte black option instead of the silver finish. “The build quality is impressive, and the aluminum stand feels very sturdy,” according to a review.
  4. Additional Features: The monitor includes useful features like multiple input ports, USB ports, and a headphone jack. The Infinity Core lighting adds an aesthetic appeal, and the CoreSync feature, despite some lag, is appreciated by tech enthusiasts. “I love the extra USB ports and the Infinity Core lighting looks great,” a user commented.
  5. No Glare: The matte coating effectively handles reflections and glare, making it suitable for brightly lit environments. “The matte finish is excellent at reducing glare, even in a bright room,” one reviewer said.

CONS

  1. Color and Design Preferences: Some users are not fans of the silver finish and would have preferred a black or white option. The connectors at the back are also a minor inconvenience for a few users. “I wish it came in a matte black finish instead of silver,” one user expressed.
  2. Minor Quality Control Issues: A few users reported issues like glue residue in crevices, misaligned bezels, and minor screen bleeding. However, these issues do not seem to affect the majority of users. “There was some glue residue and a slight misalignment of the bezel,” a reviewer mentioned.
  3. Sleep Mode Issues: Several users reported problems with the monitor reconnecting to the computer after going into sleep mode, which can be frustrating in multi-monitor setups. “The monitor sometimes has trouble reconnecting after sleep mode,” a user noted.
  4. Heavy Weight: The monitor’s weight makes it difficult to move and adjust, although this also contributes to its stability. “It’s quite heavy, which makes it hard to move, but it feels very stable,” according to a review.

Who Should Buy?

The Samsung 27″ Odyssey OLED G6 is ideal for gamers and tech enthusiasts who prioritize high refresh rates, superior display quality, and advanced features. It is also suitable for users who appreciate a sleek, modern design and robust build quality. However, it may not be the best choice for those who frequently move their monitor or require a lighter, more portable option. Additionally, users with multi-monitor setups should be aware of the potential sleep mode issues.

Recommendation

Overall, the Samsung 27″ Odyssey OLED G6 is a top-tier gaming monitor that offers exceptional performance and visual quality. While it comes with a higher price tag, its features and build quality justify the investment. Despite some minor issues, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from users makes it a highly recommended option for anyone looking to upgrade their gaming or work setup with a high-refresh-rate OLED monitor. “Despite some minor issues, I would highly recommend this monitor for its performance and build quality,” one user concluded.

One Amazing Monitor!

I was looking for a replacement monitor for my aging 8+ year old Acer Predator 2k TN Panel Monitor. Over many years I’ve used my old Acer Predator monitor with 3 different gaming builds and never thought I was really missing anything with OLED or more modern gaming monitors. I decided to try something new, modern and wanted to see if I could up my quality of gaming will keeping my 2k resolution with my current gaming rig.

I want to start off by how immediate and shocked I was when first turning on my monitor and just looking at my desktop. The color difference between my old TN panel monitor and this OLED monitor is literally night and day! I have 2 other 10+ year old TN panel monitors, left and right of this screen and immediately can’t stand looking at my other 1080p 60hz monitors because of the massive color difference and how bland my other monitors look. I never knew what I was missing until today!

From a specs perspective, this monitor outshines everything I’ve ever had. I had to upgrade my display cable to be able support 360hz, as my older display cable didn’t work. Luckily there was one in the box, though some may need to get a longer cable that support 360hz if your PC is father then 4-5ft away from your display output.

Additionally, the HDR capabilities on this monitor are breathtaking! I haven’t really had much HDR experience with other monitors, but I can say initial impressions blow me away when playing HDR enabled content.

This monitor has 2 additional inputs outside of the display port so hooking up a console, or media to this monitor would be a breeze and switching inputs is easy. The Monitor also has 2 3.0 USB ports in the back as well if looking to hook up a USB hub near the monitor, though not sure if both work identically, as one is marked as service. There are no speakers on this monitor, which is fine by me, as I use headphones or dedicated speakers. I should mention though there is a headphone jack on the back with its independent output in the settings. It is only a 2 channel output from initial testing so would not be expect 7.1 surround.

