Pros & Cons
Pros
- Simple and Quick Setup: Many reviewers found the initial installation process to be exceptionally easy, with some reporting they were able to start printing within minutes of unboxing.
- Excellent Print Quality: The printer is frequently praised for producing sharp, clear text and vibrant photos, with several users noting it performs better than previous models from other brands.
- Compact and Space-Efficient: The small footprint of the device is a major highlight for users with limited desk space, making it an ideal choice for home offices and small business environments.
Cons
- High Ink Consumption and Cost: A recurring complaint is that the printer 'eats' ink quickly, and the cost of replacement cartridges is often described as expensive or nearly the price of the printer itself.
- Unreliable Wireless Connectivity: Numerous users reported that the printer frequently goes offline or loses its Wi-Fi connection, requiring constant troubleshooting or a switch to a wired USB connection.
- Lack of Duplex Scanning: Despite having an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), the device does not support automatic double-sided scanning, which was a deal-breaker for several customers.

Love-Hate relationship
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Dave5201 July 7, 2024Review source: Amazon1. When it is working, this printer does very well. The Scan feature is much more sophisticated than my old HP 4-in-1 device. In most ways it is user-friendly. And I repeat, when it is working- or more precisely, when it is connected to my PC.
2. The setup did not go smoothly and took much longer and more effort than previous printers I have owned.
3. Repeatedly this printer goes “off line” and says there is no connection to WiFi. I have a good WiFi-Router and our TV has no problems receiving it or staying connected to it four rooms away.. This printer is sitting next to the WiFi router and can’t seem to stay connected. It takes up WAY too much of my time getting it re-connected so that I can print something.
4. If I had to use one word to describe this printer, I would say, “annoying.”
5. I probably WOULD NOT buy this printer again knowing what I know now. I should have paid more attention to those reviewers who warned me that this printer had problems staying connected to WiFi.
6. I almost NEVER write negative reviews and I waited nearly two months before I wrote this. I am pretty tech-savvy and I am about 98% certain problems with this printer are not my fault.Addendum October 20, 2024: I probably would give this printer just one star now. Recently it insisted on updating the software. I should have refused. It took me over an hour to get it reconnected to my desktop and printing normally. The printer has slipped from the irritating to the maddening category.
In retrospect (everything is 20/20 in the rearview mirror), I should have tried harder to get a printer with both a Wi-Fi AND a hard-wired connection. Like my old printer.
Also I should have paid more attention to the reviewers who mentioned how expensive the ink is for this printer… my bad.2nd addendum August 20, 2025: I have now downgraded my rating to one star. This printer worked reasonably well for a few days or weeks at a time and it is now back to its old tricks. The worst of which is in inability to stay connected to my desktop PC. I spent 45 minutes trying to get it reconnected last night. I think it is time to throw in the towel and get another printer. This one is not heavy enough to use for a boat anchor and is too bulky to use as a doorstop…
It has now entered the category of worthless piece of dung. -

Don't Buy, Junk
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Janita June 20, 2024Review source: AmazonDon’t Buy, uses way too much ink and poor quality.
Did not set up right away as my wife was/is sick or I would have returned it.
It just eats Ink.
No more Cannon. -
What a waste of money and effort.
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.Robert Zahn June 19, 2024Review source: AmazonThis printer was challenging to set up/connect to our devices, then ran out of ink in no time. I got a large black ink via Amazon just a couple of days ago and it’s already showing 1/2 used. And of course, the color cartridge is out now. I’ve ordered another, but if I could return it, I surely would.
It’s very slow printing, too. -
Easy to set up. print quality is good.
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.DRC June 17, 2024Review source: AmazonEasy to set up to wireless. Print quality is good. I haven’t tried photo settings yet.
Wish it would wake up on PRINT but you have to manually turn it on since I guess in the power saving mode.
My last Canon lasted 15 years so that’s why I bought this brand. -
FAILED right out of the box
Verified purchase Verified purchase: This reviewer bought the product.K. Scott June 15, 2024Review source: AmazonWhile using the display screen to set up the printer, it gave me the dreaded code 6000 when I choose “align print heads”. There are tons of alleged solutions on the internet to fix it but not one of them would clear this error code. I could not get it to reset either – not soft reset, not hard reset, not reset to factory settings. Printer is unusable in this state. I didn’t get even one page printed. Completely unacceptable that a never-before-used printer would be this fragile. I have NEVER had a brand new printer fail right out of the box until I tried a Canon printer. I guess I will have to go back to HP printers even though I hate the way HP tries to force you to subscribe to their ink replacement service.