I also love that the base is a solid flat base vs traditional V shaped bases on the older models of Odyssey monitors. The base is solid and VERY stable, though I do wish the base was matte black for my gaming setup. There is practically no glare on this monitor what so ever. With an overheard bright light right on top of my head, I see no glare or light bounce off this monitor.

If I had to choose between my older 8 year old 2k SDR Monitor and this OLED HDR 2k monitor, I would choose this OLED monitor every time! The colors pop, the blacks are deep, and the pixel density is beyond what I’ve ever owned for my gaming setup.

For the price, you are getting a great monitor! Though be prepared for a hefty investment as this is a brand name high quality monitor. One I will be using for many years to come.

I will update this review if I ever encounter long term burn in, but with this monitors various technologies that prevent this very issue, I doubt this will be an issue.

If you have the capital to get a quality 360hz OLED gaming monitor, aren’t looking for the overly demanding 4k gaming experience, want a reasonable 2k gaming experience, and looking for colors that will rock your world. I recommend this a thousand times over!

i have all oled tv’s in my house, was waiting for a spec’ed out oled pc monitor and bam here it is. i have the hardware to get the most out of it. pandora frontier’s is breathtaking with graphics cranked up. my rig is at a desk in the kitchen with lots of windows…no glare what so ever. smokes my previous ips out of the water. no bleeding at all. aluminum stand is very sturdy and although silverish the bottom stand is flat so i can set my controller in front on top, no wasted space like my previous v shaped stand. if you have the rig to handle this why on pandera’s earth would you need built in speakers? buy some decent speakers cheapskate. i do wish it was g sync certified thou. and the one’s screaming “burn in” in 15 years of owning OLED’S i never had issue’s with burn in. maybe don’t crank the brightness all the way up. this monitor has a setting built in to alleviate it. this monitor is plenty bright even in my multi-window kitchen.

Almost perfect for my needs

First off, I have a high regard for Samsung Monitors and TVs and I had purchased multiple products from them in the past. I had an older Dell 30″ monitor that I wanted to upgrade to a newer spec model, and this one was meant to replace it for my son’s older rig.

The picture quality is top notch, and you can really tell the difference when gaming with the higher refresh rate (up to 120Hz). The main monitor controls are actually behind the screen, on the back of the monitor, as to keep the bezel very thin. I don’t mind this, and the OSD controls are fairly intuitive once you get the hang of it.

I also happen to use this for some IT testing that I do for work from time to time, and I also use one of the available HDMI ports to plug in a Chromecast — This is so that I can turn the monitor into a digital picture frame while not in use. So, because of this…multiple ports are key to me. I think that this monitor would have been perfect if it had at least 1 or two more available DisplayPort ports, so that I can plug in a couple of other devices that I have for my IT work.

Waking the monitor from sleep is an awful experience

I have two of these. My first impression of them was great… Until I started to use them daily and realized that they don’t easily re-connect to my computer after sleeping. I have to either power the monitors off and on or disconnect / reconnect them to my computer in order to get them to turn on again… And then all of my windows are all on one screen. There are some threads on reddit about it. Beware!

Samsung's Best Monitor to Date

Samsung has released their new 27″ Odyssey G6 OLED QHD Freesync gaming monitor, and it doesn’t disappoint. The box includes the monitor, base, stand (connects base to monitor), HDMI cable, DP cable, USB/PC cable, power cable with transformer (split), and quick user guide/paperwork. The monitor comes with a manufacturer’s 3-year warranty.

PROS:
———–
* The base/stand/monitor connect easily with no tools. Also easy to break down if needed.
* The monitor is VESA and has HAS/TILT/SWIVEL/PIVOT ability. Extremely versatile.
* Plenty of connections and ports with easy access on the rear – USB 3.0 PC, (2) USB3.0, (2) HDMI 2.1, headphones jack, DP1.4, and DC in. What I love here are the ports facing outwards instead of downwards.
* 360Hz is likely overkill for most games; however when playing games, it’s extremely smooth. PS5’s only have the ability to output to 120Hz, so you’re likely going to see the biggest gains and serious smoothness on PC games. Additionally, 0.03ms response time is as good as it gets anywhere.
* The OLED glare-free screen is huge. The screen is quite visible from wider angles as well.
* The OLED Safeguard+ technology is a huge addition to this monitor. This is a feature that helps control the temperature of the screen itself to help prevent burn-in.
* The monitor itself if made of thin, sleek, and very strong metal. The built-quality is very good and sturdy.
* The user menu is easy to use with the reverse joystick on the rear of the unit. There is enough room underneath the screen itself to place your hand easily to make changes. Upon turning on the first time, it offers the user a QR code to register the monitor right off the bat. After scanning the QR code, the fields are auto-populated in your browser with the model and serial number… this was a super easy process and a great feature I haven’t seen on any other monitor.
* The circle LED light on the rear can be changed in a handful of ways. Nice touch.
* HDR blacks are very black – as good as I have seen in any monitor. These blacks can obviously be adjusted further if needed.

CONS:
———–
* Cable management is basic at best. There’s a rubber ring on the rear that does the job but it’s not very fancy. I would have liked to see a better design for cable management but it is acceptable.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
———–
* If the monitor needs to travel, it can be placed in the Styrofoam easily in the original box after the base/stand/monitor is broken down easily.

CONCLUSION:
=====================
The 2 main features of this monitor are the 360Hz refresh rate and the abundant ways the monitor self-regulates the screen temperature and ability to combat screen burn-in and making the monitor last for years. This is likely the best picture I have ever seen on any monitor. It’s vivid, bright, colorful, and has every ergonomic ability available. The price point is high, but in this case, you’re getting what you pay for. I highly recommend this monitor from Samsung. The G6 is extremely top-notch. The only thing that would make this monitor better is if it was a 21:9 aspect ratio, but that’s nitpicking. Great job, Samsung!

Really gorgeous monitor. The graphics are really good. Is it worth the price point though? I think if you are a pro gamer then definitely if not I don’t think it’s that much of a step up from cheaper monitors. I love it though, it’s beautiful and smooth the back lighting is a nice touch. Over all a really good monitor. Just for the price I was expecting a bigger difference.

This monitor is phenomenal. Honestly thinks its the best in the Market Honestly at this moment. Its amazing on my PC and Ps5 alike. Its like the dream monitor. The Colors are beyond Vibrant , super fast speed and Inky blacks. The metal body feels premium like my iphone 15 pro mad which is titanium but this comes very close. 10/10 for me. Plus its quiet because it uses water cooling chamber tech other than thr noisey fans for cooling.

Great for competitive gaming.. not perfect.

Let me preface by saying that I’ve had at least 6-7 different PC monitors since 2013. Why? Because I’ve always wanted the best competitive advantage and the past 10-11 years have been a onslaught of incremental improvements as far as display technology goes. 144hz (2013) to 240hz (2017) to 360hz (2020) and now response times, color reproduction, and black levels are finally starting to peak.

It’s not uncommon to hear the term “end game”, especially on the OLED side, since there is no need to tweak response overdrive inside the monitor OSD itself. Perfect motion based on the refresh rate itself.

GENERAL THOUGHTS:

As I stated above, this monitor isn’t going to disappoint in regards to absolute speed. I’m pretty certain this is the fastest monitor I’ve had my hands on in regardless to raw “input lag” due to the combination of 0.3ms response rate and a 360hz refresh rate. My previous first gen 360hz IPS monitor feels a bit more “laggy” side by side with Adaptive sync/G-Sync display technology disabled and set to its optimal overdrive setting.

I’m certain this is the current peak in this metric.. and possibly even faster than the newer 540hz TN panels since those require voltage overdrive and have around a 1-2ms delay from response alone.

For those competitive players that I’m talking to, this is definitely a solid option in the 1440p space. I would still consider a newer 540hz TN if you like 1080p Resolution. (As of this review on 06/2024)

MATTE SCREEN:

I hate to be that person, but the Anti-glare coating is actually worse than the newer WOLED 32″ “matte” model that a friend of mine uses. I would say this better than your traditional IPS screen, but the color reproduction is a little worse than I imagined?

– The Glossy QD-OLED that I have just “Pops” a bit more and look better in a mid lit room subjectively speaking.
– I would Say QD OLED (Glossy) > WOLED (LG Panel.. semi-matte) > QD-OLED (Matte) as far as color “pop” goes.. but again.. this is a subjective factor. Take my opinion of this with a grain of salt.

If you’re looking for a matte screen, this may be absolutely amazing since reflections are minimal.

I’m not trying to downplay this as “bad” either.. But I DO think WOLED or QD OLED glossy is better for me.

UNIQUE FEATURES:

This OLED design seems to include a functional vapor chamber in its backplate for cooling. This should promote greater longevity relative to alternative vendors using a basic assembly. I think it’s pretty cool at least. There are teardowns on the internet if you want to see this.

CONS:

The monitor was marketed as a metal design, but its only really the base plate that is. The main assembly is silver plastic down to the arm.

Is the arm as solid as other premium monitors? I’m afraid not.. but its passable and better than many Samsung legacy products of the past. Certain competitors just do better.

Text clarity is also subpar… I used to have a 240hz 1440p IPS monitor and this is certainly a step below that one. For pure visuals, the 4k OLED (QD-OLED & WOLED) stuff is going be better, but the trade off is rendering over 2x the pixels from 1440p.. As you might have guessed, this is due to not using a traditional RGB pixel layout on windows. Samsung’s Pixel layout looks like a triangle.

The packaging is poor relative to most top brands in market.. I’m actually really disappointed that Samsung didn’t put as much effort into the presentation or security of certain components like the monitor Arm. This isn’t going to matter as much once you have the product, but I would pick up this monitor in your local best buy store and not have it shipped.

OVERALL:

I still consider this a top tier monitor, but I wouldn’t say “end game”. I think Samsung offers a solid package here, but its being held back by the aggressive matte coating (my opinion) and sub par text clarity from my perspective… Not to say that it isn’t good… but its more like IPS “fixed” rather than “oh wow OLED!”

Given that I’ve had/have experience with 4K OLED.. I’d rate this one a step below that, granted this is one is ABSOLUTELY FASTER as a trade off.

Competitive players? Yes, buy it.. It’s currently one of the best options if you want to go 1440p. The screen size is also slightly smaller at around 26.5″ where most IPS 1440P Panels are 27″ exact.

If you like Matte? Also buy it. It does a good job and reducing reflections and better than the competitor WOLED in that regard.

People that like looking at Glossy OLED TV’s? Maybe skip this one.

I’m giving it a 4/5 because its still better than legacy IPS/TN/VA stuff on market.. The raw speed of the monitor secures its higher rating. Well optimized.

Competitive Speed and a Stunning Display

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 has so many features to brag about and a few downsides worth mentioning.

Included are display ports for a DisplayPort 1.4 and two for HDMI 2.1, as well as two USB-A ports, an audio jack, and a USB-B port. It includes cables: DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1, and USB-B to USB-A. I chose to connect the monitor to the HDMI 2.1 because of the higher bandwidth and it is absolutely a step up from my previous setup.

The 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time take gaming to a whole other level. The picture is fluid, and I can act and react quickly and accordingly because of it. It also comes equipped with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which is compatible with my NVIDIA GeForce RXT graphics card to provide a powerful combo for a smooth picture. I tested the refresh rate and FPS and indeed got the advertised 360Hz refresh rate and 360FPS.

The colors are stunning – vibrant, saturated, true, and rich. The blacks are amazing! Literally the blackest I have seen on a screen. The colors coupled with the QHD resolution work in tandem to provide a stunning picture quality. Games like Fortnite are extremely vibrant because of this, while Battlefield looks so much more realistic than in my other monitor and my big screen tv. The details that were put into the game look almost lifelike using this display.

The screen is not reflective whatsoever and thus, there is very little glare. The only time I experienced any was when the sun was shining through the window, and it was quite subdued. It just washed down the color in that area slightly instead of glaring.

The monitor itself is extremely thin around the edges with just some bulk concentrated in the middle portion. It makes my setup look incredibly sleek and even mesmerized my visitors; it was the first thing they noticed when they saw it. It comes with CoreLighting+ which provides ambient lighting from the back of the monitor in an array of color options. I actually really enjoy this feature since I have a wall behind it, and it gives of a nice ambience that goes with the rest of my setup while also reducing eyestrain when I play in the dark.

The stand gives a high degree of adjustability to get the height and angle just right. Additionally, it moves easily and stays put exactly where it is placed. It is a big plus for me because I stand once in a while to get some circulation flowing in my legs and I like that I can just lift the monitor and tilt it up when I do this.

Behind the monitor is a control button that moves in four directions to change the settings. With it, the input can be changed, the volume, brightness, etc. In addition to those, it has a settings menu which allows customization of CoreLighting+ among many other things.

There are a few downsides that should be noted. One is that this monitor tends to run hot. Once it is in use for a while, I can feel the heat coming from it. This is okay for now, but it will be an issue when the heat waves roll in. Another is text clarity, words and letters are not as crisp as I am used to. If this is mostly for gaming, it is hardly an issue as I did not notice it much in-game. I noticed it only when browsing the internet and when using a Word document.

All things considered; I believe the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to gaming. It has the speed, fluidity, and power to elevate my gaming and give me a competitive advantage while just looking sleek on my desktop.

Fantastic Monitor With Some Minor Annoyances

For the past week, I’ve been testing the new Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD). Overall, it’s a fantastic monitor with some minor annoyances and a questionable bezel design.

Setup was extremely simple and required no tools. It consisted of just three parts that twisted or snapped into place. The stand is fully adjustable, and the 27-inch screen is the perfect size for productivity. The port selection on the back is excellent. It has 2 HDMI ports, 1 DisplayPort, 1 AUX jack, 2 USB-A ports, and a USB-B port for data transfer.

When it comes to performance, the OLED panel is fantastic. I love the glare-free matte coating, which effectively rejects light reflection from any direction. The black levels and brightness are amazing, and color reproduction is some of the most vivid I’ve seen on a desktop monitor. Furthermore, the 360Hz refresh rate provides a very smooth picture, and the sub-millisecond response times of 0.03ms make this monitor ideal for competitive gaming. This monitor also features backlighting, which is a nice touch. It looks great if the back of the monitor is exposed, but if it’s facing a wall, it’s not bright enough to provide significant ambient lighting.

The on-screen menu is fairly simple to use and offers a decent amount of customization for the monitor. However, on initial startup, I keep getting a “calibration not complete” error, and there is no clear menu option for calibration. Additionally, the nub for navigating the menu may need some break-in time. Up, down, left, and right worked perfectly, but I found it took multiple tries to get it to accept a center press. This was a minor annoyance but something to consider.

The bezels of this monitor are probably my biggest annoyance. While the monitor is powered off, they look minimal. When the monitor is powered on, they appear average. However, I’ve noticed a visible uneven 1/8 – 2/8 inch gap between the bezel and the display area. This is more prevalent on the right side of the screen, making the bezel look uneven. This probably wouldn’t be a big deal for most people, but if you have OCD or plan on using two of these monitors, you will notice it.

That said, if you prioritize speed and picture quality, I think this is a fantastic monitor. However, there are some minor annoyances to consider.
